30/11 Prophecy BMX Welcomes Shanaze Reade

Prophecy BMX press release
Prophecy BMX is very proud to announce that Shanaze Reade has selected our frame to
achieve her new goals for the 2013 BMX season…

Some words Shanaze about this new partnership?

I would firstly like to say a huge thank you to GT/StayStrong for an amazing year and the
great support they offered me in 2012. I have big goals and challenges for 2013 and I am
extremely excited to be apart of the Prophecy family. I can not wait to ride all major
competitions on my pro XL Scud carbon frame. My first race on board the “fast machine” will
be the international indoor of St Etienne on the 8th/9th of December. What is your sensation on the Prophecy Scud carbon frame?

I first rode the bike on the Super cross track! This has to be the best product I have used!!!
More testing must be done but so far it’s very good!!
And even if I am in a heavy training phase, I did some 60 meter sprints that are timed. I
have just set my fastest ever time on the Scud carbon frame!! My coach and I were very
impressed…

“For us is a great honor and chance to have a so famous rider joining our Prophecy BMX
family…Personally I remember Shanaze when I was riding in UK, she was a kid and now the
kid became not only a beautiful lady but as well a BMX star…I am definitely one of his first
fan! Welcome Shanaze and so happy to have you on board!” Denis Labigang, President of
Prophecy BMX.

28/11 BSX2013 update – New partner Lazer Sport

by bmxultra.com
Wow, It’s just 7 weeks until BSX2013! We have a lot of work to do!
BSX (short for Bicycle Supercross, and is often referred to as Backyard Supercross) is a Royal Children’s Hospital fund raiser. It will be on again on Monday 14 January 2013 (during Track Attack). It will be the eigth running of the one on one backyard BMX race. BSX is the longest running event of it’s kind in the world and draws a large number of competitors from around Australia. The event has pulled a large number of international visitors and a many Olympians.

New Silver Partner Lazer Sport
Established in 1919, Lazer Sport is the worlds oldest helmet manufacturer. We’d like to welcome them on board as a silver partner for BSX2013.

While BMX racers may not use Lazer helmets on the race track (yet), helmets for general use are required by Australian law. With Lazer’s many years of experience in design and manufacturing you would be hard pressed to find a helmet that’s as comfortable or safe.

Click here to find out more about about Lazer’s cycling helmet range http://www.lazersport.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=19&lang=en

It’s the first time Lazer Sport has been involved in the charity event. Thanks to Lazer Sport we will have a number of helmets up for prizes.

To make sure you are in the running to win make sure you don’t miss BSX Monday January 14, 2013.

About BSX
BSX (Bicycle Supercross) is one-on-one sprint trails style racing on a backyard track built specifically to test a rider’s skills. The short straights, lofty jumps and tight corners are very intense under race conditions but also fun for competitors and create quite a lot of entertainment for spectators. The event provides a unique experience for the local Victorian riders, as well as the interstate and international visitors during an off day of the Track Attack series. The events primary function is to raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation. In just seven years the event has raised approximately $30,000 which has provided the hospital with new equipment. Funds have been raised through gate takings, raffles, auctions and donations.

About the Royal Children’s Hospital
‘The Royal Children’s Hospital is the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and provides a full range of clinical services and health promotion and prevention programs for infants through to adolescents. Each year the Royal Children’s Hospital treats tens of thousands of children through our Emergency Department, inpatient admissions and outpatient visits. The Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation plays a vital role in providing additional funding to support important research projects and purchase state of the art medical equipment to ensure that every child receives the very best treatment now and into the future.

27/11 Supercross Australia’s Esther Woodward at Victorian Championships

Supercross BMX Australia press release
Esther Woodward entered the Victorian Open State Championships as one of the favourites for the AA Women’s field despite it being her first outing in the AA Women’s class and her being one of the youngest in the group.

With only six riders entered in the class it was going to be tough with each moto being like a final and the outcome decided by overall points.

With two second places and a first after the first three rounds Esther had set herself with a chance to take the overall win, but it would take a massive effort to pull it off. Esther entered the third straight fighting out for second place when she ran out of track and had to do some cross country to find a safe place to re-enter. Unfortunately for her it meant her chances for the overall win had slipped away but she still managed a second place. A fantastic result by the youngster.

That’s another podium finish for Esther and another title to add to her rapidly growing collection.

26/11 Sam Willoughby wins USABMX Crown

BMX Australia press release
Sam Willoughby has claimed his second USA BMX Championship in 3 years after beating New Zealander and 2011 winner Marc Willers, while Caroline Buchanan couldn’t stop Dominique Daniels from winning her 5th consecutive title.

Willoughby went into the event in Tulsa, Oklahoma with 9 wins from 14 finals having missed the podium only once, facing his rival with 5 wins from 17 races. The best of 3 finals format opened up racing, meaning consistency was the key rather than being dominant for one hot lap.

The first final saw Sam deal a major blow to Willers attempts of back-to-back titles with the World Champion grabbing the win and the New Zealander placing 5th. Despite mounting a comeback in the next race to place second, Willoughby got the upper hand again by winning the race meaning all that was left to do was out place Willers for the overall win.

In the third final USA’s Connor Fields came through for the win leaving Sam Willoughby in second place for the Grand National win while Marc Willers placed 4th succumbing his title defence.

For Caroline Buchanan, she was right in the mix and looked as though she was going to take out her first Grand National. Leading the series by 31 points over Puerto Rican Dominique Daniels, it was never going to be an easy task with Daniels looking to make the 2012 Grand Nationals her 5th consecutive title.

Alise Post from the USA emerged as the greatest threat to Buchanan and Daniels and while Post hadn’t raced since the Olympics in August and was out of contention for overall results, the layoff served to freshen her for the Grand Nationals. Post was in sizzling form leaving Daniels and Buchanan to fight it out for the minor placings and the overall title as well.

In the end it was Daniels that proved her dominance yet again as she beat Buchanan for the overall win and in doing so etching her name in history with 5 wins.

For Willoughby, he now heads for a break after a remarkable year where he finished second at every World Cup event and because of that consistency, won the Overall World Cup Series. He won the right to wear the rainbow jersey after dominating the final at the World Championships in May to win in Birmingham before then standing on the Olympic podium where he was awarded the silver medal.

Continuing the exceptional year Australian BMX has experienced has been its constant number 1 ranking as a Nation with both Sam and Caroline finishing 2012 ranked as the number 1 BMX athlete in the world rankings. Australia currently has 3 female athletes in the Top 15 world ranked riders and 7 male athletes in the Top 40.

With the interest in Australia’s top BMX riders fueling the sport at the grass-roots, future stars can find their local club by going to the BMX Australia website to register their interest. Clubs around Australia will be holding a National Sign on Day early in the New Year where new riders can experience the sport before joining – there will be locations right across Australia.

05/11 Supercross BMX Australia’s new team member

Supercross BMX Australia press release
Since the Supercross BMX Australia team was first assembled we have been looking for a great female pro rider that’s willing to take on UCI Supercross style tracks. As you could imagine there aren’t a lot of riders in Australia who have the drive and backing to take their BMX racing to that level. We found it tough and decided we’d put the search on the back burners until a rider caught our eye.

It was a young female pro rider who was making a massive impact, shaking up the Victorian Pro racing scene and at the young age of just 15 she was making the podium at nearly every race she entered. She had a reasonable race bike but knew she needed the best equipment available to take her racing to the next level as she prepares to make the move into the junior elite ranks next year. Her decision was to go with Supercross. When the local bike shop contacted us we cut them a deal to make the decision easier for her.

We’d like to welcome Esther Woodward to the Supercross team. The decision to add Esther to the team was an easy one. Not only does she get results, she supports her local bike shop, making it much easier for the likes of Supercross, Troy Lee Designs, Speedline Parts, Dirt Designs and bmxultra.com to back her. On top of that she has a friendly personality and continues to challenge herself each time she hits the track.

Esther Woodward joins the Supercross team

Esther headed back to Tasmania on the weekend for the Tasmanian State Championships where she raced for Supercross officially for the first time. She came away the winner of the 16 girls class and caught the attention of the local media. The Hobart Mercury wrote a small article about Esther which can be seen here: www.themercury.com.au/article/2012/11/05/365365_sport-news.html

We hope to have Esther in the Supercross jersey soon, but until then you can see her flying Troy Lee Designs colours on the track.
