The new Ironman Melbourne championship, on Sunday 25 March 2012, is one of only a handful of similar Ironman events around the world.
More than 2,000 triathletes, including some of the best in the world, will compete in the 226km race. The course includes a 3.8km swin in the Frankston Foreshore, a fast and smooth 180km bike leg on EastLink, and a 42.2km marathon run from Frankston to the Ironman Asia-Pacific Championship finish line, located at the iconic St. Kilda Sea Baths.
To enable the bike leg of Ironman Melbourne to take place, EastLink's northbound (citybound) carriageway including the Melba tunnel will be closed:
on Sunday 25 March 2012
from 4am
until 6pm.
Please seek alternative routes, e.g. Springvale Rd, Stud Rd and Maroondah Hwy. We apologise for any inconvenience.
EastLink's southbound (Frankston-bound) carriageway (including the Mullum Mullum tunnel) will NOT be affected and will remain open throughout the day.
Please note that the northbound (citybound) carriageway of Frankston Fwy will also be closed, as well as other roads in Frankston including Playne Street and parts of Nepean Hwy.
