Where would be the best place to eat on Saturday night? I am staying at the Quest Apartments.

Phil.  The RSL about 1K up the road is pretty good.

Watching more racing is probably better from a spectator point of view.

I guess the down side is that you may not make race day through simply being squeezed or even taken out by another rider with the new format.

I watched both days.

For a first attempt it was better than I could have done.

Sure it was basic (filmed on an I-pad I heard) but far better than just relying on word of mouth.

No doubt BMXA will make it better each time if they continue with the idea.

No drop outs for me on Friday but it was a bit rough to watch today.

I understand that we had to watch adverts as part of the free live feed but I did like the advert countdown timer on the PC which allowed you to watch the advert during between races so that the parts you wanted to watch would be unaffected.

Well done BMXA for a first go at it.

Racing / Re: 2014 Shootout Series
« on: December 30, 2013, 11:29:10 AM »
Hi Guys.

Two questions.

Is this shootout similar to the annual Victorian TrackAttack series where we race 6 race meets over a 9 day period or is it over a longer timeframe?

Are transponders normally used for open meets in QLD?
(We held our last non transponder open meet this year after riders were given 2 years notice that all future open meets events would be run by transponder in Vic)

Just curious as to if/how other states are taking advantage of technology.

Don't forget that other 80's brand thats back in the game with new school CrMo race bikes.

The lighter 2014 Hutch Pro Racer model is just around the corner.

I wouldn't have thought that this should really be that hard to resolve.

In Victoria for the open state titles entry numbers by state & also by club are worked out.

Weeks before the meet a map is able to be viewed on the BMXV website & social media like Facebook showing what areas are allocated to each club/state.

If one club has more riders than another club it gains a percentage more room.

Sure its not perfect but it seems to work to a large degree.

I would have thought that something like this could work even if tent space is allocated by state as a percentage of entries per state.

Racing / Re: Open Days Trophies Vs Cash

Crossover to another thread.
Are you prepared to pre nom to get trophies instead of cash? Much easier for the club to write up envelopes and then when only 3 people turn up to a class put the money back in the kitty for next time. How many trophies will you order? Top 8? Then what happens when 6 people turn up. Two trophies that have to be relabeled for next time. Trophies that are half decent cost about 15-20 dollars each once engraved. Not really the cheap option and may cause more problems than it solves.
I am usually quick enough to be top 3 in my class which makes it cheaper for me to go racing for cash. Means more racing for me.
Just my thoughts.

J.

Hey J.

In Victoria all OPEN race meets are pre nom & transponder run events that close about a week before the event.

I would think that this helps with ordering of prizes in Vic.

Trophies, Plates, Medals, Ribbons.

Nothing is better than being able to look back at your prizes from 5,10,20-30 years ago.

The money has long gone but prizes from the mid 80's still bring back great memories.

Hopefully I will look back at this years trophies in another 30 years with the same uplifting smile & fond memories of racing.

I agree that trophies take up a lot of room ( or fill a few storage boxes) but plates dont take up much room at all.

When you ask most racers to show you something that gives them great memories of past events I am yet to see someone pull out a $20 note as their prized poession.

General Discussion / Re: Evs vs leatt neck brace
« on: October 12, 2013, 09:21:13 PM »
I use a Mike Day Leatt brace without any restriction in normal movememt.

I would recommend getting the DBX model as its designed for things like BMX with a fraction lower base.

Also do yourself a favour & get the adjustable version with front & back panels that can be raised or lowered to increase or decrease head movement.

That way you can tune it to exactly suit you.

General Discussion / Re: Race forks chromoly vs carbon? Options please
« on: October 12, 2013, 09:17:43 PM »
I have used both Carbon & CrMo forks.

Sinz Carbons, Answer Scythe's carbons.

I now use Elevn CrMo forks.

The Elevn crmo forks are lighter than my sinz carbons & a touch havier than my Scythe's

A lot of it depends on how you use then.

If you a rough rider that is prone to casing stuff then you will probably smash almost any fork on the market.

If your smooth then any fork should last you  many years.

I have seen both carbon & CrMo forks that have snapped.

Carbon technology is always improving & the first Answer Scythe forks are now about 10 years old & I still see plenty out on the track with no problems.

Go with what you like & what you think suits your riding style.
