Racing / Where are all the Pro riders in QLD??
« on: September 02, 2014, 01:37:59 PM »
I keep hearing about the need to make tracks to train the next generation of riders, but of the 2 most recent events in SEQ being the Sleeman SX event in late July where no male or female pro riders turned up out of 140+ riders, and Redlands on the weekend where there were 230 entries, only 8 male pro riders, and there were 12 female pro riders??

Are tracks wasting time, resources and money on pro sections?

Or are the pro's only interested in racing when there is money available?

Racing / Re: QLD Championships at Sleeman - risk to 'new' riders
« on: September 02, 2014, 01:21:58 PM »
I am equally concerned for those riders that are returning to BMX, guys that rode many years ago, say over 35's riders, many of these riders who come back to BMX are rusty on skills but have power and speed, and we all know Sleeman is not forgiving.  I have lost count of the number of riders that have broken bones there.  There are tracks that have technical aspects to them, but also allow riders of all levels to ride safely on.

National / Re: 2015 Probikx/Champbikx National Series
« on: June 20, 2014, 02:43:16 PM »
I hear you on this one, but I guess the riders can choose to go or not, or should it be the parents of riders can choose not to take their kids....yeah right!!
I personally would far prefer to see the Aussies run during the school holidays, and yes I know some states have slightly different timings for them, but surely we can align somehow?

My son who is in year 10 is thinking of not riding from next year as he wants to concentrate more on his school work, I know at his age I would never have been bothered!

It was my understanding that this series was costing BMXA a quite considerable amount of money to run(not profitable), now if that is the case why on earth would they expand it??
Or is this the return on all our membership fees?

Year 11 for my son next year, I am not keen for him to miss a week off school, it took 3 weeks to catch up after this years Aussies.

I hope in July we also get an idea of what classes are being run on what day too!!

The world according to the Merk / Re: Just Because - V-2

“The Merkin8r has come to the frightening conclusion that he is the decisive element. It is his personal approach that creates the climate. It is his daily mood that makes the weather. He possess tremendous power to make old school'rs miserable or joyous. He can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration, He can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. In all situations, it is The Merkin8r's response that decides whether a crisis is escalated or de-escalated, and a person is humanized or de-humanized. If we treat people as they are, we make them worse. If we treat people as they ought to be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming.”

You obviously suffered from severe mood swings during the Aussies, it was warm on occasions and miserable on others!

I know it's to years away but has anyone heard of any rumours for 2016 Nationals? I have heard one rumour but i wouldn't mind if anyone else has heard any??

How about Jingli in NT, not heard anything, just thought it myself, will have a covered track, albeit seating may be a little light?

General Discussion / Re: Article research: Cranks
« on: April 10, 2014, 08:57:59 PM »
Here is a blurb on the 5 sets of cranks we are running or have ridden in recent times:
1. 180mm Shimano DXR, at 100+kg I need something strong and stiff, all those I spoke to rave over them.
2. 180mm DK cranks, purchased secondhand cheap and they were my fav colour-Black
3. 170mm Bombshell cranks- arrived with bent spider, purchased as were black and cheaper than Saints
4. 170mm Shimano Zee cranks, purchased because of price, new were $120 and only needed for a second bike
5. 175mm Saints cranks, needed to go up a size for son and always loved the look and reviews of them!

Of the above I love DXR's and son loves the Saints
