Mmmm seems the track was safe for some and not for others. Seems unfair to make a decision to use the track for champbikx/probikx, when the titles were cancelled due to the condition of the track and surrounds. Now there are 2 riders in hospital with nasty injuries and a whole lot of time and money spent on getting there, waiting around running some motos and then cancelling. At least Canberra bmx made a decision reasonably early, as annoying as it was, as we were more than 3/4 of the way there, but better to do that than let everyone get there and stuff them around for 2 days and then pull the pin. Safety of the riders is important, ... money Huh BMXA they love taking it!!!

Would I be correct in thinking that if the UCi event is cancelled and UCI points can not be obtained

UCI rules focussed on road racing:

1.2.014 Any change to the date of an event included on the international calendar shall be subject to prior authorisation by the UCI or, for a UCI WorldTour event, the Professional Cycling Council at the request of the national federation of the organiser. If there is a change of date or if an event is cancelled, the organiser shall be liable for a fine the amount of which shall be set each year by the management committee, subject to recourse to the arbitral board. The decision of the arbitral board is final and not subject to appeal.

The pertinent bit is:
if an event is cancelled, the organiser (BMXA) shall be liable for a fine

This is OK for road events..... where riders aren't required to jump +9m in high winds......track surface is tarmac and not washed away / soft..

However, the UCI rulebook contradicts itself.....

1.2.130 In the event of any non-compliance that cannot be rectified in good time, the start of the event may be delayed or cancelled or the event may be stopped.

Perhaps the following are "non-compliances":
 - high winds (Bunbury)
 - washed out track (ACT)

Curious to know if the age classes didnt race , was it due to dangerous conditions, if so would the riders who raced, have  had to sign a waiver or something, who would the buck have stopped with if things were too dangerous. I thought if conditions where to bad for any riders why let some race. In other forms of motorsport if a track is dangerous they dont let a certain catergory race.

She didn't need to she had accrued enough points and was not prepared to put her future events in danger! Very sensible decision in my opinion! She did go out and do a warm up but decided to pull the pin! Wise choice as it all turned to poo not long after!  Shocked

Message from the ACT President,

NOTICE TO 2012 BMX ACT CHAMPIONSHIP PARTICIPANTS

It was a difficult decision to postpone the 2012 ACT Championships and I believe the right one.

Canberra like most of SNSW and a large portion of Victoria received what was to be record rainfalls with the constant threat of flood in the lead up to our event. Rain did occur constantly from early Saturday afternoon and didn't stop until 2pm on Sunday and what would have been the entire period of the Championships. This with a track, parking and surrounds that quite frankly wouldn't have stood-up to what mother nature threw at us in the lead-up to this event.

We will re-run the 2012 Championships at a date yet to be decided.

As you may be aware there are several requirements to be considered and discussed with stakeholders and the ACT Committee before any decision is made on a new date, which likely to be in the latter part of this year.

I ask all to be patient while we consider options on dates and we should have a new date posted in the coming weeks.

I thank all for your patience and understanding on this matter.
Regards,
Stephen Thomas

UCI Calendar has some short term changes:

2.3.12 Probikx/Champbikx  ACT Australia  UCI Class 4
3.3.12 Probikx/Champbikx  ACT Australia  UCI Class 5

3.3.12 Asia Continental Championships    Hong Kong UCI Class 3
4.3.12 Hong Kong BMX Golden League - Round 1   Hong Kong UCI Class 4

Hmmmmmmm, should've sent 5 riders to HK.......more points and safer.

This may be a bit premature but I will ask anyway.

I couldn't race the ACT titles because of shiftvwork requirements.

Is there a possibility that when a new date is announced that entry's may re open?

Just wondering as some people may not be able to make the new date when it's announced while others may love to enter.

Cheers all.

Hey Aussieruss I reckon they should open up again as there would be many families that forked out a lot of money to get to Canberra last week that can not afford to get to the event when it is run later as they have already spent the money for this event, so there will be cancellations anyway so why not open up event when new date is announced. I know some families paid big $$$ to the airlines to get home early when event was canned.Huh Huh Huh Huh
