I love dogs & am always happy to stop & give them a pat at the track.

However in answer to your question the law would not treat any incident at a track differently to one that occured at any other public venue.

I remember getting a nip from a dog or two as a youngster (not at a track).  My parents seemed to know who was responsible & I got a foot up the backside for stirring the dog up.

yeh i see the shepp race this weekend has a 'no dog policy'  I ran over a small dog at a downhill race last year , didnt crash but it cost me time on my result and annoyed me how careless spectators were at that race ... i know all racing is a risk , but imagine if you'd made the commitment of training and big $ for the worlds only to be injured by a loose dog on the track ? thats up there with RC cars buzzing the track while youre trying to train

Why do people feel the need to bring their dogs to the track anyway?

Because they are part of the family, my little critter always come to the track with me. But always on a lead, never let him loose on a track. Always let him loose in the forest when mountain biking though, loves chasing me and the kids for 10km's or more. But would not let him loose if a race was on.  Owners just got to use a little common sense.

It doesn't bother me whether dogs are at tracks as long as they are restrained an in no danger of running onto the track. interestingly I did spot a few dogs at Shepparton on the weekend.

I used to take our Husky to the track when he was alive, but stopped doing it as he was a huge distraction for the kids. They would stop training and just sit and play with him for ages.

The last President of our Club used to bring her cat to the track and had it on a lead too which is amusing!

Ha, who remembers the Happy Valley (SA) Nationals? Old frts cruiser (I think we were "only" 40+ in those days) had a re-run of one moto after several of us were "disadvantaged" by a stray dog! And we wern't even going fast enough to hit the mongrel. But that was an unfenced public park and the dog wasn't associated with spectators at the event.

But I have no problem with dogs at events provided they are well behaved and looked after. Much like children I guess.

Would rather dogs compared to some of the mums and dads that are allowed off their leash!

Could you take a dog if it had its own personal transponder?
