31/03 Alienation Folding Cable Tires!

Alienation press release

They use a dual rubber compound for a prefect mix of efficiency, traction and durability. The center tread features a firmer rubber compound that boast faster rolling and increased durability, while the side knobs are composed of a softer, slower-rebounding rubber that improves control and grip.

What really sets these folding cable tires apart from folding Kevlar tires other than a 30+ gram weight reduction is the price. These new tires are a fraction of the price. Saving as much as 40%.

Currently these tires can be purchased at your better Independent Bicycle Dealers.

31/03 BMXtronic is back

BMXtronic press release
After a long break BMXtronic is back. Paul at Bmxtronic will now be making one-man practice gates for racers who would like to get the edge on their competitors, coaches who require a portable setup and those who want to make their backyard trails into a proper racetrack.

The gates have the random voice call, and also have timing to a sensor mat so riders can accurately gauge how their technique and training is going. The BMXtronic practice gates are portable, powered by a small battery they fold down without tools and will fit in the boot of almost any car. The gates use an electromagnet which makes the gate safe for kids to use and much less complicated than an air ram setup.

There are two options available, you can buy a complete gate rig ready to ride, or just the kitset which provides all the complicated bits and you will need to build a platform and gate from steel tube and plywood. If you would like a Bmxtronic gate get in touch with Paul by email surreyp@optusnet.com.au or call 0405 046 049. Also you will find Paul at most BMX racing events in NSW.

About BSX
BSX (Bicycle Supercross) is one-on-one sprint trails style racing on a backyard track built specifically to test a rider’s skills. The short straights, lofty jumps and tight corners are very intense under race conditions but also fun for competitors and create quite a lot of entertainment for spectators. The event provides a unique experience for the local Victorian riders, as well as the interstate and international visitors during an off day of the Track Attack series. The events primary function is to raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation. In just five years the event has raised approximately $24,500 which has provided the hospital with new equipment. Funds have been raised through gate takings, raffles, auctions and donations.

29/03 Australian BMX Industry strikes back

by bmxultra.com
For a long time the Australian BMX Industry has lost sales to international mail order, but that’s all about to stop.

About 9 months ago BMXMAD advertised that they would challenging you to buy from them first. They have been busting their bawls to match, or better, any price you can get overseas. You can bet that they aren’t the only ones that have been bending over backwards to help their fellow BMXers get the products they need.

More recently you would have seen the update from ECI, a couple of days ago, that has Profile cranks for cheaper than they can be bought overseas. Well that’s just the beginning. We know as a fact that you will see prices drop across the board and it’s only a matter of time that you will see other distributors finding ways to cut their costs and compete with the overseas market.

Who wins from this? You!

Before you buy anywhere else check with your favourite local BMX specialist and support the Australian BMX Industry.

25/03 Team bmxultra.com update – Clash of the Titans

bmxultra.com press release
The bmxultra.com team was at the Clash of the Titans at Park Orchards on the weekend. Levi Collins, Chase Collins, Kyle Horton and Aaron Rogers were flying the new colours.

Levi Collins, the 25-29 Mens world champion, is finding form again, he made his way to the semi finals of the pro open class in a tough field of 22 riders. But that’s where his day ended.

Chase Collins was also in the pro open class but his day ended early when he crashed heavily in the third moto.

Kyle Horton was the only bmxultra.com team rider to make it all the way to the pro open final, but stuck out in lane 8 it made for some hard work. Kyle got a good snap an was keeping with with the leader until the first jump where it looked like he came up short manualling the step up. This put him back in the field and playing catch up. When the dust settled Kyle finished up with seventh.

Aaron Rogers had some close racing all day and did well to finish in fifth place in the 30-35 mens class.

The bmxultra.com team is proudly supported by One Bicycles, Supercross BMX, Dirt Designs, Tioga, Elite Cycle Imports, THE, Profile, and Sun Ringle

15/03 bmxultra.com team update – WA Championships

bmxultra.com press release
The bmxultra.com team was in action at the WA State Championships last weekend with Matt Butterworth representing One Bicycles.

This would be the first State Championships in WA that held its motos and finals for cruiser and 20” on separate days.

Matt was racing in the 40-44 cruiser class on Saturday and did not drop a lap in the qualifying heat races, despite some fast competition from Frans de Swardt and Tony Keogh. The final was no different with Matt getting the holeshot into turn one and never being headed to the stripe, taking his first state title in nine years!

Day 2 was the ultra competitive 20” and Matt was looking the goods to take the double in the 40+ class. It would not be easy with Michael Harper, Brad Lane and Stay Strong’s Paul Andrews looking to spoil the party.  A 1, 2, 1, 1 in the motos had Matt with pick two in lane choice next to top qualifier Michael Harper. When the gate dropped Matt had pulled a clip and was spat out the back going into turn one. Sadly this is where Matt’s race ended, hitting the back wheel of another rider and coming down. He recovered to finish 7th but was later checked in to hospital where x-rays confirmed a broken collarbone. For the record Paul Andrews took the title (and a double for the weekend) ahead of Steven Donnelly and Brad Brown.

Matt is now in a race against time to be fit for the National Championships in Cairns but is confident of lining up on the gate in FNQ in 7 weeks time.

14/03 ONE Bicycles Australia TEAM at the 2011 ACT Championships

One Bicycles Australia press release (by Miekel Rose)
This year saw the ACT Champs at the home track for the Rosetribe! The lead up to the event saw horrid weather which hampered opportunities for the kids to get any track time. The Club itself managed to hold one race meeting and we travelled to Sydney for a charity day to support our friends up north in Queensland and began some training with the State Team. With little or no race practice, I was concerned if the kids were ready for such a big event. There were some big names coming to the event which offered challenges for the kids.

Friday – UCI Round 7 of Champbikx

Josh had decided to step it up this season and has been training well in the lead up to the event. Josh rode well in the heats of the 16 Boys Champbikx and made it to the semis with a final placing of 9th overall. Amazing effort as he pushed hard to keep in the top 4 all through the heats. Josh was pumped and looking forward to the next round the following day.

Saturday – UCI Round 8 of Champbikx

Josh came to the gate with a positive attitude for the Saturday morning event. Josh rode well in the time trial but drew a tough heat of riders and felt the pressure to make it through. Josh rode extremely well with two fifths and a third leaving him missing the semis, but still happy with his riding and now looked forward to an afternoons rest before the 20” at the ACT Championships.

Saturday Cruiser ACT Championships

Mikayla was competing in the 8 to 13 Girls Cruiser class and there were some hot contenders in the small class! Mikayla rode well and managed a first, second and a third to make it cleanly to the final for another year. Mikayla was riding for extra track time and to check her fitness and she looked on target for a good result against the older and bigger girls. When the gate dropped Mikayla came out flying coming in to the third straight in a battle for third. As they raced to the fourth straight Mikayla settled comfortably in the fourth place and rode over the line securing a 4 ACT plate on cruiser for 2011.

Nik was riding as the baby in the 13 to 14 Boys Cruiser class and like Mikayla was hoping for some good track time and race prep for the 20” class. Nik rode well with sitting comfortably in the top three in his heats against some big name riders. Nik made it through to the semi and was looking good for another plate in 2011. The gate dropped and Nik pulled in to the second spot in a heavily stacked semi with 5 other Australian Plated riders in to the first corner. As they hit the second corner Nik took a wide line and was slammed by three riders and pushed back to the sixth spot. Nik tried desperately to catch the leaders but I told him to shut it down and he rolled through for a seventh position. Nik was gutted after riding so well all event.

Sunday 20” ACT Championships

Mikayla had some tough competition for her 11 year Girls 20” class with 3A Ruby-Mae Hoad travelling all the way down from Cairns to have a shot at the Title along with 6A, 2N, 3N and a number of other State plated riders. Mikayla was very nervous before her first race as I felt she knew she had some tough competition too. When the gate dropped in her first heat Mikayla came out flying winning over Ruby-Mae for a start to her attempt to regain her #1 ACT Plate. In her second heat Mikayla had 2N and her rival Bianca Robertson to tackle. Bianca and Mikayla also had young Renee Williams nipping at their heels and on her way to bigger and better things in the class. Mikayla again came out flying and secured another heat win. In the third heat Mikayla took on Ruby-Mae again and once again finished first. This set the pace for the final. Mikayla had an amazing gate and led by three or more bike lengths to the first corner. Mikayla raced away with the final and finished first ahead of Ruby-Mae by half a second. Mikayla was stoked that she managed to win back to back ACT Championships and to kick off 2011 in good form.

Nikalus was in a stacked age group in 13 Boys, with almost all the Australian plate holders in attendance. This was going to be a good test for Nik who was disappointed after his cruiser event. Nik was on fire in his heats finishing with a first and two seconds looking quite comfortable against higher ranked riders. In the quarter, Nik smashed it again pulling a second and setting his sights on the semis. Call it ground hog day, but in the semi Nik had a great gate and was in second in to the second corner again and got nailed again by four riders which spat him out the back. I couldn’t believe my eyes it was like watching the cruiser semi. Nik missed the final and placed in 11th. Nik was shattered, he was so disappointed with his weekend and stated he will come back strong for the Aussies. I am sure he will.

Justin Beattie came to the event like many with little or no racing under his belt. A coaching clinic at the Tuggeranong track the weekend before with SE Team Rider Barry Nobles and riding with his ONE Team mates did no harm though. Justin was super strong on the weekend in the 12 Boys class, not dropping a race and riding well within himself to make it through to the finals for another year. Justin was unstoppable in the final and never looked threatened as he raced away with another number 1 plate for 2011. This kid is on fire and will be an almost certainty for an Aussie #1 plate again this year!

Josh was riding his 20” well and in the 16 Boys class after some positive results in the Champbikx event. Josh too looked comfortable for a lad who like his team mates had little or no race time in the lead up to the event. Josh was riding well sitting comfortably in the top 4 in his heats. Josh was stoked when he made the semis and was determined to get his first ACT 20” plate! Josh came out hard in the semi and battled well but was out powered and ran through for a fifth, missing the cut for the final, but managing a ninth overall for the class. With more training and some more race time, Josh will be a threat for finals in this class in 2011.

Josh and Justin board a plane and make their way to New Zealand for the Oceania UCI event next so I am hoping they come back with some great results for the ONE Bicycles Australia team.

Our family and Team had a good Act’s this year and really enjoyed having Mr. BMXULTRA Shane Jenkins and his lovely lady stay with us and they brought along a couple of friends too, Jason Bergstrom from the USA and Boss the friendly Rottweiler. Thanks for the company over the weekend and thanks for your ongoing support of the team and riders Shane, it is a pleasure having someone like you to turn to for support. I would also like to thank the family that is Elite Cycle Imports, for shipping up some bits and some new ITS Micro Knobbie 2 tyres for Mikayla, they certainly did the trick and helped her to cement the 2011 ACT championship. Thanks to my lovely wife who played hostess on the weekend and ensured the kids and visitors were fed and hydrated and sheltered whilst I worked, Love ya girl!

Great to see more ONE Bikes making their ways to families in the NSW region. Contact Brett Williams at BMXEDGE for a great deal, or have a chat to your local shop and see if they are hooked up with ECI and get ya bum on a ONE. They didn’t win an Olympic gold for nothing!

14/03 NBL And Strider Sports International Launch NBL Strider Cup Racing

NBL press release
Participants Will Be Eligible For Strider World Championships in Japan

GAHANNA, OH — The National Bicycle League and Strider Sports International have partnered to bring Strider Cup racing and the Strider World Cup to toddlers in the U.S. and around the world. Strider Cup qualifiers will be held at all NBL Nationals and feature no-pedal PREbike racing with classes available for 2, 3, 4, and 5-year-olds by birth year (ex. 2009 birth year will be 2-year-old, 2008 will be 3-year-old, etc.).

The season-long series will conclude with the Strider Cup USA Championship at the NBL Grand National in Louisville, Kentucky. In addition, any participant in an NBL Strider World Cup event will be eligible to compete in the Strider World Championships in Japan in October 2011. To participate in the NBL Strider Cup Series, riders will need to purchase a $25 NBL Strider Membership. This cost includes the entry fee for the first race and can be upgraded to a full NBL membership at any time.  The membership also includes a 1-year subscription to BMX Nation and an NBL Membership Card – the same card all NBL BMX racers carry.

Each Strider World Cup event will include an Adventure Zone featuring Strider test rides and opportunities for kids to play, learn, and socialize with peers while riding on two wheels.

NBL CEO Gary Aragon adds, “As part of our mission to grow the sport of BMX racing, we recognize the importance of introducing children to the sport at an early age. The increasing popularity of the Strider PREbike presents the perfect platform for the NBL to build a series that brings a taste of BMX racing to toddlers who are just learning the basics of bike riding. And already we’re seeing new families at BMX tracks looking for new adventures for their little Strider riders. We’re confident that many BMX racers of tomorrow will come from the Strider riders of today.”

Strider Sports International CEO Ryan McFarland says, “At Strider, we love riding bikes. But what we love even more is seeing really little kids light up with excitement when they get that first taste of freedom, mobility, and adventure that comes from their first bike experience. We’re thrilled to have the NBL promoting the Strider Cup Racing and Adventure Zone program as we believe it will further fuel that budding passion for riding on two wheels and inspire other kids to get outside, get on a bike, and give it try.”

Balance, coordination, and confidence all develop naturally when children experience group play and friendly competition on Striders. For more information, visit www.StriderCup.com.

11/03 Team bmxultra.com update – ACT Championships

bmxultra.com press release
The bmxultra.com team was at the ACT Championships at Canberra on the weekend. Levi Collins, Adam Carey, Shane Jenkins, and Jason Bergstrom were flying the new colours.

Adam Carey raced in the Probikes rounds on Friday and Saturday but didn’t have much luck in the tough Elite class. He must have been saving it for AA Sunday because he came out in his first moto blitzing. Unfortunatly his day finished with a crash in his quarter final.

Levi Collins raced in the AA Class on Sunday and had some mixed results and wasn’t able to progress, but he’s getting back to the form that won him the 25-29 Mens world championship last year.

It was Jason Bergstrom’s last event before heading home to the US after 2 months in Australia and he decided to do it in the 35-39 cruiser class. Jason just missed out on the main but was happy with his results.

Shane Jenkins rode the 30+ Masters class. Although a small class it was packed with some heavy hitters. Shane was happy to stay upright and settle for fifth.

The bmxultra.com team is proudly supported by One Bicycles, Supercross BMX, Dirt Designs, Tioga, Elite Cycle Imports, THE, Profile, Sun Ringle.

10/03 Morphine Industries Crew Makes a Perfect Impression on Emerald Coast

Morphine Industries press release
Ft. Walton Beach, FL was the next stop on the Florida State Series.  The panhandle brought out two of the team’s best in Mike Kapes and Richie Dey for a weekend of bumping and grinding.  The weekend started with Mother Nature letting us all know who calls the shots.

Elite Men – “Money” Mike Kapes took control of the class on Saturday with moto wins and a start to finish lead in the main to take the top podium spot.    Mike was determined to make Sunday a repeat by giving his fellow riders a long look at the back of his jersey.

Mike once again cruised through the motos and continued with a wire to wire finish in the main to repeat at the top podium spot.

11X – Richie Dey was not going to be out done by his Pro counterpart on Saturday…heck no.  He charged through his motos with top spots and kept rolling straight through the main with a top podium finish.

Sunday, Richie had the same challenge laid down by Mike…win straight out.  Richie did not shy away and repeated with straight ones for the day capping the end with a top spot on the podium.

It was a great weekend of racing a great weekend for the Morphine Industries’ riders.  The next stop for the Morphine crew is Atlanta for NBL Peachtree and for the last stop on the Florida State Series in Port Charlotte, FL.

In just five years the event has raised approximately $22,000 which has provided the hospital with new equipment. Funds have been raised through gate takings, raffles, auctions and donations.

About the Royal Children’s Hospital
‘The Royal Children’s Hospital is the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and provides a full range of clinical services and health promotion and prevention programs for infants through to adolescents. Each year the Royal Children’s Hospital treats tens of thousands of children through our Emergency Department, inpatient admissions and outpatient visits. The Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation plays a vital role in providing additional funding to support important research projects and purchase state of the art medical equipment to ensure that every child receives the very best treatment now and into the future.
