I personally can't see it running at the Nationals for a few reasons.

Firstly, some of the riders who would be under consideration may be running in the Dynamite final. Where do you put your priority, Pre-Title Wednesday, Dynamite Thursday or Age Champs Friday???

Secondly, This is a BMXNSW run event and I can't see BMXA allowing anyone to rain on their parade.

Totally agree with Sprocket Dad.
The fairest way to pick the team now is by resume. I know there will be some kids that miss out that have been racing very well over the last few months but they can't expect parents to come up with the dollars and time off work once again to compete at a qualifiying event.
Sprocket Dad is spot on the Nationals is not the event to pick a Mighty team.
We are spuing that it got canned as my daughter has trained very hard but Iapplaud ACT BMX for thinking of the riders saftey and not there hip pockets. We will still be making the trip south in the coming years. Smiley Smiley

I wonder if the resume process will only be available to those kids that entered for the event here in the ACT or open to all comers?  Huh

That is if it runs by resume of course!

If it does get chosen on resume it is only fair to take the resumes of the riders that entered the ACT's. They can't open up the nominations again.

Hoadie the Kiwis from memory pick their team from their Nationals, which is usually the Easter weekend. Not quite sure what format they use but I'm someone could enlighten us. To try and change the schedule at Mt Gambier now would be difficult.

In the Boys looking at the entries for the ACT's it was strong. Anyone who thought they had a chance entered. To me there are three standouts who would do the country proud.

In saying that, I noticed on the BMXNSW website that there is a note that says "Qualifier event to be advised." There are a couple of NSW Opens before the June 9 but who knows what they are thinking.

BTW does anyone know who got the coaching job? It was to be announced on the weekend.

Be difficult for them to add the Mighty 11's to an event now after what has happened! It would mean that certain riders would miss out due to having to travel back to NSW again! It also adds pressure to any event willing to take this on with such short notice and the impact for accommodation and travel plans would be a pain!

Be interesting to see what BMXNSW do, but I hope they think it through carefully to ensure that Australia fields its strongest Team!

BMXNSW holds two major events each year.

The "Pre state titles/Mighty elevens" and the "BMXNSW State titles".

Both events are held during NSW public holidays.

This adds extra costs to families to attend as accommodition is peak season due to the public holiday.

Also presentation is not held at the track like the Nationals or the ACT titles but later at an RSL or sport club as nominated in the BMXNSW State title's bid procedure.

Resume is the way to go for Mighty 11's in 2012 otherwise BMXNSW will put the event on the Easter weekend!

The June long weekend will be busy at Southlake. A great track, was there last year for the Super Southlake Open and we had a good time and some mixed results, but thats racing for ya!

What event is held on the Easter weekend in NSW?
I believe it will be a huge expense for many people if they reschedule this event before the Aussie's, I for one will find it difficult to take my daughter. I am not a big fan of selection by resume, but with these circumstances I don't think they have a choice.

BMXNSW holds two major events each year.
The "Pre state titles/Mighty elevens" and the "BMXNSW State titles".

BMXNSW State titles are closed.............no-one else (except ACT) can compete.

I vote for mighty 11 qualifier at Pre-nationals Mt. Gambier

I stand by this statement...........

Kiwis use their Nationals as the qualifier for Mighty 11s....with great results!!!

All serious / potential Oz Mighty 11s are going to be competing at both Nationals and Pre-Nationals....

.......there is no additional costs...........these guys are already competing..

The difference is age classification.......age on day comapred to age at 31/12/12....that's why I suggest pre-titles to separate from Dynamites.

So far I have not seen any comments that address producing the best OZ team.......more protecting personal positions. This particularly relates to calls to limit any applications to those entered the ACTs, that reflects strongly the accusations of cheque book racing.

My view, the BEST mighty 11 competitors are at nationals.

But there will be too much riding for the kids in the Mighty 11' at the Aussies, with Pres, Mighties, Dynamite, Age and cruiser. Not really a crash hot idea! too late to reformat the event anyway, plus I know there has been talk of this in the past and it went nowhere fast with BMXA!

Maybe one day but this year would almost have to be by resume and only for the riders who were entered! This would be the fairest way considering the circumstances! We can speculate til the cows come home but BMXNSW will let us all know very soon I imagine! Just hope they don't add it to some event miles away or we too may have to miss it! Just shelled out $820 for Aussie entries!

I also believe I did say I hope that BMXNSW consider this carefully so that we field the strongest Team!

It has to be a race format to decide the strongest team currently riding. No other sport in australia has a resume selection to make a national team, everyone is complaining about additional costs to go to another race meet in nsw, becoming an australian representative in any sport is not cheap. To make it in any sport requires talent and money, and unfortunately if you dont have either you are going to struggle to achieve your goals. It has been quoted by an australian hpp rider that there  budget for the year was $70 000 dollars to live and race all supercross races, so what is your plan for your kids if they want to chase an olympic dream?? I get tired of people thinking that bmx should be a cheap sport, i wish it was too, but its not, so if you want to expose your kids to all the big races then its going to cost you. Ask mark weber how many millions of dollars it cost him to get to formula 1, before he ever got paid to drive.

Does NZ have a Dynamite series? Australia has this feeder program to Probikx/Champbikx and that makes having additional events for the younger riders at a National round diffficult unless it can be run after the Dynamites or incorporated in that series or due to age taken from results and times in the age classes themselves.

To hold an additional event only adds to the racing for the kids and takes away from performance and actual results!I am noticing that it is harder and harder to allow my children to race cruiser when they compete in the additional classes (UCI/Dynamite)
and see the cruiser classes fading!

I think that BMXA need to run this program as it is an Australian Team and need to give it more weight as it has been going for some time now! I also agree it needs to give the best riders in the country a chance to be a part of the Australian team, how they manage that will always be contentious!

I think before people get up on thir high horses, that the issue at hand presently is the fair and best way to get an Australian Team this year after the ACT's were cancelled. If we are talking about just this issue then it would be very difficult to hold another event at such short notice and to then be fair to all tho se who previously had entered to contest it in the first place.  Smiley Wink

I was happy to have a race to determine the Team at the ACT's as I too am not a fan of the resume process. I have already had one child miss out from this process when he should have been in the Team! Let us just see what happens and no matter what it won't be good enough for many as usual in this sport! What will be will be!  Cool

Ok I have had word from BMXNSW that they will be making their selection in the following way......

Only riders who entered the Mighty 11's event in conjunction with the ACT Championships are eligible to be selected if they do not ask for a refund from that event.

The results will be taken from the 20" Championship day at the 2012 Australian Championships, with the fastest times from any moto sorted in order - fastest four riders will make up the Team/s.

This is an interesting way to do it as I mentioned in my previous post but a fair way and hopefully the best Team will be selected considering the situation.

What this does also do though is ensure those riders who nominated to be a part of the Mighty 11's attend the Nationals! I wonder if that then sees some exclusion or issues! I hope not.

Big thanks to BMX NSW for a speedy decision regarding this dilemma! Well done.  Wink

That's the best outcome possible.

Actually they should do this every year, it would be the best way to pick the team.

Good compromise......

This must be one of the most innovative uses of transponders, getting results from riders aged 11 running in different UCI classes.

Nice work NSW
