General Discussion / Re: Pedals
« on: June 28, 2014, 07:54:38 PM »
I've had the same Shimano pedals for 4 years. Every 6 months (before Nats & before my States) I put new cleats on. Very rarely unclip.

I did find that once 2 screws on the pedal itself had unscrewed a bit a were binding on the pedal cage stopping the cleat mechanism from rocking freely & allowing me to clip in properly. That caused heaps of unclips until I found the cause.

National / Re: 2015 Probikx/Champbikx National Series
« on: June 22, 2014, 08:37:51 PM »
I know these are run on weekends, but there has to be some travel time either side... so what about school for the kids?  Not a priority??

Nationals are two weeks outside of most school holidays so why would the time taken from school to race the National Series bother them?!?!?!?

Nationals is treading dangerously close to Naplan dates too. If they overlapped my sons school would not let him race Nationals.

My kids now get 4 weeks school holidays. Just awesome!!  >:(

Makes no sense to me to hold an event for a sport that is dominated by children so far outside of the set school holiday dates. WA, QLD & NSW all go back to school on the 20 April. Victoria looks like the 13 April which makes it even worse.

Am I missing something?

It's always been the week after our school holidays too.

Mt Gambier was early. 20th April 2012 will always stick in my mind.  :-\

Thanks GT.

Normally there's a major song and dance throughout the Nationals as to when and where the titles are being held. Well we all know where, Sleeman, as it was announced last year and they've got it in 2017 as well.

Can't believe they've not figured out a date yet, .....well actually I can. :o ;)

I think it will be a week earlier than this year otherwise it will be two weeks past school holidays. Kids already miss a week as it is.

From what I see the training going on in the west is showing big results.

I think the A team Distro rider of Paul Thorpe will be wearing the skinny digit in his age
You might be on to something there Harto. ;)

Even though our Crackerjack team has not been selected yet my boy is already saying he wouldn't want to do two big days back to back. His focus is purely on his age class on Friday.

When you think about it, PreNats, Crackerjack & Age in 3 consecutive days is a big ask.

While we are making predictions I will go out on a limb here as it worked for Mt Gambier. 10 Boys Sam Thorpe.

General Discussion / Re: Junior Cruisers - what's the point?

My boy races both 20" & cruiser. He currently rides in 8-10's.

I gave him the option to race voucher as well as his 20" but he chose cruiser.

Yes it means an extra bike to cart around & extra cost but I don't really care. He is having fun. To be honest I reckon he rides the cruiser better than his 20".

My daughter will get the same choice when she is old enough.

I choose to ride 20" & Cruiser. I feel kids should have the same choice.

Other cromo frames I can think of are

  • Syndicate

Syndicate Cycles Pro XL is 4.1lbs & Pro XL Cruiser 4.2lbs according to their brochure. I rode a XXL 20" & XXL Cruiser for 2 years. Weight was good.

General Discussion / Re: Race forks chromoly vs carbon? Options please
« on: October 13, 2013, 07:08:41 PM »
I was a carbon fan but after returning from a badly broken wrist I found the feedback from the front wheel too harsh with carbon forks. My wrist use to hurt badly after riding.

I changed my 20" to a crmo fork & noticed the pain stopped but it came back when I rode my cruiser which still had carbon.

I won't anything use but crmo on my bikes now for mainly that reason plus I have seen enough carbon forks break to put a bit of scepticism in them for me.

Both my kids run carbon. Their choice. They look cooler in other words. My 9 year old boy has destroyed a set of Daggers after a good 50/50 though.

Other plus for crmo now is they are cheaper & some are now lighter than their carbon equivalent.
