We have had a few more emails about an Australian version
of the BS stops event, as it builds momentum
we should have some more details. At this stage we are pushing
to hold it at the Victorian Open State titles, before racing starts,
which is at Knox in the last weekend in November.
Jon McGlashan
Billy Dixon has forgotten who left Kamakazi for dead as an 18
year old "Australian Titles 1995"...Kamahl Lord. Racing
with Kamahl over the years I guarantee he smoked Johnny more times
than he would like to remember
Brett MaliC - South Australia
I am up for “BS” racing. But I’m not supporting
it for the potential to attract older riders or the excitement,
glamour or thrill. I’m supporting it because I will only
have to ride the first straight and not the rest of the track
I’m ‘buggered” after the first turn, so this
first straight idea, is “sweeeeeet mate”.
So, bring on the “BS” and lets get some fun happening.
[Editor: please don't tell Brett the idea is to have it at Knox,
he always crashes there before the first turn]
Brett Scruse - NSW
I would throw my hat into the ring if I had time to get
to the race just need to get these pesky bolts out of my ankle
. would it be flats or clips ? 34 years old now but still some
fight in the old dog. As for first straight pull it's gotta be
Johnny K no doubt.
We need to start building a list of riders prepared to put ego on the line, if your name isn't on this list and you are up for a 30 & Over open wheel, flat pedal, first straight drag race elimination style to prove who has the first straight pull drop us an email.

by Wade Bootes/Australian National Talent ID BMX Coach
In 2006 BMXA has looked to introduce a number of initiatives
as we look to develop the rider talent base within Australia,
in particular with the implementation of the inaugural Champbikx
Series. This series formed the primary selection tool for the
first National Talent ID Squad (NTIDS). Over the weekend of the
16-18th June, BMXA in conjunction with their partners conducted
their first National camp with the 12 most consistent riders throughout
the series gaining selection. Also invited to attend were the
State Coaching Directors and some special guests.
2006 National Talent ID Squad
RIDER AGE STATE
FEMALE
Kirsten Dellar 14 Tom Price, WA
Rachel Bracken 15 Townsville, QLD
Cherie Simpson 15 Byford, WA
Caroline Buchanan 16 Tuggeranong, ACT
Grace Ireland 16 Liverpool, NSW
MALE
Brendan Abel 14 Caboolture, QLD
Sam Willoughby 15 Happy Valley, SA
Josh Callan 15 Lilydale, VIC
Michael Chasteauneuf 15 Eastfield, VIC
Stevie Janssen 16 Nerang, QLD
Dirk Winter 16 Nerang, QLD
Ben Davis 16 Byford, WA
A total of 28 riders, staff and coaches were involved in the camp, held on the Gold Coast at the QAS Tallebudgera Sports and Recreation Centre also utilising the Nerang BMX Club and Nerang Velodrome facilities and the local trails for additional training. With the support of our partners Cycling Australia, Australian Institute of Sport, Queensland Academy of Sport and Human Fusion, BMXA was able to provide the all attendees with fantastic resources. With the current athlete development pathways in place, BMXA hopes that this program will provide many riders from the Talent ID squad a direct pathway into the Cycling Australia High Performance Program in the future.
The camp kicked off on Friday evening, focusing on the necessary
tools of a successful BMX rider. With the primary focus on race
tactics, mental preparation, goal-setting and visualization techniques.
Riders were then taken through a series of Core Strength and Stability
exercises upon which the riders were assessed. Our sponsors Body
Science (BSC) were on hand to provide refreshments and supplements
for the hard working athletes and coaches.
Day two began with the goal to educate the riders on expected
training regimes along with introducing some testing procedures
from QAS Sports Science Department. A 6 sec ergo test, 40m light
gate test, agility and sprint drills were performed to measure
the riders physical capabilities. There were some great results
from these tests justifying why these riders were selected as
the top junior riders in the country. The athletes had a short
rest and light recovery at the beach. Tammie Ebert (Talent Search
Coordinator AIS Cycling) gave a great lecture on Nutritional Requirements
for BMX Athletes before the riders went into the QAS Gymnasium
with Brad Pillette-Hughes from Human Fusion for further testing.
This session focused on weight training and correct technique
whilst training. Another series of tests were conducted with all
athletes performing well. Following this the athletes were taken
through a recovery lecture, involving both training and competition.
The group viewed a documentary on the USA MTB team qualifying
for the 2004 Olympic Games “Off Road to Athens”. Here
the riders saw the insight into the level of dedication required
by athletes to compete at a professional level.
Day three was time for the riders to showcase their track skills
at the Nerang BMX track and the local trails. In what was a solid
session, the early focus was on the gate start and gaining necessary
video footage of the athletes to monitor their current technique.
The session also involved observing the riders skills throughout
the track with an agility course set-up and a time-trial all riders
produced some great results. With all the girls jumping the first
straight double’s at Nerang and riding strongly through
the local trails the future for Australian female rider’s
looks promising. Also included was a special visit from Nerang
local, current Olympic Champion Sara Carrigan, who offered some
words of encouragement for the group. The riders then moved to
the local trails to hone their skills over a difficult, tight
course returned to camp for the debrief and departed to catch
their flights home after what was an intense three days.
The primary focus of the camp was to introduce Australia’s
brightest BMX talents to a range of training and testing procedures
that will allow them to prepare for the rigours of high level
competition. It was also about educating the State Coaching Directors
about the expectations in preparing potential athletes for development
squads/teams as we look to strengthen the talented rider base
around the country.
A huge thank you goes out to all that assisted in making this
camp a great success. To all the squad riders and all State Coaching
Directors and assistant coaches, we look forward to working closely
together over the next twelve months. To all the QAS Staff, in
particular James Victor and Mark Osborne, Tammie Ebert, Brad Hughes
and the Nerang BMX Club. A big thanks goes to Body Science (BSC)
and Fitball for supplying products for the riders and also to
Cat eye, Finish line and Park Tool for supporting the Talent ID
squad riders.

NBL/UCI Series comes to a close this weekend / NBL Elite Series
Race tighter than ever.

The famous South Park BMX track has been updated and promises to provide one of the best weekends of racing in the season. Only 1 point separates Free Agent’s Kyle Bennett and Formula’s Donny Robinson at the top of the NBL Elite series standings but Staats/TLD’s Robert de Wilde and GT’s Randy Stumpfhauser will have two more shots to catch the leaders. The East Coast women continue to lead the way in the Elite Women’s standings with Formula’s Amanda Geving, Rite Bike’s Madison Pitts, and Bizarro’s Kayla Gaddis atop the standings but as the season tick’s away, BMXMania.com’s Ashley Stamper and Redline’s Kim Hayashi are closing ground. Look for more Women than ever in contention for the coveted #1 plate at the NBL Grands.
Avent’s Kiyomi Waller and Redman’s Andrew Downey sit atop the NBL Masters standings separated by a mere 5 points but Psykopath’s Terry Tenette, who won both days in Evansville, and Redline’s Jason Carnes will have their chance to turn the tables.
The NBL/UCI Elite Series, designed to further promote the UCI Continental Series, comes to a close this weekend with the last two UCI Continental Series races joining the regular program. Staats/TLD’s Robert de Wilde and Supercross’s Samantha Cools come into the weekend leading their respective Elite standings but Formula’s Donny Robinson and Fly’s Krystal Hime will provide the challenge for the title. 2006 UCI BMX RANKING
The UCI is pleased to introduce the UCI BMX ranking and results
in a new format directly linked to the UCI website calendar. The
Continental ranking is in full mode on all continents, with the
South American and Asian/Oceanic ranking coming to an end, while
the North American and European ranking series is getting busy
with races all the way up to the World Championships in Brazil.

points and are way up there in the Overall standing as well. Look
for other North American riders to move up through the rank when
the North American races are kicking in full gear. Don’t
count out the Euro’s where the super strong Latvian riders
and the French squad has been scoring good points in the beginning
of the series.
Elite Women Overall ranking
Gabriella Diaz (ARG) has made a move towards the top scoring valuable
points in the last rounds of the Latin American rounds. Tanya

The online registration system has been activated for all National Federations on the UCI website, where they are requested to enter all participants in Challenge classes before the deadline of June 15th 2006, and July 14 for the elite classes. All riders must enter through their National Federation, and no individual entries are accepted.
UCI INTRODUCING PERMANENT CAREER NUMBERS
Starting with the season 2006-2007 (from 1 August 2006),
the UCI is introducing a permanent number system for Elite Men
& Elite Women. With this system, riders can choose a “career
number”, which they have the exclusive right to use for
their entire Elite class career. This will give riders a possibility
to market themselves and to give media and spectators an easy
way to identify riders.
The UCI permanent number system is solely for the Elite Men & Elite Women class, where any rider with an international license rider can choose a permanent career number from 10 to 999. Number 1 – 8 will be reserved and will be assigned to the top 8 finishers in the previous years BMX World Championship, and can be used for the upcoming season.
A chosen number will be exclusive for the rider, and cannot be used by any other elite class (including Junior and Cruiser classes). A chosen number will remain as long as the rider receives UCI points during the season, although the number will be assigned to the rider for 2 additional years (without points) before becoming available again.
The National Federations will receive an application form shortly, and shall submit a list of all their (Elite Men & Elite Women and Juniors moving up) riders, wishing to receive a permanent number before July 30, 2006.
Individual riders shall contact their National Federation in order to apply for a permanent number.
2006 UCI BMX SUPERCROSS WORLD CUP
As previously announced, the 2006 UCI BMX Supercross
World Cup will be held over 2 rounds. The first round of the UCI
BMX Supercross will be held 6-7 September 2006 in San Jose, CA
(USA) at the “Toyota Challenge” stop of Dew Action
Sport Tour. A new feature for 2006 is that the BMX Supercross
finals will be held on Thursday night under lights, assuring a
spectacular show for TV and spectators.
The second and final round of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup will be held 6-7 October 2006 in conjunction with the Roc d’Azur event in Fréjus, France. Roc d’Azur is one of the largest cycling festivals in the world, 2005, Roc d’Azur attracted more than 120’000 spectators with its shows and exhibitions which also featured a mountain bike marathon event with over 10’000 participants. With the event being located 5 minutes from the Mediterranean Sea has more likely played an important role to its success. Please visit http://www.rocazur.com
More information will be published soon on the UCI website; http://www.uci.ch/modello.asp?1stLevelID=EA&level1=0&level2=0&idnews=4064

During the Aussie winter it's usually difficult to get motivated
to race, it could be the effort to clean the bike but we won't
get into that. When I saw that the Wyndham Warriors were going
to try something different, and realising that we still hadn't
checked out the track since it got off the ground 18 months ago,
it was time to check it out.
The track is a lot different to what I expected, it's a little more lippy that most tracks in Victoria, but it was a whole lot of fun. Nothing so big it was going to be impossible.
The something different was holeshot money and a fastest finalist time bonus. It sounds pretty fair to me, and a good idea for the club to use a regional race to test the waters. There was bonus money for both pro cruiser and pro 20 inch, so a bunch of guys did both. The problem there was the moto count was pretty low, maybe 25-30 and as soon as riders would finish on one bike they would be back on the hill for more. One thing that I thought was interesting was the money for winning the bonuses would far outweigh the overall win money, so realistically riders would just have to do enough to win to the end of the first straight and scrape into the main, to quailfy for the timed run. Then they could go for a few extra dollars in the final if there was any juice left in the tank. The killer was the moto count and 4 qualifying rounds, on a bigger stage this would be a fantastic concept. Maybe drop it for cruiser though, and just concentrate on AA pro or even include A pro some how.
Here's the times for the "hot laps", some riders chose
to sit them out because of the crazy number of laps they'd already
done.

I have Schwinn jerseys and pants, Clayborn jerseys and matching
fox pants, Diamondback jerseys and matching troy lee pants. All
either brand new or 1 wear. 3 Diamondback frames-1 brand new xl
, 1 custom that I raced once and another xl that I raced once.
I also have a cruiser that I raced once at the worlds that is
cursed. (It's the bike that's put him out of racing for over a
year.)

Day 2 - Sunday - Vic Vs SA qualifying
Nothing exciting, 4 pointless qualifiying motos, oh and it was
the second day in a row of no rain.
Day 3 - Monday - Finals
Two more qualifying rounds and finals, no sign of rain until the
A Pro semis, making the track a little slick but it quickly dried
up.
The
Wolfman dropped into the track in the break before the finals.
He put on a bit of a jig for the crowd and was loaded up with
give aways including the latest edition of the XBR newspaper and
some Gavin D calendars.
bmxultra.com's own Scooby Guyers rocked up to race the 16 boys,
and it would have been a clean sweep for him if it wasn't for
a bad start in the final race, with not enough riders for a final,
he was making a move coming into the "S" bends just
before the finish line, but some contact with Mark Stagg saw him
hit the deck. Scooby still won easily overall.
Bruiser Cruiser didn't disappoint, our own Shane Jenkins got off
to the early lead, and was the only rider to jump the big doubles
in the final. Brett MaliC slotted into second until Raymond Ross
slipped by him. On the home stretch Jenkins made a mistake in
the rhythm section which allowed Ross to take the lead. Jenkins
settled for second, MaliC for third, Chris De Nys fourth and Glenn
Suridge in fifth. The bmxultra.com boys didn't live up to the
prediction of first and second but second and third ain't bad.
Pro women had only 8 riders, so the winner would be determined
by points over all...that's like a 7 race final series. The BMX
racing version of the NHL's Stanley Cup. Angela Wooding was strong
but struggled to get far enough ahead of the track smart Kerrie-Lee
Lucas. The over all win came down to the wire with Angela taking
the win and the win. Kerrie-Lee took second and Lauren Rowe took
third.
There was a changing of the guards in A Pro, Galea headed home
after day 1, and Peter Trenwith and a couple of others showed
up for the Vic Vs SA Challenge.
There were just enough riders for 6 man semis, the riders to watch
were those on the bubble, there were some desperate moves and
very narrow misses. In the main Ash McCutcheon finished of his
clean sweep of the weekend. Ash just had too much first straight
pull for the rest of the field. Trenwith went down in the 3rd
corner which caused a pile up involving about 6 of the 8 riders.
This allowed Lachlan McSwain to slip into second and local Zac
Lennon to take third. Shane Claassen took fourth and Nick Brooks
in fifth.
In
the AA main Fenwick took gate 8, which was surprising since Ben
Price has an awesome first straight. When the gate dropped Price
pulled away until Fenwick passed him of the first straight doubles
and never looked back. Price settled for second with Matt and
Sam Willoughby in third and fourth. Pretlove finished fifth.
Rumour has it that the Mount Gambier track will now go through
some transformation, the intention is to make it more challenging
and more fun. We also hear there could be an pro event at Gambier
later in the year.
We'd like to take the opportunity to thank our hosts for the weekend.
Nick and Michelle Brooks and Scott Bradley. If it were just for
the racing we probably wouldn't spend three potentially heavy
days at Mount Gambier in the middle of winter. Thanks guys.

There were 60 entries for the 4X race meeting at the Park
Orchards BMX track. The track felt so much different on an MTB
than it does on the BMX. The finish line was at the end of the
third straight just so the track didn't wear you out too much.
Well
there were a few BMX racers who went there and represented the
BMX community, Dean Coles was winning everything on his cruiser
but come final time his chain snapped, He finished up 3rd in the
oldies class. This left the one and only GT manager Steve Robinson
to take out the win.
In sports class it was my turn to represent the BMX'ers. I won
all my races and had the best time, the difference from the BMX
to MTb is so much, the weight and the shox really take it out
of you, I came home with the win in the final.
In Elite Shaun Craven had trouble just riding the bike, breaking
one going for the triples and having to borrow one for racing.
He didn't make the semi. Nobba (Adam Robb) was racing awesome
and made it through a tuff semi. Simon Anderson showed that he
rules 4X, making it through like a breeze and the "virgin"
at the sport, Benny Price, was absolutely killing it off the starts.
The final went down and it was Ando and Pricey who shot ahead
of the field. They were out in the lead by miles. Ben took the
win and Anderson second, Nobba shut down and rolled in for fourth.
The BMX'ers showed the MTB boys how to ride and it was an awesome
day out.

Round 9 of the 2006 ABA Pro series national events was held this
past weekend at the Rockford BMX track. Rockford is known as one
of the smoothest and fastest tracks on the national tour and is
one of the best tracks in the nation. A purse power track, Rockford
showcases the riders that have been putting in the time training.
Hot and humid conditions met the riders smack on at the start
of the race weekend on Saturday, and Sunday was an all day rain
laden race day. Both days had exciting race action from the Double
A Marketing pros who were in attendance. Here is how Kyle Bennett
and Randy Stumpfhauser finished up the weekend:
Kyle Bennett has become the most dominant AA
Pro in the past month. Kicking things off last weekend with 2
Elite Pro wins in Evansville, Kyle backed it up with another 2
huge AA Pro wins at the Rock. On Saturday, Kyle won all 3 AA Pro
main events, pulling every AA Pro in Rockford. Kyle had huge leads
and his trademarked effortless looking riding style had all the
pros scratching their heads. On Sunday, the rain forced the ABA
to change to 1 main event for the AA Pro, but Kyle didn't change
his style, with another impressive AA main event win. It looks
like all the hard work and determination after Kyle's knee surgery
has paid off, as he now looks to be very close to taking over
the Pro points lead in both the ABA and NBL. Kyle's sponsors include
Free Agent, KHS, Fly Racing, Bombshell F1 Fork, Sun Rims, Shimano,
UGP, Kenda, Thomson, Utopia Eyewear, S & M bars, ODI, ORP,
OGIO, Powerbar, Cyto Sport, and BMXpros.com.
Randy Stumpfhauser has never raced Rockford as
a AA Pro. Randy usually volunteers a week during each summer to
be a camp consular near his home and it seems to always fall on
the Rockford weekend. This year it didn't and massive amount of
Stumpy fans, as well as Randy were happy that it did not. On Saturday,
Randy was one of the fastest looking riders all day and when the
main events came, he didn't slow down. In AA Pro, Randy was one
of the few riders to get close to Kyle's back wheel and finished
up 2nd overall. In Pro Open, Randy took the lead from the gate
and didn't have anyone contest him as he took the win wire to
wire. Sunday wasn't as good for Stumpy, as he rode a bit cautious
in the AA semi in the slick conditions and missed the cut. Don't
fret Stumpy fans, he will be back in the winners circle soon,
and looks towards the NBL South Park, PA National and UCI event
in 2 weeks to do so. Randy's sponsors include GT Bicycles, Kenda,
ODI, Tangent, Sun Rims, Bombshell, Fly Racing, Powerbar, CTI Knee
Braces, OGIO, X Balm, Tool Shed, SDG, SRAM, Easton, S & M
Bars, Cyto Sport, and BMXpros.com.

We have even more responses for the BS event in Aus, the
meeting we think would be best for this event would be the Victorian
Open State titles, just to make the travel worth while for the
out of towners. Now all we have to do is convince the organisers.
Josh Issac - Victoria
I have just been to Rockford, man that BS race was great. They
had a sensational turn out and yes you should try and get to it.
Oh I will put my money on Comport over Galea because Comport has a better snap
John Seiler - Queensland
mmmmm I am sure Ryan Scott would be over 30 by now so watch out
NSW, and for cruisers how about two old cruiser warhorses for
QLD in the way of Butch Broomfield and Agro O'Connor. People might
be saying "who are these guys?" but hey the people who
know must have been around as long as me
Billy Ray Dixon - Queensland
>And which Pro rider do you think has the most first straight
pull?
First straight pull? Send a search party for Doctor Squat himself,
Johnny
Katakazi. Contrary to popular belief, he is NOT in jail.
I doubt anyone, past present or future could match him. Yep, its
a big claim.
Anyone willing to dispute it?
Perhaps Tim Ward, at his hugest, would have come close.

The Bendigo BMX Club and Bendigo Mining are working together
to rebuild the Bendigo BMX track which is famous for the Gold
Rush event that attracted Australia's best riders in the mid 90's
to early 00's.
This is awesome news for Bendigo who have been struggling to maintain
their track with a skeleton crew. Despite the track being open
to the public maintenance has been solely left to the club, a
problem that many Australian clubs face.
With the Northern Rivers Regional championships finals on at Bendigo
in August and a Sanctioned meeting in September there will be
plenty of opportunities for people to check out the reworked track.
The works are set to commence this weekend. Watch this space for
photos.
by Shane Jenkins/bmxultra.com
Despite a bunch of people thinking that the modified BS stops
concept won't work in Australia, the phones, IM and email have
been flat out discussing possibilities for the right venue/race
meeting, and we already have a whole bunch of guys interested.
Here are the email responses so far:
Rusty - Western Australia
Hey let me know what your thinking ,if this is going to be a race
meet with special interest shown to 30+ riders ,We have a few
riders here in the West that would be interseted .We already run
a 30+ class at our super series events that I know everybody loves
to watch because as you stated the BS stops here .
If you give us enough time I know a few West Aussies that would
come for sure.
Brian "Jock" Kelly - Victoria
30 and over first straight pull? Gotta be Thunder Dan! Trevor
Stamford might give him a run though, depending on what track
it's at. I'd be up for it!
John "Bar fridge" Barford - Victoria
Sounds like a great idea (and lots of tongue in cheek fun). I’m
game for a laugh! However most of my success was ruled back in
the UK a decade or so ago but the old fella can scare a few “A”
pro’s today.
by Ian Maclachlan
This is a call out to anyone who still may have a working
sidehack stored away in their garage. I am producing a short film
featuring BMX Racing and would like to use a sidehack to place
my camera operator on the back of. This way I can get some cool
tracking shots of riders training etc... If anyone in the South
East Queensland area has one, or knows anyone who has, please
call Ian on 0421 869 930. I can buy it or just hire it for the
time that we need it. I need to track one down in the next couple
of weeks. Thanks for your help,
by Shane Jenkins/bmxultra.com
With Rockford on this weekend it reminds me of one of one of my
favourite events, the 30 & Over BS Stops here. It's a race
meeting I have been wanting to get to since I first heard about
it about 3 years ago. I am sure there are a bunch of other 30
+ year old Aussie guys wanting to see how they rate against other
30 + riders. Sure we have Bruiser Cruiser and Vet Pro, at the
odd meeting, but we haven't had all of the top riders in those
classes because they have too many classes to choose from and
event organisers run those classes at even the smallest of meetings,
and it tends to water things down a little.
What if we were to have a variation of the BS Stops race right
here in Aus? I know in Victoria alone we have a whole bunch of
current and former Australian champions that would make for a
great class, let's look at the likes of Danny Galea, Simon Anderson,
Trevor Stamford, Gary Morgan, Brian Kelly, Trevor Weber, David
Cleary, Damien Callan, heck even I have won an Australian championship
and throw in the likes of Craig Walczuk, David Comport, Jamie
Bullows, Dean Coles, Glenn Suridge, and I am sure we could encourage
some of the older pros to have a bash, like Jamie Hales for example,
and that's just in Victoria. Throw in South Australians like Pete
Trenwith, Ross Raymond, Brett Malic, and New South Wales riders
like Damon Bevon, Brad Goman, Brett Barnes what about Western
Australia's Karl Mustchin or Queensland's Dave Woolard or Ross
Domigan, we could go on like this forever because I am sure there
are a whole lot of names that I have missed.
I think it's about time that we try to get everyone together,
in the one class, maybe make it a first straight drag race, flat
pedals only, and open wheel.
Now if we are going to have drag races why just do a 30 &
Over class, and why not have one for pro as well. I am sure there
would be plenty of pros hanging to prove themselves down the first
straight.
It would be awesome to kick off a big race meeting with an event
like this, to get the crowd reved up and the riders trying to
show each other up, and think about it, it's just a few more pedals
than the riders would put in if they were doing gates.
Who do you think would be the fastest 30 & Over rider? I have
my money on David Comport and Danny Galea fighting it out by the
closest of margins. And which Pro rider do you think has the most
first straight pull? Email webmaster@bmxultra.com
and let us know what you think.
NBL press release
The National Bicycle League is proud to introduce a new program
aimed at promoting the sport of BMX Racing outside of our direct
community and into the schools and playgrounds across America.
The new NBL ‘Bring-A-Buddy’ program is a unique new
rider recruitment effort designed to encourage current NBL members
to promote BMX and recruit their ‘buddies’ to try
BMX racing for the first time.
Knowing that ‘word-of-mouth’ marketing is once again emerging as a powerful marketing tool, we are providing each member with ‘Bring-A-Buddy’ recruiter cards inside the June and July issues of BMX Today Magazine and with it, a chance to win some major prizes including a Hyper Assault frame, a week at Camp Woodward, and more. With more than 20,000 members across the country, the NBL will be ‘selling’ the sport directly through our end consumer – NBL riders and tracks, and in turn, rewarding them for their efforts.
Riders will distribute the cards to their ‘buddies’ and when a ‘buddy’ redeems the card at any NBL track, both the recruiter and buddy will be entered into a huge prize draw. The program also offers incentives to tracks and recruiters for their accumulated achievements with a Grand prize draw set for September 15.
Sound good so far? It gets better. “We’ve designed a flexible program that allows each track to choose what kind of ‘event’ and award they provide to the ‘buddy’. This keeps paperwork at a minimum and allows the NBL to track the program effectively” says Jason Schiefelbein, NBL Field Director. Recruiters and ‘Buddies’ will also be able to view monthly prizing, recruiting statistics, and other exciting news through a dedicated page on our website at www.nbl.org.
The NBL is working hard to build a network of grass-roots programs that will channel potential riders to local NBL BMX tracks and with several of these programs in place, we are planning to capture the interest generated by Olympic TV and media coverage and ultimately, turn that excitement into new members. The Bring-A-Buddy program offers a fun and rewarding challenge for our members to reach out to a brand new group of potential BMX racers with the goal of increasing membership and local competition. For more information on the program contact your local track and get started today.
The program is brought to you by the National Bicycle League, Hyper Bicycles, Camp Woodward, Tangent Products, Sinz Racing Products, Vigor Helmets, and BMX Plus! Magazine.

FreeAgent/Cyclelink.com.au's AA Pro, Shannon Rademaker, is
heading to the US for the second time in 9 months. This trip is
for about 6 weeks to get some more races in, including South Park,
and do a little sight seeing. We wish Shannon a safe trip and
good luck with his racing. If you spot Shannon in the FreeAgent
colours around the tracks in the US don't forget to say G'day
for us.
by bmxultra.com
When you get excited about a road trip in the middle of the Aussie
winter that includes 3 days of solid racing...in the rain...you
start to understand that there's more to BMX than the racing.
The two meetings are fairly relaxed and encourage a great social
environment. Something that is lacking at many race meetings these
days.
Day 1 - Saturday - Australian Country Championships
The Mount Gambier track hasn't changed since last year, there
are no lips on the jumps, but the track was quite smooth. There
were only about 35-40 motos too, so numbers were definitly down
on previous years. Michael Fenwick, Ben Price, Arron Lumsden,
Luke Pretlove, Shannon Rademaker and a bunch of other AA Pros
in the 2 gate field. In A Pro 2 gates, including; Ash McCutcheon,
Danny Galea, Shane Claassen, Nick Brookes, Scott Bradley, amongst
others.
When the gate dropped in the final of the A Pro class both Galea
and McCutcheon got out ahead of the rest but McCutcheon seemed
to have the leg speed on Galea and was in front by the first corner.
Galea looked to nearly lose his bike unclipping, but managed to
pull it all together just in time to keep in front of the charging
field. McCutcheon continued on to win, Galea second, I didnt see
who placed third, Nick Brookes fourth.
In the AA Main it was Price who got the pop out of the gate, but
Fenwick came back at him like a freight train. Just after the
first roller Price ran into trouble, it looked like he'd snapped
his pedal then lost balance, with Fenwick charging past at the
same time the two bumped and had to moster truck it through the
big doubles. Lumsden took advantage on the inside and went to
the lead, with Fenwick in chase. The Gambier track has tight corners,
not leaving much room to pass, so Fenwick waited for the long
back straight and hit turbo, flying past Lumsden and taking the
win. Lumsden finished second and Pretove third.
More to come tomorrow.

Scott Bradley from Mount Gambier, he's the guy who painted
up the tiger print bike that we featured last year (below left),
has been at it again. This time he's custom painted fellow Mount
Gambier A Pro Nick Brookes' bike. When we were warned that Nick
would be off Factory Bogan with everything black, including bike
and race gear, we didn't think he was going to such an extreme.
The new paint job is Evel Knievel inspired, but we're not just
talking about a frame, the rims and hubs were painted and the
wheels were built up with colour coded spokes and nipples. The
forks were also painted up along with helmet. To finish off this
bling bling extreme make over Nick bought some matching TLD race
pants and jersey. Is this a dream machine or what? Come on...you
know you want it.
by bmxultra.com
We pulled out the camera at Mount Gambier on the weekend,
believe it or not there was hardly any rain during racing, so
don't be surprised to see the track looking dry and fast. Mike
Fenwick won both meets in AA Pro, Ash McCutcheon won both meets
in A Pro, we believe Ash has won enough money to be a AA Pro now.

Round 7 of the 2006 NBL Pro tour was held this past weekend at
the Evansville BMX track. This NBL classic super fast, super tech
track has held a lot of NBL national events in its 20 plus years
of operation, and this years event may have had some of the most
exciting Pro racing to date. Here is how Kyle Bennett and Randy
Stumpfhauser finished up the weekend:
Kyle Bennett had another weekend that had the
fans talking and will keep them talking all summer long. Kyle
won the 3 biggest events of the weekend. Day 1, Kyle smoked the
competition in the Elite men's class, taking home another huge
NBL Elite win. On Sunday, Kyle once again holeshotted the Elite
main event, adding another Sun Ringle Hole shot award to his collection,
on is way to win another Elite men's main event. With these 2
wins, Kyle should be in the lead of the NBL Pro Points title chase.
Kyle will go into the last 2 events of the NBL season looking
to keep the lead and take home another NBL #1 Pro title. Kyle's
sponsors include Free Agent, KHS, Fly Racing, Bombshell F1 Fork,
Sun Rims, Shimano, UGP, Kenda, Thomson, Utopia Eyewear, THE Products,
S & M bars, ODI, ORP, OGIO, Powerbar, Cyto Sport, and BMXpros.com.
Randy Stumpfhauser had a rough weekend in Evansville,
but by watching him in the moto's both days, you would have thought
he would be in the running for at least one win on the weekend.
On Saturday, Randy was in both the Elite men's main event and
Elite open. Outside lanes hindered the main event overall results
for Randy, as he finished up 5th in both main events. On Sunday,
things went south for Randy, as he only raced Elite men and missed
out on the main event. Look for Stumpy to rebound at next weekends
ABA national event in Rockford, IL. Randy's sponsors include GT
Bicycles, Kenda, ODI, Tangent, Sun Rims, Bombshell, Fly Racing,
Powerbar, CTI Knee Braces, OGIO, X Balm, Tool Shed, SDG, SRAM,

uncertain starter after catching a nasty stomach bug. He managed
to get it together in time to fend
off the current World 6 from Japan, to take the win. His sister
Nicole , World 3 (12 girls) caught the tail
end of the bug however, and managed to hang on for third. Better
luck in Brazil Nikki !
Alice Rika stormed away to a healthy lead in all her motos, taking
the win in her cruiser class. Her
sister Taylah showed her strength to finish up third in 15 girls.
For 11 yr old twins Madison and Alex Eruera it was great excitement as their first time racing away off home turf. Madi romped ahead to win all her motos and take out the title. Alex proved he could challenge with the best, finishing in the top 3 in each moto, and taking 3rd in the tightly fought final.
New recruit and the teams youngest superstar, James Nattrass
(9 boys), was thrilled to pull off the win in
his first international event. There’s just no stopping
him, he will certainly be back for more!

BOOTES WINS UCI Oceania Round 10 Tamworth NSW, June 10th
The Tamworth BMX Club was the host of Round 10 of the UCI World Ranking Series this past weekend in Tamworth, New South Wales. With the 10 race series coming to an end this weekend, it was a close battle between Wade Bootes, Kamakazi and Marc Willers for the Overall UCI Oceania Championship title. The weather was not looking good as it was raining through the night and all morning, it was going to be a mud race which we don’t see too much in BMX racing. The Tamworth club did a great job on the track as they made some new changes from last year. Thanks goes out to Hogs Breath Café for hosting over 100 BMX riders and families Saturday evening. Here is how the results unfolded for TeamWBR.
Bootes was looking to add points to his UCI World Ranking as he was looking comfortable and strong all day in the wet conditions. Bootes transferred out of the motos and won his semi and found himself a spot in the main event. With a great start, Bootes led the field into the first corner. Willer's popped a chain down the first straight and was out of the race, while Kamakazi was chasing down the leader. Bootes hit a soft spot in the track and lost a lot of speed going into the last corner. Kamakazi saw an opportunity to make a move and dove on the inside. Bootes was able to pump back past kama down the last straight to the take the win of the final race of the series. With this win and kama finishing second on the day did not give Bootes the overall all Oceania series Championship, but still leaves Bootes the current highest ranked Australian rider in the World. With the World Championship in Brazil next month, this is the final event for Bootes to add points to his Overall World Ranking.
Bootes will be competing at the 1st round of the Jeep King of the Mountain World Championships on his Percentage Designs Mountain bike in California is a few weeks time to hopefully regain his World title he lost to Micheal Prokolp last year.

Jye Danielson and Jeff Lawrence made the trip to Tamworth and dealt with the muddy condition the best they could. Jye finshed 3rd in the 16 boys Champ bikx event and 3rd overall for the National Series. Jeff finished 5th on the day in the 15 boys and 11th overall in the National Series.
Micheal Chasteaunuef finished 3rd in the National Champ bikx series and also qualified himself into the National Talent ID squad for 2006.
Alex Cossell is still recovering from a broken Collar bone during training a few weeks back and had to withdraw from the National Test Team to compete against the NZ test team this weekend.

BMXAustralia press release
Two of the World’s best BMX riders will battle it out in
Tamworth this weekend in the final Round of the UCI Oceania Series.
World ranked number one, Wade Bootes (Gold Coast) will line up
against number two in the World, Kamakazi (Jimboomba, QLD) on
Saturday morning in the 10th and final Round which have been held
in the Australian and New Zealand regions. It is friendly rivalry
between the two Nerang clubmates as they will both use the event
as a pre-World Championship hit out. These two are part of the
11 strong Australian team selected to compete at the World Championships
in Sao Paolo in Brazil at the end of July.
Women’s World number two, Renee Junga(Brisbane) will return from an injured shoulder to stamp her domination on the UCI Oceania Series. Junga may be challenged by current World ranked fourth rider, Tanya Bailey from Perth.
Gunnedah’s Billy Joliffe heads the local squad with a good chance of a top elite placing in both Saturday’s UCI round and Sunday’s Trans Tasman event. The 19 year old delivery driver only recently moved from to Gosford to pursue his BMX career further. Joliffe is currently ranked 9th in the UCI Oceania Series and hopes to improve his position after Saturday’s final in the series.
Joliffe competed in only six of the previous nine UCI rounds. “This year it’s meant a fair bit. I’m a bit young still. In a few years time it will crucial for me to do them all,” he explained. The current New South Wales team rider will compete at the World Championships in Brazil before returning home for the state titles in Terrigal. With BMX marking its debut at the Beijing Olympics, riders like Joliffe are looking further down the track at the London Olympics in 2012.
Tamworth boasts other top BMX riders such as Joliffe’s sister, Melissa, Ben Davis and current riders Dave Nicholls in the 45 age category down to young Benjamin Bullen-Aslin in the younger 8-10 age category.
The Tamworth BMX track has been revamped and boasts some spectacular sections including a bridge. The starting gate used by Tamworth is one of only three in Australia. It is a Tara gate start mechanism which was imported from the USA. This is the same type of starting gate riders will face at the World Championships.
The other main attraction over the weekend is the Trans Tasman Test which has attracted over 50 New Zealand riders. Now the BMXtreme event has become a cultural exchange with the New Zealand team performing the Haka before competing on Saturday afternoon. The Mighty 11’s event is now in its 18th year and it’s a highlight for riders who are 11 years old. Australian riders will then head over the New Plymouth in New Zealand in August for the rematch.
The UCI Oceania final runs from 10am to 12 noon on Saturday in conjunction with the Champbikx final. The BMXtreme events incorporating the Mighty 11’s starts at 2pm on Saturday with the finals run on Sunday.

Both the Australian Country Championships and the Victoria
Vs South Australia challenge are on in Mount Gambier this Queen's
Birthday long weekend. The two riders representing bmxultra.com
at Gambier will be our two older riders South Australia's Brett
MaliC and our Victorian based webmaster Shane Jenkins. The two
will race each other for the first time in a couple of years,
and will attempt to take a first and second place in the 30 &
Over money cruiser class, known in Australia as "Bruiser
cruiser". Each year the class gets tougher and tougher, the
track and the potentially wet conditions at Mount Gambier this
time of year could well determine who will get to the finish line
first. We will be sure to get some photos of the weekends action
for you all.
We will have a few copies of the BSX2006 DVD with us at Gambier,
they are $20 each. They are also available through Ronnie Guyers
in South Australia.
We are lead to believe that the popular Wolfman from Adelaide
will be causing havoc at Mount Gambier. Rumour is he's on the
prowl for a foxy lady.

Maris Strombergs, also from Latvia (and the same club), had the

Jason Bergstrom was on holidays for a week, at the beach
surfing, when he was contacted by the Stile Industries guys. They
were holding a clinic at the Cleveland TN track. There would be
a young deaf rider that was just starting out and they thought
that Jason could help him out. You see Jason is also deaf, you
can carry a normal conversation with him, he can hear with his
hearing aids, he can also lip read, but it was his sign language
skills that the Stile Industries guys thought might come in handy.
Anyway Jason left his holidays 2 days early to help out. The thing
was the kid didn't show. So since he had already traveled and
cut his holidays short Jason pulled out the camera and the bike
and made a day of it.
The
photos in this set are from the ABA Race for Life and the Stile
Industries clinic held at the Cleveland TN track, click here to

We stumbled across New Zealand's own World #2 Sarah Walker's
website over the weekend. It's a pretty cool site, with a funky
design that's very easy to navigate. Most importantly Sarah is
keeping a travel journal that she's updating regularly. It seems
that she updates it more than any other pro rider in the Oceanic
region so she's obviously having fun with it, but that said, it
will be interesting to see how long she can keep it up.
Some other things you will find on her site are profiles, photos,
poles, Sarah's results, her favourite links and more.
Check it out at www.sarahwalker96.com.

TeamWBR press release
The Hills BMX Club was the host of Round 9 of the UCI World Ranking
Series this past weekend in Perth , Western Australia . With the
10 race series coming to an end a lot of riders turned up to grab
some final points for the year. The weather was on the chilly
side due to an early start but other than that it was perfect
and the same goes for the track. Here is how the results unfolded
for TeamWBR.
Bootes was looking to regain the lead of the UCI World ranking series as he was looking strong all day. In the semi Bootes was lucky to stay up as Tiger Robinson jumped the triple and landed on his arm which saw Tiger hit the ground hard. With Jamie Gray also having an unlucky slide out while leading the other semi in the first corner, this was the first time that the National High Performance Team did not make the final. The final still had the top 3 points leader’s on the gate which saw Bootes take the holeshot. Willer tried a few times to dive on Bootes but had to settle for second. Kamakasi had a slow start and finished in 4th while Brian Kirkham took his first podium finish of the series. With Bootes taking the win this moves him back on top of the UCI World Ranking series which there is only 1 Oceania race remaining at Tamworth in a 2 weeks time and the UCI BMX World Championship in Brazil July 29th.
UCI ELITE Men Results
1 Wade Bootes – TeamWBR 2 Marc Willers, 3 Brian Kirkham
4 Kamakasi, 5 Bill Hobbs, 6 Ben Brice, 7 Tony Wilcock, 8 Jonathon
Hoare
Current UCI World Ranking Points Overall
1 Wade Bootes AUS 72 (Oceania 68)
2 Kamakazi AUS 70
