positive vibes
« on: July 29, 2009, 10:38:08 AM »

I keep having recollections of cool things i witnessed in Adelaide - post away if you have some to share...

#1 Redman welcoming the Neeeeeew Zeeeeeeeaaaaaland in the opening ceremony and the kiwi fans erupting into the haca in the finish straight stands.. was pretty damn cool to be amongst them.

Yeah i think Redman was great, really enjoyed his commentary. How was the atmosphere when they started playing AC/DC "Thunderstruck" and all the stands were thumping?

We were right next to the kiwis when they did the haca? it was awesome left me with goosebumps. Whole event was very well run and the atmosphere was fantastic. All riders showed great sporstmanship, we met some fantastic people and made lots of new friends. Well done to everyone involved.

Well done Mark, I read all the negative stuff when I got home and haven't logged on again until now.

We had a great time and yes there where many special moments.
  • Most of the internationals I spoke to while helping out at the BMX Mad pro shop were fantastic.
  • Out at the repair shop there was one Japanese guy that was willing to pay $50.00 for something Rod Turner charged him $5.00
  • Yes the "Stomping" to Thunderstruck was spine tingling
  • Saturdays racing was like watching the final of a states or nationals in every moto, let alone when they got serious in the finals
  • Redman really knows how to get the crowd going
  • So many Aussies in the finals. It's a pity more can't get to the worlds every year

all as mentioned -

BUT when it comes to racing - how about Strombergs and his effort to come back and get 4th in his 1/4 or 1/8th final - THAT was something special!!!

We had a ball even though our son missed the cut and didn't ride.

Brett you're right that ride of Strombergs was something I don't think I'll forget for a long time. As I watched I thought he was gone for all money and then to see him dig VERY deep on the last two straights to make it through was something very special indeed.

When you heard Thunderstuck fire up, you knew it was game time. How much noise can a few Brazilians make?? It was unreal.

yes seeing strombergs coming from behind in his 1/8 was a highlight
thought he had no chance of making top four as he was so far behind on the second straight.  anyone manage to film that race? would love to see it again.
also when Daniel Johnstone bailed on the second pro double, did not think think he would have walked away from it, but he got straight back up and finished the race, the crowd went wild!

This was the first Worlds I have been to and my little girl got to represent her country against the rest of the World. Though she copped a tough draw and went out after the motos on both bikes, she had an absolute ball and being able to watch the World's best compete is something I will cherish the rest of my life. She managed to get her photo with Maris Strombergs and Donny Robinson and got their signatures and was over the moon. The atmosphere and racing was unreal and I hope to try and save for another opportunity for my kids in the future should they get a chance to qualify to represent their country.

The racing was awesome from the elites all the way down to the young kids. The commentary was great from Redman and the Aussies. The atmosphere and crowd was great. The event ran extremely well and was very professional for a pro-am event. The track look very challenging and was up to the standard in my opinion (wish I could have had a roll).

Oh, and for once I didn't dread being in Adelaide.

One of the highlight was surely Strombergs getting back up from the brink of disaster to transfer from his 1/8. The other was my daughter qualifying for her semi after she had a horrible time at nationals.

strombergs comeback after being dead last in an elimination final was definately my highlight (apart from my own racing experience). just goes to show anyone out there its not over until the fat lady sings!

i was not much of a fan of Redmans commentating before the meet, but now i understand why he is the best elite caller, he was nearly as amazing as the riding!

the general atmosphere was something i have never experienced at a race before and i dont think i ever will again. it was without a doubt most amazing week of racing i have had!

WHAT AN EVENT!!!! Grin

that was the biggest international event that my family had attended. it was great, the atmosphere, the freindships made, just great.

pitty my little girl had two big crashes one in practise and one in her first heat, she managed to still make semis but didnt make past semi's. just disapointed for her

Congrates to all riders. especially those who earned themselves a plate.
