From what i can gather there are around 50+ Aussie nine year olds heading to NZ next year to try and strip Rico of his crown ... it's going to be a doggy doo-doofight in this age group for years to come.
Rico is a freak on a bike and I mean that in the nicest possible way, lovely kid too. He will be untouchable for years to come.... |

I cant really see what the problem is, there are 4 terms, 1st and last are 10 weeks each, middle 2 are 11 weeks. We used to pay $2 per training session, now we pay $25 per term, majority of riders train minimum of twice per week, so under the old system it would cost $40 for term 1, now it costs $25..mmm..I know which one I prefer.
I am guessing that is fine if you train twice per week, but what if your a Dad that likes to have a ride for fun with your kids twice per term, or a shift worker that struggles to make it to training or u have just started Uni and your BMX has to take a backseat and you can only ride once a fortnight? ?
Plenty of people in these situations and it is simply unfair to make them pay up front for training that they will never use. What if you are a family of 5 that ride, thats an additional $125.00 you have to find up front at the start of each term
There are already plenty of BMX families on struggle street but hey lets make it that little bit harder to enjoy this family sport. It is easier to find a couple of bucks in your pocket when you go to training for you and your kids than to pay a lump sum in advance.
If it aint broke why fix it |

Yes bioattack, I think you have crossed the line...you have made it way to personal.
I agree race69, the selection process is rubbish......qualify by riding some compulsary rounds within your own zone.....line them all up on the Thursday of the States and let them race each other for the top 3 positions....3 or 4 Motos and finals, the cream will rise to the top. |

If a child plays two sports equally as well and chooses one over a big bmx competition, how is this much different to what has been happening with the mighty elevens. There are only 3 ways you can ride for Australia in our sport.
1. The Olympic Games 2. World Championships 3. Mighty 11's
BMXNSW still promote this event as " the opportunity of a lifetime", what kid wouldn't jump at the chance to ride for their country. In the scheme of things, a Zone Carnival is not what I would call a "big bmx competition". |

You have contradicted yourself there AVAGO, sounds like you are attacking Wildcard riders. At the end of the day the fastest riders deserve their spots, yes it would be extremely disappointing for another child to miss out however these kids know who beats who consistently...so do the parents.
The criteria for selection is flawed in my opinion, especially where certain Zones are loaded with top riders...it is very unfair for some kids but at the end of the day I really do not know what the solution is.
Make the team selection from the previous Nationals perhaps so there is a clearer picture of who the best riders are that should have the honour of representing their State?
There definately needs to be some sort qualifying criteria when it comes to riding compulsary rounds.....perhaps after riding at these rounds along with your State Titles, submit a rider resume to your relevant State Board wherein they could make the selection?? The only problem with this is the need for people to be impartial and lets face it in this sport that can sometimes present a problem.
I just dont think a top rider should be "thought less of" if applying for a Wildcard if their reason is legit, top young riders also should not be punished with non selection for one bad race. Hence the reason I feel Moto points should be looked at, not just finals.
I like the look of the WA Criteria, at the end of the day wouldn't the State Associations want to field their fastest riders?
Like I said, the criteria needs reviewing and I would not like to be the one having to write it. |

What I'm getting at is there is no need for any of the people in this region to pay for accommodation, hire car or airfares when events are in this area.
Bundaberg is a 5+ hour drive from Brisbane, nobody can say that's in the Brisbane region, every person who attends apart from those from the Bundaberg club have to pay for accommodation.
Families & Riders in North Qld are required to travel 4 hours+ to every open day up here. If you want to be considered for ID or Dynamite Selection then this is a necessity, the average cost of doing this can be anywhere between $300.00 - $800.00 as our carnivals are spread out over 2 days to make the "commute' worth it. We pay for accomodation all the time.
In 2008 we travelled over 10 Hours (one way) to attend our Zone Titles, don't get me wrong, we enjoy the travelling aspect of things as well but to suggest the State Titles should be held in the Southern Region every year is grossly unfair to those that do not live in the area.
As stated in a previous post, this would turn the States into a Champbix/Probikx like event where only those that live in the area or those that can afford to travel the distance every year attend. The quality of racing would also suffer because there are many first rate riders that come out of the North, no-one wants to see that happen.
If you are talking the quality of the facilty/track, then the Cairns BMX Cub is as good as anything in the Southern Zone, others in the North I am not so sure about.
You have the Nerang Nats in your backyard, this is another great event that plenty of Northern Bmxers love to attend but costs are very high for the average family. I know it comes down to personal choice and picking and chosing what you can afford to do but if you are the parent of a talented rider you will do everything in your power to get your rider to an event like Nerang.
The rotation system is fair for all members and should be left in place in my opinion. |

Judging by that criteria my guess would be Townsville, I heard they are about to make changes to their track and they are a very proactive club.
I am unsure of the criteria required to hold a State Title meet these days when it comes to start hill size etc but last time we were in Townsville their start gate was still dead flat....and there is very limited area for spectating (not sure if this has changed?). You need a get up and go committee to even consider holding an event like the States and from what I understand Townsville Club does not even have a President
Interesting BMXQ appear to be sticking with the Zone rotation thing.....though it would have gone to Sleeman for sure! |
