1  New school racing / New school racing / Re: QLD State Championships 2010 on: September 27, 2010, 10:08:06 PM
We all have short memories about QLD Titles. Maybe because our children and us love the sport.  It is hard  i understand, when you have paid out so much money for accommodation etc to attend, then have elements of nature affect it.  Do some of these jolt your memory???

2005 - Toowoomba  - Gale Force winds, tents, AA Men(Before the Jnr/Snr Elite) getting blown off the track. Freezing like New York winter, gotham city like, windburn worse than any sunburn.
2006- Townsville- Good
2007- Gladstone- Good
2008- Cairns - Also rain delayed for few hours to let track dry out.
2009- Ashmore -  Dust Storm eastcoast of Australia. Visibility/ clean air - Low
2010 - Mackay - Rain/Mud

The thing that bothered me most was the lack of atmosphere this year due to seperating the challenge classes and jnr/elite/champbixx/probixx.
Each day was lacking in spectators. Not just from rain either, as we know of parents who had sprockets left Friday night/sat morning.  We left early hours of Sunday morning coz challenge finished Sat etc. When normally the racing is over two days so you will be there anyway. OK for the Aussies because more riders involved therefore more parents/spectators.  Just my thoughts.
P.S By the way, no matter what happened this year, bet we won't care  by Sept 2011.  '

See you all next year. Wink

pkaye,

The Nerang Nats dates are always the first Fri, Sat, Sun in January. Next year is no different.  Friday before is New Years Eve and still December, not January. So the Nerang Nats should make no difference to this discussion at all. Hope that helps.

Thanks,
Mikki

There was some boys who usually race in 12 boys racing at Casino last year. They were still 11 at the time.  From memory a couple of those boys made the team that went to N.Z. Hayden Jones and Jarod Berry who now race 13 boys. So the Aussies do the same, just maybe not this year.

The Nerang Open Day on June 5th will also be an Old School Meet.  The flyer will be out soon with more details. Anyone interested in showing off some of their bikes/gear and racing in this event can contact the club.

Funny ND.  All true. Just like to add my own.

1. What about riders dropping the F bomb in front of their parents and others parents.
Bit of respect.  You know what i'm talking about.  Ha ha.

6  General Category / General discussion / Re: WARNING- Anyone who attended Yandina- Lime health risk on: March 01, 2010, 08:53:35 PM
Hi Everyone,

I started this post as a warning only, to those riders who had attended this meet, so they could check their bikes. My original post was to inform, not point the finger.  I was careful not to lay blame on the Sunshine Coast BMX Club or any particular members of this club, although it is hard for some people  to keep emotions out of this situation when so many are up for a very costly repair/replacement bill. (Us included).

The health warnings are what  i  now have concerns over, and am grateful that thanks to Trace Vince, the meet was cancelled,(due to the rain) and no-one was seriously  hurt or physically affected by this.

I will personally contact someone from BMXQ regarding this thread and pass on all of our concerns.

Spinnin,

You are not on your own. We have been fielding phone calls from people with frames stripped of paint.  Hubs, hangers, rims etc totally wrecked. A lot of very angry riders. Don't know why they have lime on the track, but think will have a lot of explaining to do. Big dollars involved in damage to bikes.

8  General Category / General discussion / WARNING- Anyone who attended Yandina- Lime health risk on: February 27, 2010, 08:53:22 PM
WARNING to everyone who attended Yandina on the Sunshine Coast today.  The track had lime all over it and is starting to eat into the paint work of a number of bikes already. Our sons Chris King hub has had all the paint removed from it.  Not happy. A $600 hub now worthless. Pass this on to anyone you know that has been on this track to clean there bikes ASAP. Thanks,

Mattco,

I emailed some more photos of the Nerang track to Gorey, and he was kind enough to put them on for me. (Photobucket and myself just dont seem to work together) They have been posted in the Photograph section under the track re-build. A side on view of the Pro straight. And a couple of shots of 1st and 2nd straight. By the way, Nick Deininger mangage to successfully jump(3 times)  the whole pro straight last night. Stiffy Janssen, and Alex Ulyate hit up the first jump. It was fun to watch.

Have some more pics of the track. Too bad i'm not so good at uploading them onto here. Will ask Gorey if he can help again.

As already mentioned first and second (Pro) straights looking good.
Pro is 9m double and another 9m double then transfer into second corner.
Amatuer is Step up, double, double, step up, step down into second berm.

Gorey,
Thanks heaps for posting the pics for us Gorey. Really appreciate it. Love the Anna Meares photo. Looks a bit like a velodrome at the moment. First and second straight( Pro Section) are slowly taking shape. The old finish line is now the second berm and a viewing area. Will keep you all up-to-date as the track takes shape.

Here are some photographs of the Nerang track major re-build. Smiley, Fatty, Mick Hattin, Bracko and the boys have been hard at work. The track as you all know it no longer exists. It has been flattened, and process has started from the ground up. It is a major job, and a lot of work,  but will be worth it in the end. The track has been closed for a couple of weeks, and will probably be out for a couple more, but come down and check it out soon. Watch this space....................
