General Discussion / Re: Race forks chromoly vs carbon? Options please
« on: October 26, 2013, 09:41:32 PM »
I'm running S&M chromo forks, and glad that I do. Forever casing jumps. Was looking at the new box components carbon forks. All their stuff looks very well designed and built. But then I realize how hard I am on my forks and front end, I think better of the carbon option.

This may be very left field, but what about instead of cash for winnings, how about gift certificates for your local bike shop, a win win, money for kids to upgrade bikes and gear, and a stimulus package for the Aussie bike shop community?

Also a great idea Big block !!

A great write up on this topic in the recent BMXpress. I am of the strong opinion that the only classes that should win money should be the pro classes. For several reasons. The biggest one being that, that is what defines a "Pro" class. A professional makes money at what they are doing. Some very good points already made in this thread as well. Commissioner's proposal for prizes is pretty much spot on. Also, from what I have seen, the only ones claiming to want prizemoney in the age classes, especially the younger ones, are the riders who are riding those classes.

Racing / Re: 2014 UCI BMX Rule Book
« on: October 22, 2013, 10:03:20 PM »
Maybe some people should read and fully understand some of these rules before they think they know it all.

At this years Nationals, during practice, my rider came back to me quite distraught after two "officials" at staging told him his pants were too short and if he came back tomorrow he couldn't race. Way to do a kids head in. Paint the picture, he had 'Skins" underneath and his socks went over the 'Skins'. There was ABSOLUTELY NO SKIN SHOWING!!! Probably only a couple of inches between the bottom of the pants and the riders ankle .

To the fashion police, the UCI does NOT specify any minimum length, end of story. As I couldn't be bother fighting the case at the Nats because the annointed ones are better, I bought another pair of pants at a cost, do you want to chip in? I thought not. >:(

Funny thing is my rider heard one of the two nationals fashion police at a recent state title telling riders their pants were too short.

I hear ya. The unfortunate outcome of giving some people responsibility and power. Start making up their own rules for no other reason than to feel important. Makes you wonder what they do with the rest of their lives. What can you do though ??

I spent the time to do it, but you have to live in Victoria to register. So sorry, but I did try.

General Discussion / Re: Evs vs leatt neck brace

My opinion, forget the EVS altogether. Rubbish. I wore a leatt for 2 years, hated how much it restricted movement but continued to wear it. Stopped riding for a while. Started riding again and didn't wear it. Realized how much more movement I had without it and it was like a breath of fresh air. Sold it on eBay a week later. My experience.

Definitely places restrictions on who can attend. I also agree that there is no need for pre nomination for open days.

Hi. Looking for a new bike. Haven't had a 20" for a couple of years and just been riding my cruiser. If there are any good 20" for sale I would be interested. I am in Brisbane. Thanks in advance.
