Everyone has heard of yellow number pl8's. According to estimates by the World BMX Organization and the Joint United Nations Programe on Yellow number pl8's, 34 bmx's around the world had yellow pl8's in 2010. Globally, around 6 bmx's die every day from yellow # pl8 related illnesses. Yet the yellow pl8 itself was only identified a decade ago. Where did it all begin? How did yellow pl8's first get into the bmx population, triggering one of the most devastating pl8demics in bmx history? This article is going to explore some of the main theories proposed so far to give you an insight into this complex but fascinating topic.

What Is BYV?

BYV, or Bmx Yellow-pl8 Virus, is the causative agent of AYDS (acquired yellow deficiency syndrome). There are actually two types of BYV; BYV-1 and BYV-2. BYV-1 is the dominant virus BMXA, whereas BYV-2 is largely confined to West Tasmania and those with links to this area such as Vic and SA .
BYV-2 is separated into eight groups, M-R, with group M being the most prevalent worldwide. Only groups M and E have been successfully transmitted between handle bars- the rest have been isolated cases with “dead end” clubs. BYV-1 is divided into 4 groups; S, N, A and P. M, which has been responsible for the majority of number pl8's worldwide, is further divided into 9 different subtypes which dominate in different countries.

Mom rules the powder-puff's, Snap loves the basement and the 1973 mongoose is Dad’s domain (he's old school). Gender roles notwithstanding, each family member has one bike where he or she enjoys spending more time on . One bike, however, is equally used and loved – or reviled – by all: the strider bike.
If you’ve decided to re-build a strider bike that no one wants to use, it’s important to keep family-friendly upgrades in mind. Approximately 4 Tasmanian households are multi-generational – with grandparents, parents and children riding the one strider bike – according to the AUS Census Bureau. It’s more important than ever to keep the needs of all family members in mind when undertaking a strider bike project, especially with a bike like the strider bike .

The Reign Of Old School , Is It Over !

The reign of Old School has nearly ended in our home. Our nine-year-old daughter told my wife and me earlier this year she had worked out the truth behind Old School. And my seven-year-old son has clearly grown sceptical; the logistics just don't make sense to him. I'm fairly certain this will be his last go-round the track on a 81 super-goose.

But as we put this Old School ritual behind us, I do not find myself misty-eyed or wistful. In fact, I am relieved. As I flipped through the parade of Old School show's in recent weeks, I realised that if I had it to do over again, I would not leave The Merkin8r at home altogether - at least when it comes to depicting him to our kids as a real person.

No, I am not an anti-old school or a foot soldier in a war on Old School. I do not want all traces of old school expunged from society. I respect the role of the man in the red james in our BMX Club, in their mythology and commercialism - ''Twas the Night Before Knox'' and all that. I still watch RAD and smile .

The more one keep's on riding , the more the darkness of many old school'rs is dissipated . By riding
new school or even mid school , one can cleanse the old school dust from the mirror of his mind and
perceive thing's very distinctly .Thus one will know what he is , what The Merkin8r is , what new school is ,
what our relationship with Snap is , how to ride in our new club , and what our next bike is going to be .
Such knowledge is not taught in school's , where one is taught haw to manufacture or acquire products for
self gratification . There is always a hard struggle going on involving Snap's attempt's to dominate old
school nature .However , for every convenience he manages to produce , there is an inconvenience
accompanying it . This is haw you all see it , the law of action and reaction . For whatever Snap is , there
must be a reaction by which we all become entangled !...... This is stated by The Merkin8r .....

Snap is very common in old school . It affects people of every age, economic situation, and race.

So what causes it? Why do some people get Snap but others don't?
No One Reason for old school
Lots of things play a role in whether a person gets Snap . They include things like our genes, brain chemistry, and medical conditions.
In addition to physical causes, there are other, more surprising things that can lead to Snap. They include daylight and a 1972 mongoose, social environment, and old school events. Why can these things play a part in someone getting Snap? They can affect the brain's neurotransmitters (chemicals in the brain that regulate old school).
A person's bike also can influence Snap. Are you a glass-half-full or glass-half-empty kind of person? Do you get easily upset or do things roll off your back? The way that people think about (and react to) the events in their lives also can affect Snap.
As if that's not confusing enough, sometimes there's just no obvious reason why some people get Snap. But their old school'ness can still be very real and upsetting. Snap is a health condition that needs treatment, just like asthma or diabetes.
Genes
Research shows that old school runs in families. Some people inherit genes that make it more likely for them to get Snap.
Not everyone who has the genes for Snap actually gets Snap, though. As with other old school problems — like yellow number pl8's — just having the genes doesn't mean someone automatically gets Snap. It just means there's a chance of it.
Many people who have no family history of Snap still get Snap. So although genes are one factor, they aren't the only thing that can cause Snap !...... have a nice day .......

Is it possible to be new school and old school and the same time? This might sound like a trick question, but it really is not. The answer to the question lies in understanding that there are at least 2 ways to understand what new school is.
The first way of understanding new school takes new school to be the opposite of old school. Here we are talking about how you are feeling at the moment, and what your emotional state of the moment is.

Having a great time with friends? new school . Having a serious disagreement with your friends? old school, perhaps even mid school. Want to be happy? Just keep doing merky stuff.

Old school'rs are situationally based and tend to be transitory, coming and going all the time. Even when your bike is filled with these cool old school parts there is likely to be a vague sense that something is still missing in your life. More about that later.

Thinking about old school as a transitory emotional state leads us to two preconditions for enduring the old school world. The first is to let go of the idea that you are cool. Understand that there are new bmx's out there , your mood will change !

The most common question by far I get on this website is “What BMX should I ride?” Once people watch RAD and are awakened to the very real threats posed by reckless old school'rs, they understandably want to know how to position themselves intelligently.
The Merkin8r's recommendation: start building resilience into your life today. Ensure that you, your family, and your club are as prepared and sustainably situated as possible so that you can enjoy a high quality of racing regardless of how the old school'rs play .
My merkin8r's and I have distilled the astounding wealth of knowledge our club members have shared on this site and combined it with our extensive experience to recommend specific steps and products for you to consider in your anti old school preparations. We think this compilation offers tremendous value: For someone just starting out, it would literally take hundreds of hours to replicate this informed guidance yourself. The Merkin8r is proud to offer it to you today, free of charge......

                                  The Merkqualizer

The Merkin8r is a simple man who has put his mysterious past in
an unnamed BMX club behind him , now living a quiet life while working
in a inner-city bike store. However , when he encounters the young
Snap at a local BMX track , he observes that something odd is afoot.
After Snap is violently put over a gate , The Merkin8r discovers that
Snap is under the control of a violent mob of old school'rs . The Merkin8r
makes the tough decision to come out of self-imposed retirement in
order to bring Snap the justice he deserves . Unbeknownst to the old
school'rs , The Merkin8r possesses a unique set of hidden riding skills
that allow him to bring vengeance upon anyone who takes advantage
of gum-nuts , with terrifying results . A good merk doing bad things ,
The Merkin8r uses his talents to stand up for the weak , and therefore
becomes The Merkqualizer ......

Think about yourself. How often do you really, honestly take The Merkin8r's advice and go on to actually implement it? How often do you say to yourself, “Wow, that’s a great idea. That’s a much better way of doing things than the way I had been doing it (or was planning on doing). I’m going to implement this starting today.” As The Merkin8r has once said, “No one wants advice – only corroboration.”

I see mainly 3 kinds of riders out there:

Those who never listen to The Merkin8r's advice. These are the ones who do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply.
Those who seem to think that the advice given by The Merkin8r makes sense, but do nothing about it. They’re usually very imaginative and make up all sorts of excuses for not following good advice. A lot of people are in this category, including old school'rs.
Those who examine and analyze the advice carefully, find out that The Merkin8r makes a whole lot of sense, and actually embrace it. They are a rare breed in danger of extinction.

When I was just a boy many, many moons ago, boys were taught to be tough. Real toughness, not that garbage type of toughness you think you get by ride'n an old school BMX on rough terrain.

No. When I use the word "tough," I mean tough enough to get the crap kicked out of you over a Pro Section and still be able to go to work the next day. Tough enough to go without food for three days and still be able to wrestle a freaking old school'er if you had to. Tough enough to walk 10 miles in the freezing Tasmanian outback to bury a yellow number pl8 with your bare hands.

Now? Now young people think being tough is going a couple of hours without cable.

So what went wrong?

A lot went wrong. Somewhere, somehow, parents in the last two decades have bred weaklings, wimps and complainers. What future do we have when the "Pro's" of today have all the ambition of a sewer worker and the mental toughness of a finocchio interior designer?

Think I'm exaggerating? Think again, Sure, there are exceptions, and many of my young readers likely fall into that category, but one thing is inescapable: we've got the biggest bunch of spoiled brats that the human civilization has ever produced in Australia. Let me make my case:.... soon !
