After nearly seven years working for US based multi-national software company, ManageSoft, my employment came to an abrupt end in a short phone call this morning. ManageSoft has been amazing in the terms of helping me shape my career as a web developer, and they have been the biggest supporter of the BSX events in the past two years. I also had the opportunity to compete in ABA and NBL races over the past two years when races aligned with business trips. But with new management, new directions and tightening of budgets I was let go. I would love to thank all those people from ManageSoft that have helped me through the years and many have become close friends.
I will start looking for a new job today, but if any of you know someone in the market for a web guru have them contact me. I am up for contract work too while I am looking for a job, I have plenty of time on my hands right now.
Anyone who has my work email address please use the webmaster@bmxultra.com address for now on.
Stephen Murray is a BMX Athlete that could use help from the BMX community. Stephen is a professional dirt jumper that is well known for his amazing tricks like double back flips, 360 back flips, turndown back flips and so much more.
Stephen Murray came to the United States from New Castle Great Britain over 10 years ago with a dream of riding with the best athletes in the sport. He came over here originally as a BMX racer but quickly took to Dirt Jumping and Freestyle in the scene of Huntington Beach and Sheep Hills.
2001 and 2002 marked the biggest year for Stephen Murray of his career. He won the Gold Medal in Dirt Jumping at X Games and back to back wins at the Gravity Games, the two biggest contests at the time.
Stephen is quoted on his own riding style, “I go 110%, go big and send it!” (EXPN.com)
On Friday June 22nd at the AST Dew Tour BMX Dirt Finals in Baltimore, MD, Stephen Murray took a horrific fall on the final set of the dirt section while sending a double back flip. Stephen has received career ending injuries to his spinal cord and vertebrae.
Unlike the NFL or other major professional sports which have unions that provide funds to athletes who are injured, BMX has nothing like this. BMX however is much more like a family than any other sport. Now is the time we need to reach out and support one of our family members like never before.
The injuries that Stephen sustained are no doubt going to affect him for a life time. Medical bills alone can reach astronomical dollar amounts. As a BMX community we have the power to help him. Stephen is a young 27 years old and is the financial provider for a wife and two young children.
This message has the potential to reach millions. Even if you are only able to donate $1 if we did it all together we can accomplish a great deal. This is for real, this is an opportunity to help out one of the most loved riders in our sport. Please find it in your hearts to contribute any dollar amount that you can, and say a prayer for Stephen Murray and his family in this difficult time.
Here are three ways you can contribute:
Email StephenMurrayFund@hotmail.com with the dollar amount you would like to contribute. You will then receive an email back with the invoice that leads you directly to a Pay Pal Secure account where you can pay by credit card or bank account number.

The title - Motivated - may indeed be an understatement. Stronger words for the top “extreme” athletes profiled in this series might include “obsessed,” “possessed,” “adrenaline-hooked,” “fixated” and “consumed.”
Whatever the mix of fascinating passions motivating them, Motivated is a must-see for anyone wishing to understand the innate human attraction to risk and boundary-pushing for fame and glory.
A biography series analyzing the incredible lives of the world’s top extreme athletes, Motivated devotes each 60-minute episode to the story of a champion, from childhood to the present. Experiences, influences and compulsions are offered up as ingredients in the complicated soup of personality that leads each week’s subject to the elite in their sport. Each episode is jam-packed with character, drama, high energy action, and inspiration.
Season One of Motivated includes an episode on the life of legendary BMX hero, Bubba Harris. Bubba is the reigning ABA National Number One Pro for three years running, ABA World Champion for the past two years, and is gunning for an Olympic gold medal as part of Team USA in the very first BMX competition in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
In addition to spending time in California and Arizona with Bubba, his family, his coaches, and his role models, the series will show Bubba in action at the ABA Las Vegas Nationals in Las Vegas, NV. Viewers will have the opportunity to see a side of Bubba no one has ever seen before – the discipline, determination, and dedication that helped him overcome all the odds and obstacles to become one of the best BMX riders in the history of the sport.
Motivated will air nationally on Rush HD Canada and Rush HD US.

Evansville, IN
We arrived at Evansville (an NBL race) on thursday evening.
Again we camped at the track, this was more like a caravan park
as it had a toilet and shower we placed ourselves in a quite but
beautiful place near the woods.
The Evansville track has a short first and second straight then it works its way into a couple of really fast downhill sections to finish up with a final straight rhythm. I loved the track, the fast downhill sections meant I could jump the bigger jumps and I liked the way it flowed.
Ziggy's class size was disappointingly small, however one of the girls from Rockford was there. I think her name was Rachael Smith and she was quick. They had some good battles in the motos Zig coming out on top 2 out of the 3 times. In the NBL system if there is not a full gate you don't race on points you drop the last person out of the final and race a deadman final. In the final Zig got the holeshot and every straight Rachael tried pushing past. On the final downhill section (where you are really flying) they locked handlebars and Rachael went into the lead. However Zig recovered and gathered momentum through the last berm and flew past her in the final rhythm. It was one of those races that the commentator was almost at a yell at the end cause it was so exciting.
Ziggy's numbers may have been down in her class but not so in Michael's class 17-24 expert. They had quarter finals and it seems to be an amazingly fast class. Still Michael enjoyed being back at more familiar gate call and easily won his motos. He rode really well in his quarter final. In the semi he got a good gate and I was videoing and the track isn't great for videoing so I lost what happened in the 1st corner. He told me later that he was running 2nd then a couple of guys came and held him up he emerged 5th. He had heaps more speed than the 4th placed guy and would have easily run him down in the final rhythm however the guy heard him coming pulled across and ran Michael off the track. He looked quick and was looking forward to doing it again on Sunday.
Joel again joined in with us this time he camped in our little group. They didn't have a superclass (A pro) so he raced pro open. He looked great around the track but couldn't keep with them out of the gate therefore he didn't progress to the semi. You really notice how quick the guys here are out of the gate. Lots of people do big slingshots and they really fly. I raced and I was disappointed to only have 9 guys. When racing started I couldn't believe how fast they all were and they all race the motos really hard as the last person is dropped from each moto. I got 2 2nds and a 3rd. In the Final I had lane 1 Josh had told me what was wrong with my gates so I got a good gate and pulled into the lead and got the win I was really happy as they were really fast.
Josh didn't race so as to rest his shoulder. He is hoping it'll be OK for South Park as it sound like it's a track that would suit him. After racing it started to rain and basically didn't stop all night. They have plastic and they cover every bit of the track. The surface is basically all made of clay it would be unridable in the rain, so they cancelled the 2nd day. It meant that their all important NBL series point are doubled. Great for Zig as she picked up 2 wins and payouts. Not so good for Michael and Joel as there are no refunds and the entry fees are high $50 for age and $65 for pro.

I had an interesting conversation about the future of extravagant
frame design with a friend of mine in the bicycle industry, he's
a product manager for a BMX brand. He said that those days are
gone and the price of cheaper complete bikes these days is the
source. I mean look at last years world championships in the elite
class final. Javier Columbo, on a stock SE frame, took a narrow
win over Randy Stumphauser, on a stock GT frame, that's proof
enough to me that you don't need the big bucks bikes to be the
best. The advantages of a high end frame with hand picked parts,
for the most of us, are out weighed simply by the price of the
complete bikes.
We have all seen the extravagant frames with the hefty price tags. Just take the new GT full carbon monocoque frame due for release shortly. And what about the Avent Morpheus and FMF frames that also incorporate carbon technology. Supercross have their EVO S-7 Scandium which has allowed them to build possibly the lightest pro frames on the market. With an XL weighing it an just 2.65lbs. While they might help future developments in technology and design, their price tags limit the number of items sold. And quite simply those companies aren't going to survive on the sales of those products alone. They will rely on cheaper frames and complete bikes in their range with the same or similar geometry.
So if the days are gone why are companies still pumping out the frames? I would guess that they are trying to get an edge with the Olympics coming up. If all frames basically looked the same on TV no brand will stand out, but get a few riders on a GT carbon monocoque and you have yourself a frame that looks different. GT will just have to hope that the riders can make an impact on them. So someone getting into the sport after watching the Olympics will say I want one of those monocoque bikes I saw on the Olympics, sees the price tag, but then is shown a bike lower in the range that's more inline with their budget. The thing is it creates a brand awareness, which is what marketing is all about.
Once the Olympics are gone what will happen? Well only time will tell. Personally I believe that the Olympics won't have a huge impact on the BMX race scene, but I am happy to be proven otherwise. If nothing else it will help sell more affordable bikes.

I thought I would drop a line to tell the readers of ultra
about my injury.
In December I had a cartlilage removed from my knee and regrown in a lab for 6 weeks then regrafted back into my knee it is a bit like a reconstruction and I am slowly rebuilding my strength in my knee.
With gym and exercise bike it is coming good the surgeon said I should be able ride my bmx in September and boy can I hardly wait its funny you take for granted racing until you sustain a injury and then you really miss the Sport.
I can hardly wait to race the old boys again in Holywood Simma .President Lacey.Stirrer Hunter.Old Man Anderson and the rest of the motley crew Ha.Ha.

NBL press release
NBL Expands Marketing Department - Kristin Siebenlist joins the
NBL as Communications Coordinator
Hilliard, Ohio - The National Bicycle League (NBL) has expanded
their Marketing Department and is pleased to announce the addition
of Kristin Siebenlist as the new Communications Coordinator. Siebenlist,
who has a strong background in the industry with years of race
experience, joins the NBL at an exciting time and will work directly
with the marketing department to fulfill ongoing commitments and
several new initiatives.
With the sport’s transition into the 2008 Olympic program, Kristin is excited to be a part of the transformation of BMX through the many exciting programs the NBL offers. Providing our members and sponsors with the best resources is important to Siebenlist as she begins her stay with the NBL. “I’ve been racing bikes for half my life and I am excited to be able to give back to the sport at a time where I have so much to give. The NBL is such a positive reflection of BMX and I find it an honor to be a part of their team,” states Siebenlist.
Kristin began racing mountain bikes when she was young, which progressed into road racing and to track cycling in college. She picked up BMX as a means to stay in shape during the off-season of track and it has since turned into a full-time passion. NBL’s Marketing Director eagerly added, “Kristin is a welcome addition and her talents will help the NBL strengthen the bond we have with our tracks, members and industry. In addition to her design and marketing background, Kristin brings with her, youth and experience, which promises to have a positive impact on the future of the NBL.” The NBL has some surprises in store for 2008 and Kristin will play a key role in the marketing of the NBL and most importantly, the sport of BMX.
The National Bicycle League sanctions local, state, and national levels of BMX racing across the country and Puerto Rico and is the proud host of eight 2008 UCI North American Series events. Well most of the Australian squad are now in the US preparing
for the upcoming UCI World Championships and Supercross events.
They will be hitting up a couple of NBL races while they are there.
It's good to see that Warwick Stevenson is back on the bike and
was getting amongst it at Rockford over the weekend. Warwick managed
a sixth in pro open on Saturday and a fifth in the pro open on
the Sunday.
Also in the US are Josh and Ziggy Callan travelling with their father Damien, Michael Vockenson and now Joel Kugener too.
Here's a Rockford update from Damien:
"We have just had the best weekend of racing we have had in ages. We are at Rockford, which is an ABA race. The track is not technical however it is so fast and sooooo smooth. They finish the track with something, which gives it a super smooth finish, and then add a lite texture of a sandpaper type substance in case it rains. Whatever it is it’s amazing.
The competition is likewise amazing they have novice, intermediate and expert classes and there were about 220 motos. The depth of fast riders is amazing as long as we have been to world titles Tori Nyghua (sorry don’t know how to spell it) from Canada has won the year younger than Josh’s class, today he didn’t transfer past the semi. All our guys rode really well Zig made both days of finals in girls pro, they run a 3 final final here and Zig really struggled with the ABA call and left consistently late. The girls here are really fast so it mades it really hard. On the second day in the 1st final she did get an ok gate and pulled a 3rd but then crashed in the 2nd final. Both days she ended up 6th.
Michael rode really well on both days in the 17-18 expert class, but he also struggled with the gate. The racers tend to stay in their age class, as it is such a prestigious thing to win an ABA title. Michael went out in the quarter he had plenty of track speed but at this level if you miss the gate it is over, he rode really well.
Josh had less trouble than Michael and Zig and progressed to both days’ finals. On day one he placed 3rd and on Sunday placed 5th.
Joel Kugener has been travelling with us since Rockford. He is really nice guy and he is riding really well he made the A men final on the 2nd day after just missing out on Saturday. I think he finished up around 6th. [Editor: The ABA site says 2nd, but BMXmania.com says 8th, either was still a great effort]"
Josh has injured his shoulder at some dirt jumps when he came up sort, nothing is broken just really bad bruising, but he will be sitting out of racing this coming weekend.

CONSTRUCTION OF THE OLYMPIC BMX TRACK COMPLETED
The UCI track building team just recently finalized the second
stage of the Olympic track construction in Beijing, China. The
track is now laid out and the 3rd stage of the construction is
merely dress up and final touch which is going to be made within
the next few months.
Over 10,000 m3 of high-quality soil was used during the 3 week long construction. The track features both a Men and a Women straight-aways, allowing the design to be purpose build.
“This is by far the biggest track construction we ever build” says UCI track builder Tom Ritzenthaler. “Not only does the track feature some massive turns and jumps, but we have focused on making it very wide to allow for better racing.” continues Ritzenthaler. “it is one thing seeing the track in a 3D drawing, but to see its coming alive is amazing. I’m sure that the athletes will be excited once they see it in real life” ends Ritzenthaler.
The track will be officially tested during the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup, to be held 20-21 August 2007. That will be the one and only time the track will be open for riding before the Olympic Games.
“This is an amazing track and venue; it is definitely of Olympic standard” says Johan Lindstrom, UCI Technical Delegate for the Olympic Games. “We wanted to bring BMX to the next level in the inaugural Olympic BMX event, and this has by far reached new heights of BMX track and venue design. The Olympic organizer BOCOG has really put a lot of effort into this venue, and the outcome is surreal. This place has everything, including an elevator going from the Olympic velodrome to the BMX venue.” continues Lindstrom.

of the 2008 Olympic Games track at the World Cycling Centre.
With the help of the official suppliers; Caterpillar Rental Store, Layher© scaffolding, Pro-Gate© and Murphy Productions Inc, the track has been completed under the month of April, making it available for the UCI high-level training athletes and any team wishes to come and train from beginning of May 2007.
“This BMX track is truly unique and the only one of its kind in the world, with its 8 meter high start ramp and same track design that will be used in the 2008 Olympic Games” says Johan Lindstrom, UCI BMX Sports Coordinator. “Any teams or riders that are serious about the Olympic Games, needs to have spend time on this track, no question about it” continues Lindstrom.
“The track is as close as you can get to the design of the Olympic BMX track, although with some jumps being designed more for training purposes than for racing” says Tom Ritzenthaler, UCI track builder. “To see some of the best riders on this track just put a smile to my face, it is that cool” finishes Ritzenthaler.
The track is app. 300 meters long, featuring an 8 meter high start ramp followed by two individual straight-aways (for Men and Women).
We are especially proud of the start ramp construction, which has been designed first and foremost with riders’ performance in mind” says UCI project leader Matti Notlind. “This design will now become the standard for upcoming UCI BMX Supercross World Cup’s and obviously the Olympic Games” continues Notlind.
The World Cycling Centre can now offer one of the most complete training facilities in the world to National Teams and Trade teams. In addition to the BMX track, the World Cycling Centre has gym facilities, velodrome track, indoor BMX start gate, restaurant and accommodation near by. Interested teams are asked to contact UCI, to receive all necessary details. Teams wishing to book the facility, please contact UCI on bmx@uci.ch. Formula Bicycles press release
Rockford, Illinois – Once again, the ABA steamed its way
into Illinois for the annual Mid-West Nationals at the legendary
Rockford BMX facility just outside of Chicago. With its long first
straight and infamous first turn, the stage was set for another
classic battle at the “Rock”. Factory Formula / Monster
Energy / Fly Racing riders Alise Post, current and reigning National
#1 Women’s Pro, A Pro Warren McDow, 17 Expert phenom Lee
Lewis, Vet Pro Tim Dinger, 13 Expert Andre Norles and Formula
sponsored Arielle Martin were all ready to put it into high gear
and show the BMX world what Formula is all about. The team also
debuted their sharp, new Factory Team jerseys to rave reviews.
Special thanks goes out to Dave Marrietti at the Hot Shoppe for
going the extra mile.
Alise Post – Women’s Pro – Solution Pro Minus Hybrid – Alise came into the race with a healthy points lead in her bid to a sophomore year repeat of her #1 Pro title. All day long on Saturday she felt like she was having some difficulty don the first and last straights with none of her usual first straight power. Saturday she still made the podium with a respectable third place finish. Just before mains on Sunday, during some routine bike maintenance, it was discovered that instead of running the 15 rear cog that she normally ran, she was actually running a 16, a crazy small gear! After throwing on the correct setup, Alise went on to win 2 of her 3 mains but a crash in the third kept her from the top of the podium and she had to settle for a second. Alise will be back at the ABA Salt Lake race, this time with the correct gear!
Arielle Martin – Women’s Pro – Solution Pro – Arielle has been sidelined for the past 6 months with a knee injury sustained at the NBL’s Christmas Classic. She is finally coming back to the track and in just her second race back, has already found the top of the podium. Arielle grabbed a win on Sunday and a nice second on Saturday. Still not 100%, look for tons more podium finishes for Arielle this year.
Warren McDow – A Pro – Solution Pro Plus – Warren is also coming back to the track after a long hiatus. In his first race back, McDow looked a bit rusty but still had his trademark first straight pull. Warren had a nice podium finish on Saturday and was on his way to a win on Sunday, but he slid out in the first turn, another McDow patented move! Just kidding McD, you know we got you man!
Tim Dinger – Vet Pro – Solution Pro XL – Dinger had a sort of homecoming in Rockford, having lived in the area for years. This time he came back as a full fledged Formula / Monster / Fly Factory rider to do the hometown fans proud. Dinger had a crash first round main on Saturday and had to settle for a 6th. Sunday, same deal and settled for 7th. Dinger is still in third place in NBL Elite Master’s points, and look for him at the World Championships in Canada.
Lee Lewis – 17 Expert – Solution Pro – Lee has been the most dominant rider in the 17-18 Expert class all year. Just coming off his National Silver Medal Junior Men’s finish in Michigan the week prior, Lee was ready to set the record straight on who he felt deserved the Gold. Lewis dominated on Sunday with a double going away in 17-18 Expert and in 17-24 Open. Sunday he was plagued with gate problems all day and we can all just forget about Sunday! Look for Lee in Junior men’s at the World’s next month.
Andre Norles – 13 Expert – Solution Expert Plus – Norles made the trip from Kansas City to show some Mid west pride and give the locals someone to cheer. In one of the more controversial races of the weekend, Andre grabbed himself a podium finish with a nice second place on Sunday to match his third place from Saturday.

Gone are the days of going to the motorcross store to buy some
knee shin guards for BMX racing. While the MX guards are highly
protective, they are designed for MX, they usually are secured
at the bottom in a boot and you don't need to pedal in them. You
would find there is a lot of movement if you tried to use them
for BMX racing.
On the other hand the mountain bike industry has cranked out a whole range of knee/shin guards that could be used for racing BMX. They are designed to be used while pedalling. There are a whole bunch of manufacturers out there including THE, Fox, Dainese, Race Face, 661 and so on. You will find they have made their guards for specific use, working with different riders and different ideas. But basically there are race guards, and free ride guards, all of which would be fine for racing.
At bmxultra.com we have been working on a knee/shin guard shootout for the past few weeks, trying out a whole range of guards to see what works well. Number one item on the agenda is to discover which guards provide the most protection and which ones are the best value for money. While we haven't got our hands on all the guards available we have a pretty good cross section.
The shootout will be spread over the next month with the first of two parts by next week. If you are in the market for some knee/shin guards keep your eyes peeled.

Round 8 of the 2007 ABA Pro Series headed to the Rock this past
weekend. The Rockford track is one of, if not the best BMX
Racing tracks in the USA for high speed racing action. Rockford
has always been smooth, but this year, the track operators outdid
themselves. With a silky smooth surface and glass like paved berms,
the track without dust is highly rated by the Pros. Beautiful
weather, was interrupted for a brief moment on Saturday, but other
than that, the Hot and sticky weather emulated the race action. Here is
how the BMXpros.com Pros finished up:
Randy Stumpfhauser has had the best ABA season of his Pro Career in 2007 and he holds a huge lead in the Pro Points chase. Randy went into Rockford eager to build his lead and on the way had time to do a clinic on Wednesday at the track with teammate Eric Rupe. 30 riders were excited to get tips for Stumpy and were even more excited to see him race AA Pro on Saturday. Well, Stumpy didn't let his fans down, as he impressed everyone at the Rock, as he took the AA Pro win. On Sunday, Randy was once again on the Podium, this time with a 3rd. After this weekend, Randy has a firm control of the ABA Pro title points chase. Randy's sponsors include GT Bicycles, Kenda, SINZ Racing, ODI, Tangent, Sun Rims, Bombshell, Fly Racing, Powerbar, CTI Knee Braces, OGIO, SDG, SRAM, Cyto Sport, and BMXpros.com.
Kyle Bennett has flat out impressed every Pro on the tour, with his incredible comeback from major knee surgery. Kyle looks like he never missed a day as his super fast first strait away speed was showcased in Rockford. On Saturday, it was Kyle giving Stumpy a run for the win, finishing just behind him in 2nd. On Sunday, Kyle looked faster than ever, and finished with a huge Pro double, winning AA Pro and Pro Open. This guy is just unbeatable. Kyle is looking to carry this momentum towards his quest at the NBL title in a few weeks, as he will be one of the top Pros in South Park. Kyle's sponsors include Free Agent, KHS, Fly Racing, Bombshell, www.bmxtraining.com, Sun Rims, Shimano, UGP, Kenda, Thomson, S & M bars, ODI, ORP, Powerbar, Cyto Sport, and BMXpros.com.
Cristian Becerine also has had an increasable season, as he currently leads the NBL Pro title chase and sits in 4th in the ABA Pro Points battle. On Saturday, Cristian took the lead in the Pro Open main event and was never contested on his way to another win. On Sunday, Cristian settled for a 2nd in Pro Open just behind Kyle and a 6th in AA Pro. Cristian is gearing up for South park, looking to hold off a hard charging field of Elite Pros on his way to his first NBL #1 Pro title. Cristian's Sponsors include: Free Agent, Answer, Kenda, THE Products, ODI, Sun Ringle, Shimano, Powerbar, Cyto Sport, OGIO, Oakley, Thomson Seat Posts, and BMXpros.com
Joey Bradford wasn't in Rockford, as he is in Europe competing in a few events, as well as putting on some clinics. If you want to keep up top date, check out Joey's website, www.joeybradofrd.com and check his journal. Joey’s sponsors include GT Bicycles, Fly Racing, Oakley, Bombshell, THE Products, Sun Ringle, Kenda, SDG, FSA, Sponsorhouse, ODI, Powerbar, Cyto Sport, Circle E, SRAM, Kore, OGIO, Sirius, Pearl Izumi, joeybradford.com, and BMXpros.com

Every year, over the Queen's Birthday long weekend, the Blue
Lake BMX Club at Mount Gambier host the Daktari Australian Country
Championships and the Victoria Vs South Australia interstate challenge.
It's usually quite cold an wet, which is no real surprise since
the Queen's Birthday weekend marks the official opening of the
snow skiing season in Australia, but it's been on the dry side
for the past two years, 2007 made it the 3rd dry year in a row.
The promise of dry weather wasn't enough to attract the big name
pros that the long weekend has attracted in the past. Names like
Darren Hawkins, Tiger Robinson, Khalen Young, Mike Fenwick, Tony
Harvey, Brian Kirkham, Ben Price, have all attended the race,
but with the chase for UCI points at Lake Maquarie being an important
race on the pro calendar the UCI points out weigh the fine event
the Blue Lake club put on. That doesn't change the fact that it's
still a raced that's marked as a must do on my calendar.
The track is always in good order, especially given the time of the year and the amount of rain they get in Gambier around that time. There is always a friendly atmosphere, not only do people huddle together under team/club tents and chat but there's a lot of mingling not to forget the heckling from the race callers. The canteen put on a great feast and the club always has post race social events organised.
The change of format for 2007 was a welcomed one, just two days of racing instead of the three giving people a chance to head home or stick around an extra day and check out Mount Gambier and it's surrounds.
Saturday: the Daktari Australian Country Championships
A Pro men, drew just enough for three gates. In the main it was
all Justin Myers, followed closely by Aaron Wheatland, then a
close charge by local riders Karl Ballintyen and Zac Lennon who
finished in third and fourth.
AA Pro men had two gates of riders. Luke Elliot had the best points after the motos were done, but Olivier Hoarau got the pop and didn't look back. Justin Braybon slotted into second and Luke Elliott into third. Brock Tuckerman settled for fourth. Luke Pretlove who looked a little under the weather stayed clear of carnage and finished fifth. Anthony Dean finished sixth. I didn't see what happened to Londema and McCutcheon but they came in in seventh and eighth.
Pro women had just one gate when the racing was done, just one point seperated first and second, it was Erin Anderson taking her first win in pro women ahead of Prue Harvey. Chantelle Dean finished in third, followed by Tahnee Rowe.
30 & Over Open wheel was dominated by Danny Galea, winning all his motos to take the win ahead of Shane Jenkins who finished second and Jamie Bullows in third.
Sunday: Vic Vs SA
A Pro men, drew just enough for three gates. In the main it looked
like Justin Myers would take it out, but he came unstuck allowing
Aaron Wheatland to take the lead and finish in first, he was followed
by local Karl Ballintyne and Josh Eden finished in third.
AA Pro men had two gates of riders. In the main Olivier Hoarau would have had to have been the favourite after his outstanding win on Saturday, but it all went wrong for him when he clipped out on the gate. He would have to play catch up. Ash McCutcheon jumped out in front and took the lead going into the first corner with Londema in tow, but Londema managed to get past McCutcheon and a big tangle in the middle of field on the third corner allowed Justin Braybon into third and Hoarau pulled up into fourth. Connor Hunter finished fifth in his first AA Pro main. Brock Tuckerman who was in the mix until his front wheel washed out going too low in the second corner picked himself up and finished sixth. Anthony Dean finished seventh and Luke Elliott in eighth.
Pro women had just one gate, Erin Anderson followed up her win on Saturday with a second win, she was challenged by Prue Harvey who finished second overall, but had the legs to take the overall. The racing in the pro women's class was so close, you could throw a blanket over them in the first half of the track. Tahnee Rowe took third and Amber Wheatland took fourth.
30 & Over cruiser class was again dominated by Danny Galea, winning all his motos to take the win ahead of Jamie Bullows who finished second and Shane Jenkins in third.
The Victorian's took the win over the South Australian's for 2007.
bmxultra.com press release
Team bmxultra.com riders Shane Jenkins and Jamie Bullows
headed to Mount Gambier for the Queen's Birthday long weekend
in June. Jenkins and Bullows don't often race together but when
they do you can guarantee they will put on a show trying to out
do each other.
At the Australian Country Championships hosted by the Blue Lake BMX Club on Saturday the track was dry and fast, although a little rough. Jenkins and Bullows were in the 30 & Over open wheel class. It was Jenkins who got the upper hand this time around, finishing second behind Danny "Thunder" Galea. Bullows in third.
On Sunday in the 30 and over cruiser class of the Victoria Vs South Australia Challenge the track was much smoother. Galea had the racing under control again with Jenkins and Bullows fighting for second and third. It came down to the last round of motos to figure out who would get second. Jenkins got the jump but Bullows high lowed in the third corner and managed to get underneath Jenkins to take the second overall. Jenkins finished with a third.
The bmxultra.com team would like to thank Mount Gambier for a great weekend of racing.

European Championship for Junior and Elite Men and Women in Valmiera,
Latvia.

ONE KENDA press release
Round 7 and 8 of the European Championship for Junior/Elite
Men and Women were held in Valmiera, Lavia.
We flew all the way to Latvia, hoping to have a great race again,
just like we had a few years ago at the same location…..and
guess what, we were not dissapointed. Awesome track once again,
wonderful audience and great racing on a super fast track.
For those who didn’t go there…..you missed the best
race so far this year ! Racing can’t get better then this.
Round 1
In Junior Women, the leader in the ranking Magalie Pottier
from France had to maintain her first position in the ranking.
Joyce Seesing from Holland wanted to move up
in the ranking.
In the main Magalie got 1st, with Joyce in 3rd.
In Junior Men Toms Skujins from Latvia was smoking
the competition on his home track.
Toms won his first round in his first year in Junior Men.
In Elite Women only Aneta Hladikova from Czech
Republic made it to the main.
Blandine crashed in the semi.
Aneta wanted to overtake World Champion Willy
Kanis in the 2nd turn but hit the rear wheel and crashed, which
brought Aneta an 8th place.
In Elite Men the Latvians Maris Strombergs and
Arturs Matisons were looking to move up in the ranking
after their results in Switzerland.
Maris Strombergs looked so fast that many thought
he would win the main. Unfortunaltely Maris clipped
out in the quarters and only Arturs made it to
the main.
On his home track, Arturs showed he knew every
inch of the track and rode his ONE to his first
European victory this year.
Round 2
Motos only this time.
So in fact Joyce and Magalie had
to run three mains.
Magalie was leading the first moto, but crashed
on the last straight.
Joyce took the win and the same thing happened
in the last moto…Magalie crashed and Joyce
won overall. Magalie took 4th.
Magalie is still in 1st place in the ranking,
Joyce in 3rd.
Toms Skujins didn’t suffer from any celebrations
the nigfht before.
Once again he was superfast and his 2nd win in Junior Men.
This made Toms move up the ranking to 2nd place.
In Elite Women both ONE/Kenda
riders made it to the main.
Blandine Cottereau got 5th, and Aneta
Hladikova took 4th.
Blandine is now 5th in the ranking, while Aneta
is still in 1st place.
Both Arturs Matisons and Maris Strombergs
made it to the main and could do real good for the ranking.
Somehow it seemed Arturs and Maris hit eachother
on the first straight, making Maris dropped back
a few bike lengths and giving the lead the Martijn Scherpen from
Holland.
Arturs tried to get closer and passed him but
track was just not long enough.
Arturs got 2nd. Maris took 7th.
PIT rider Edzus Treimanis made
his first main in Elite Men and took 4th.
Arturs is now in 2nd overall, Maris
dropped to 7th place.
Next race, round 9 and 10 in Holland

Formula Bicycle Company press release
Waterford Oaks, Michigan – If there’s a title
to be sorted out, you can bet that Factory Formula / Monster Energy
/ Fly Racing’s Donny Robinson will probably take it.
He grabbed just about all of them in ’06 and now he has
made history by taking the first ever Elite Men’s National
Championship title. With the Olympics approaching, this
title is ever important and is the first step towards every BMX
athlete’s Olympic dreams.
Donny made the trip to Michigan and was feeling good about his chances. In the main, dR was stuck in lane 8 and Matt Pohlkamp pretty much shut down every pass attempt Donny threw at him. With a move reminiscent of last year’s NBL Grands, he passed Matt through the Pro section to take the lead and the win. The video is posted on the Formula Bicycles website, click HERE to check it out. Also make sure to check out the Formula Rider Journal to hear what dR has to say about his big win in his own words. Click HERE to check out dR's journal entry.
Lee Lewis also made the trip to Michigan and it was a worthwhile one. Lee had some trouble with the UCI gate but made the most of it with a Silver Medal finish. Lee’s video is also up on the Formula site as well as Formula’s Myspace page – www.myspace.com/formulabicyclecompany.
Next up for nearly the entire Formula team is the ABA Mid West
Nationals in Rockford, Illinois. Look for Donny, National
#1 Women’s Pro Alise Post, Lee Lewis, Vet Pro Tim Dinger,
Andre Norles, and the return of Warren McDow to competition.

Joey Bradford went into the USAC National Championships with an
unbeaten record at the 2007 NBL Junior Elite Events and he looked
towards this weekend to take home 2 more wins.
As the Junior Elite Class is age 17-18 year old racers, its boast
some tough competition and Joey knew it would be no easy task
to win. As the motos raced out, Joey was once again going into
the main event unbeaten and ready to claim the first ever USA
National Championship for the Junior Men. As the gate dropped,
he had the holeshot and lead until the 2nd jump where, he came
unclipped and regulated to almost last place. Joey got clipped
back and was able to catch up to 3rd place, but there wasn't enough
track for him to catch the fast duo of Nick Long and Lee the Flea.
Joey finished 3rd.
In the Junior Cruiser Class, Joey would come back and win the
title. Not as satisfying to him and the Junior Elite title, but
still capturing a piece of BMX history, Joey was happy and ready

BMX Australia press release
Race officials at this weekends International BMX race
were determined to conduct racing in Newcastle despite the
region being declared a disaster zone. Riders from Australia,
New Zealand and Hong Kong braved fallen trees, fallen power lines
and floodwaters to ride the final UCI Oceania-Pacific Round.
Its a UCI event, we cant cancel it although we could have postponed it, said Chief Commissaire, Andy Mellish. The track held up really well considering the amount of rain that had fallen. All we needed was a generator for the start gate.
New Zealands Sarah Walker proved her number one world ranking was justified by winning all three elite women's races. In the final race, Perths Nicole Callisto challenged her midfield but Walker proved too strong. The 18 year old wins the overall series and will now prepare for the World Championships in Canada at the end of July. Australias National Champion, Tanya Bailey from Perth finished in third place but had ample points to place second in the overall series.
Australias Luke Madill dominated the mens final race winning by three bike lengths. The 27 year old from Penrith, near Sydney, saved his energy during the earlier heats as the heavy rain soaked track sapped the strength of many top riders.
I tried to make it a little bit easier in the qualifying runs and have something left in the final, explained Madill.
Ive been training really hard and this is the last race before the Worlds so it was a good little test for me.
Its a good confidence booster, he added.
Madill will now focus his attention on building a replica of the 2008 Beijing Olympic track. Work starts this weekend on the track which features an eight metre starting ramp.
New Zealands Marc Willers was relegated to third place just narrowly beaten by Liverpools Alex Cameron. Willers had ample points to retain the overall series lead making it another New Zealand triumph. Australia's National Champion, Khalen Young placed a creditable fourth and finishes second overall.in the series. Madill's win gives him third overall.
Local favourite, Billy Joliffe was unlucky to finish eighth. Joliffe summed up the weather. Weve had about 10 inches of rain in two days. The tracks held up alright, he said.
Weve had a lot of wind and a lot trees on the road. Theres been carnage and Ive never seen this much rain in my life.
The junior mens race was won by Lake Macquaries Christopher Westwood but Terrigal's Joshua Webb's second place gave him the overall series win while Westwood ends up fourth in the series. Nerang's Steven Janssen placed third in the final race but maintains second place overall in the series. Adelaide's Matthew Willoughby's sixth place in this final race secured him a third overall in the series.
Junior womens races were not conducted after several riders decided not to attend due to weather warnings and illness stopped Caroline Buchanan from racing. New Zealands Victoria Hill had the series won with ample points before the final round. and Buchanan stays in second place overall.
On Monday several top riders, Bailey, Mankowski, Callisto, Joliffe and Young, will head overseas for some international competition prior to representing Australia at the World Championships in Victoria, Canada on the 25 - 29th July.

best pros in one on one racing on a tight and technical track.
At the event there are auctions, raffles and so on throughout
the day and all of the money raised went to the Royal Children's
Hospital. The BSX2007 DVD covers all of the action from the racing,
from start to finish, and includes two crash sequences as well
as music from Blow Up Betty, Nevertold, Infused, Hell City Glamours
and Jaundas.
If you would like to purchase a copy of the DVD you can grab one at the track or email webmaster@bmxultra.com to have one delivered. The price is $AUS20 each plus postage. The money goes right back into the track to make it bigger and better for next year. If you plan on buying one at the track please email ahead and let us know so we can make sure we have enough copies.

As promissed I followed up the rumour that the US Olympic team
will be on Redline bikes. I went straight to the horses mouth
asking gOrk Barrette, the Redline marketing director, if he could
confirm or deny the rumour. Here's what he had to say;
"I'm hoping at least 2 of the 5 will be -- Bubba and
Kim.
But as for the rest of them -- NO. I don't think that is possible with the U.S. BMX program. I wouldn't even try to make it happen.
So I guess -- it's not true.
But I do hear that 2 out of 3 on the olympic podium will
be on Redline's! heh heh ...!"

Wyndham Warriors BMX club press release
Sunday June 3, the Wyndham Warriors BMX club played host the their
annual Open meeting Sponsored by United Equipment. Riders from
all over Victoria descended on a bright and sunny Heathdale Wetlands
to race upon what the BMX community considers a highly regarded
track. Sprockets aged 5-8 competed in friendly races, boys and
girls of all ages mixed it up, mums and dads got in on the challenge
action, whilst the more serious riders competed for the pro purse.
A BMX first saw the implementation of the Master Cup; a handicapped event giving older riders a chance against their younger rivals. United Equipment sponsored a trophy awarded to the winner and a $50 cheque. Along side some energetic parents, Trevor Stamford, Australias No1 40-44 mens cruiser rider and Greg Siinmaa, Australias No1 45+ Mens cruiser rider competed hard.
Greg Siinmaa took the win, the $50 and the United Equipment trophy, with Trevor Stamford in a close second. Luke Parker took the 15 boys win with Aus No1 Steven Gedye hot on his heals. Lukes sister Jade came 3rd the Ladies open, Ashley Weier taking the win and Erin Anderson a close second. Emily Richardson did well competing in the 10 boys and both Chloe Kennedy and Jacqueline Lyon raced well in the 9 boys class.
The Pro class was full of fast, tight racing and the highflying thrills and spills youd expect at this level. These guys raced three mottos and three finals. Michael Chasteauneuf was on fire taking every hole shot in all three finals and went on to win the class with hotshots Brock Tuckerman second and Australias No1 19-24 mens rider Olivier Hoarau in third. The Wyndham Warriors own Jordan Morgan came a respectably 4th after getting railed high and wide in turn two. The Warriors Shaun Collins also made the top eight, but had a massive spill from third place in the first final.
The Tehiko family kept the Warriors cheering all day as Brandon
(10) won all four of the 10 boys races plus the final, and came
third overall in the 13-14 boys cruiser class. His dad, Fraser
did well in the 30-39 mens races, and won the 40+ Mens
Cruiser. Other Warriors doing well included the Tucker boys James
and Aidan, Julian and Laurence Lally, Blake Pravics and Hayden
and Kane Solomano.

I think at some stage every BMXer will stop and think about
BMX at it's debut at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and come up with
a bunch of questions. I know I do. The thing about the Olympics
is that there isn't the same freedom with sponsorship that we
see on a weekly basis. Riders won't be wearing their sponsors
jersey, they will be wearing the jersey of their national team,
and the same will go for pants, gloves, helmets, probably even
socks, the list will go on and on.
I hear through the grapevine that the US team will all be riding Redline bikes, decked out with Shimano Equipment and they will be wearing Nike clothing. Does this mean that Nike will start making race clothes? I have no idea. But what it does mean is that we could see riders like Mikey Day, Randy Stumpfhauser, Donny Robinson, and/or Kyle Bennett on a Redline for one event.
At this stage it is not clear if they will have custom frames made to spec, but I imagine that's the only way such a thing could work.
What will happen with other countries? Will Redline be the bike of the US team or all of the Olympics? Will other manufacturers follow suit and make deals with national teams?
I'll try to find out more. Stay tuned.
