Got no idea what I'm doing but this is my maiden tag/comment/blog or whatever you call these damn things, BUT

Now with the 2012 World done and dusted I started looking into the 2013 World in Auckland (planning) and where it supposed to be held in the Vector Arena and the problem I can visualise is the size of the arena's floor area at 75mtrs x 37mtrs.

When you compare this to the dismal track at the equestrian joint WA in 20?? (a few years ago anyway), that arena floor area was 70mtrs x 30mtrs. Getting my drift here!!. The UCI track build recomendations indicate an area 100 x 60, so it looks like the 2013 World track could be 2/3rds the proper UCI size, so what's the deal here. The NIA in Birmingham was/is 100 x 60 (with tribunes retracted (whatever that means)) and they had 2 x pro straights. Got all this.

So it would appear that if the 2013 Worlds are in the Vector Arena as planned, there is no way they'll fit pro straights in the 37 mtr width and the straights will be very short, corners very tight and there could be lots of T boning just like WA equestrian centre a few years back. 10mtrs wide 1st straight + 5 2nd straight + 5 3rd + 5 4th final straight, adds up to .?.?. 25 mtrs of track not accounting for the edge drop-offs.

Can you imagine having a 8 mtr UCI start hill with a less than 75 metre 1st straight!!.

What are others thoughts (if you care to comment) ??

Good question #86Senior,
Also raises another point, in Australia the sport seems to going in the direction of bigger longer SX style tracks.
However the World Titles are being held on short technical courses in stadiums. Totally different style of riding involved.
With the Aussie titles being held at the Sleeman SX track next year then the worlds in a Stadium in New Zealand soon after will our riders be prepared.

Thanks for commenting Cyclops. My main point was the disappointment of the possibility of have a sub-size UCI conforming track for everyone to race on. Great its close to home across the ditch, but surely NZ have some bigger arenas, they always boast the're better than us Aussies, look at 2003 at Burswood Dome and 2009 in Adelaide, they were reasonable sized indoor tracks and now it seems we're going to have this toy track for a WORLD class event in 2013, I don't get it.  Sad

Maybe it will just be a single supercross track and there will be no challenge classes?

...the Vector Arena........floor area at 75mtrs x 37mtrs........
Can you imagine having a 8 mtr UCI start hill with a less than 75 metre 1st straight!!.

I'm not a fan of temporary indoor tracks........I'd prefer to see investment of the funds into a legacy track.

But for Worlds we're running on the Northern Hemisphere calendar....Worlds are July 2013 (summer up top). So, definitely needs to be indoor for 2013 in NZ........brrrrrrrr.

Interesting observations wrt size..
I expect that there may be some compromise, 2009 Nationals had the start ramp in the seating area. Could be something similar to increase 1st straight lenght.

I'm pumped that the 2013 BMX Worlds are in NZ.......well done to the kiwi crew bidding for the event; they tried several times.
