UCI Supercross World Cup Round 5 at Sarasota This Weekend

Sarasota BMX Track in Florida will host the final UCI Supercross for the 2016 series this weekend.

Following the trend from Rock Hill last weekend numbers are low for a Supercross event. That doesn’t mean that racing won’t be exciting, it’s great watching new faces emerge through the Olympic wake.

Interestingly the Chinese competitors who were at Rock Hill aren’t on the entry list for Sarasota.

Australia’s Saya Sakakibara who finished an amazing second at her Supercross debut last weekend will return in the women’s line up, all eyes will be on her this time around to see if the youngster can back up the podium finish.

Belgium’s Elke Vanhoof will be looking to make amends after finishing sixth in her final last weekend.

Popular Australian Caroline Buchanan will be out of the line up again but statistically can still finish in the top three in the point standings of the series overall. Denmark’s Simone Christensen and USA’s Brooke Crain look poised to overtake Buchanan as they will jostle for over podium finishes.

Laura Smulders, from the Netherlands, appears to have a lock on the top spot in the rankings for now, but we all know with UCI Supercross racing anything is possible.

In the Men’s class series leader USA’s Corben Sharrah will lead a talented crew of country men while trying to tie up the series win.

Switzerland’s David Graf is in the second spot in the standings and looks to be the only rider who could knock Sharrah off the top perch, but he has a number of riders also nipping at his heals.

Argentina’s Exequiel Torres, 2015 UCI Junior Elite world Champion, is currently ranked in third place overall. Not bad for the youngster in his first year of senior elite.

Argentina’s Gonzola Molina who lead the Rock Hill Supercross final to just inches from the finish line will attempt to prove that last weekend was no fluke, it was his first Supercross final in his four years chasing the circuit.

The legend Latvia’s Maris Stombergs will be out to make up for his early exit at Rock Hill when he crashed out at full speed at the end of the first straight in the semi final.

I think the strong Australian team would have learned a trick or two from Rock Hill, keep an eye out on the Luke Madill lead crew.

I’d like to see Canada’s Tory Nyhaug take his time trial winning streak to five in a row and see him get on the podium for racing. I’m also waiting for Great Britain’s Tre Whyte to mix it up in the main, a supercross final could be all he needs to boost his confidence and push him to the next level.

We should also expect to see a little more from the Dutch army this weekend.

Don’t miss the racing this weekend!
