Jayhawk Racing Frames a Follow Up

Since our sneak peek of the Jayhawk Frames attracted so much attention we thought we had better get a little more information about the frame and the thought process behind it.

Interestingly the Jayhawk frame structure is constructed from primarily sheet, which can be any material on planet earth that comes in sheet form, unlike conventional tube frames where you are limited to carbon fiber and weldable metals.

The prototype currently has some welds at the moment, but they will go away and they will start using sintered fittings and connectors.

Jim from Jayhawk says “Building bicycle frames from sheet material opens up a vista of new material choices, like titanium and magnesium alloy sheet, metal matrix composites, as well as carbon fiber. The herd is going for carbon fiber right now but some great pro riders still ride aluminum. They may have noticed how carbon fiber absorbs 3% of their energy, easily offsetting the weight savings. That’s no doubt why riders complained that GT UB2 was slow out of the gate.”
