90+MPH on a bmx bike.
« on: February 16, 2007, 06:26:30 PM »

Well whats left of one.
Take the cranks off (replace w/platform to kneel on) ditch the chain, throw some pegs on the back (for feet) turn the bars down and add a banana seat. Your set to go.
You could also add on fiberglass motorbike fairings.
Not much involved in the making really, just gotta have the ball's to ride it that fast.
I've added some pics, enjoy

Don't laugh Fletch, it could be. hehe
I had a bike just like that, the only real difference was, the colour. (black and red)
You could leave it anywhere anytime and it was always there when came back. No one would steel it, i don't know why???.

There have been a few of these bikes spotted around Victoria as they raced them in the X games about 5 years ago down Mt Danddy. Vic MTB had one in there shop years ago with 125gp suspention and disc brakes.

When I raced back in 1992 we turned the forks handlebars over droped the bars down ran no cranks or seat & did some down hill roads we may have got up to speeds of 80-100kms,we know cos one of us would follow down in a car.Just thinking of that later in life if we crashed we would have got ran over by a mate -Smart thing to do?

Yo dudes,
"YES 100km's an hour is possible on a bike"
Just some facts for those who do maybe 50km's with body armour & full face helmets down a bmx start hill....back in the 1950's on an old school road race bike& a vintage road race helmet my father-in-law {he was dutch champion twice & TOUR DE BELGIUM winner twice in the 1950's] was reaching speeds of about 85-90km's often throughout Belgium during races.

BUT in the 1960's an Italian during the TOUR DE FRANCE was reaching speeds of about 110 km's. GOD KNOWS what speeds they do now on their high-tech carbon bikes...but I will find out from one of our cousins who just recently retired riding Professionally for RABO BANK including the TOUR DE FRANCE a few years ago & will post.

These & any bike could reach these speeds 90-100 km's it's JUST DEPENDENT ON IT"S CONSTRUCTION & THE RIDERS ABILITY to hold during the death wobbles. As CV first stated it just a matter of having the "Niagara Falls" to do it especially without body armour & full-face helmets. Still I wonder why Road-Racers want to wear poinzy fluro lycra outfits...maybe they think they've got huge assets & want to pose off....??

safe riding....& I'm happy to just have the full-face & body armour...skama

I seriously forgot about this post & had the info ages ago...anyway along the flats during the tour they were averaging about 90 kms & downhill about 180-190 kms.

Also I forgot to mention that Italian guy in the 1960's doing 110km's a few days later went over one of the "70 metre" cliffs during the mountain legs and somehow had enough speed to go with the eventual cliff face gradient, land it and roll. Somehow he only suffered a lot of cuts & bruising ??

give me body armour anyday...at least if & when they headbutt me & elbow my ribs hopefully I wouldn't feel much. Only the nieve think any form of bike racing is for wusses. Especially in Belgium where my brother was theatened to be stabbed by some of the other racers if he kept winning the race sprint purses during a road race. They decided instead to only take him out, one on each side of each handle-bar..the old up & under.

safe riding ..skama
