ACT Champbikx 16 Boys Final Crash
« on: March 03, 2012, 10:55:10 PM »

This one was hectic. Got a couple of angles.

From the looks of things, Kyle Borresen slips out/falls over, then Curtis Dowdell slams into him, sending him into a half front flip. Kai Sakakibara then half lands on Curtis and goes down himself.

If the family wants this removed, give us a buzz, easy done.

Jordan Lecher and Kyle Borresen collided in the air over that jump.  Thanks for the footage - we weren't there and does make you worry when you only hear what happened...

Two of our States true contenders taken out in 10 minutes! Neither will race nationals, Shane out for at least 6 weeks (longer to rebuild) Curtis we are still not sure.  I think the family would appreciate the sensitivity and respect shown so far in light of the seriousness of his injury. The BMX Community has been fantastic in it's support, care and concern for both these boys.
Many thanks

Here is a link to Gorey's Vids.  There is another angle on the incident..

http://www.goreysvids.com/2012-National-Series-Round-5.php

It shows the collision between Jordan and Kyle. One straight earlier this year.

From Gary Harlow on FB: "Curtis is still in hospital with spinal injuries and a punctured lung. He has full feeling and we wish him a speedy recovery".

Question: ACT Titles were postponed due to safety concerns. Should Champbikx/Probikx. May have prevented two serious injuries.

The track didn't have anything to do with this incident.  It was purely a racing incident.

Thanks for the update on Curtis. I'll let Kyle know..

While I technically agree with you Hearnie, we must remember that serious injuries happen all the time in BMX. I feel for the poor bugger though as it looked like a horrible crash. Similar to the one from the worlds cruisers in South Africa

Curtis had surgery yesterday and all went well.  Theere was less work to his vertebrae either side of T8 and T9 than expected whch can only be a good thing.  He is in a lot of pain at the moment. Still a long road for his recovery but he is a great young man and very determined.  He is hoping to be home in SA in mid April at this stage.
His family thank everyone for their concern, support and best wishes over the past 2 1/2 weeks, Curtis has really appreciated this and it has certainly helped him through.
