Racing / Oxley Cycles Southern Zone BMX Champs

Less than 2 weeks out from a record breaking Southern Zone Championships at Caboolture BMX. Over 800 nominations received. First time for transponders at this event. It is going to be a huge 2 days.

Also, my parents are coming over from NZ for a few days. It will be the first time they have seen me race since I was 16, so y'all better let me win a couple

I raced Beenleigh on the weekend and was pleasantly surprised. The second straight rewarded effort put in and I was catching riders down there all day. I even pulled off a couple of very long manuals (at least for me).
 I am sure the changes to the last straight improved it, however I found it very difficult to stay fast and smooth through it.
The surface was interesting but I was copping a lot of grit in the face from the riders in front of me. Felt like more grit than from a crusher dust surface.

Off topic, but I see that Pine Rivers have also made some changes to their track today to make it more rideable. Good to see clubs listening to the people.

Who said the shootout series is dying? A record turnout in shootout history yesterday at Logan.  Tents put up everywhere. Novice classes were well subscribed. 3 gates in 35-39 20" with a top quality field. 7 gates of pro men. Top day all around and packed up to leave before 8pm.

Just a side note though. If you nom in a novice class, you should surely be riding on flat pedals?

well i like the shoot series,some really tough racing and every race counts..can't wait for round 2..as for Vic.6 races in 9 days? you can have that!!!! to hard for this old fella.ha!
i guess transponders will be compulsory sooner or later.thats ok it will be good for the sport and for self development.cost is a bit high when there are a few family members involved and riding 2 classes..

You can buy a lot of zip ties for the price of a second transponder. Just use the same one on both bikes. Pine Rivers has/is installing a transponder system and will run all their events (including club nights) with transponders. You will be able to hire a transponder, byo or run without and not be scored.

Wouldn't you know it. I stacked on the second straight at Pine Rivers last Friday night. Apologies to the 3 guys that ran into my crash, especially the one that came away with a damaged bike. I was going faster than my skill level allowed.

I haven't had the opportunity to ride Beenleigh since it has been changed. I have ridden Pine Rivers a couple of times at open day and club level. The second straight at PR is the one that gets me worried. There just need to be a little more back side on the centre double. Tend to fly off it a little right now.
The third straight is a challenge, but I feel with a bit more time on the track I will get it sorted out. I find that I like the challenge of getting it right. I love the last straight and the new start hill.

 Are you prepared to pre nom to get trophies instead of cash? Much easier for the club to write up envelopes and then when only 3 people turn up to a class put the money back in the kitty for next time. How many trophies will you order? Top 8? Then what happens when 6 people turn up. Two trophies that have to be relabeled for next time. Trophies that are half decent cost about 15-20 dollars each once engraved. Not really the cheap option and may cause more problems than it solves.
I am usually quick enough to be top 3 in my class which makes it cheaper for me to go racing for cash. Means more racing for me.
Just my thoughts.

Hi guys,  I would rather see a 30+ and 40+ class. This would give the quick over 40's the chance to test themselves against the quicker 30+ riders.
 My times at the recent qld titles were 1.5 to 2 seconds off the guys who won and about the same to the 35-39 class winners. I was also slower than the top guys in 45-49. Would be great racing to watch as well.

OK putting it out there for comment.... why are there junior cruiser classes? The reason cruisers were invented in the early 80s was to allow larger, older dudes a chance to ride BMX. Now we have 8-10 cruiser classes? If kids want to ride another class why not have voucher or better yet increase the moto count to five. The philosophy behind cruiser class seems to have become forgotten and junior cruiser classes seem under-subscribed anyway. Is it just a way to separate parents from more money or a a trophy hunting exercise?

Don't know about old blokes bitd. I rode a cruiser for a year aged 13 back in 1984!  Got NZ9 that year. Good fun.

My understanding is that while it is difficult to clip in,  you are much less likely to clip out. Also the shoe is far more rigid on the pedal offering more direct drive.
