30/06 Definitive off-season list update
It's starting to become a debate as to weather or not we do have a off season in Australia. It was suggested that we move to NSW where they have club races every weekend and open days every second. Not a bad suggestion, but I must admit after 23 years of racing I'm happy to not be racing every weekend through winter.
Here is the list so far;

Thanks to those who have contributed so far, remember the off-season list is for this week only.

30/06 Beastie Boys giveaway very soon
We have negotiated with EMI records and will soon be receiving a bunch of Beastie Boys gear to give away including copies of the new album To The 5 Boroughs, hats, stickers and transfers. We will be giving half the prizes away at the track at the next race we attend and half on the web. Full details will be available when the prizes arrive, which should be in the next couple of days, if all goes well.
For the moment check out the Beastie Boys website at www.beastieboys.com. (We might be asking you a question so study up.)

29/06 Definitive off-season list
Yesterday we called for our readers to tell us what they get up to during the off-season, while it's cold, wet and windy outside.
This is what we have so far;

Thanks to those who have contributed so far and for the rest of you guys, keep 'em coming.

29/06 BMXPros.com Race Report
NBL Stars & Stripes Nationals South Park, PA
The NBL 2004 Pro series held Round #5 over the weekend of June 26-27 at possibly the best regular BMX track that that the NBL has to offer, South Park, PA. The South Park track is loved by the Pro's and top Amateurs, as it incorporates skills, speed, and huge jumps. The South Park track always draws the largest moto count for the NBL and this year was no exception. To win at South Park in more than just a race victory, its an accomplishment for any rider! Here is how the BMXPros.com riders finished up at the beast in the East, South Park.

Randy Stumpfhauser has always liked South Park, but by the end of the weekend, he loved it, as he won 3 out of the 4 Pro classes he entered this weekend. On Saturday, it was a prefect day for Stumpy as he won AA Pro with an incredible come from behind pass in the last turn and then went onto win Pro Cruiser start to finish. On Sunday, Randy looked to duplicated the incredible feat, and just missed out as he finished 2nd in AA Pro and once again took another victory in Pro Cruiser. Randy's sponsors include GT Bicycles, Hyundai, IRC Tires, Shimano, Fox Racing, Smith, Sun Ringle, Bombshell Forks, AC, Thomson, Powerbar, CTI Knee Braces, Easton, Marwi, FSA Headsets, S & M, Cyto Sport, and BMXpros.com.

Kyle Bennett just retuned from his Honeymoon to get his bike packed and head off to Pittsburgh to race South Park. On Saturday, Kyle looked smoother than ever, rode strong, but amazingly was held back to 5th place in AA. On Sunday, Kyle laid down the power and finished an impressive 3rd in AA. Kyle looked great in his UCI World Champion jersey. Kyle's sponsors include Free Agent, KHS, Answer, Sun Ringle, UGP, Truvativ, Velo, Vans, ATI, Shimano, Profile, Powerbar, Smith, Cyto Sport, and BMXpros.com.

Brandon Meadows has been haggled with an ankle injury for the past few weeks, but to watch him ride in South Park, you would never have known. On Sunday, Brandon was in both the AA Pro main and Pro Open main events placing 7th in both. Brandon looks to next weeks race in Detroit, Michigan to once again ride in the main events. Brandon's sponsors include Specialized, O'Neal, Oakley, Adidas, Tangent, Cyto Sport, Shimano, Sun Ringle, Powerbar, and BMXpros.com.

Cristian Becerine continued his Pro Open winning streak in South Park with a super fast lap in Pro Open on Saturday taking home the win. On Sunday, Cristian was in a horrible crash in the AA Pro semi, keeping him out of the main. But he bounced right back and was ready for the Pro Open main event on Sunday, where he placed 3rd. This is one tough guy. Cristian's sponsors include Crupi, O'Neal, Answer, UGP, Sun Ringle, Marwi, Shimano, Powerbar, BMXpros.com, Cyto Sport, and Thomson Seat Posts.

BMXPros.com proudly represents Cristian Becerine, Kyle Bennett, Wade Bootes, Dale Holmes, Christophe Leveque, Brandon Meadows, John Parker, Jamie Staff, and Randy Stumpfhauser. For more information on any of the riders listed, please visit BMXPros.com or for information on sponsorship or the services of BMXPros.com, please e-mail Pete Dylewski @ PeteD@BMXpros.com

Yours truly, Pete Dylewski, hit the South Park track and I was super motivated by the Double A Marketing riders, giving me the extra push to do my best. On Saturday, I made the main event in my Amateur class. With a moment of glory in the first turn, taking a very short lead of the race, I was passed by 2 riders, giving me 3rd. I was happy, but knowing I could do better, and getting some tips from the guys, I was ready for more. On Sunday as the gate fell for my main event, I took the holeshot and never looked back, taking home a win. I am truly lucky to be able to travel to races and work with the top pros of the sport, and I want to thank all those who support me! My sponsors include GT Bicycles. Hyundai, Fox Racing, Sun Ringle, Shimano, Thomson, IRC, OGIO, SDG, JBL, Tangent, Answer, Toolshed, S & M, Marwi, and BMXpros.com

28/06 BMX worlds 2004 rocked Cologne for the 5th time
BMX Freestyle world championships: 23. – 27. June 2004
600 riders from 26 nationalities met in Cologne to live up to the BMX worlds 2004. More than 30.000 spectators witnessed a barrage of new, progressive and ever more complex tricks in the disciplines dirt, flatland, miniramp, street and halfpipe. This event surely confirmed the status of today’s BMX and took the sport a big step ahead.
Especially flatland BMX is the BMX discipline with the highest training effort, a synergy of sports, acrobatics and aesthetics. Besides a 20“ bike flatlanders need extreme body control, a good sense of balance, endurance and an individual style. The mixture of flavoured beats and a roofed flatland area with 500 qm wooden floor are their ideal playground.
Flatland contests
All competitors (Experts, Masters or Pros) had one run to qualify for the finals. Experts had two-minute-runs while Masters and Pros had three-minute-runs. 8 riders per class were qualified for the finals. A serious challenge as the world’s best flatlanders entered the acrobatic battlefield and presented a freestyle show “deluxe” on their small and minimalistic bikes. Technically advanced tricks, difficult combos didn’t only impress the judges but even the experienced spectators.
Flatland results
In the Pro class Akira Okamura from Japan gradually worked his way up to the top. During his runs, you can hardly speak of tricks on a bike, but more of a long flow of movements where he and his bike become one. Second place goes to Travis Collier (CAN) and Justin Miller (USA) became third. In the Expert class Manuel Ortiz (GER) hit the first place, followed by Tividar Làszló (HU) and Pal Vagra (HU).
Side event: Braun Style Combo
On Friday evening the audience experienced an extraordinary flatland event, the Braun Style combo. Each rider had one chance to show his best performance. When he was touching the ground – he was out! Finally it was Michael Steingraeber who met with success after showing fluid and breathtaking run.

28/06 What do you get up to in the off-season?
It's winter here in Australia. While a select few Aussie riders are making their final preparations for the upcoming UCI World Championships in the Netherlands, the rest of us pretty much go into hibernation. That's not to say that life stops in the off-season, there are a number of smaller events throughout the winter months and the occasional larger races. What is difficult is maintaining the same level of fitness and training as during the warmer months. People cope with the winter differently, taking up other sports, spending more time in the gym or just taking a few months off to chill out on the weekends and catch up on their social lives.
I'm interested in finding out exactly what BMXUltra.com readers do during the off-season. Send a short email to webmaster@bmxultra.com over the next week and I'll compile a difinitive list of what people do in the off-season.

26/06 SUPERCROSS Riders Crush the ROCK!!
Todd ParryFor all of those of you in the know, you know that the ABA Rockford race is a must be at event! It combines the start of summer, a perfectly groomed track and a Vintagebmx.com BMX museum and banquet all in one. This year was going to be an extra special year as it was the place of the first ever Vintagebmx.com 30+ BS stops here race where any rider 30 and over was able to compete for no points, no money, just bragging rights!! It has been a long running feud on Vintagebmx.com about who the best rider 30+ was regardless of class and friday night at the Rock the showdown took place!!
This was the start of a great weekend! ANd of course who took the trophy and the BS crown home? None other than Factory Supercross rider Todd "TP" Parry! He beat out some of the worlds best riders to take home the crown and the one of a kind award! Not to be out done by Todds friday night victory Ken Pliska took a first in his 36-40 cruiser class just to show the world he was going to do his part to keep the Supercross' at the front of the pack. After a tremendous build up like that it is hard to follow up with the regular weekends racing, but the Supercross riders kept it moving, Todd TP Parry podium both days with a 2nd and a 3rd in Vet Pro, Rachel BlackwellAirelle Martin took her custom Candy Purple Supercross UL to seconds both days in Girl Pro and Jamie Lilly took her Supercross EVO to a podium finish on sunday with a third before heading out to coach the BMXmania.com summer camp. And not to be out done by the Pro's hometown girl Rachael Blackwell decided that she had best show everyone what she has got and DOUBLED in 17 girls for the weekend winning both days!! TP said that Rachael looked better than some of the girl pros and she did this with a broken hand fresh from Atlanta the weekend before!!! Ken proved himself Mr. Consistency by making all 4 of his mains as usual and Mighty Moe Tillmon kept blowing himself up in the mains, but made both of his cruiser mains for the weekend!!

The Supercross Factory Team consists of AA Pro Jan "The Viking" Baltzersen, AA Pro Henrik "Little Viking" Baltzersen, A Pro Randy Roberts, A Pro Nate Ramos, A Pro Bryan Otten, Vet Pro Todd Parry, Vet Pro Turnell Henry, Girl Pro and Current UCI World Champion Samantha Cools, 36x Ken Pliska, 36X Stan Horton, 28x Moses Tillman, 17-18x Justin Dodson, 17G Rachael Blackwell, 13x Aaron Maxwell, 12X Thomas Richards, 7x Justin Myers

24/06 Mount Gambier report part 3
With the Country Championships held on Saturday, the South Australia Vs Victoria challenge was held over the following 2 days, Sunday and Monday, making full use of the Queen's Birthday long weekend. I think 6 qualifying motos is a bit of an over kill. The club and the local area would benefit more with one day for the SA V Vic meeting, the Sunday. They could keep Monday as a rain day, the extra day would allow people to get out and about in Mount Gambier to check out the local wineries, the blue lakes, the caves, sandboarding and other offerings. Injecting a little money into the town and helping the club prove it's worth to potential sponsors. That said the meeting would be better supported if it didn't clash with a major event on the East Coast and was held during the warmer and dryer months.
There were only 4 gates of pro for Sunday/Monday apparently the South Australian BMX Association aren't as lenient as the Mount Gambier BMX Club and wouldn't accept late entries , well not without doubling the entry fee. If it's a pro class the money just goes into the prize pool, I will never understand why the entry fee would have to be doubled. Almost all of the riders in the pro class had to pay their own way to the racing, accomodation and entry fees and as a lot of them are still students they live week to week. It was a harsh decision by the association which reflects poorly on the organisation and could effect how people decide if they will bother to support the meeting in the future.
In the final Mike Fenwick chose lane 8 again and was off to a flying start. Local Nick Brooks made the final again, but Richard Barker got a little sideway out of the gate and shut Nick down early. In the first corner Fenwick had established a good lead, Kirkham was behind him for second and Luke Pretlove in third, Barker tried to take the high line around Pretlove but the collided and Barker lost momentum, sending him to the back of the field. Aaron Lumsden finished in fourth, and Richard Barker fifth just ahead of Simon Anderson.
That's it for the Mount Gambier report.

24/06 Lifestyle: Beastie Boys new album released
Beastie Boys - To the 5 Boroughs
It's been a little while since I have delved into the "lifestyle" side of things, telling you about music, movies and games. The release of the new Beastie Boys album To The 5 Boroughs is a great way to it bring back, especially as things are a little quiet news wise. The album should be in all good record stores now. We will see if we can organise some kind of giveaway with EMI records, in the mean time try the links below and keep your eyes on BMXUltra.com over the next week or so.

24/06 Factory Avent/Bombshell rocks Rockford, Jason Rogers turns pro
Rockford, Illinois – Factory Avent / Bombshell rolled into Rockford hot off a huge Factory win in Bakersfield and looked to edge closer to the Factory points lead. The team scored well both days and made it two wins in a row with an impressive 247 on Saturday to dominate the other Factories. They came in second to Answer by only three points on Sunday despite crashes by Mike Lundy and Mike Moeller. The team moved past Redman - Yamaha Waverunner and sits solidly in second place just 28 points behind Answer.

An even bigger story, however, was the team’s 18 Expert, Jason Rogers, turning pro and sweeping A Pro both days. “Jason has been wanting to turn pro for so long, I couldn’t hold him back any longer,” stated team manager Will Rells. “We’ve had plenty of amateur wins on our Morpheus frame and it’s about time we had a pro winning on it too.” Looks like it may have been the right decision as Jason swept A Pro both days. Rogers had been suffering from back problems for most of the season and nearly required back surgery. He decided to see a renowned Dallas-area specialist and together they decided to hold off on surgery and start intensive physical therapy to strengthen the supporting muscles along his spine. “This is the hardest I’ve ever worked to prepare for a race,” stated Rogers. “I did everything I could and now it’s paying off.” Apparently the method worked as Jason was up to full strength without any complications for the weekend. Despite stiff competition from Matt Beatty, George Andrews, and Dusty Armstrong, Rogers was on fire, finishing first in all rounds but two.

The rest of the team was on fire. AA Pro “dR” Donny Robinson, in his first race back after breaking his collarbone in May, pulled down Sunday’s Pro Cruiser win. Jacob Abbe nabbed himself a double for the weekend in the ultra-tough 7 Expert class. Lahsaan Kobza grabbed a bunch of seconds to BoBo Lechner, but beat the former National #1 Amateur in Saturday’s cruiser main with a sweet move in the first turn. 13 Girl Alise Post pulled in a nice double in Class and Open on Saturday and an 11-13 Girl’s Cruiser win on Sunday. 10 Expert Chad Kerley was in the mix finishing on the podium in all his mains. 12 Expert Tory Nyhaug finished top four all weekend in Class, Cruiser and Open. 14 Expert Dustin Vogler had some bad luck and finished with a 3rd in Cruiser. Joey Bradford jumped his way to two seconds in 14 Expert and two wins in 14 Cruiser. Mikey Moeller pulled in a hard fought win in 16 Expert on Saturday. Mike Lundy rocked the pit bike race on Friday night, clearing the first straight triples on the little bike, then came back and tripled on Saturday. Eric Elliott grabbed Saturday’s 31-35 Cruiser win and TJ Johnson won 28-35 Expert on Sunday.

Be sure to check out the team on tour at the NBL Stars and Stripes National at the legendary South Park track in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania then the NBL Waterford Oaks National in Pontiac, Michigan the very next weekend.

23/06 Mount Gambier report part 2
Day 1, known as the Australian Country Championships, attracted 5 gates of men and 2 of women for the pro classes, given that the top 16 were going to get a share of the money it was no surprise. A lot of the regular pro riders were competing at Tamworth, a few hours drive north of Sydney, for a UCI race on the same weekend, which was a shame, it would have been nice to see the big guns getting in the mix of things. Both fields consisted mostly of South Australian riders, there was a distinct lack of Victorian riders in all classes come to think of it.
In the womens pro final one of the stand out riders was local and 30 + class rider Louise Tye, she would have been twice the age as most of the other riders in her class, but yet she was consistant in her heats and looked like she was a good chance to take the win in the final.
When the gate dropped Susan Kirkham got the holeshot and jumped to the early lead Sally Thomas and Angela Wooding were close battling for second and third, the rest of the field were bunched up. When the girls hit the half way point Wooding worked her way to the outside of the last straight and powered past Kirkham with apparent ease, but she over cooked it in the very next corner going over the bars and hitting the ground hard. Kirkham took the win with Thoman in Second, Naomi Herreen in Third and Louise Tye in fourth.
In the mens class Richard Barker did it the hard way, he had to go through a run off for a semi finals birth then through the semi for the final. Michael Fenwick is on fire. He totally blitzed anyone he raced, look out world championships, this man is on a mission. Local Nick Brooks was very consistant throughout qualifying and looked like he could cause a stir in the final.
When the gate dropped Mike Fenwick came out of lane one and was in a confortable lead by the first jump, Brian Kirkham jumped into second, Johnathan Hoare had moved into third with Richard Barker all over his tail. There was a bit of a mix up at the rear of the field in the second corner when two riders went down, it was David Phillips and Luke Pretlove. Fenwick and Kirkham were clear in first and second, and Hoare had third all wrapped up until he over jumped the small doubles in the back straight, he lost momentum and Barker took full advantage using his speed through the last corners to come through and take third, Wellman tried to push Hoare over the last corner but came off second best.

22/06 Mount Gambier report part 1
Mount Gambier is always a good weekend away, but given that it's on the same weekend as the official opening of the snow skiing season you would be kidding yourself to expect good weather.
One thing is for sure the track holds up to it, while it is raining the surface can be a little slippery, but it doesn't take long for the water to run off and absorb into the track. The heaviest rains were during the nights and on the final day of racing, when we arrived at the track on Monday there was a pump ready to pump the water out of the middle of the track, right into the BMXUltra.com tent! We were told that they have never had to pump their track before, and I'm glad that I was there to observe and redirect the water around what would have been the BMXUltra.com swamp.
There were some track changes since last year the biggest being the new doubles at the end of the first straight. They were quite long and had a strange lip but were jumpable even in the wet. The second corner was also made bigger and wider for that matter, opening it up and reducing the number of crashes.
This Vet Pro Cruiser report was written by Brett MaliC (no the capital C is not a mistake, that's how Brett told us it was spelt)
It was a top final at Mount Gambier where some of Victoria's and South Australia's best 30 + year old riders went head to head for the first time since the national championships and there were some scores to settle. David Comport left before the finals were run, sick of the rain and mud and leaving a lane wide open on the gate.
Raymond Ross, Shane Jenkins and Brett MaliC were about even at the first bump, then Jenkins pulled ahead by a half wheel at the big doubles. MaliC was on Jenkins' rear into the first corner and into the second straight, thats when everyone heard the thump. It was Raymond Ross hitting the deck!!!
Raymond said he pulled a clip on the doubles, and Oberti T-Boned him into the first berm. MeliC was lining Jenkins up for a bit of a tap on the second berm, but thought better of it.
MaliC was right on Jenkins for most of the race, until he pulled away on that back straight. Then to rub salt into the wound Victorian Dean Coles passed MaliC like a bullet. "He's a freak on those back straights!!!" said MaliC "...I got him on the the second last berm as he was hugging it tight, I took it wide and ducked under him. I must say...that's a move Madill would pull out of his hat, it was well planned, nicely set-up and famously executed, if you don't mind me saying. I must admit I think I will have to train harder, so you Victorian's can see my dust next time!!!"

16/06 Redline Victoria race report
Mount Gambier held the Australian Country Championships and Vic vs SA challenge over the weekend. Luke Pretlove and Adam Robb were there to contend with the Pro Open (14+ Money Class). The weather was typical of Mount Gambier, rain, rain and lots more rain, 2 inches on Sunday night alone. The track held up very well though thanks to the helpers at the club.

There were 3 motos, semis and then the final for the Pro Open at Saturday's Country Championships.

Adam didn't make it out of the qualifying heats, Luke qualified 3rd and finished 2nd in his semi behind Mike Fenwick.

In the Final Luke went a little early and hit the gate, while trying to make up ground through the second turn Luke's pedal came right off its axle causing him to crash and finish 8th for the day.
It's lucky that Luke didn’t do himself any damage when the pedal came off.

Sunday kicked off the SA Vs Vic Challenge with 4 motos and 2 motos, semis then finals on Monday.

Luke once again qualified for the semis in fine form finishing no worse than 2nd in the motos while Adam qualified 10th.

The gate dropped in the semi and Luke was away to a flying start while Adam was caught sleeping on the gate, Luke finished 2nd with Adam 7th.

Consolation final: Adam came from lane 1 and slotted into 2nd in the first turn then chasing down the rider in front to pass him on the fourth straight and hold the lead to finish 9th for the day.

Final: Luke came from Lane 1 also strong down the first straight, slotting into 3rd through the first turn, Luke broke away from the pack but Fenwick and Brian Kirkham had to much of a lead by this stage leaving Luke with a strong 3rd for the day.

Next week Adam and Josh Callan will be off to Lilydale for another round of Metro Plate regional while Craig Walczuk gets back to the roots of the sport and attends a club event at Bellarine.

16/06 BMXPros.com race report
ABA Dixieland National & 4X World Cup #2 Les Deux Alpes, France
A weekend full of all types of racing went down this over June 11-13th. First, right here in the good old USA, the ABA ran round #12 of the 2004 Pro Series in Atlanta, GA. Randy Stumpfhauser was the sole AA Marketing rider in attendance, but he did a lot of damage in the Pro class. On the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, in Les Deux Alpes, France, Wade Bootes and Dale Holmes took on the worlds top Mountain Bike racers at the 2nd stop of the 2004 UCI World Cup tour. Both guy were on their A game and whether it was BMX or MTB racing this weekend, Double A Marketing riders were winners and stood atop the Pro Podium!

ABA Dixieland Nationals- Atlanta, GA
Randy Stumpfhauser took a liking to the East Coast track in Atlanta, GA this weekend, as he won 3 out of the 4 Pro events he entered. Currently siting in the #2 spot in the 2004 ABA Pro title points chase, a 1st and 2nd in the AA Pro races this weekend defiantly help him gain points and momentum towards his first ABA #1 AA Pro title. Randy also won Pro Open both days, dominating the Pro class at the ABA Dixieland Nationals. Look for Randy to hit the track again in 2 weeks at the next NBL Pro Series event in Southpark, PA. Randy's sponsors include GT Bicycles, Hyundai, Smith Eyewear, Fox Racing, IRC, Shimano, Sun Ringle, AC, ODI, Thomson Seat Posts, S & M, OGIO, Cytosport, Marwi Spokes, Bombshell, SDG, Powerbar, BMXpros.com,

UCI 4X World Cup Les Deux Alpes, France
Wade Bootes has had a great start to the 2004 MTB season with a win at the Norba #1 Mountain Cross in Sonoma, CA just over a month ago and now a huge win at the UCI World Cup #2 in the 4X finial. Wade was plagued with injuries last season, but so far he has show that he is 110% improved and looking to take home a lot of wins in 2004. Wade's sponsors include Trek, Volkswagen, O'Neal, Oakley, IRC, JBL, Powerbar, ATI, O'Neal, ToolShed, Globe Health Club, Marwi Spokes, WadeBootes.com, BMXpros.com

Dale Holmes has been one of the top AA pro's to take on the mountain bike seen in the last 2 years and the way Dale rode this weekend, it looks like there is another BMX star on the MTB circuit. Dale easily transferred from each round up to the semi finial, where a slight bobble kept him out of the main event, but he finished 5th, as he was the winner of the small final. Dale's sponsors include Free Agent, KHS, O'Neal, Kenda, Smith, Shimano, Fox Shox, Sun Ringle, Marwi Spokes, Profile, Cytosport, Azonic, ODI, Powerbar, BMXpros.com, DALEHOLMES.COM

BMXPros.com proudly represents Cristian Becerine, Kyle Bennett, Wade Bootes, Dale Holmes, Christophe Leveque, Brandon Meadows, John Parker, Jamie Staff, and Randy Stumpfhauser. 15/06 Response to Vet Pro at QLD Titles (20 inch)
From: Billy Ray Dixon

"Could this mean another comeback for other old-school riders like Duane Prasser, Steve Mcdonald, Terry Langfeldt, and maybe even Billy Ray himself?
Anyone got Paul Addams's phone number...if HE came back for a Vet Pro title, I'd be mighty keen to try to avenge some old defeats....just gotta lose the extra 30kilos I've packed on since my salad days...I could commission Sparkles Dwight as my personal coach...
Does Powerlite still have a team?"

11/06 ABA Factory Team Report Volume 4
Bakersfield, California - All the major Factory players descended on Metro BMX in Bakersfield, California for the fifth stop on the ABA's "A" national tour. The Mulhause's really outdid themselves in getting the facility ready for a great race. The action was hot and heavy with only 75 points separating first and third place. Redman / Yamaha Waverunner pulled in their 11th and 12th scores in Utah but didn't quite have enough to take the lead from Factory Answer but just enough to bump Factory Avent / Bombshell down to third. This is the closest battle in years and it looks like the title is going to come down to who can kick butt at the Grands. Phantom / On Trac pulled in for fourth and Factory Redline rounded out the top five.

HIGHLIGHTS - Factory Answer's Mikey Brabant had a great weekend with a double on Saturday. Mikey was winning class again on Sunday when he was pimped by the "other" Mikey, Factory Avent / Bombshell's Mikey Moeller, in the second turn. Moeller went on to take the win.....The word is out on the "rivalry" between Avent / Bombshell's Moeller and On Trac's Sergio Pena as can be seen in the latest issue of the BMX'er. Tom and Jerry?.....Redline's Alyssa Kimura raked in a win in cruiser.....Redman - Yamaha Waverunner had their porta cooler out to keep their pit area nice and cool. How "Factory" can you get?.....Challenge's National #1 Amateur and BMX'er coverboy Josh Oie had his hands full with Answer's Andrew Mayfield. On Saturday, Josh was leading the Bakersfield local into the last turn when he slid out and took Mayfield with him. Josh went on to double on Sunday.....Auburn's LeAndre Parker has been threatening to break out and nabbed himself a 13-14 open victory.....It was the Jeff and Joey show again in 14 expert, which had the largest rider count of the race with 41 riders on Saturday and 39 on Sunday. Redman Yamaha Waverunner's Jeff Pease and Avent / Bombshell's Joey Bradford swapped wins on Saturday and Sunday. Bradford went down in semi's on Saturday and Pease was suffering from what may have been a broken ankle on Sunday but still had enough to finish second. Bradford doubled in cruiser. With the win on Saturday, Pease moved into the National #1 Amateur position. Bradford's back there tied for third with Avent / Bombshell's Mike Lundy and Redline's Logan Owen.....Redman - Yamaha Waverunner's little man Jerek Rosales schooled 8 Expert and 7-8 Open with a huge double-double.....Factory Answer's BoBo Lechner had another tough weekend. For him that means only a couple of wins in class and open.....Looks like Redman's newest rider Justin Dickmeyer swapped jerseys and bikes with Vance Weisendanger, the newest member of the On Trac team. Dickmeyer pulled in a 19-27 Expert win on Saturday and got blasted by Trevor Cummings in Sunday's semi.....Factory Answer rider Danny Caluag's double-double seems like the first time in forever we have heard Danny's name.....Avent / Bombshell's Alise "The Beast" Post pulled in yet another double-double, although the last one seems like a while ago.....On Trac picked up 12 Expert superstud Elliot McGrath. Not a bad weekend for "The Big Guy" - wins in 12 cruiser and 11-12 Open.....Avent / Bombshell's Chad Kerley has slowly but surely worked his way to the top of the pack in 10 Expert. Wins in three out of four mains in class and open.....On Trac's girls were on fire with double-doubles from 10 Girl Taylor Wolcott and 12 Girl Shelbi Long.....Avent / Bombshell's 12 Expert Lahsaan Kobza pulled in two wins in class and cruiser.....Pro Concept's 17 Girl Courtney Tomei continued to be consistent with a class double and a cruiser win.

Challenge's Josh Oie nearly double doubled and Stephanie Higgins pulled out a cruiser win on Saturday. Pro Concept's Courtney Tomei continued to be consistent with three out of four wins and Cameron Lofgren kicked some butt with a couple of wins in 13 Expert and 13 Cruiser.
After Bakersfield, the Factory Team race is closer than ever with the top three teams . Factory Answer is still out front of second -place Redman - Yamaha Waverunner by 16 points. Factory Avent / Bombshell sits in the third spot just 52 points out of the lead. Phantom / On Trac dropped back to fourth with Factory Redline close behind.

10/06 Vet Pro at QLD Titles (20 inch)
This just in from a friend of ours, Ian Maclachlan (macca) of Queensland
Just wanted to update everyone on the vet pro situation in Queensland. An application was sent to BMX Qld to propose to have a veteran pro class at this years state age championships in Mackay. I am happy to announce that the proposal was accepted and vet pro class will be part of the program this year. We are hoping to get 2 to 3 gates of old school riders to the championships. I know at the Nerang BMX Club there is sometimes 6 or 7 thirty plus riders at gate starts on a Wednesday night. Mitch Donnelly, Ian Maclachlan, Chris Tait, Dave Woolard, Deano, Smilee, Fluff are a few of the names getting around down at Nerang which makes for some pretty competitive training. Scott Petie is also on the bike as well as a lot guys who i see around the Qld scene that are 30 plus and i apologize that i do not know all there names. The last time i saw Scott Petie on the track was at Logan City in the 80's and he and Robbie McCewan were factory Malvern Star riders. I hope there are quite a few country, north and far north riders who will see this and be interested in entering. All the boys spoken to agree that having the time to race all year round is impossible with family and work commitments. I guess what needs to happen is to have an official calendar of Vet Pro classes so as the mature riders can pick and choose there events for the year ahead. This year has September hosting the QLD State Age Championships at Mackay, in November the Pan Pacific Masters Games are being held on the Gold Coast. BMX is included in these games and are open to riders 30 years and over (or could be over 30's). Nerang BMX Club is hosting the BMX portion of the games. This event could be lame if there are only small numbers entered. I believe its what you make it, lets get the riders there and make it competitive. I know a lot of the Nerang boys are going to enter, it would be good to see other states veteran riders travel to the event as well. We will be pitching to Nerang BMX Club to add a Vet Pro Class to the program at the Nerang meet in January. This event could be huge in January, already riders travel to this meet so we hope to capture as many 30 plus riders to this meet as possible. I will keep you posted on this one as it has not been pitched yet.

Info regarding Vet Pro at State Age Championships - It is classed as a special event so the guidelines to date are like this, the Vet Pro Class will be only open to riders who hold a current license and who are 30 years or older at the time of the championships. It is the only event i think that is open to all states, so any riders out there that may be in QLD in September, come race the first Vet Pro meet and fill the field up. Prize money is $300 plus half of nomination money less levy. (noms are $70-$75 i think). Vet Pro riders are still able to ride there age class as well as cruiser classes.

Check your information flyers regarding the rest of the details or change of details. I hope that the class is well supported and that it may interest the old schooler out there that was thinking of dusting off the bike. The current over 30's do train but nothing compared to the upcoming A Pro or AA Pro. So be rest assured that although hopefully a competitive class, most of the boys are on the gate for some regular exercise, to catch up with people we have not seen in years and maybe get the that old competitive feeling back again that really never goes away.

Information regarding State Championships contact BMX Queensland, info regarding Pan Pacific Masters Games contact Mick Hattan from the Nerang BMX Club.

09/06 GT BMX with gears?
We heard a rumour that GT Bicycles have a 2005 Ultrabox prototype that has a built in derailleur hanger. Gears aren't new to BMX, there was a short lived fad in the late 90's when Profile came up with a 3-speed hub, but the Ultrabox can fit a 9-speed hub. You'll never have to take your wheel off to change gears again. What does concern me is that BMX bikes will start to look more like MTBs as you'll need a roller setup on the front chain ring to make sure the chain stays on, and those things are very noisy.
In other GT news, GT Australia have just put on a MTB team for 2004/2005, it seems that things are growing for GT in Oz.

08/06 Redline Victoria race report
This week it was off to Frankston for the Redline Victoria team to a round of Metro Plate regional series. The track has just been resurfaced and there were a few changes, although the track was looking good it was a bit soft in some parts and luckily there was no rain for the day.

World Champion Josh Callan and 30+ rider Craig "Wally" Walczuk raced the 19+ Expert class. In the final Wally got away well, slipping into 3rd in the first turn with young Josh sitting in behind him for 4th. Josh pressured Wally most of the way around the track before slipping past him before the last turn to finish 3rd for the day with Wally close behind finishing 4th.

Josh also raced his Flight Series cruiser in the 19+ Cruiser class and was doing extremely well sitting in 3rd in the final before leaving the gate wide open to be put over the last turn, leaving Josh with 8th in the cruiser for the day.

Adam Robb had 3 gates of Pro Open Class to contend with, he transferred through to the final. Adam came from the outside but just didn’t have the legs and finished 8th for the day. BMXUltra.com's Jonathan Hoare took the win.

Bad news for Ziggy Callan, in her crash at Lilydale last week she managed to break her shoulder. The good news from the doctor is that it should only take 3 weeks to heal, leaving Ziggy with another 3 weeks to train for the World Championships.

Next week Luke Pretlove and Adam Robb will be hitting up the Pro class at Mount Gambier while Craig ‘Wally’ Walczuk and the Callan family take a bit of a break.

Redline Victoria are proudly sponsored by: Total BMX, Dirt Designs, BMXUltra.com and Dragon Optical.

08/06 Frankston Metro Plate regional results
The results are in from the Metro Plate regional race held at Frankston on Sunday, and the series point so far which include the Frankston round. Follow the links below or check out the calendar for results from other events.

07/06 Winter blues
While the summer season is in full swing in the Northern Hemisphere those in the Southern Hemisphere aren't so well off. Unlike the US and Europe, indoor racing is extremely rare in Australia making the winter a gloomy one for most. There are some large race meetings that will attract good attendances to like Penrith, Tamworth and Mt Gambier, but not without a strong chance of rain. Then there are the more local week to week races which, in Victoria, are strung together into a regional championship series. Given they are during winter and drawn out over nearly half the year there is little to no incentive to follow the series. Many older riders just pick and choose the events they attend, so you won't always see the best riders competing against each other each week. However there are the handful of riders who have no choice but to use those races for preparation for the biggest race meeting on the UCI calendar, the UCI world championships. It hardly seems fair on the riders and is very surprising that Australia and New Zealand are capable of producing world champions.
Will this ever change? Is there a solution? I wouldn't expect a change any time soon, the only solution I can see that will bring all of Australia's best riders out during winter is a national winter series with rounds in 3 or 4 states. All the events should be indoor, I'm not talking expensive entertainment centres but indoor equestrian centres. You will be surprised by the number of indoor arenas that will fit a BMX track. I can't tell you how important such preparation will be for Australia's elite in lead up to world championships and the 2008 olympics.

04/06 Sneak peak: New Dirt plates
Craig from Dirt Designs has been off his bike with an injury for a couple of weeks now, which has freed up his time to complete the new Dirt plate design he has been developing. Below is a sneak peak of the two different plates, on the left is the 3 colour print pro plate and on the right the 2 colour print mini design (click each number plate to see a larger image).
The 3 colour plates will be available in the following colour combinations:
black/silver/blue, black/yellow/blue, black/silver/red, black/yellow/red, blue/silver/red and blue/yellow/red. Custom colour combos will also be available on request for teams, etc.
The plates will be a similar price to the current design. The release date is not known at this stage.

03/06 Flint baby
We'd like to congratulate former dual Victorian State Champion and Australian Championship finalist Wayne Flint for adding "father" to his list of accomplishments. Wayne and his wife Belinda have recently had their first child. A healthy baby boy, Kyle Thomas, was 7lb 9oz when he was born on Tuesday, May 18. Mother and baby are doing well.

02/06 Definitive BMX movie list growing
You may have read here last week that we're trying to come up with a definitive list of movies (and now including TV shows) that include BMX. The list is growing slowly thanks to our readers, but if you can think of any that we don't have listed just email us at webmaster@bmxultra.com.

The list so far:

02/06 2005 Australian Championships in Cairns
It was finally announced that the 2005 Australian Championships would be held in Cairns over the Easter weekend. Cairns is a fun city that has a lot to offer it's visitors, the white water rafting on the Tully river being a personal favourite of mine, it's an experience not to be missed. Unfortunatly due to the increasing entry fee costs and lack of respect for the riders in the sport I think that BMXA will be quite shocked with low attendances. I think I'd rather save my money and head to the ABA World Championships or the Grands next year, but that's just me. I hope for the Cairns BMX Club and those attending next year, that the event will be an improvement on the past few years. Good luck to all involved.

01/06 Lilydale Metro Plate regional results
The results are in from the Metro Plate regional race held at Lilydale on Sunday, and the series point so far which include the Lilydale round. Follow the links below or check out the calendar for results from other events.

The Eastern region trialled transponders for timing the Pro open. The race timing mechanism was integrated with the SmartStart gate start mechanism and the BEM race scoring program. The results have been posted at www.mylaps.com. From all reports, the system worked without a hiccup. The normal finish line judges were also used and further trials of the transponders will be conducted before any changes to line judging are made. [Editor note: Transponders should take a lower priority than promoting the sport at a regional level, but that's just my opinion.]

01/06 Redline Victoria race report
It has been a while since Redline Victoria has produced a team report but we couldn’t have picked a better time to bring it on back.
There were 3 regional race meetings held in Victoria on the weekend, 2 rounds of War of the Stars, Portland on Saturday and Warrnambool on Sunday and 1 round of Metro Plate held at Lilydale.
Luke Pretlove made the trip down to Portland for the Saturday afternoon race and only had a gate of 6 to compete with. Luke had no problems taking the winners cheque after the 5 long moto’s.
On Sunday Luke had the home track advantage at Warrnambool and had a few more to contend with. There were two gates of riders including Luke's team mate, Craig "Wally" Walczuk, back on the bike for the first time since breaking he’s finger at the ACT Championships back in March.
The gate dropped in the final and it was Luke Pretlove taking the early lead with Wally close behind but there was no catching team Redline with Luke taking the WIN with Craig Wally Walczuk taking 2nd.
Adam Robb along with Josh and Ziggy Callan headed out to Lilydale for there round of Metro Plate. Ziggy was doing well racing the boys in 19+ men until one of the older riders fell on her, that ended Ziggy’s day as it was a pretty heavy fall. That didn’t stop Josh powering he’s way to the final of the 19+men. Josh rode a strong race to finish second, not to bad at all against the older guys, the 14+money boys will have to watch themselves.
Adam was back on the bike for his first race since the Nationals and was looking strong with two 2nds then he missed the gate in the 3rd moto leaving him with 4th spot and a run off to get into the main, 4 riders, 3 spots to the main. Adam finished 2nd to secure a finals birth. The gate dropped in the final and it was another slow start for Adam but he fought his way back to 4th through the first turn and then it all happened, the second turn was very slippery due to a little bit of drizzle, 1st and 3rd go down leaving Adam in 2nd spot, passing Simon Grigg before the last corner Adam took the win.
Next week Adam Robb and the Callans will be at Frankston while Luke Pretlove will be over in Mt Gambier for a coaching clinic.
