dude it was a pro gate with springs thats why it made those funny noises when it drops...
"dude" That isn't a Pro Gate. They might have a Pro gate Ram and Controller but the gate is not Pro Gate from the photos i have seen. |

| Sorry for not being clearer.Yes either like the Cove or like the Pro Gate they use at the worlds that are 8 little gates. These are spring loaded so they cause minimal damage.Over the ditch all the new gates are either of these.I didn't realise The Cove was the only one like that.I think we must have copied. |

| I wasn't over there but my son was on the gate and told me what happened. He was pretty gutted that he didn't get to race his final .Surely in any sport you can't have a rule for every circumstance so commonsense must come in to play.I would have thought the fact that the whole 8 went over the gate would have indicated that something was not right(the officials can't see every thing).A talk with the riders after would have confirmed that then do what is fair .Otherwise its a long day not to get a fair result. The disappointing thing for me watching the video (it is a new gate???)was that it wasn't a safety gate.16 hands getting mighty close to being under it. |

My 2 cents worth I have run Kings on my 2 sons bikes for 5 years.Out the box i was shocked with the drag and wish i had brought my 2nd choice Stealth. One set has more drag than the other and still has .I service these about every 3 months. You don't need special tools but you need their grease.Taking your time its about 2 hours a set. Both of them say how smooth they run and hate riding anything else (which means a spare set of wheels would be expensive ).The thing i like with these as my kids get more powerful is there is a full 72 points of engagement unlike most others , not offset pawls giving more positions but only 3-4 points of engagement .The Profile elite look good and are well made with less drag. They still don't offer 72 points of engagement only 24 off memory.Had nothing to do with Stealth but understand from those i have talked to that the engagement is soft.End of the day you need to service every thing or wait till it fails and replace it.The only problem i have had is the needle roller bearing failed in the rear hub which was easy to replace and only about $15 due to water. Not too bad considering i have had 10years combined running. |

| Hey Kevo you must be a mainlander because they use that stuff down there.I agree if you get the water to run of the track then as a long as it doesn't rain to much it will be good. That is why it isn't only the shape of the jumps [for those that ride] but the crowning and shape so the water doesn't sit. That takes a long time going to track when it raining to see where the water sits and then fixing. How do get on with the crusher dust when it is really dry does it get really loose. All the tracks i been to for track attack use something on them like that don't they.My boys say that your tracks when dry are pretty fast and really smooth to ride on .Some. |

Ok I don’t have any close ups of the surface these will have to do until I get over to the track. I am in winter sport mode at the moment. So we haven’t got our wires crossed the stuff we used is what we use for roading no rocks added. An agent was sprayed on to the track surface then the hot mix was dumped on and racked even and then rolled with a quad very lightly. We did those corners in less than a day. The rest of the track has Race rock with lime over the top. To my mind if you have a solid base and then a surface on top that is bound to it and the water doesn’t sit on in big puddles you have a track no matter what the weather throws at you. If you just put a surface on top the rain gets through and you end up with a soggy mess and putting more on makes it worst. Some mentioned Lake Macquarie and it was a lake when we went there last June lucky that didn’t happen a few weeks before at your nats. Some of our tracks would have up to that amount of rain and still produced a good race track. The last thing you want is to be at the mercy of the weather when you are trying to hold a race meeting. Sorry for going on. I will see if I can the product description for what was used. Ian

Ok this is from across the ditch where we have a fair bit more rain than you guys so much that our sport is really just a summer one. We have various things on our tracks as your visiting riders would testify. Mainly we use lime but that doesn’t hold up to well with lots of water ,ruts and soggy. The trick seems to be get a decent base before you put the lime on. What we use at some tracks and it works very well is another type of lime which is called race rock appropriately but it is made for the farmers cattle races. It is fairly time consuming to put on especially on the berms but goes very hard and binds the lime on to it. It resists the rain very well as long as you have drainage .We had Tom Ritz {world track builder} do our track a couple of years ago and he tar sealed the corners [bitumen] very quick to do and zero maintenance. The trick was how you rolled it i.e. not too much. In the heat of summer it seems soft but boy is it fast and makes for good racing wet or dry Our tracks definitely hold up better in the rain than the ones I 've been in oz but yours scrub up better and quicker once damaged. I would definitely go the bitumen way for the corners but do it properly

Don’t Get me wrong I’m not only slagging the Oz trip because what I’ve seen the NZ one isn’t a whole better but we run it at our 2nd biggest meeting. This event was originally set between the Ipswich Club and a prominate bmxer from NZ who had a vision for the future and what a great event they achieved after all it has been running for 20 yrs. Maybe it has degraded over the years so we should look at improving it. It seems that there is a lot of people in Oz that don’t know too much about it, we pitted next to one family at Lake Macquarie who had come from Mackay? Thinking they had to for their 11yr old to qualify apparently they didn’t. Yes you could Tag it on to your Track Attack 1 moto per Round or just at the last round that would be good everyone could stay at Wonga Park that would be a culture experience. You could do something similar in NZ travelling around to different Tracks [citys] with just a few hours between most finishing at the venue for our Nth Islands much better than last year where the Aussies flew in raced a Clubday had a Barbie then drove to the city where the venue was and practised for about 4 days wow!!! By racing at different tracks there is a whole lot of other 11yrs that would get to race the travelling countries riders and may be little bro and big sis as well[isn’t that what the sport is about racing] .Andrew Hughes came with big bro Kyle M11 that was good for 8yr class except he took the money [just joking]
I too wrote this before reading Michelle’s Reply Cathleen says Hello Andrew and Michael say hello to Luke Hopefully we can save some money to come to Track Attack after the amount we just wasted going to Lake Macquarie. Still we had fun in the rain just like home. You are right BMXA needs to get behind it these kids are the future of the sport |

From a Kiwi perspective M11’s is a big thing bigger than the nationals that year. Not many sports does an 11 yr old get to represent their country in a team event and in our case learn and perform the Haka and that’s a big experience with our Haka coach. They are proud and so they should be. We trial the day before the nationals for the team that comes over and a month before you guys come over. I can’t see how a CV cuts the mustard there is 2 different UCI age groups racing .From my observation at Lake Macquarie it was little more than a club day ,150 odd entries 25 were Kiwis , a non event. You can’t blame the weather entries closed a long time before that. Their was no interaction between the teams apart from on the track. This is supposed to be a culture experience between the 2 countries. From my experience last year in our country the parents[kiwi and Aussie] made the effort .My son [family] caught up with Aussie M11s @ Track Attack and @ Maitland the other week. This year the Kiwis got to go to a school and do some bike skills and then scare them with a Haka and that’s about it .The Aussie kids did nothing. I would say in a few weeks time they won’t even remember who they raced.
Remedy 1. The 2 teams should stay together so they can do things together [school visits, activities] and to make friends as 11 yr olds with the same interests do. 2. You guys should trial @ maybe your State titles select the best however many and then help them to go to the final show down to pick your Team. That would work for 1 of your Teams. 3. There should be more race meetings to make the trip worth while for both countries ie different tracks to make it worth while. You might bring the little Bro or Sis to race as well
This is a 20yr event that the countries should get together to make better. XBR Training camp and Track Attack is a lot better culture experience let alone race meetings

| What i do is take the chain off the bike and put in a bottle with a screw lid half fill with WD40 and shake the living daylights out of it.I actually have a couple of bottles and transfer the chain to the 2nd as the first gets pretty dirty.Leave to dry and wipe as much off as you can.Refit to bike and apply a wax lube as this does not attract the dirt/dust to the chain.Over a season i might do this a couple of times or after a really wet meeting.I lube the chain every meeting and check for wear by measuring as often as i clean. My wife lets me know if i'm not doing a good job by the chain marks on the kids pants |
