Olympic BMX spotting
« on: July 19, 2012, 10:22:18 PM »

Seen lots of articles on olympic sports and athletes, has anyone seen any BMX articles or tv interviews etc. When they talk medals are we in with a chance? If so it would be good to see BMX mentioned. Does BMXA have a public promotions team or person to capitalise on things. Go Aussies!!!

Caroline has been promoting the living daylights out of the sport and has been on wide world of sports, morning shows and Sam is in a poster at our Westfield store also! This is a great opportunity for Clubs to be promoting the sport at schools and encouraging the kids to watch the olympic BMX event )even if it is recorded for them) and get more kids out doing our sport!  Wink

Don't leave everything to BMXA, we are all responsible to promote our sport!  Grin

Well there won't be any swimming for them to show, so the odds just increased.

Channel 9 did a big Olympics TV Guide in one of our papers a few weeks ago & guess what ....................................... NO BMX anywhere.

I hope one of the Aussie's bring home gold & the public can bag Channel 9 for what has been a appalling telecast.

They didn't show Anna Mear's race the last night because Prince William & his hot squeeze were doing some interview. Who cares about Wills & Kate!?!?

At least Foxtel is showing the racing on London 2 from 11:55pm EST on the 8.9 & 10 Aug. 9.55pm for me in the West thank god otherwise work would be crap the next day.

They have actually been promoting Caroline as being 'an unknown that will become well know' in some of there general promo things.  Weather they are being misleading or not I don't know but to me they are hinting they will show it.

My other concern is who will be commentating, expert commentary is critical.  Having some  idiot yelling 'Theres a stack! theres a stack!' when there is an intense battle up front and has no idea just reafirms the publics perception that bmx is a novilty, one off sideshow. We all know BMX is well established proffesional and highly competitive, the commentary needs to reflect that.

If its Phill Ligget its going to be done with a sly undertone, if its the guys from last year it will be the above and if its Eddie Macquire or Damian Bradshaw we are in trouble.

I hope its not Phil Ligget after his comments a couple of weeks ago.

What has annoyed me in WA is that we have seen in our papers Lauren, Caroline & Sam (which is great) but no Khalen as yet (unless I missed it).

He is a WA boy & the third BMX Olympian from Wanneroo BMX Club. You would think that would at least be worthy of a mention!?!?!?

Maybe the tattoo's make him not the poster boy of choice?!?!?

I had heard KY was paying $61 dollars for the win on the betting scene which i thought may be worth a $10 back. With the swimming and other cycling finished hopefully BMX can get some good coverage and with the lack of gold, if one of the Aussies get gold the BMX will be everywhere then.

Thats what i reckon. Watch the Free to Air stations try claim these riders as their own if one gets gold.

I'd put money on KY at those odds!!

It will be Phil Liggett and Scott McGory - they have been instilled as the commentators for all cycling events.
