I have been riding flat pedals for a looong time now, a few years
ago I rode with clips, for a while, maybe 2-3 years, then I simply
got tired of clips and changing between clips and flat pedals
everytime I went racing, trails, parks, etc. Then I thought, man
I miss the old school thing and racing with flat pedals. So I
hung up the clips and went back to flat pedals because I love
racing on flats and that's what bmx is all about right? Having
fun. So I've decided to stick with flats for life!
I have tried many different flat pedals since I started riding,
then about 7 or 8 years ago, I found what I like the best, Wellgo
screw pegs they are smilar to DK and Sun Ringle pedals. I didn't
have any problem using them with any type of shoe. It is the best
gripping pedal that I have come across. Some day I would like
to try some Mag pedals and see what the real difference is between
regular alloy and magnesium.
I wear many different brands of skate shoes and don't have any
problems for alround use when riding trails, parks and racing.
But the shoes that I like the best is Orchid bmx shoes (teem -
pictured above) and Vans because I found them both to have the
best grip ever when using flat pedals!!!

Hi there, I just thought I would try to help with the pedal/shoe
combo discussion. I was like everyone back in the day, and ran
Shimano DX pedals. It didn't matter what shoes you had, they had
unreal grip & lasted for ages. Later on I got some SR bear-traps
and ran some cages that where built by Rod Scoles which where
super sharp & strong, but your foot never slipped (I was too
scared to slip, those things were sharp as razors). I ran Vans
with these pedals and they chewed the crap out of them but as
Vans where hard to get you wore them untill they died. I'm now
running Atom-Lab trail kings which are awesome (I've had them
for a few years) they where recomended to me by Dave Comport.
They are strong, light and look great and I haven't had to change
any of the pins. I use Vans waffle sole and get about the same
wear rate as you do. I hope this helps. It's a shame some kids
won't have the chance to try diffrent combo's as the are all too
quick to clip in these days, which takes away the fun factor.

Well, our ANZAC Day with the mini MX riders will be one that we
will never forget. Just under 2000 spectators and 120 riders showed
up. It was massive. Thanks A Million to Cameron Murray (and his
boys) Greg Siinmaa and Graham Anderson for working all day on
the berms. We worked our butts off and the outcome was thousands
of dollars towards upgrades and New items. We had many inquiries
to join BMX, some of whom came tonight, to gate practice, to sign
up. Fuel TV was there not to mention many magazines etc. The guys
from Southside Promotions did an awesome job and we were well
looked after financially as well as publicity. The guys said there
was nothing but positive feedback from all spectators and riders.
Also our lights are up and working and not a shadow cast anywhere on the track ( it's quite amazing) the guy that designed and erected the UFO looking light system designed the one at Daytona raceway.
P.S The time difference between our 10 year old rider and there intermediate riders was 10 seconds (BMX being faster).
BMXAustralia press release
As the sport of BMX prepares to enter the Olympic arena in Beijing,
Australian riders are gearing up for selection. Competition in
Australia is hotting up with riders wanting to make history and
take out the first ever BMX Olympic Gold Medal and according to
High Performance Coach, Sean Dwight this year’s National
Championships in Adelaide will be the most competitive for many
years.
“The numbers have increased and the quality has stepped up,” Dwight said. “Last year there were two or three standout guys. Now the quality is up 20 to 30%. All riders are going to have to be on their game.”
This year’s titles will be held in Adelaide as part of a 4 day program starting on 4th May. Over 4 000 tonnes of dirt will be dumped inside the Jubilee Pavilion at Adelaide’s Royal Showgrounds. “Being an indoor course will mean it will be more compact so it will create closer racing,” stated Dwight.
Taking out a title this year will not be an easy task with only eight riders lining up for the National Championship final race on Saturday. “There are at least 5 or 6 guys who could win. In the finals it could come down to lane choices. A little bit of luck will be needed,” Dwight suggests.
Selectors will be on the sideline in Adelaide to help decide on the final team for the World Championship to be held in Brazil in late July. “There are 3 races (at the Nationals) and I’m looking for consistency when picking the team,” said Dwight.
“From a coaching point of view it’s exciting what’s happening in the sport at the moment,” Dwight said.
Elite riders will be out to secure themselves more UCI points on Friday evening when the eighth of ten rounds in total gets underway. According to 16 times National Champion and State Coach for Victoria, Anthony Harvey from Geelong, it is the World Championships and the Olympics that is attracting most of the riders’ attention. “I’ll just treat it as another race,” admitted Harvey after a broken wrist.has just allowed him to return to racing.

You may have seen the article from last Friday
about the best shoe/pedal combo, well we've only had one response
so far, thanks James. Come on, there are more of you out there
with experience that could be shared with others. It can take
a lot of money and years of experimenting to work out the best
combo, come on it's time to share!
James Hart
My favourite shoe/pedal combo back when I used to race was Shimano
DX and good old Dunlop Volleys. The sole got chewed up a bit but
never wore out completely. I always wanted Vans but back in Tassie
(Tasmania/Aus) in the early 80's they just weren't around. Nowadays
it is Vans with Odyssey Jim Cs.
by Shane Jenkins/bmxultra.com
Discussions are best when there are two sides to the story,
but it seems that people have been more passionate about the costs
of the Australian Championships than anything else. That is until
now. We have had 2 emails from people that are happy with the
way things are.
But first in response to Dave Tye's email. I don't believe bmxultra.com readers set out to entice riots, the problem is they are either misinformed or the just haven't been informed at all. There is a communications problem between BMXAustralia and it's riders, and has been for some time. You can make assumptions about spectator fees for indoor events, since you were at the last 2, but what of those who weren't?
Also I like having discussions on bmxultra so you guys can share thoughts, knowledge and ideas, but I think we'll drop the Aussies thing for now, this has been going on for some weeks now and it's getting a little tired, don't you think? Time to move on.
Dave Tye/Mount Gambier
In response to Jonny Barford’s email, which in part states
Aussie tracks can’t handle the rain, Johnny you must have
been in pommy-land sucking back to many warm beers for too long
mate, our S.A tracks are some of the best water repelling tracks
you will ever see .
We host our annual S.A / Vic challenge every June long weekend which is our largest meeting for the year and attracts a huge number of riders from both states and as any one will tell you it generally rains every week end and our track which has a high volcanic content stands up to the conditions perfectly, we also race at the Cove in Adelaide where again it rains all night and we race the next day with no problems as do many other S.A tracks .
To collectively criticize all Aussie tracks as not being able to stand up to wet weather is not only an ill-informed statement, but a stupid one, but as I read most of the emails on BMX ultra in an attempt to remain in touch with riders and riders parents views and opinions on the sport I find myself continuously reading non factual crap that people have written just so they can have what they think is a valid bitch and moan about the sport and about those involved in promoting and running it.
One of the latest incorrect statements that springs to mind was the criticism about riders having to pay to spectate at the nationals -------come on, that is not and has never been the case as any one who actually attended the last two nationals in Adelaide would have been aware of
It's healthy to see both positive and negative feed back on the site but when sending feed back of a negative nature let's try and throw in the odd fact every now and then so the other readers who may also be ill-informed don’t go off half cocked and feel the need to get on their soap box and have a bitch and moan about some thing that is not actually the case. We might actually be able to put some of this negative energy into helping and promoting the sport rather than having to listen to the doom and gloom crap and dribble about who ever or what ever killing the sport.
Trevor Bracken
We belong to the Townsville BMX Club in North Queensland and have
traveled to the Aussies each year since 2000. While we are not
excited about going back to Adelaide we are pleased that the event
is in doors. For us paying a little extra (a small percentage
of our overall cost) to have the event indoors is like insurance
against bad weather. We don’t have to drive the 6000 km
round trip lugging our gazebos and chairs, we can relax at the
indoor venue and enjoy the racing and be home the day after the
event.

ONE KENDA press release
The first 2 rounds of the European Championship for Junior/Elite
Men and Women were held in La Chapelle St. Mesmin.
Some of our riders just came back from the Springbreak races in the US but were in shape.
Magalie Pottier crashed in practice and had to go to hospital where she was told not to race this weekend.
Round 1
In Junior Men Edzus Treimanis from Latvia and Roy van den Berg from Holland looked good in round 1.
Edzus Treimanis took 4th and Roy took 8th.
Martijn Scherpen (NL) won followed by Liam Phillips (GB) and Moana Moo Caille (F).
In Elite Women, Blandine Cottereau from France looked fast in her first year in the team. In the main event she faught her way back to 2nd place in a sprint with Jana Horakova (CZ). Last year European Champion Laëtitia Le Corguille (F) won.
Aneta Hladikova (CZ) who is still recovering from her broken wrist will be back in Germany for round 3 and 4.
Elite Men was awesome.
Every year it seems more riders are able to win.
Arturs Matisons and Maris Strombergs, both from Latvia, had to compete with dominating riders like Thomas Allier (F), Florent Boutte (F), Thomas Hamon (F), Henrik Baltzersen (DK), Ivo Lakucs (LV).
Maris Strombergs had a bad gate in the semi and couldn’t make it into the main event.
Arturs Matisons had an incredible first straight. With a bike length ahead of the rest going into the first turn, it seemed like a job done.
But going into the 2nd turn he left a gap open and Thoman Hamon passed hime.
On the last straight Florent Boutte as well and Arturs Matisons took 3rd.
Round 2
Edzus Treimanis and Roy van den Berg seemed to be in an even better shape than the day before. With some good moves Edzus Treimanis managed to pass from 4th to 3rd place.
First place went to Moana Moo Caille and 2nd place for Roy van den Berg who just missed 1st spot.
In Elite women Blandine Cottereau managed to keep up with Laëtitia Le Corguille (F) on the first straight, however Laëtitia kept 1st position all the way, followed by Blandine Cottereau and Samantha Cools from Canada.
Elite Men was the last race of the weekend. Maris Strombergs looked impressive but got tangled up on the first straight. Arturs Matisons made it to the main and had the holeshot again. The 2nd turn and the same gap, although a little smaller this time, but good enough for Thomas Hamon to put his bike there. Arturs Matisons managed to keep him off and Thomas crashed while Arturs Matisons went too high trying to keep his balance and the front wheel went over the turn which made Arturs Matisons crash.
Pablo Guitierrez (F) finished the job and won just in front of Ivo Lakucs (LV) and Benrik Baltzersen (DK).
Next stop, round 3 and 4 in Germany

We have had a lot of discussion on bmxultra.com about what's
going wrong with our sport that we all love, and hopefully something
will come of it.
What concerns me is that we might be forgetting our grass roots.
What should happen in every sport is it should have a huge grass
roots following (club level - for the fun and social side of the
sport and skills development) and, from there, riders progress
through the various levels; regional to state to national to international
to olympics, and as they progress they reach a pinnacle where
there are fewer riders. If you would like to picture in your mind
a triangle shape that's big at the bottom and gets smaller as
it gets to the point at the top (the olympics). The smaller the
base of the triangle the smaller the triangle (I hope you are
still with me).
What I am trying to say is if we have a larger grass roots base
all the other levels of racing will grow and we will have a much
healthier number of riders in our sport. From this the natural
thing would be for other levels will grow with riders progressing
through the ranks.
One of the schemes that has been developed in Australia is a "come
and try" day, which allows clubs to run races and coaching
for new/unlicenced riders with the hope to generate more licenced
riders. Not a bad idea, but the thing that bugs me about it is
that it's only usually a once a year thing. Which means a BMXer
wanting to get into the sport really has to be in the right place
at the right time to get full advantage of the "come and
try" day.
What we really lack is promotion outside the sport. Posters in
bike shop windows, or even at the local milk bar, would have a
greater impact. And as a former club president I know that even
a regular local club race report in the local newspaper(s) can
make a big difference to numbers. Little things like this can
be both cheap and easy and well worth the effort.
One other thing that's important to growth is communications,
we need to make sure that people get all the information they
want when they want it. Strike while the iron is hot, or potentially
a prospective membership might find another way to spend their
money and occupy their time. If you don't follow up a phone call
or an email right away, should you be advertising your phone number
and email address? Maybe there's someone better for the job?
This little article was inspired by some emails that I have received
recently.
"I reckon it's all too serious now as well. I think
the tracks now are too advanced to encourage new people into the
sport. I know it's all needed for the pro's and experts but thats
about it. A few old school type tracks that don't send one to
the moon on every "bump" would be pretty cool.
thanx Peter"
and this one
"I check in to read the news on BMX Ultra every few days and see a number of criticisms of BMX Australia and just wanted to add my comments. I'm an ex-racer from back in 80-83 and looking to start up again firstly in the cruiser class. I checked the BMX Australia website for a bit of information about what I need to do before turning up at a race. The website isn't the most professional looking one I've seen and contrary to the page that says it is updated weekly, I could only find a 2005 licence application and we are now in April 2006!
I then looked around for the contact page and the only email address listed is for Andrew Nolan. ... I have contacted him twice since 6 April and still no reply. How do they expect to increase the number of participants in the sport if the governing body doesn't even reply to enquiries from potential riders? Whilst I am only a single rider, I could easily be a parent with kids who also want to get involved, thereby increasing the riders by more than one.
Regards,
James Hart"
By Johnny Barford
Following on from Jamie Bullows’ flamboyant outburst (and
well said lad). Having started racing again in Australia 12 months
ago, after a 12 year sabatcal, I have kept my opinions to myself
during this period being the new (or old) kid on the block. I
cant’t help but voice my feelings. The Aussie titles have
become, it seems, this overbearing overindulgent event with spiraling
costs to us, the riders. We seem to have lost touch of what the
sport is, that is Bicycle moto cross.
Run the nationals outdoors. We have got to ride the conditions put before us and if it rains, it rains.
If your’re all worried about getting shite up ‘t’ the eye balls, then all you do is build a purpose built track that can stand many days of rain and will still be rock hard. I hate to say it but your tracks in Australia can’t hack it in the rain, sorry guys.
Spend more money on the track itself by using less clay and 20mm of hardcore then cover with good quality surface and plenty of well placed ground drains.
Take a leaf out of the Pommies book and you will reduce costs that way.
by Mark Collin (Ex NSW Finish Line Coordinator/Ex Australia
Finish Line Pointer)
I raised this problem in 2003 when the first Aussie was in
Adelaide and parents had to pay to watch plus the unbelievable
cost of entry.
My statement then was “if nobody complains then BMXA thinks they are doing a good job”
I was contacted by the event management and told that there wasn’t a problem and to keep quiet.
My children no longer race, but we were involved for 11 years and got to world title level. I feel sorry that nothing has changed but become worse.
by
Shane Jenkins/bmxultra.com
A lot of new BMX racers spend a lot of time sorting out a
good pedal/shoe combination before they move onto clipless, there
are only a few of us that don't. I have been racing since 1981
and never moved to clipless, for me BMX racing is about having
fun, first and foremost. When I first started racing BMX I tried
all sorts of pedals until the Shimano DX platform hit the market,
but once I got my hands on them there was no turning back. It
was about a year into my racing that I bought my first pair of
Vans with a waffle sole (see image to the right). The pins that
stick up from the pedals grop perfectly into the waffle sole.
It's nearly 25 years later and I have been using Sun Ringle Zu Zu platform pedals for the last 5 or 6 years (which are very much like the old DXs - but a much better grip) and I am still wearing the same style waffle sole vans. It doesn't take long for my pedals to shred the sole of the shoe, maybe 4 months, but I never slip my pedals, it's all about knowing when to retire your shoe.
This isn't about me, what I'd like to do is find out what your favourite pedal/shoe combo is, and let us know what it is that makes it so good and how you came to that combo.

West Palm Beach, Florida – Formula Bicycle Company’s
Donny Robinson and Amanda Geving headed out to the NBL’s
Easter Classic in sunny Florida last weekend to take on the world’s
best BMX racers. Not only was it an NBL Elite Series national,
but also a UCI points race, which means the stakes were high.
Donny has been the talk of the BMX world as of late, dominating
the pro ranks, winning 3 out of 4 mains in Phoenix two weeks ago.
Amanda has been rocking lately too, with a second place finish
in Phoenix and a double in Elite Women’s at the NBL Gator
National in Jacksonville, Florida a week ago. Both Donny and Amanda
came into the Easter Classic leading their respective divisions
in both UCI and NBL points standings with dR leading all sanctions
points standings.
Saturday was awesome as dR used an awesome gate to lead wire-to-wire winning his fourth NBL national in a row and his seventh in a row overall. “Man, I tell ya,” stated dR, “I love where I’m at right now. If I could only get over being so tired, I’d be perfect.” His tiredness showed in the UCI main as dR battled with Robert deWilde but fell back to sixth. Sunday was altogether forgettable as dR fell from a safe transfer position in his semi and failed to make the main. “I won’t let it happen again,” was all he to say about that. dR’s NBL points lead remains intact, but we’ll have to see how the UCI points end up to see if he can hold onto the lead. Donny is dominating right now on his Formula Solution Pro.
Amanda has had the hot hand for the past few weeks. It showed again in West Palm, with a great win in Elite Women’s, making it three in a row for Geving. Her normal UCI Jr. Women’s class was combined with the Elite Women’s class and there she podiumed. “I feel great right lately,” stated Geving. “I think Im where I need to be.” Sunday was also forgettable for Geving, with a seventh in Elite Women’s. Geving rocks a Formula Solution Pro Minus Hybrid.

I see that BMXA have moved to clarify at least one of the
concerns being voiced by many through your web site. Their notice
about spectator entry was updated this week with the following
announcement.
THERE IS NO ADDITIONAL ENTRY FEES FOR ALL NATIONAL COMPETITORS FOR THE ENTIRE EVENT
So at least we riders who have paid to ride will get to see the rest of the racing without having to pay again. As one of those critics who have written to you I wish to acknowledge that this is at least a step in the right direction but there still needs to be many more changes made and time is running out.

Since
BSX2006, the Aussie one-one-one pro only no clips race back in
January, we have been playing around with the track to make it
faster, bigger and better for next year.
We have been building up the corners that some of Australia's fastest and best riders struggled with, two in particular that sent riders off their bikes are about a foot taller already and will only get bigger. On Easter Monday Jamie, Brandan and Ben Bullows helped test out the new lip on the doubles at the end of the first straight. (Right: Jamie Bullows jumping the first straight doubles.) We have that dialled now, and just need to get some more dirt in to finish off the face of the jump. We will be working on the first double next. You can expect riders to get a whole lot more air time at BSX2007. If you are hitting up Track Attack in 2007 you have to check this out.
BSX2007 will be another charity event, raising more money for the Royal Children's Hospital Foundation. If you are interested in becoming a partner for the event email webmaster@bmxultra.com.

I have a few things to say about BMXAustralia.
They seem to be doing absolutely nothing to help grow the sport,
instead they would rather try kill it than help, it I'll explain.
Firstly I know of a couple of families that really wanted to race
the Aussie titles but due to it being away from Easter (thus no
holidays) people were finding it hard to get time off work, and
after pleading with work they finally managed to scrounge a few
days off.
But at this time the entry closing date had passed by only a couple
of days but these families called BMXA and explained their situation
to them and asked if they could still enter. BMXA said yes they
could enter but they had to pay double the entry fee. They were
told what they could do with doubled fee and hung up.
Now I can't see the hassle with people who have legitimate reasons
and call only a few days late with entering. With BMXA trying to
double their money they have missed out on a guaranteed $110 per
rider entered.
How hard is it for whoever it is at BMXA to add a name to list
of riders??? Correct me if I'm wrong but moto sheets aren't finalised
until after sign up. That's why we have it so they know who's
there and who's not so they don't get put onto sheet.
I could go on more about this but I'm sure you all get what I'm
saying I think it's CRAP.
Secondly what's the go with charging entry fees for spectators???
Nothing at all was mentioned on entry forms informing us of this
they wait until everyone has entered then just drop it on us.
We've already entered so we have no choice, if we want to see
the racing we have to pay extra.
Which really sucks because I'm racing cruiser on Thursday and
my son is racing on Saturday so for me to see him race I have
to pay spectator entry.
We are providing the entertainment for the spectators yet we still
have to pay to watch. Do we see the AFL charging the players that
are playing in the grand final entry fee into the ground???
If BMXA can't run an indoor event with exorbitant entry fees by
not adding extra costs to help pay for it then shite, you don't
need to be a rocket scientist to work it out keep it outdoors
and help boost up an existing track and club by injecting a bit
of the money they use for the indoors and improve the designated
club to run a Aussie title.
Because the changes made to upgrade the track and environs will
stay with that club and all the riders that ride there. But the
purpose built track is bulldozed straight after the titles and
who benefits from that? Not the riders.
As riders we have no real choice but to put up with it if we want
to race and I think that really sucks. But if we want to race
against the best in Australia this is the place we have to be
plus with riders that have sponsor commitments, they have to go
to keep sponsors happy. Something needs to be done to make people
want to race or want to come watch BMX and see what our sport
is all about. Not turn people away in droves.
I'll leave it there but there is plenty more to say but I've had
my little bitch and I'm sure it will fall on deaf ears over at
BMXA. They seem to have there own little plan and don't bother
to listen to the people who actually make the sport, if it keeps
going in the same direction the sport will surely die.
I'm pissed off and not afraid to say it
Sirius Bicycles Press Release
Sirius Bicycles’ Staats team riders performed exceptionally
well at the NZ Nationals this past Easter weekend in Cambridge.
Fortunately the weather did its part & that along with a fast
track allowed for some great racing in all age classes.
World No 6, Marc Willers took out NZ 1 in the Elite Class & coupled with his 6th place finish in the UCI race further tightened his strangle-hold on the lead in the Oceanic ranking series.
World No 3, Melissa Mankowski also further extended her lead in the Junior Women’s class of the Oceanic ranking series with a win on Saturday & then she backed that up with a win the Pro Open on Sunday. Melissa has been steadily improving with each race & the 6-time world champion looks set to win another world title in Brazil.
The Staats/Dickies team took out 2nd place in the national team competition & with the addition of a few new faces to the team for next season (new riders to be announced soon) will be looking to claim the top spot.
Tim Ferguson ended up NZ 6 in Elite Men but the highlight was his 1st place finish in Elite Cruiser. Tim was fast all weekend & like Melissa is showing steady improvement. World No 2, Scott Hosking who had just recently returned after a 6 month hiatus from training & racing was nearly back to his best, taking home NZ 2 in Junior Men & 3rd in UCI. Scott hopes to be in Australia soon to begin his build up towards Brazil. Wayne Pottow showed he was a force in 16 Boys but was unlucky in his deadman final & as a result of getting caught up in a crash he walked away with a respectable 5th place. I’m sure Wayne will be on the pace again next season & charging hard. Wyatt Clinch pulled everyone all weekend! He rode two great finals & finished NZ 2 in 15 Boys & NZ 3 in 15-16 Cruiser. Wyatt has been on the pace all season & his great effort at Nationals earned him “Team Rider of the Year” honours… congratulations Wyatt. Cory Martin finally found the form that had eluded him for much of the season & he rode like the Trooper we know him to be. Cory finished NZ 6 in 12 Boys & NZ 3 in 11-12 Cruiser. Robert Blackham was out recovering from the broken foot he sustained a month earlier in Waitakere.
Kane “Mr Smooth” Barry confirmed he was the man to beat in Cambridge, as he did not drop a race on his 20” all weekend & was the top qualifier in both the 13 Boys & 13-14 Cruiser classes. However in his Cruiser final Kane crashed whilst passing for the lead & the injury he sustained would be substantial enough to keep him from riding his 20” final. Kane finished up NZ 8 in both classes but I know Kane now feels as if he has some unfinished business to attend to.
All in all it has been a great season For Staats downunder & with the Worlds just around the corner I’m anticipating great things in Brazil also.
The Staats team would like to acknowledge the support of its sponsors, without whom the successes of this season would not be possible; Staats Bicycles, Sportspro (Fox/Shift/Answer), Dickies, Horleys, & Spy Optic. The team would also like to acknowledge the support of the various BMX websites around the globe & the work of Phil Williams at Subscreen.

In
January 2006 39 pro BMX racers from all over Australia gathered
at Pheasant Creek, a small rural town just an hour north-east
of Melbourne, to race at the TotalBMX/ManageSoft Bicycle Supercross
(BSX).
BSX2006 was the first event of its kind in Australia. It was run
by riders, for riders, totally independent of any sanctioning
body, on a track that was built by riders, limited only by the
size of the block it was built on and the amount of dirt available
at the time.
The BSX was a one-on-one pro only elimination style race held
on a purpose built track that would highlight the skills and talents
of many of Australia's finest racers, including great champions
like Luke Madill, Wade Bootes, Jamie Gray, Tony Harvey, Glenn
Codega, 80's pro legend Jamie Hales and many more. It would also
give the riders a chance to let their hair down and have a little
fun, in what is otherwise becoming a very serious sport in the
lead up to its debut as a medal event at the 2008 Olympic Games
in Beijing, China. At the same time the event would provide a
great deal of entertainment for the spectators while raising money
for two great causes, primarily the Royal Children's Hospital
Foundation but also the Kinglake West branch of the Country Fire
Authority.
See all the action as it happened on the day, from practice all
the way though to the finals
captured through 3 cameras.
Music by Beaten By William and Subnormal. DVD running time 52
minutes.

As a new member of the BMX family, I would like to express my
concerns re the costs of the spectator fees for the Nationals
in Adelaide. The nomination fee is steep enough when you take
into account all the other costs involved in BMX racing. My son
is excited about racing in the Nationals for the first time and
would like to wear the appropriate state jersey, etc. All of these
things already cost families a small fortune so their kids can
ride on a weekly basis, so to add high spectator fees on top of
this makes it very difficult for many. My husband and I are already
taking alternate days off work wihtout pay just so our son can
get there - I feel especially sorry for the interstate riders
as it must be already costing their families a fortune to attend
! Family and friends have indicated they will not attend due to
the costs.I feel that if BMX is to continue as a sport for all,
NOT JUST THE ELITE, some of these costings need to be addressed.
Adam Robb/TOTAL BMX
Dear BMXUltra.com,
I have been involved with BMX Racing for the past 15 years and
have watched the sport go down hill from the moment i stepped
into it.
I believe opening the state titles is going to turn Victorian
riders away, it is called the Victorian State Titles for a reason,
I didnt want the
titles to be open last year, but I could see that there was a
very good reason behind it with the Mount Gambier BMX Club being
so close.
If BMX Victoria want to get the Victorian riders prepared for
races such as the Track Attack series and the Aussie Titles, they
should put
some effort into organising some bigger races to attract the interstate
riders during the year.
Hell, the Track Attack series onle involves the Eastern Region,
do something for Northern Rivers or the Western Region as well
that will attract
interstate riders....
SA opened there titles 2 years ago to all age classes and ran
the race in Adelaide, the year after the left the titlles open
to the money classes
only and ran the race in Mount Gambier, to me it seemed a little
backwards, but that is what they have done for South Australian
riders.
I would like to know exactly how many interstate riders raced
at the 2005 State Championships in Portland, cos to me it was
one of the best run
events I had been to in a few years in Vic with a very good amount
of riders, just under 400 from memory, so how many of that 400
were from interstate??
Could that race have been ran just as well and been just as big
without that small percentage of interstate riders??
Is this for the riders, or is this for the bank account of BMX
Victoria??
You say it would be hard to make the event affordable and break
even if only 250- riders showed up, where is all that money going??
I remember 1-8 would get a big trophy and a plate, none of that
anymore, its a medal 1-3 and plates 1-8, cut the prize money,
this event
is run for a title, no need for big money there, the entries are
double if not more than a standard open meeting, plus there is
generally
some descent money thrown in by sponsors.
So how is it hard to break even from that, when every other race
in Vic is run with much less riders and still manages to come
out even or
even on top??
The entriehave been decreased, but you open the titles up for
everyone to come and steal the titles from your own riders...
The ACT titles are open for a reason, they dont have enough riders
to run an event bigger than a clubby.
I really dont believe that BMX Victoria care for there own riders,
who cares if we only get 300 entries at our titles, atleast it
will be our titles.
Leave this one race for the victorians.....
Kind Regards
Adam
David Comport
There really is two things going on here.
1. The opening of the titles is to try and increase the rider entry count. From a business/money point of view you can't fault BMXVictoria from trying to get the numbers up to make some money or break even on the event.
2. The second, and bigger, issue is addressing why BMXV needs to open the titles to get more numbers. Point one is a reactive solution to decreasing numbers. Customers are not buying the Victorian BMX "product". In fact it would seem that they are "shopping elsewhere". Thus they should, in conjunction with point one, go back to square one and ask some "home truths" and start implementing strategies to bring back former riders and push to bring some new ones to the sport .
To be honest I haven't actually seen or know of any concerted effort on the part of the governing bodies to initiate any programs to grow the sport. It is left to the weary volunteer at club level who in most cases doesn't have the expertise to achieve the said objective.
Steve Hunter
Thanks for your reply to John Seiler of Qld asking "why
open the Victorian State Titles"; it was good to give it
a bit of historical background, such as the particular reasons
for wanting Mt Gambier riders to participate at Portland last
year.
There are more good reasons to make them Open at this time in
BMX's history in Victoria, which John Seiler as a Queenslander
will probably be totally unaware of.
First John's question " I mean how can the Victorian Titles
be called that if interstate riders are invited to come...?"
The answer to this is 'Yes of Course they can be called that"
Is the Australian Tennis Open not Australian because foreigners
compete? Is the Australian Grand Prix not Australian for the same
reason? The answer's obvious.
But what are the reasons we decided to keep the Victorian Titles
Open? As you mention, one is the low number of riders in Victoria.
The fact is, and I mean no disrespect to any of my fellow Victorian
riders here, but in a lot of classes there was no real prestige
in holding the #1V plate, because there was no real competition
for it. In a lot of classes you might hold the #1V plate but if
you went to the Nationals you were still going to get your butt
kicked.
A lot of parents might feel good about their kids holding a low
number, but in the absence of stiff competition it doesn't mean
much and the riders know it.
I currently hold the #3V plates in both Cruiser and 20",
but they don't mean half as much as the 6ACT Cruiser I won at
Melba where I had to work hard just to get through the semi-finals
because I was racing class competition from all over the place.
Again , that's no disrespect to Greg Siinmaa, the 1V rider in
both my classes. Greg's a class act by anyone's standard but there
aren't enough down here like him.
So as for John's question "Wouldn't riders from other states
rather travel for Track Attack and BSX series and leave State
titles for home state riders...?" believe me when I say we
want you interstate guys at Track Attack when the weather's perfect
in Melbourne (if you northerners can take a little heat), and
I'm sure Shane wants you for BSX.
We also want you to come down here if you're up to it for the
State Titles and if I have to shake a Queenslander's hand because
he just won the 1V plate I'll be first in line to do so.
A lot of things have needed changing in BMX in Victoria, and changes
are being made. Changes to the way the sport is administered,
changes to our approach to coaching under new State Coach Tony
Harvey, and the VIC OPEN Titles is just one of the changes for
the good of the sport down here. Once we have high rider numbers
again the open/closed status of the Vic Titles may change again,
but for now this is the right decision.
To all you interstate riders, the Knox club (I'm not a member_too proud) has one of the best BMX facilities in the country; they're in the process of further improving their track right now and the crew they and BMXV have got in place to run the Vic Open Titles know exactlywhat they're doing and will do a great job. There's even free spectator entrance, and a new massive sealed carpark, which will also be free (unlike at some events,).
Remember, riding the Vic Titles also qualifies you to ride in the 2007 National Titles, even if you're from another State
So come on down (or SA & WA come on over) to Knox for the 25th & 26th November and even if you take all our #1V plates (which you won't) we'll still make you welcome.
by Shane Jenkins
We received an email questioning Victoria's decision
to open the Victorian State Championships, and since I was at
the BMXVictoria council meeting where the decisions were made
to open both the 2005 and 2006 state titles, I think I could probably
answer this one pretty well (any one can feel free to jump in
and correct me). But first the email:
John Seiler
Having been with BMX a long time (19yrs), is it progression to
have state titles open to other states. I mean how can the Victorian
Titles be called that if interstate riders are invited to come,
is it fair for Victorian riders who race all year and want to
be 1V and when the titles are on they line up against 20 or more
riders in their age from interstate (I realise they may be scored
separate, I am not sure how they are scored). Wouldn't riders
from other states rather travel for Track Attack and BSX series
and leave State titles for home state riders. How do the Victorian's
families feel about the other States coming. I am from Qld and
our Pro section is being opened to other States riders this year
and I fear our ages will be in years to come. Why have a "Queensland's"
if it is just another big open day? Curiosity and discussion only
not complaining as i may be out dated and the majority may want
this.
The initial decision to open the 2005 Victorian State Championships
was because of the location of the track. It was hosted by Portland,
in the far west of Victoria, and around an hour drive from the
Mount Gambier BMX club. The folks from Mount Gambier have been
supporting clubs in Victoria, especially those in the West of
the state like Portland and helping them out in numerous ways.
To allow those guys to race the state championships would require
opening the event.
There are many other reasons why the BMXVictoria committee decided
to open the event, but were secondary to supporting those who
supported Portland when they needed it most.
There are only around 500 registered members in Victoria and about
half of those would actively participate at the State Championships.
With those numbers it would be difficult to make the event break
even and be affordable to participants, the additional 80 or so
riders certainly helped.
If only 250 riders were able to compete that would have meant
that certain classes couldn't have been run because they would
have been undersubscribed. It would also mean that you would pretty
much receive a state title in your class by default because there
wouldn't be the numbers for even a final (in most cases).
I have been racing the Victorian State Titles since 1983, the
prestige of winning the number 1 or winning a top 8 plate was
sucked out of the titles as soon as Victoria started to present
all riders in the class with a number. And I think this is a problem
in general, at title events we should award 1-8 and other events
1-3, where money classes should be 1-8 all the time because those
guys put their asses on the line week in week out. A rider shouldn't
expect to win #1 because they would be the fastest rider leading
up to the event, but because they were the fastest rider on the
day. If we don't increase the competition level at our titles,
how will our riders be ready for other events like the Track Attack
or the Thunderdome, or more importantly national or international
title events?
I am a strong believer that the Victorian Titles need to be open
right now but only because we don't have a national series for
all classes, with at least one round in every state, and because
the numbers are so low. If we could double the registered rider
base BMX in Victoria would once again be at a healthy level. So
all you Victorian's out there I challenge you to drag one friend
into the sport for 2006, hell everyone should do it. I have lent
my cruiser out to a mate for a month because he was interested
in getting involved in BMX racing, and he has 2 little girls (6
and 4), if we can get more people like Adam involved we wouldn't
be having this discussion, over and over.

Apart from Wade Bootes who’s suspected to have injured a
thumb, its all smiles down here at the Willers residence after
placing 2nd in round 6 of the UCI Oceanic ranking series this
past weekend, as this now puts me in the lead and about 7 points
ahead in the rankings.
Racing was held at my local track in Cambridge (New Zealand), which is just 2mins from place. It started out to be sunny day however in typical NZ fashion and as we are sitting on the gate for the 1st moto the sky’s opened up and once again let the Aussies and Japanese know that it isn’t very often we get to ride in the sunshine. As we’re used to this weather the surface of the track doesn’t change much and is still easily ridden.
On the gate with TR6 star Warwick Stevenson and Michael “Tiger” Robinson (Intense) it was going to be tough to qualify. The gate dropped and after a hell-of-a short 20m sprint to the 1st table top, which is straight into a step up I get out of the 1st turn alive and in 2nd behind the “Warlock”. I settle behind him for the 2nd straight with the confidence I could pull him down the 3rd. The plan started off great and I pulled up alongside him right before the triple going into the 3rd turn. But as I pulled up for the triple I’m not really sure what happened and we tagged elbows and as far as I’m aware I didn’t even touch the last two humps as Warwick dragged me along the ground into the bottom of the turn. Chalk up a 6th place.
2nd time round with the rain still comin’ down hard, I pull to the 1st turn in front of Warwick and “Tiger”. I was pretty stoked with that as I know that if I can get to the turn 1st then no one is going to pass me on a track that I might as well live at, so I settle in for the win.
3rd moto and the same happened again i.e. I win! So after a crappy 1st lap I qualify with good confidence.
Semi time and once again the 3 of us get out even but for some reason Warwick does not turn as much going into the turn. With him going straight ahead and Tiger coming over hard from the outside I get a mad squeeze and Tiger and I get a bit shaky letting two others through. I recover in 4th spot but going down the 3rd straight I was trying to figure out what 2nd and 3rd were doing so I could make my pass, and in that time Tiger gets up the inside of me. I sat back and watched him and Daniel Johnstone fight it out while I was saving up some much needed energy down the mile long last straight rhythm. Going through the last turn they collide and both get loose and Tiger clips out so I make my move & get back into 3rd.
With me making the final and Wade crashing out of the other semi, as a result of 8 guys trying to get to the end of a 40m 1st straight all at once, it was now just a matter of how many points lead I wanted.
Getting out of the gate a bit late, I stick to the inside of the turn as all hell breaks loose and basically everyone from lane 4-8 either takes a dive or is messed up including Warwick, Kamakazi, Michael Fenwick, Tony Wilcock and Rhys Telford (Avent/Bombshell) - who goes for a trip over the turn smacking straight into the back of the corrugated iron finish line hut! With Luke Madill (GT) in front and Johnston in 2nd I chase them around the track making my move to take the two-spot down the last straight.
As I try to recover & with my legs burning like hell I swear the last rain drop falls. As soon as we crossed the line, the sun came out! Now we’re all hoping that it will stay fine for our National Championships and round 7 this coming weekend.
Formula Bicycles press release
Phoenix, Arizona – The Formula Bicycles factory team rolled
into Black Mountain BMX last weekend to do some damage on the
ABA side of the coin. With Mike Lundy taking a break for the winter,
Donny Robinson, Amanda Geving, Warren McDow, and Chad Kerley were
all ready to flex some Formula muscle on the track where it counts.
Donny Robinson has been the hottest Pro on the planet lately and Phoenix was no exception. Coming off his first ever Elite Men’s double the week prior at the NBL’s Nellis national, dR was amped to make his mark in the ABA. “I feel like I’m on top of the world right now,” stated Robinson and with good reason. Donny came into the Winters leading every Pro points category (20” and cruiser) in the ABA, NBL, and UCI. Donny was feelin’ it on Saturday easily powering through motos. In the main, dR proved once again that he’s the man to beat right now powering his Formula Solution Pro to a decisive win. dR backed it up in Pro Cruiser with another start-to-finish victory for his first-ever same-day Pro double. On Sunday, Robinson once again rocked AA Pro winning all three mains, another first for him. dR couldn’t make it a clean sweep with a double double, getting barely beat out in Pro Cruiser and settled for second place. Any way you slice it, three wins and a second is great in BMX and unheard of in the Pro ranks.
Amanda Geving made the trip from Florida to do battle in the ultra-competitive Women’s Pro class. Geving nabbed herself a fifth on Saturday and powered her Formula Hybrid Pro Minus to a second place on Sunday.
Warren McDow had trouble just getting to Phoenix and the trip was one worth forgetting. After his flight was canceled last minute on Friday morning, Warren made it to Phoenix early Saturday morning and practiced with barely any sleep. It showed as Warren didn’t make class or open main on Saturday. On Sunday, McDow crashed hard in his 17-24 Open main, severely bruising his shoulder. With the injury, he barely could make it out of the gate come his class main and had to settle for fifth. Warren promises to be ready for Roseville.
Chad Kerley always delivers a show for the fans. With his combination of skill and smooth riding, Kerley is the mini-pro that everyone knows to watch. On Saturday, Kerley battled with Jordan Miranda in 11-12 Open but settled for second. In 12 Expert, Kerley had Wesley Gunn in sights. Black Mountain is Gunn’s home track and between the announcing and the fans screams, you would think Gunn has it in the bag. Not so. Kerley dropped into the second spot behind Gunn for most of the race. But anyone who knows Kerley knows that the last place you want him is in second right behind you. Chad set up Gunn in the last turn and used his patented swoop to take the lead and the win on his Formula Solution Expert Plus. In Sunday’s 12 Expert main, Chad got a good pop and lead it start to finish for his first double of the year.
Look for the Formula Factory team at the NBL’s Florida national this weekend and at the ABA’s Roseville national later this month.

Bombshell press release
BOMBSHELL
INC. is proud to announce the release of it's NEW & INNOVATIVE
method for solving an age old problem with BMX race frames. The
PATENT PENDING VPS™ (V-Brake Position System) allows the
use of a 20" x 1 1/8" or 1 3/8 TIRE to be used in a
PRO SIZED frame. It also can be used to accept a 20" x 1.5"
or 1 3/4" TIRE in an EXPERT or SMALLER sized frame. The VPS™
can also be used on Cruiser sized rims as well.
Prior to the release of the BOMBSHELL VPS™, expensive LONG REACH brakes had to be used to get the brake pad in the optimal location, often compromising the wheel base of the bike to get the brake pads to contact the rim.
The VPS™ is CNC Machined from high strength 6061-T6 for flex free braking. VPS™ is easily installed by simply removing your existing brake post and installing the included low profile securing bolt then reinstalling the brake post into the VPS™ mount. The VPS™ can be mounted in either direction for the needed 19mm offset.
Used by Elite Girl Pro Alise Post.
The suggested retail of the VPS™ is $39 US and can be purchased thru FLY RACING, Seattle Bike Supply, or directly from Bombshell.

Supercross Yamaha Mini SX gets the green light
The event will take place on Tuesday April 25th (Anzac day public holiday) at the Frankston BMX track with full support from Frankston City council
"Tuesday April 25th (Anzac day public holiday) is the perfect opportunity to run the event without clashing with Crusty or any other races. Being a public holiday we believe it will also leave many locals looking for something to do, where hopefully the Mini SX will fit nicely.
"Conditions of running on Anzac day mean that racing can’t start until after 1:00pm which will work out fine. We will get practice etc completed in the morning as per the entry form and racing will start at 1:15pm," Sinclair added.
VOLUNTEERS WANTED - John Durso who helps out at all the Vic Clubs
on race days is asking for anyone to spare an hour to come down
and give us a hand. We are expecting up to 2000 spectators. The
Frankston rotary is handling the BBQ.
We need some people for berm officials, canteen support, general.
We are receiving a substantial amount of money to help host this event - The money will be used to recreate the track and facilities before Track Attack. Our New lights are up, the fence is fixed and the start Hill cover is now finished. the council will tackle the toilets and the canteen next.
Come along and Support Us.

giving better access to the Knox track direct from the corner

Here are some more responses to the spectator fees at the Australian
national champs
Jason Bergstrom TN, USA
Spectators don't have to pay at any meeting including indoor locals,
nationals or outdoors anywhere across the US from East to West
coast. They get the option to pay if they want to get involved
in the fundrasiers where there are prizes like the 50/50 and such.
BMX is all about family, as a family they help BMX grow and have
good timed together.
If they charged non-racers things would turn around and less people
would show up until eventually you would just end up with racers
at the events. Most nationals here are held on private tracks
or state parks, it's no unusual to be charges at the gate 10 bucks
per car for 3 days of parking or even those who choose to camp
in the track surrounds might get charged a little more. At the
grand nationals (the biggest finals event of the year) in Louisville
KY, they charge between 40-75 bucks for camping.
Andrew Hepburn Vic, AUS
I called BMXA to find out if someone escorting a child, who is
competing to the event, would still have to pay entry. I feel
the entry fees should be able to cover a complementary ticket
to a support person who is with a rider. The answer was yes I
would still have to pay even though my 7 year old can't race without
an adult present.
However I was told the issue will be raised at the next board
meeting as it is a valid point.
by bmxultra.com
Jason
Bergstrom, our US team rider was so excited about these track
changes he wanted us to share them with us, and we think it's
worthy of a news article.
Tanglewood BMX in Clemmons, North Carolina are preparing their track for the NC State Qualifier on May 20 and The Tarheel National (NBL, Big A) on May 27-28.
The pro section looks like a whole lotta fun. The second straight is split pro/am. The pros have to jump over the the corner San Jose Supercross style, while the ams obviously go around. The next straight is also split with some nice dirt jumps for the pros and some rhythm for the ams.
The am track looks to have also changed and should be more than enough to challenge the am riders.
To check out more photos of the track visit www.tanglewoodbmx.com and follow the link to "Check Out The NEW TRACK!"
by Shane Jenkins
Obviously criticism will be taken personally by some individuals.
The fact is that without criticism or feedback out organiser are
going to think that everything is smooth sailing, and a sport
like ours just wouldn't be able to grow the way it should.
I have checked with friends in the US and they have never had
to pay to spectate at a National event, indoor or outdoor. If
running the Australian Championships indoor is so expensive why
not run it outdoor, then maybe some of Australia's clubs and riders
will benefit from track/facility upgrades and local media coverage.
Take BMX to the masses, don't charge them and expect them to come
to you.
Here are the responses, so far, to paying fees to spectate at
the Aussies:
Graeme Anderson
Hi Shane, I totally agree with you about the Spectator fees
at the Aussies.
At a time when state organisations are working hard to increase rider numbers I find it completely absurd that BMXA are charging a fee for spectators which can only discourage people from attending. Generally speaking most spectators will be a parent or sibling of a competitor in which case they will have already outlaid a considerable sum just to get to the event.
In the case of my own family we have already outlaid over $500.00 for entries. We have yet to pay for travel and accommodation which will be another $1000.00 by the time we get there and we only have to travel from Melbourne, thank god we are not coming from Cairns or WA. To then be told we have to pay an additional $30.00 per person for non competitors to get in is absolutely outrageous. (It is only for non competitors isn’t it?)
In Victoria last year BMXV took the unprecedented step of cutting nearly 20% off the cost of entering the state championships to make the sport more affordable for riders and their families. As a result the States had a much better than expected turn out when you consider it was held at Portland some 4 to 5 hours from Melbourne.
Back to the fee. If it is BMXA charging the fee as I have been told it is, they have completely lost sight of the big picture. I also believe there will be a fee for parking each day as well.
If we had known all of this before we paid our entries I would be suggesting to everyone to give the Aussies a big miss and come to Knox in November for the Victorian State Championships which is now an open event.
Jane Durso
I remember our first title 2004 at Adelaide. We went as a family
of 5. Paid for 2 to race and 3 adult tickets to watch because
Katrina's sister was classed as an adult. Add all that up in 4
days and it's costly. I also remember angry parents outside the
ticket booth on practice day, when we were all told we had to
pay that day as well.
This year to cut cost it will be 2 of us.
Is there a family ticket this year???? I didn't see it written
anywhere.
John Seiler
What I would pay to watch is for the parents and riders, disappointed
by the poorly consulted and high costing aussies, in a group discussion
with the BMXA board and no one is allowed to leave until some
sense has been seen. Could be a while BMXA? But those tickets
would be worth it I am sure.
by Shane Jenkins
The Australian BMX Championships is Australia's only national
event for all age classes that's run by BMXAustralia. It's a one
weekend thing that determines who will wear the #1 plate for the
next 12 months. Riders and families that have budgeted for the
travel, accommodation, food, a little sightseeing and steep entry
fees have just been told they will also need to find some money
for spectators.
I must admit, I had no intention of going to the Australian Championships
so I didn't read the entry form. That was until I was told by
a number of bmxultra.com readers that it didn't mention anything
about spectators fees and that it was just announced, after the
entries had closed, that spectators would have to pay to watch
the racing. And you know what, they are right. There is no mention
of spectators fees on the official entry form, which to me seems
very misleading.
It would cost people to pull the pin now...BMXAustralia have a
$25 fee for refunds that are only available by a certain date
and only with a medical certificate. And then there is the loss
of deposit on accommodation, etc.
Maybe BMXAustralia intend to donate the gate takings to those
devastated by cyclones or maybe they have just bitten off more
than they can chew with the overheads of having the event indoor.
Or is it they just didn't get the entries they were expecting
to cover the costs? Whatever the case you would think that the
sponsorship would have helped in some way.
If BMXA are going to charge for entry, some people might decide
that only the riders in their family will attend the event. Sponsorship
is only worth while if branding is drummed into people's heads.
If there are no spectators then are sponsors going to get any
value for their money?
Enough from me. If you would like to let us know what you think
of paying spectator fees to watch a race (Australian titles or
any other meeting) email webmaster@bmxultra.com.
NBL press release
Hilliard, Ohio – Hyper Bicycles is serious about their
commitment to the National Bicycle League (NBL) and to BMX racing,
signing on as the ‘Official Bicycle of the NBL’ for
yet another year. This marks the 3rd consecutive year that Hyper
has joined forces with the NBL forging an even stronger relationship
to promote their quality brand of BMX bikes and components.
In addition to their line of BMX race bikes, Hyper will also promote their ‘Hyper X-Games’ Motobike at select National Series events. The X-Games Motobike, which also sells at Wal-Mart and Toys R Us stores across the country for under $150, emulates the look of a traditional motocross bike but relies on pedal power, appealing to the X-Games influenced youth market. At each of the NBL Elite Series weekends, the NBL and Hyper will award one Motobike to the winner of a pre-selected ‘Motobike Main Event’ class to create awareness for the product. “The kids get excited when they see the Motobike on display and it creates a ‘buzz’ leading up to the ‘Motobike Main Event’ - one of the many ways we can make the weekend more ‘X-citing for the riders and spectators” says NBL’s Marketing Director, Kevin O’Brien.
Hyper’s relationship with ESPN and X-Games will further benefit the sport and create new opportunities for BMX to reach the mainstream youth market. NBL’s logo will be emblazoned on the Hyper travel trailer, the X-Games "Team" BMX bike sold in Toys R Us, and additional X-Games bike-related products, providing more exposure for the NBL brand across North America and the UK. “This is a win-win relationship for Hyper and the NBL. We can promote our products directly to the BMX market through the NBL and knowing that the NBL’s market share is growing in the West, we are confident that our company will be represented across the country” says Clay Goldsmid, owner of Hyper Bicycles. “The NBL has a unique opportunity to take their brand outside the immediate industry and into mass-merchant retailers like Wal-Mart and Toys R Us”, adds Goldsmid.
Bill Zimmerman, Hyper’s Team manager who already has 2 National Team Titles under his belt, is poised to make a run for his 3rd title and has the Hyper squad at the top of the NBL Team standings. The team will also host a number of clinics at NBL National and Regional events to help develop the future stars of BMX and give local riders a chance to meet Lance McGuire and the rest of the team in person.
Look for more good news developing from this partnership in the near future. Check out Hyper’s full product line at www.hyperbicycles.com and log on to the NBL website www.nbl.org for schedule information and more.

Double A Marketing press release
Round 5 of the 2006 ABA Pro Series was held this past weekend
at the world famous Black Mountain track in Phoenix, Arizona.
The Black Mountain track has to be the smoothest track on the
ABA tour, and one of the fastest tracks as well. With a weekend
of great weather, over 300 action packed moto's, and the worlds
fastest Pro riders in attendance, it would make for an epic BMX
race weekend. Here is how the Double A Marketing riders in attendance
finished up for the weekend.
Randy Stumpfhauser had another great weekend
of racing, with 2 podium finishes. On Saturday, Randy was looking
super smooth and fast all day, and when it was time for the AA
Pro main, he was one of the standout riders on the track. Randy
finished up just out of the 1st place spot, with a 2nd overall
. This was his 5th podium in AA Pro in as 5 races in the ABA.
In Pro Cruiser, Randy finished up 5th. On Sunday, Randy looked
to podium again in AA Pro, but a 8th place finish in the first
main would not allow it and give him 5th for the day. Randy made
it up to his fans in Pro Cruiser, where he lead from the gate
drop to the finish line, taking home the win. Randy's sponsors
include GT Bicycles, Kenda, ODI, AC, Tangent, Sun Rims, Bombshell,
Fly Racing, Powerbar, CTI Knee Braces, OGIO, X Balm, Tool Shed,
SDG, SRAM, Easton, S & M Bars, Cyto Max, and BMXpros.com.
Dale Holmes made his fans happy as well in Phoenix,
as the crafty veteran of AA pro was in both the AA and Pro Open
mains on Saturday. Dale impressed a lot of the younger riders
with his speed and skill on the super fast Black Mountain track.
Dale's best main event finish was a 3rd in Pro Open, while he
settled for 8th in AA pro. On Sunday, Dale was once again out
front and looking to be in both main events, but a crash in the
3rd moto ended his day short. Dale will be heading over to Europe
in a few weeks for the first few rounds of the European race series.
Look for him and the Free Agent World team to be atop podiums
world wide. Dale's sponsors include Free Agent, KHS, THE, Skin,
Shimano, Troy Lee Designs, ODI, Sun Ringle, Power Bar, OGIO, Utopia,
S & M Bars and Forks, Thomson, Kenda, Cyto Sport, DaleHolmes.com
and BMXpros.com.
Kyle Bennett looked impressive as ever on the
Phoenix track, with huge leads and easily making it to the AA
Pro mains both days. On Saturday, Kyle looked to be one of the
riders to beat as he holeshotted the 1st main event, but an aggressive
move by another rider left him on the ground in turn one. Kyle
would fight back for better results for the rest of the main event,
but he would finish up 7th for the day. On Sunday, Kyle was back,
looking ready to redeem himself with a better main event finish.
Kyle did just that, with a 2nd overall and making his fans quite
happy. Kyle's sponsors include Free Agent, KHS, Fly Racing, Bombshell
F1 Fork, Sun Ringle, Shimano, UGP, Kenda, Thomson, Utopia Eyewear,
THE Products, S & M bars, ODI, ORP, OGIO, Powerbar, Cyto Sport,
and BMXpros.com.

Ok so now here are the rumours:

of all from Cyclone Larry. Natarsha's mum Margaret has also been
a hard worker for BMX for many years and has only just retired
the position of BMX Qld Returning officer. I bet she could certainly
use some help right now... so that's where we come in - raising
funds.

EMAIL FROM NATARSHA (28/3/06);
Hi Kent, this is Natarsha Williams just emailing you to let you
know that i have several BMX Pro Jerseys from the USA which they
so kindly donated for the club in far north Qld. I heard that
you were going to auction them off. I have the likes of Bubba
Harris, Kyle Bennett, Warrick Stevenson, Randy Stumphauser and
Matt Polhkamp, which they have all signed... If you could get
back to me on what you want me to do with them that would be great..
Lets get these clubs back up and running..
All the best
