29/06 Try the BMXMAD Challenge. Support the Australian BMX Industry

by bmxultra.com
For many years now we have been supporting the Australian BMX industry.

When we say Australian BMX industry we are talking about every part of it from stores, to distributors, to manufacturers and the magazines and websites that promote the industry and our great sport. If there aren’t BMX race bikes and accessories in bike shops it’s going to be very difficult for our sport to grow. We are regularly asked about advertising for overseas mail order companies, some of the offers have been very generous, we have knocked them back because that’s not what bmxultra.com is about.

This website was initially set up in 1996 to help Australian riders find information about BMX racing in Australia. It has evolved to something much bigger than that. We have a truely international audience and support from some of the biggest manufacturers in BMX racing, this allows us to do regular reviews of some of the best products on the market.

When we see other Aussie companies taking the initiative it makes us proud.

Melbourne based BMX specialist, BMXMAD have a challenge. They are challenging you to buy from them first. They are busting their bawls to match, or better, any price you can get overseas. Think about it. The great products that you want, the great prices that you are after and awesome local service that you need. All while you support the Australian BMX industry, and protect the future of BMX racing in Australia.

See their website for all the details. www.bmxmad.com.au.

25/06 Morphine Industries Rocks at Rockford

Morphine Industries press release
If you are one of the few who haven’t been to the Rock, be sure to put it on next years list because you are missing out on one of the best overall facilities in BMX. The track is dialed and they seem to step it up every year. The covered staging area is now extended out past the starting gate so you don’t have to roast in the sun while your waiting to bang bars on one of the smoothest tracks you will ever ride.

Notable memories of the weekend;

  • The legendary drop off is gone.
  • Ken Nork was in attendance…definitely good too see him out and about!
  • The storm Friday night was crazy….70 mph winds, hail, and a ton of lighting.
  • The 50/50 raffle had everyone buying tickets trying to win that 2,800 bucks (that had to have been a record)
  • Races between Conner and Corben = epic
  • Pat Parker learning why George Andrews is called the Mangler!
  • Turn 2 – alot of people got ejected over that berm. My favorite was Derosa getting hit in the 1st turn, then sends the guy over turn 2 as a return favor.
  • 4 Morphine Industries riders, 6 podiums – it went like this;

Tim Dinger returned to his old stomping grounds and rode away with a 5th on Saturday and a 2nd on Sunday!  Way to get on that box son!

Doran Bradshaw pulled off a 2nd, 4th and a 5th in some crazy races where bodies were flying and people got mad. 36-40 expert and cruiser is no joke….those guys may be old but they go to war when the gate drops!

Olijuwon Davis podiumed both days in 19-27X with a 2nd and a 3rd, and took the win on Sunday in 17& over open. He also gave it a go in Elite Men on Saturday to see how he stacked up with the best in the business. After getting the butterflies out in the first moto, he rode well with 3rd and 5th in the following motos but the first moto jitters kept him from advancing any farther in Elite for the day.

Damien Chrepko also got on the podium in 16X with a 3rd on Saturday.  Sunday didn’t work out as well after getting tangled with another rider but I have a feeling he will be back to his winning ways next week at South Park.

In the next 3 weeks, we’ll have riders at South Park and Evansville followed up with most of the team representing at Nashville. C U there!

24/06 Prestigious UCI Continental Championship Taking place at the American Bicycle Association Great Salt Lake Nationals

 ABA press release
Gilbert, Arizona – The American Bicycle Association (ABA) is returning to South Jordan, Utah, and Rad Canyon BMX, July 2-4, 2010, for the 14th consecutive year of the Great Salt Lake Nationals.  This year the bicycle motocross race has even more significance than years past as it carries the International Cycling Union (UCI) category 3 points status.  There is only one race in the United States this year that carries more point value and that is a BMX Supercross race, also ran by the ABA, to be held at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California, this September.

The International Cycling Union (UCI) is cycling’s International Federation recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and administers and promotes the development of the eight disciplines of cycling, including BMX.  Qualifications spots for each Nation in the Olympic Games in the discipline of BMX are determined by the UCI.  The rankings by nation are determined by the position of the three best male and three female riders from each nation in the UCI BMX ranking.  Each event has a point value with the lower numbered category races carrying more weight.  For the current calendar year there are 71 UCI BMX races with only six races having a higher point value and only three with equal value to the July 3rd race.

Olympic BMX racers from the 2008 Beijing Games from around the globe will be in attendance at the event.  13 of the 32 male BMX racers who competed in the inaugural BMX event in Beijing are also in contention for the coveted ABA #1 Pro Title.  Olympic Gold Medalist Maris Stombergs (LAT), Cristian Becirine (ARG) Arturs Matisons (LAT), Robert de Wilde (NED), Raymon van der Biezen (NED), Ramiro Marino (ARG), Sifiso Nhlapo (RSA), Jared Graves (AUS), Marc Willers (NZL), Liam Phillips (GBR), Kyle Bennett (USA), Olympic Bronze Medalist Donny Robinson (USA), and Olympic Silver Medalist Mike Day (USA), are all Olympians who have raced previous ABA events.  Sarah Walker (NZL), Sammy Cools (CAN), and Shanaze Reade (GBR), are 3 of the 16 female Olympians who have been in attendance at previous ABA events in 2010.

In addition to the top pros in the World, the event will draw some of the fastest and up and coming amateurs from around the United States and Canada.  These riders range in age from 4 to 76 and will be racing to amass points for titles in their age classes and the highly coveted ABA #1 amateur title.    It is anticipated that the weekend will see over 1,000 racers each day, attracting thousands of fans and spectators to the Rad Canyon BMX facility.

Action for the weekend gets started on Friday with registration and practice taking place from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.  Racing on Friday will begin at 6:00 p.m.  Saturday gets started with registration and practice beginning at 7:30 a.m. and racing beginning at 11:30 a.m.  Sunday, the gates open at 7:00 a.m. and racing begins at 8:00 a.m.  A day parking pass is $10 and a weekend parking pass is $20, there is no admission charge.  The pro practice will take place from 5:00 to 5:40 p.m. on Friday and 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

RAD Canyon BMX is a Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation facility, and American Bicycle Association sanctioned BMX race track. The track is located in South Jordan, UT @ approximately 5200 West 9800 South (4 blocks south of Old Bingham Hwy on 5200 West). This family friendly facility is equipped with bleachers, rest rooms and a snack bar.  The normal outdoor schedule runs from May thru September.  There is open practice on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.  Race nights are Thursday, with registration from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. and racing beginning around 7:15 p.m. For more information on Rad Canyon BMX, visit www.radcanyonbmx.com.

24/06 HRVfitness Rocks South Australia vs Victoria

HRVfitness press release
Team HRVfitness had a fantastic weekend as the team headed to Mount Gambier for SA vs Vic Battle Royal. Its always a cold and windy weekend in South Australia, but it was good to see some awesome racing form all classes which heated things up.

The boys were in fantastic form; Jaden Rice dominated all weekend, winning both 11 boys on Saturday and then 10 boys on the Sunday. Did we mention Jaden is still only 9 years old? Brandon Te Hiko was in devastating form winning both cruiser and 20inch on Saturday and then just opting for the 20inch on Sunday and still managed to come home with the win. Olivier Hoarau was looking great all weekend making mains both days in AA. But it was Sunday’s final when he turned on the power, popping out to an early lead but lost it in the first turn. He managed to pull it back through the pro section, but didn’t have the legs down the last straight and had to settle for second place.

Jaden and Brandon are now focusing on their world title campaigns, which will be held in South Africa in July. After both of them taking wins at the recent Australian titles in Shepparton Australia, they boys will be favorites to continue their winning ways at the worlds.

Good luck boys!!

HRVfitness would like to thank all their supporters and sponsors.

23/06 ONE Bicycles Team Australia Update – Izzy goes to Gambier

One Bicycles Australia press release
Mount Gambier South Australia v Victoria & Australian Country Cup Championships By Izzy Penglase

Friday- we went and saw Josie in hospital after that packed and off to SA .

We arrived at the track in time for practice and the track looked awesome well done Blue lake BMX club, the start hill was a sight I couldn’t believe.

It was cold and damp and started to rain Dad and I looked at each other and decided a warm room hot dinner was better than cold and wet race clothes and cleaning bikes so of to our room it was.

Saturday- Country Cup Day

After a few laps in practice on 20 and Cruiser I was happy with the track and gate and ready to race.

The racing was bad as there was only a few mottos between my 20 inch and cruiser ( not a good motto draw) I had a 3rd and final call as I was getting my cruiser in one motto so dropped one race. The racing was good and after each race was getting quicker. I finished the day 2nd in 20 and a 3rd in Cruiser.

Sunday- Sa v Vic
Got up early and headed to the track. I was happy with practice as I finally pedalled all the way down the start hill and didn’t touch the brakes for the first double.

I was getting closer to the leader 3A in every race but couldn’t get there in the end.

In the cruiser on Sunday I made all Motto’s as the Draw was much better and gave us time to change bikes, and I finished 2nd overall.

22/06 Morphine Industries Hits ABA East Coast National

Morphine Industries press release
Charlotte NC is known as the NASCAR capitol of the world.  While there weren’t any paved turns or drunken fans, this weekend was all about some BMX racing where rubbin’ is racing…

The track was dumped on with rain on Thursday night, which cancelled the race that was going to be held, but come Friday afternoon it was dry as a bone.  Hats off to the crew at Hornets Nest BMX for making the track smooth and keeping the turns swept all weekend.

The only Morphine Soldier to make it to this race was Vet Pro Tim Dinger.  This is Dinger’s home track and from what he tells us holds “Tuesday Night World Championships” every week with fellow locals.  It gets pretty serious and if you’re not careful, feelings will get hurt…

The weekend had brought some of the hottest weather that we have seen in NC and it was one of those weekends where you had to drink gallons of water to stay on top of your game.  Being that this was a Pro Open race Dinger had to race the young bucks but that didn’t worry him at all on his home track.  With outside lane choice and short straight-aways that didn’t provide many passing opportunities Dinger had some good laps and ended up 3rd on Saturday and 4th on Sunday getting passed at the line down the last straight.

What was the most fun though was the 2hr trail session that went down at Dinger’s trails afterwards.  With about 25 riders showing up after the race it was good time for all. Diner has built these trails all by himself and even though they were not huge, they were fun for all.

Next few stops on the Morphine Industries summer tour are Rockford and Nashville.

Morphine Industries would like to thank its Factory Team Sponsors; HARO BIKES (www.harobikes.com), Fly Racing (www.flyracingbmx.com), Alienation (www.alienationbmx.com), Sinz Racing (www.sinz-racing.com), Rennen (www.rennendesigngroup.com), Black Crown (blackcrownbmx.com), Tioga (www.tiogausa.com/bmx)

18/06 Auckland to host BMX World Championships

The event will be staged at Auckland’s Vector Arena in mid-July 2013, where a purpose-built track will be constructed using between 5000-6000 cubic metres of dirt.

The championship is expected to attract 4500 competitors, officials and supporters to the country for one of the world’s fastest growing sports that made its Olympic debut in Beijing.

Current BMX double World Champion Sarah Walker said she was thrilled with the news.

“To have the world championships in my own country will be amazing because although BMX has slowly made its way into the kiwi public eye, it will bring so much more attention to the sport,” Walker said from California today where she is preparing to defend her world championship.

“Hopefully it will create more excitement about our sport. Being able to show off the sport that I love and compete at the highest level in front of my friends and family that haven’t had the chance to watch an international BMX event will be such a buzz.”

Auckland Mayor John Banks says the next couple of years will be exciting and certainly busy for Auckland as the city welcomes many major sporting events to its shores.

“Hosting the 2013 UCI BMX World Championships will be another great opportunity to demonstrate Auckland’s ability to deliver major events,” says Mr Banks.

“Winning the rights to host this fantastic international event was the result of a successful partnership between Auckland City Council, BikeNZ, BMX New Zealand and central government.”

The event will generate a number of economic, social and international exposure benefits for the Auckland region and New Zealand.  It is expected to generate an estimated $13 million of new income into Auckland during the city’s off peak tourism season.

The event will provide an enormous boost for the sport in this country, according to BikeNZ.

“This is another incredible step in the growth of cycling in New Zealand.  With the Junior World Track Championships here in 2012, this event for BMX will continue to escalate the growth of our sport and greatly benefit the future champions we will see leading on the world stage through to the Rio Olympics in 2016,” said BikeNZ High Performance Director, Mark Elliott.

“We have a strong group of 15 to 17 year old BMX riders who are pushing their way into our High Performance programme. The timing of this world championship will see a number of these athletes pushing to showcase their potential on home soil.”

BMX New Zealand president, Bruce Northwood said it is great news for his sport and now his organisation will go about the huge job of organising the event.

“We have some great people in this country in this sport and now we can focus on not only show-piecing this sport at its best to New Zealand but also raise the bar on presenting the BMX World Championship to the world,” Northwood said.

“Certainly to stage this indoors right in downtown Auckland in a superb facility like the Vector Arena presents a splendid opportunity.”

Mr Northwood said that the organisation will now focus on ensuring the funding required to ensure its success, and hopes to make announcements in the near future.

17/06 More new stuff from THE

by bmxultra.com
Things are a little quiet on the news front so we went looking to see what’s new. While checking through some sites we found what looks like a completely redesigned knee/shin guard from THE. Actually there were two variations. The standard Storm Knee Shin guard looks like it’s been updated, not only to a new colour (of all back), but there appears to be some additional changes with the materials used. It’s the two piece version that looks a whole lot different. It doesn’t have the built in sock that the one piece has and it has a totally different strap system, and then there’s the velcro that joins the two halfs together, they should make for a more comfortable fit and look like they were designed to wear under race pants. Although my old THE Storm guards were just fine under my race pants.

For more information check out www.the-industries.com. THE is distributed in Australia by Elite Cycle Imports.

16/06 New Zealand wins Trans Tasman Trophy

by bikemedia
Australian BMX riders relinquished their grip on the Trans Tasman Test Trophy in Casino over the weekend.. New Zealand took out the win with an impressive 125 points to Australia’s 70 points reclaiming the trophy for the first time in three years.

With competition held in both countries the event is now in its 22nd year and is commonly referred to as the Mighty 11’s. It lays claim to being a breeding ground for future talent such as Beijing Olympians, Sarah Walker (NZ) and Luke Madill (AUS).

According to Australia’s event manager, Sonia Buckley, the competition was fierce from start to finish.

“I’m sure the New Zealand riders were told they would not be allowed back in the country without the trophy! They made a strong start and didn’t let up,” Buckley said. “The parents from New Zealand were so proud they did the Haka during presentations. It was fantastic.”

The girls scholarship team win also went to New Zealand with the Australian girls, all from New South Wales, putting up a strong challenge. New Zealand’s, Rebecca Petch took the overall Mighty 11 Challenge Trophy for leading rider as well as the best female.

The Australian top riders selected to compete in New Zealand in October will be:

Jacob Griffiths – Pine Rivers QLD
Mitchell Hoad – Cairns QLD
Cooper Pozniak – Lake Macquarie NSW
Justin Beattie – Blue Mountains NSW
Jiye Ellis – Southlake NSW

The girls scholarship was won by:
Saya Sakakibara – Southlake NSW
Chelsea Boylan – Penrith NSW
Holly Cooper – Clarence Valley NSW

These Australian riders who will head to Rotorua, New Zealand for the return match on the 23-24 October as part of the North Island Titles.

The Mighty 11’s international BMX competition is now in its 22nd year and has origins  in Ipswich, Qld and Tamworth, NSW and is now hosted in Australia by BMX NSW. The annual event is a ‘cultural exchange’ which occurs in Australia on the Queen’s Birthday weekend in June and then is held in New Zealand on the Labour Day holiday in October. Riders are invited to compete and must be 11years of age. The competition is awarded on points and riders need to race as a team.

15/06 bmxultra.com changes

bmxultra.com press release
Since it’s inception in 1996 bmxultra.com has always been considered amongst the top BMX websites in the world. It’s far from just another BMX website, there are many features of the site that make it stand out from the crowd and keep it very different to the others. Created by, Shane Jenkins, who has been a professional web developer/designer for large international companies for over 10 years, the site always has a professional edge and a very different look and feel to other sites. Shane uses it as a test bed in most cases, and likes to change it every couple of years to keep it fresh, innovative and to improve usability. Well it’s that time again.

The forum has been changed already, there may be some minor tweaks, if you have a wide screen monitor you will notice more of the design changes, but if you don’t you will still see all the information and updates as per usual. You may have noticed the front page has changed too, that will continue to evolve as we fine tune things.

There will be other modifications moving forward, but since bmxultra.com is such a massive resource, with nearly 15 years of archives, it will take some time.

If you find any errors or have problems with it please email webmaster@bmxultra.com.

15/06 Refresh "Olympic dreams for Kids" at Richfield Park BMX in Michigan

ABA press release
Gilbert, Arizona – One of the newest ABA BMX tracks is taking part in the Pepsi Refresh Project to try and raise $25,000.  The top 10 ideas selected by voters will receive funding from Pepsi.  The project is current sitting at 189 and with the help of the entire BMX Community we can help improve their chances for funding.  Voting for this round of grants ends June 30th, 2010.  To vote, simply follow this link http://refresheverything.com/richfieldparkbmx, register, and vote.  Only the top 10 will get enough votes to receive a grant worth $25,000.

The "Olympic Dreams for Kids" project for Richfield Park BMX will help fund the purchase of BMX bikes, protective gear, an annual license, and cover the cost of competing for a year at the Richfield Park BMX facility.  This project is for kids without bikes and whose parent’s are unable to afford the costs to participate.  The grant will assist Richfield BMX in providing for a healthy lifestyle for children in the community while letting them follow their dreams.  The Genesee County Area has been devastated by unemployment leaving kids with little to enjoy.  This grant from Pepsi will bring something positive back to the community by inspiring kids to pursue their dreams.  Funds from the Grant will also be used to build a pavilion for the kids to be protected from the elements on hot humid days and during inclement weather.

The American Bicycle Association (ABA) was formed in 1977 and is headquartered in Chandler, Arizona. “The Sanctioning Body of BMX”©, the ABA organizes BMX racing for boys, girls and adults, nationwide and Canada. 15/06 New Aussie bike shop to specialise in BMX Race

OZ BMX CENTRAL press release
A new bike shop “OZ BMX CENTRAL” has opened in Canberra that specialises in just BMX. Unlike most shops that specialise in just BMX the shop is BMX raced based with dirt, park and street on the side, rather then the other way around. We will also be stocking Old School friendly parts over the coming months.

OZ BMX CENTRAL carries a large range of bikes, accessories and apparel. Some of our brands include GHP, Redman, Bombshell, Avent, Redline, DK, Condemned, Mirraco, SNAFU, Risen BMX, Snap, Tioga, Kenda, Odyssey and Fly race wear. If we don’t have it in stock then we will get it for you, we have some great savings on hand on most brands. The aim of OZ BMX CENTRAL is to keep BMX as affordable as possible by offering you the best prices possible.

Store owner Brett Williams said that there is a market for BMX race in Australia in which only a few current stores capitalise on. “The main problem with most bike shops is that they are focused on MTB and road and have little knowledge of BMX and current trends. We all see new riders turn up to local tracks on a brand new freestyle BMX that the local shop sold them to race BMX on, they seem more interested in selling what’s on the floor then what is right for the sport. We not only supply off the shelf bikes such as Redline and DK, we can also custom build the bike to suit the individual rider using GHP, Redman, Avent, DK or Redline frames as the base. There is also a market for the fast growing old school scene in Australia” said Brett.

“We offer the full range of BMX bikes and parts covering entry level right through to the high end products that some of our top riders use. Whatever your budget we can work a package deal for you”.

OZ BMX CENTRAL has some amazing specials on the full range of Redline and DK at the moment and will not be beaten on price on these brands*. We all know that the 2010 range of Redline are selling out fast so don’t miss out and a new shipment of DK bikes are due this week.

The shop also has an online section at ozbmxcentral.com, but we are building a web shop complete with shopping cart that we hope to have online later in the year. OZ BMX CENTRAL also have a Pro Shop up and running and they will be seen at local ACT clubbies (and even some NSW clubbies), NSW opens, NSW titles, ACT titles and of course the Aussies in Cairns next year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Do you match prices?
A. Oz BMX Central will match/beat any advertised price (including delivery costs) from any Australian based store*. All you need to do is email us the link, quote or a screen shot of where you found the cheaper price and we will work out if the product is available to us and work out the best delivered price for you. There are some overseas based stores that we can match, we will determine if we can match these per item. If unsure just email through if you have seen a cheaper price overseas, but remember we also need to know the total shipping costs and what currency as well. We will then do the currency conversion and take into account bank or pay pal commission rates at the time.
Product/s must be available to Oz BMX Central for us to price match.

Q. We are new to the sport; can you do a package deal?
A. Yes we can arrange a package deal to suit your needs and budget from bike, helmet and gloves to a full family fit out.

Q. How much will it cost to get my order sent to me?
A. We will advise you of postage costs once you place an order. You then can agree to go ahead or cancel the order if the postage cost does not suit.

Q. Can I get the same prices on line in store and at the Pro-shop?
A. Yes, the prices you see advertised on line are also the prices in store and at our Pro-shop.

Q. My child has grown out of his/her Junior, do you take trade-ins?
A. Yes we do, we will take any BMX race bike in a good condition as a trade-in on a new race bike that we stock.

While OZ BMX CENTRAL the shop is new to BMX OzBMXcentral is not. OzBMXcentral was founded in January 2008 and currently runs two Australian grass roots teams (OzBMXcentral GHP Team and ozbmxcentral.com supported riders) with a total of 22 riders being managed by OzBMXcentral founder Brett Williams, ozbmxcentral.com are also major supporters of the Retro Race Series.

To find out more about OZ BMX CENTRAL go to our web site at www.ozbmxcentral.com, call us on 0417 550 338 or drop into 39 Kembla Street, Fyshwick ACT. We are located within the Purple Lloyd’s building; if you get lost just ask the Lloyd’s staff to point you in the right direction.

(*Oz BMX Central will match and if possible beat any advertised price including any quoted delivery costs from any Australian based store.)

10/06 Team bmxultra.com W.A. 2010 Year in Review

 bmxultra.com press release
The 2010 Western Australian racing season wrapped up in Kalgoorlie with Rd 8 of the WA Super Series.  With racing in hiatus until late September it provides an opportunity to update fans of bmxultra.com how the year went for sponsored rider Matt Butterworth.

2010 was seen to be somewhat of a ‘comeback’ year for Matt after he suffered a broken leg requiring surgery just prior to the 2009 State Titles in October. With approximately 2 months of no riding and very little leg strength, the road to regaining full race fitness started with Rd 1 of the revamped WA Super Series in November at Wanneroo. Matt was keen to be on the bike again but struggled with leg strength out of the gate and cornering only placing 9th in the 35-39 Cruiser Class.

With a step up in his rehab program, Matt again raced the 35-39 Cruiser class at Rd 3 in Bunbury, this time faring a little better with 2nd spot on the podium. A change in crank length was one of the keys to success in Bunbury with shorter crank arms meaning less force on the knee at the top of the pedal stroke.

Matt then decided to take the step up into Vet Pro Cruiser in Round 4 at Rockingham and Rounds 7 and 8 at Hills and Kalgoorlie respectively. With the leg now almost back to 100%, Matt’s results reflected the work put in with 2 wins and a 2nd place podium in those rounds.

In between the Super Series rounds the WA State Championships made a return to summer time racing in March 2010 at the Hills BMX Club. Matt was entered in the 35-39 Cruiser class and 30+ Men 20 inch. This was to be a real test of the legs’ strength and endurance as two classes in two days plus semi finals and finals in both equaled 16 races. Matt easily qualified out of the motos into both semi finals. Matt placed 2nd in the cruiser semi and was unlucky to be pipped at the line for 4th place in the 30+ semi. So it was only the 35-39 cruiser final to be contested. Again lady luck wasn’t on Matt’s side with the combination of fatigue and a poor gate resulting in Matt being boxed in on the inside going down the first straight. Matt had to wash a great amount of speed off to prevent him from crashing and was left with a deficit too great to make up to reach the podium. In the end Matt finished 7th ahead of winner Matt Briggs, Wesley Hill and Wayne Green on the podium.

While it was somewhat a year of rebuilding, Matt’s results in the final two rounds of the WA Super Series in Vet Pro Cruiser gives him confidence to continue training and getting stronger going in to the 2010/2011 season. Matt has already committed to a full WA series and will be at the 2011 National Championships in Cairns – this time moving up an age group to the super competitive 40-44 class.

Matt would like to thanks Shane at bmxultra.com for his ongoing support and from it’s supporting sponsors.

07/06 Monaco round of UCI BMX Supercross World Cup cancelled for 2010

UCI press release
Aigle, Switzerland – The UCI regrets to inform that the 5th round of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup, presented by SWATCH, is cancelled. The event was initially planned to take stage in the world famous Monaco harbour for 16 and 17 October 2010. Unlike earlier tentative approval, the authorisation to build the unique BMX Supercross track in Monaco harbour was declined for this year.

The successful Supercross World Cup series however deserve a grand finale in a spectacular venue like Monaco harbour. Therefore the UCI and local organisers are still determined to host a BMX Supercross World Cup in Monaco in 2011, less than one year in advance of the London Olympic Games. At the time of this press release, there are no plans for a replacement venue.

"It’s very unfortunate that we had to cancel the final round in Monaco. We put in quite an effort, together with the local promoter, to make it happen. But unfortunately the local authorities did not approve the only location suitable for the BMX Supercross track. I truly believe that Monaco is the perfect setting for a BMX Supercross World Cup, where action sports meets fashion kind-of-a-thing, and we will do our utmost to have the 2011 SX finals in Monaco," says Johan Lindstrom, UCI BMX sports coordinator.

Remaining UCI BMX Supercross World Cup schedule for 2010:

  • July 29 – Aug 1 – UCI World Championships – Pietermaritzburg, South Africa
  • Sept 17 -18 Supercross #3 – Chula Vista, CA USA Olympic Training Center
  • Oct 8 – 9 Supercross #4 – Frejus, France – as part of Roc d’Azur

02/06 The Brisbane Bicycle Show 2010

AUSBIKE press release
Brisbane’s first bicycle exhibition to run in partnership with Bicycle Queensland’s largest participation ride.- “The Wilson HTM Brisbane to the Gold Coast Cycle Challenge”.

Brisbane’s first consumer bicycle show, to be held at the RNA Showgrounds in October, will be launched today.

With cycling participation in Queensland growing in excess of 10% a year a bicycle consumer show is long overdue.

Ausbike, which organises Australia’s only trade bike show, held in Melbourne, is the primary organiser in partnership with Bicycle Queensland.

The three-day show will run from Friday to Sunday, October 8-10 at Brisbane’s RNA Showgrounds “The Avenue”.

Ausbike CEO Simon Head said, The Avenue, which will be closed to traffic, will provide a great backdrop enabling us to create a street festival atmosphere and accommodate an outdoor demonstration area.

There will be three days of competitions, demonstrations and exhibits from Australia’s leading brands which will include;

  • A Ghetto styled BMX competition run by Colony BMX
  • A city street to trial the best in Dutch designed city bikes
  • An urban MTB enduro race through the rambling structure of the RNA grounds.

We are partnering with Bicycle Queensland to promote the show which coincides with the Wilson HTM Brisbane to the Gold Coast Cycle Challenge. Over 10,000 cyclists are expected to participate in this event which is the largest cycling event in Queensland.

So why hold a bike show in Brisbane? Well in addition to the continuing growth in bike sales, this is a very important area nationally for the bicycle industry. The climate its population growth, demographic and State and local government initiatives are all reasons why the growth will continue.

Simon Head said national as well as Queensland based wholesalers and manufacturers were expressing strong interest participating in the October show.
