The Eastfield Experience promissed to be the biggest thing in Victoria since, well the Eastfield round of the DK series that BMXCentral put together a few years ago now. It had lots of money up for grabs, but lacked the draw of television and media hype. The meeting clashed with the third round of the UCI Supercross which a handful of Australian pros went to, but still it failed to attract a great number of interstate riders.
The weather was good, and generally isn't too bad in Melbourne this time of year, it was sunny but with a cold wind. The track was well prepared, super smooth and super fast, still though I have always found Eastfield a little dull to ride, more like a drag strip when compared to BMX tracks. I much prefer a couple of jumps that everyone jumps like Park Orchards or South Eastern. Eastfield has so much potential with the speed you can carry around it. So I was pleasantly surprised to hear there are some changes on the horizon.
The only AA pros to travel for the event were Leigh Darrell and Ryan Jedrzejczki to round out a field of just 10 riders. I won't deny they put on a good show, but just 10 riders? When a club and sponsors are putting this much into the sport it makes you wonder what it would take to pull everyone out of hibernation. The AA class is becoming a whole new ball game though with the UCI structures and riders doing all they can to impress Olympics selectors, I am sure that the hype will die off in about 12 months and we will see more riders show up to races like the Eastfield Experience.
Leigh Darrell and local Michael Chasteauneuf went into the final in equal first, which would set up a nice show down. Darrell took the win in the first final he was followed by Jon Jon Hoare in the first half the track but young Chasty passed him like he was standing still, man that kid has some speed. Chasty finished in second and Hoare took third. The second final was just carnage in the first corner, and yes you guessed it, Hoare was involved. Her got tangled up with Darrell mid field exiting the first corner and they both went down. From memory Connor Hunter went down with them. (Here's a pic of just before they went down.) Chasty took the win, then Ryan J and Josh Callan. Darrell had to walk his bike to the line so finished in 8th spot and lost pretty much any chance of taking the win. Chasty took the third main and the over all win, he was followed by Hoare and Olivier Hoarau. Luke Pretlove was amongst it too but wasn't having the best of luck.
In the pro women, only 7 riders, but it was exciting to watch with the lead changing each race and a number of times within the races. Former Queenslander Ashleigh Weier was looking the goods, but then so was Erin Anderson, and Caroline Sabotka was back on her bike, and surprised everyone, even herself I am sure after racing very consistantly and taking the overall win.
In A pro, 21 riders, there were a whole bunch of quick guys amongst the class. Tom Siinmaa was only a few dollars away from turning AA and looked ready for the move too. Matt Dunsworth has been flying lately and a track like Eastfield wasn't going to slow him down, he went through the motos undefeated. Jordan Morgan and Kyle Horton were also in the running for a podium finish after their performances in the early qualifying. Siinmaa took the win in the first round, followed by Dunsworth and Morgan. Then Dunsworth took the win in the second round, Siinmaa would get in for second, and Morgan another third. In the final round the overall winner would be decided, and it was Dunsworth who took line honours and the overall win. Tom Sinnmaa crossed the line for the last time as an A pro in second. He was followed by Kyle Horton, then Jordan Morgan.
Glenn Suridge took the 30 & Over open wheel final ahead of Craig Walczuk and Damien Callan.
If the Eastfield club can keep plugging away at promoting the event over the next 12 months, this meeting has the potential to be bigger than Track Attack. There's probably more money in one day than you can win in half a week at TA. Although the Experience felt a little like any other race meeting, I can safely say I will be going back next year and I would recommend everyone to make their calendars (although I hear the date may change).

BMX Australia press release
The 26th annual Queensland BMX State Titles will be held in Gladstone this weekend with a record 874 entries making it the second biggest BMX event in Australia. Gladstone have the highest entry numbers with 101 entries and Nerang with 72 entries. A total of 30 BMX clubs from all over Queensland will compete.
Yesterday’s Pre-Titles saw a strong ride by Townsville’s Ashley Pemberton making him one of the elite riders to beat while 2006 National Champion, Krystal Cranfield (Centenary Plains) originally from Gladstone, took the women’s win convincingly.
This evening at the BMX Queensland’s awards dinner, three Queenslanders will receive honours for Coach of the Year, Official of the Year and Volunteer of the Year.
Some of the talent to race on the weekend includes double BMX World Champion, Melinda McLeod from Mackay. McLeod returns to racing after claiming two gold medals in both 20” and cruiser in 14 girls in Canada in July.
For Jamie Gray from Brisbane jetlag may also play a part in his racing. The 26 year old from Beenleigh arrived back in Australia just yesterday. He.will headline the elite men’s field after being Australia’s highest placed rider in last Saturday’s BMX Supercross event in Salt Lake City, USA. Gray placed eighth and gained a total of nine valuable UCI points. Gray is now ranked 19th overall in the UCI BMX Supercross series.
As an elite rider, Gray believes it is important to put effort into the younger BMX riders. “We like to go up to get in with the kids,” he explained. “A lot of them don’t get to see the elite riders. They're alway's overseas."
"We want the kids to know we care about them and we like to be there to see them and see how they’re improving.”
Gladstone has special memories for Gray after he won the last state titles held there in 1999. “It was my first year in elite,” he recalls.
The Harbour City track has changed since then and now includes a tougher pro section. Gray will get some practice in tomorrow morning before the official opening and march past.
Defending state Champion, Todd Pascoe from Townsville will be out to retain his title while women’s defending champion, Cranfield could be challenged by Kelly Percy from Redlands.
Pascoe will have to watch out for strong Sunshine Coast rider, Joel Clark .Clark won the Mother of all Motos (MOAM) last Sunday in Gladstone and is expected to make the finals on Sunday.
With BMX heading towards its debut at the Beijing Olympics there is a lot of interest in the elite riders however many of the riders racing this weekend will be hoping to qualify at this year’s National Championships in Adelaide in April. Many also have the dream of making one of the future Olympic teams.

Last One Standing press release
In the thrilling new Discovery Channel series LAST ONE STANDING, six athletes – three American and three British – are immersed in the most remote tribes in the world, where they live alongside and train with indigenous tribespeople as they prepare to represent their host tribe in raw and intense competition. From death-defying Zulu stick fighting in South Africa to an arduous foot race in the Mexican mountains — wearing only handmade sandals — these men push their physical and mental limits to see who will be the last warrior standing. This new 12-part series premieres Thursday, Oct. 4, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
The diverse group of athletes are at the top of their game: There is a BMX rider, a strongman competitor, an Oxford University sportsman, a hiker and endurance athlete, a kickboxer, and a British all-rounder and fitness professional. Together they compete in an array of tribal games and rite of passage ceremonies, where competition is frequently a metaphor for war. Completely immersed in a tribal culture, the adventurers live among the village warriors to train and prepare for the battle that lies ahead — no concessions are made.
Will the sprinter be able to keep up in the long-distance running competitions held by the remote Tarahumara Indians across punishing terrain in northern Mexico? Will the Florida BMX’er (who had never before left the United States) stand a chance against the fierce Kalapalo wrestlers in Brazil? Will any of the six make a showing while endurance canoeing in Papua, New Guinea?
LAST ONE STANDING gives viewers an intimate look into parts of the world removed from civilization. The competitors travel to Kalapalo, Brazil (wrestling); Zulu, South Africa (stick fighting); Tarahumara, Mexico (endurance running); Mongolia (wrestling); Trobriand Islands (tribal cricket); Sumi, Nagaland (Akikiti kickboxing); Senegal (wrestling); Papua, New Guinea (canoe racing); Brazil (Kraha log racing); Peru (glacial challenge); Java (martial arts); and Vanuatu (canoe racing).
The six competitors are Rajko, 29, a British all-rounder and former world record holder; Jason, 21, the 2006 Florida State BMX Champion; Richard, 21, an Oxford University sportsman who plays cricket, Rugby and croquet; Brad, 28, an American professional lightweight strongman; Mark, 26, a British salsa dancer and kickboxer; and Corey, 22, a hiker and endurance athlete. Each has different strengths and weaknesses, and all of them will be challenged as never before.
The six athletes are from dramatically different regions and cultures themselves, and while forced to compete against each other, they also formed an unlikely brotherhood. For most of them, the journey was spiritual and emotional as well as competitive. As Corey from Alaska observes, "We came into this as a competition — we put on our game faces during the matches. But as soon as we’re done with that, we’re family." As well, the competitors formed strong bonds with their host tribal families. Brad from Oklahoma remarks of the Mongolian villagers, "They took us in like family and treated us like their adopted sons."

Supercross BMX have released a new look website and a 2008 catalog just in time for Interbike in Vegas this week.
I have grown the be quite fond of Supercross products over the years through various reviews, they push to reduce weight in high end, affordable quality products without losing focus of why they are here. Supercross are a pioneer in BMX product design, a few years back now they tried carbon tubes in their frames way before anyone else, they had some failures, but all in the name of progress. While carbon forks were taking off, Supercross developed a super light cromo fork that coud rival the weight but at half the price and it seems that there are a number of companies out there on the bandwagon now. He's the first manufacturer to have a cromo 2 piece cromo crank with a weight that rivals the alloy 2 piece cranks on the market but with the stiffness of cromo.
I have had many conversations with Supercross owner Bill Ryan, he has a lot to offer BMX and always has time to talk about why and how he went about developing design ideas and concepts. I have a lot of respect for what he does as an art fan would respect an artist.
For the second year in a row the Supercross BMX catalog makes reference to bmxultra.com reviews.
Check out the new look Supercross BMX website, catalog and all the new products due for release very soon at www.supercrossbmx.com.

The Eastfield Experience will probably go down in the history books as the richest event in Victoria this season. And what a way to kick off the season too.
We had three riders entered for the event. Jamie Bullows was to take on the 30 & Over open wheel class but a nasty fall the night before while training at Park Orchards saw him spend a couple of hours in hospital and unfit to ride. Brandan Bullows and Shane Jenkins would hit up A pro, for Brandan it was his first A pro race and Shane's first race after a 3 month break from racing. Brandan went on to make the semi finals but wasn't able to progress, at 14 years old this guy has a bright future in BMX. Jenkins on the other hand had to contend with a flat tire in the first qualifier after picking up some glass between practice and when racing started and his day didn't get much better, but you can be sure that he will bounce back and get amongst it soon.

Eastfield press release
In what was one of the best days of BMX this year, Eastfield’s Michael Chasteauneuf won the AA Pro men section of the Moro Olive Oil Eastfield Experience. Chasteauneuf won two of the three finals and was second in the other, which gave him the win from Frankston’s Olivier Hoarau and South Eastern Rider Jonathan Hoare.
The first final saw Canberra’s Leigh Darrell power away from the field for an easy win with Chasteauneuf in second and Hoare in third.
Chasteauneuf got a great start in the second final and lead into Moro Olive Oil berm. Behind him the fortunes of a couple of the leading riders changed when Darrell and Hoare came together. This effectively ended both their races. Liverpool’s Ryan Jedrzejczki went on to take second with Lilydale’s Josh Callan third.
The third, and last, final saw Chasteauneuf once again get the better start, he powered away from the field to win with Hoare in second and Hoarau in a close third.
In the Moro Olive Oil Pro Ladies South Eastern rider Caroline Sobotka defeated new Knox rider Ashleigh Weier. Erin Anderson also from know took third place for the day. Sobotka and Weier traded wins all day and the finals were know different. Sobotka’s win in the final race of the meet saw her walk away with the winners cheque and 4lts of Moro Olive Oil.
In the BMXMAD Shake n Bake A Pro Men, Knox’s Matthew Dunsworth and Tom Siinmaa also banged bars all day. After the two of them took a win a piece in the first two finals, Dunsworth was able to take the win in the third with Siinmaa only able to take third. This gave the win to Dunsworth from Siinmaa with Wyndham’s Jordan Morgan being in third place.
All classes were very well supported on the day with many of the aged classes giving us some very entertaining racing.

Crupi press release
Arcadia, California – In just a year’s time since Crupi owner Greg Swingrover took over the company and declared in his first press release that Crupi would be offering a “more affordable” line of products, we are proud to announce Rhythm, by Crupi!

Thus, we developed this new line under the name Rhythm which is designed by Crupi, but manufactured outside of the US. Rhythm will feature very innovative products that will not simply be “me too” products. A lot of thought will go into each and every product that Rhythm will release and dealers will be able to make great margins!
Although we have several big projects currently in production, we have released the following new products which are now in stock and available for purchase. Please visit www.crupibmx.com for more details on these new products or contact Crupi directly for our new 2008 price list.

BMX Australia press release
Rain has caused the cancellation of racing in the third round of the UCI BMX Supercross in Salt Lake City, USA. Officials called a halt to proceedings after several riders, including Australia’s Luke Madill, tangled handlebars on the slippery 8 metre high start ramp.
According to the UCI BMX Co-ordinator, Johan Lindstrom, it was not an easy decision. “We had to stop,” said Lindstrom. “Our first and foremost concern was the safety of the riders. For me personally,” he said, “it’s the first one to be cancelled.”
The decision by race officials not to reschedule racing was also due to other logistical problems including NBC television coverage of all of the Dew Tour events. While Lindstrom acknowledges that it was partly due to being part of other events including Motocross, skate and BMX freestyle meaning that rescheduling was not possible there were still difficulties for some teams to stay longer.
"We could have put it off until the track was ready by noon tomorrow but many of the teams were planned to fly out earlier. The right decision was made,” said Lindstrom.
However, Australian BMX Coach, Scott Sharples, disagreed with the decision, saying the event should have been rescheduled. While Sharples acknowledges the fact that some teams could not change their plans, he had however wisely factored in another day for the Australian team.
“I had allowed another day for bad weather,” Sharples said. “I don’t know why the other teams didn’t allow for that.”
"They haven’t had rain here for four or five weeks,” said Lindstrom. “This event did not have the flexibility to reschedule.”
The cancellation means some countries may miss out on valuable qualifying points they may have expected after racing. Without a complete round of eighths results the eventual results were determined by time trails held on the previous day. The top 16 riders in the time trial places will receive points.
Riders also miss valuable racing experience on the huge supercross track with aspects like the 8 metre start ramp and the random start gate. All components of the Olympic event.
“All of our team needs to get more racing experience,” Sharples stated.
It was not all bad news for the Aussies however, with two Australians, Jamie Gray and Luke Madill, finishing in eighth and tenth place respectively.
The decision to cancel racing could also be seen to put the Beijing Olympics schedule into some doubt however Lindstrom says it is a different situation.
“The track there will be able to handle a little bit of rain and we have more flexibility,” he added. “It is our venue. We are preparing for these possibilities.”
Next year’s Supercross events have already been decided and Lindstrom claims the UCI do consider the advantages of indoor tracks when they are deciding on locations for series. “Two of the five events next year will be indoors,” he said. “Both Madrid and Adelaide are indoors so two out of five is good.”
Australian organizers of the BMX Supercross event to be held in Adelaide next April are now affirmed that their plans to hold the event indoors was a good decision. Adelaide’s event will be held in Jubilee Hall at the Adelaide Showground and will precede the National Championships.

NBL press release
Hilliard, Ohio - The National Bicycle League (NBL) will debut the Random Gate Start at the NBL Supercross Nationals in Woodward. Pa and the new system will be used at all of the 2008 National and Regional Championship events.
The new system requires quick reactions and adds a random delay between 0 - 2.5 seconds between the traditional 'voice commands'. The system was introduced by UCI at the Supercross (SX) in Beijing in August and it has been in use at a number of other International events.
NBL Field Directors will be providing technical information to all tracks directly about how the new system will be adopted locally. "We've done our research on the new system and we truly feel it will help us further our efforts to promote fair and competitive racing on all levels" said Bob Tedesco, NBL Managing Director.
For those riders who are attending the NBL Supercross National at Camp Woodward, we suggest that you arrive early and get as much practice as you can with the new system. Good luck and good racing. Visit www.nbl.org for more details.

We had a very productive working bee on Saturday September 15th, thanks to Chris and Craig (and the girls) for soldiering on after I blew the tube out on the wheelbarrow. The track is looking smooth and fast and some of the jumps are getting longer. Photos? Not yet sorry, there's more work to do. There are no plans at this stage to run another working bee, but we'll be slaving away over the track and doing plenty of riding over the coming months. If you are interested in helping out or if you have any questions just email webmaster@bmxultra.com.

Well if you have been wondering what's happened to the regular product reviews, they are back on track, poor weather and resticted time for riding had made it a little difficult to get out on the bike, but it looks like that's all behind us now. Crupi USA press release
Arcadia, California – Crupi has long been one of the premier High-End BMX brands in Australia and Crupi has always supported a team in Australia. However, our Australian team was recently dissolved as our main dealer decided to get out of BMX. Crupi is actively searching for the right dealer to work with who can put another team back together and carry the Crupi line. Crupi was working on a deal with SIRIUS BIKES but has decided not to go with them and will work in another direction. We wanted to be clear that Crupi Products will not be available through Sirius Bikes and until we do have another dealer in Queensland, Crupi products are available in Australia through these great retailers:

ABA press release
Labor Day weekend can only mean one thing when it comes to ABA BMX, and that`s the Black Jack Nationals in Reno , NV . It also means big team points on the line for all the ABA Teams. The Black Jack Nationals were another stellar event for the fans and racers a like. With the 2007 season heading into the last quarter, the teams were in Reno in full force. Each team was vying for the much needed points and position before heading into the So. Cal Nationals which will be a real barn burner in all the ABA BMX team categories. With only a few ABA BMX Nationals left and The Disney Cup event just around the corner, there`s BIG $$$ on the line for the Pro`s and Teams at the First ever Disney Cup event. One can only anticipate what`s to come. The Disney Cup event looks to be the "Wild Card" event of the season, and with three national scores being offered, not to mention the last nationals before the ever popular ABA NAG 5 Challenge cut is made. We should see a who`s who of BMX at this one!
The ABA BMX Team titles are always one to watch on the scene. As you can see from the Team standings bellow, things are really starting to tighten up in the Team competition. There’s a lot at stake for the teams for their piece of the more than $27,000 ABA BMX is putting up for the year end awards. Here’s a list of top dogs on the Team front. Who’s going to win it all at the ABA GRANDS? That I’m not sure of, but what I can say is that you haven’t seen anything yet. The Team battle for the ABA National #1 Titles is only going to get better!

ABA press release
ABA Owner Bernie Anderson Recognized For his Contributions to BMX
Gilbert , Arizona — The ABA (American Bicycle Association) is very proud to announce that company owner; Bernard (Bernie) R. Anderson will be recognized along with five other bicycling notables to the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame induction ceremony is to be held October 20, 2007 at the Hyatt Regency, New Brunswick , New Jersey.
Bernie Anderson is a pioneer in the sport of BMX having his start in 1976. Originally from Jackson County and Kanawha County West Virginia and a resident of San Antonio , Texas since 1954; Bernie Anderson became a leader in the BMX racing community during its formative years. It is Anderson ’s drive and love of the sport that has kept him active during the decades of growth the sport has realized. Bernie started four state-of-the-art BMX racing facilities in Southwestern Texas and was a force that led the sport to prominence throughout the state. Known for his hospitality, Anderson has always enjoyed entertaining amateur and Pro racers from all around the country including fellow U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame members Toby Henderson, Greg Hill and Stu Thompson
A successful entrepreneur, Anderson realized that he could be part of making the sport of BMX an important aspect of the bicycle community. In 1985, after being a track operator and parent of two boys who raced, Anderson purchased the American Bicycle Association. The sanction was suffering and greatly needed the business savvy that he brought to the company. From bankruptcy, he has built the ABA into the largest sanctioning body for BMX in the world. Innovative programs and the enjoyment of the sport have provided him the abilities to push for continued growth. It is his progression through the sport that provided the needed insight for the varied tasks of the ABA ; A BMX parent from 1976 -1978, a leading Track Operator from 1978-1985, Manufacturer of Rebel Racing Frames 1981-1984 and ABA owner 1985-present.
Now retired, Bernie Anderson still attends many of the ABA events and is active in the planning and management of the ABA . The Texan who in the 1970’s saw more than kids on a dirt lot has helped shape the sport of BMX. It is for his continued efforts in shaping the sport and promoting its popularity that has earned him the recognition of the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame. However, Anderson is quick to recognize that without the ABA ’s President Clayton John, the employees, track operators, sponsors, families and the racers; ABA would not be the leader in BMX that it is today.
The U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame is soon to be located in central New Jersey and is an advocate for all aspects of cycling. The U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who have collectively or individually left their mark on cycling. The individuals are inducted for their dedication and efforts to promote bicycling.
ABA (American Bicycle Association), formed in 1977 and headquartered in Chandler , Arizona , is “The Sanctioning Body of BMX”©. The ABA organizes BMX racing for boys, girls and adults, nationwide and Canada . With 80,000 active members, 274 racing facilities and a 27 event-national race schedule; ABA is the largest promoter of action sports. For additional press information about ABA , the sport of BMX, ABA events or Professional racers, call (714) 666-1999. go211.com press release
San Diego, California – This past weekend the San Diego Convention Center hosted the annual Action Sports Retailer trade show, an event where much of the action sports community comes together to show off their new gear for the following year to all the retail shops in the country. Companies like Volcom, Quiksilver, DC Shoes, Etnies and the like, show off their new wares and also get their team riders out to meet and greet the retailers. go211.com pro team riders Alise Post and Joey Bradford and newcomers Lee Lewis and Swiss Jr. Men’s World Champ Yvan Lapraz made the trek out to So Cal and the ASR show.
At this year’s event, go211.com sponsored one of the upstairs suites belonging to Grind for Life, a charity started by pro skateboarder Mike Rogers who was stricken by cancer, not once, but twice and ultimately lost his right eye to the disease. The 2000 square foot room was hosted by Christopher “Big Black” Boykin from MTV’s “Rob and Big” show, whose footwear lineup was making its debut and go211 was one of the title sponsors for Big Black’s private party on Saturday night. Joey Bradford impressed Big enough to land the only shoe sponsorship they have done thus far. Joey walked out of the show with five new pairs of Double B Shoes and clothing. “We are very excited to work with a successful young man like Joey,” stated Brian Wright, President of Double B Enterprises. “Joey fits right into the mold of what we are looking for – enterprising young people, not just riders. Double B is a lifestyle, not just a sport.” Look for Joey and his new kicks around the track and maybe if he’s lucky he’ll make it onto the MTV show.\
Day one saw the group meeting with Mike Rogers and volunteering with his Grind for Life cause, educating people on the facts about cancer and the need for more research. After that the group got to meet some of the go211.com pro team – pro surfers Holly Beck and Cheyne Magnusson, pro skaters Christian Hosoi and Holly Lyons, pro snowboarders Danny Kass, Jeremy Jones, and Andy Finch, as well as meeting some legendary action sports personalities like Ryan Sheckler, Paul Schmitt, Lester Kasai, among others. Alise, Joey and Yvan were invited to hit up the Standard Films premier of their new snowboard flick, “Catch the Vapors” with fellow go211.com team rider Danny Kass. After that they caught the premier of X Games / ESPN announcer Sal Masekela’s film “Bra Boys”. Lee Lewis got to hit up the Billabong Party and catch the band “Angels and Airwaves” along with Billabong’s new surf movie.
Day two was the Big Black party and it was off the hook. The go211.copm suite was right next to the Etnies suite, so the two combined parties to make one huge blowout. Lets just say six kegs went pretty quickly. The party had a dunk tank to raise money for charity and Alise Post was the first to volunteer to take the plunge. Apparently pro skaters aren’t very good baseball players and couldn’t hit the target no matter how hard they tried, so most of them just ran up and hit the target with their fists to dunk the National #1 Pro. Best part was Joey Bradford donating to the cause and sponsoring the first ten people with a $10 donation. Day two ended with a nice dinner for the go211.com crew and the Big Black crew where they got to meet up with DC Shoes President Nick Adcock at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse on the water in downtown San Diego. The crew was invited out by Big Black to hit up a show by the members of Wu Tang Clan, but they are all underage and had to back out.
Day three, Lee Lewis got to work with the legendary Paul Schmitt (founder of skateboard brands New Deal and Element among others), and his new venture, CreateASkate.org. This company provides a curriculum to schools for kids to build their own skateboards during their school’s shop class. Lee got to build himself a brand new deck under the expert tutelage of Professor Paul before the day was done and the show ended.
Nice way for the go211.com BMX pros to make their debut to the action sports world. Look for more to come in the near future!

TITLE CHASES COME DOWN TO THE WIRE AT THE 30th ANNUAL NBL GRAND NATIONAL
NBL press release
Hilliard, Ohio – The National Bicycle League (NBL) would like to thank our sponsors, volunteers, the Derby City track, and everyone who spent their Labor Day weekend at the 30th Annual NBL Grand National with us. This year’s gathering served up more entertainment, more excitement and culminated with the crowing of the NBL National Championship titles. Each of the 2007 National Champions were presented with a commemorative 30th NBL Grand National award and the race is officially in the history books as a stunning day of triumph, glory, and surprise.
From a rider’s perspective, the weekend was what BMX Racing is all about – having a good time. To start things off, each rider received a commemorative 30th Annual Grand National pennant. Spectators and riders were provided with extra copies of September’s BMX Today magazine that included a full-color ‘Grands’ Program that gave everyone the inside scoop on the major showdowns for the weekend and exciting activities that would take over E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park.
NBL included a number of crowd-friendly activities such as the Intense Build-a-Bike Contest which proved to be a huge hit this year. Four lucky contestants were paired up with some of the Industry’s “big wigs” in hopes of building their team’s bike the fastest. Johnny Vargas along with MCS’s marketing man, Brian Fell, were the winners of the event; sending Johnny home with a brand new Intense bike and Brian with bragging rights. On Saturday afternoon prior to the Elite Spectacular, fans were treated to a Pro Autograph session. The NBL booth was crowded with tons of fans who were excited to meet the stars and get signatures on their NBL Elite Series posters, T-shirts, hats and even their bikes. A good time was had by all.
With only half of the season to work with, Free Agent’s Kyle Bennett showed that he is at the top of his game by winning the main and his 3rd NBL Elite Men’s title. He edged out points leader and team mate Cristian Becerine for the thrilling win. Becerine, the season’s most consistent rider, and Formula’s Donny Robinson earned the 2nd and 3rd place titles respectively.
Supercross’s Samantha Cools won the Elite Women’s main but Redline’s Kim Hayashi had already earned enough points to win her record-setting 5th consecutive NBL Elite Women’s title – Congratuations Kim! Intense/Unbound’s Stephanie Barragan enjoyed her most successful weekend of racing placing 2nd in the main which earned her enough points to finish 3rd overall in the season behind Cools and Hayashi.
In Masters, Redline’s Jason Carnes had the title all wrapped up coming to the Grands, but a few guys weren’t going to let that get in the way of their race. Formula’s Tim Dinger lead the pack to the finish line with Bob O’Gorman and Carnes close on his heels. Dinger and GT’s Eric Rupe earned the 2nd and 3rd titles respectively.
The weekend was full of amazing races, upsets, and come-from-behind wins and we would also like to congratulate J&R/Profiles Mike Kapes who won the overall title in the stacked Super-Ex class. Kapes beat out some heavy hitters like Felt’s Jason Morris and MCS’s Jonathan Villa for the top spot in points. The main event would go to MCS’s Phil Delizia with teammate Villa close behind and rounding out the top three would be none other that Money Mike Kapes. GT’s Joey Bradford and TLD’s Amanda Geving won the titles in their respective Junior classes.
The battle for teams came to an end with some repeats and upsets. Once again Dan’s Comp walked away with the National Team title and win for the weekend, while VBS-Kenda surprised everyone winning the crown in the Team NBL standings. Upsetting the standings and making their way to the top of the list was all in a days work for VBS who was closely followed by the 2006 Champions HBR/GHP/Prudential.
To mark the end of an excellent season and Grands, the NBL revealed a brand new National #1 Award which was awarded to all NBL National Champions along with a special NBL #1 plate.

BMX Victoria press release
Qualification for national championships 2008 and entering this years WD-40 Victorian open state championships
At the recent 2007 BMXA National Officiating Conference the State Delegates reaffirmed their commitment to having a qualification requirement for entrants to the Australian National Championships.
The philosophy behind this has 3 main reasons:
In support of this philosophy, ALL riders wishing to enter the National Championships must compete in their home State Championships, in the year prior.
THIS MEANS THAT VICTORIAN RIDERS WISHING TO ENTER THE 2008 NATIONALS IN ADELAIDE MUST ENTER AND COMPETE IN THIS YEARS WD-40 VICTORIAN OPEN STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS.
Wild Card entries to the Nationals will only be available for a limited range of individual circumstances assessed according to an established set of criteria. It is noted that the Wild Card system first used this year will be substantially tightened and unconditional entry to the Nationals will NOT be available. This tightening of procedures will include an earlier closing date for Wild Card entries and a requirement for Wild Card approval to be obtained (from your home State Officiating Director) before submitting the entry.
Whilst the Criteria for Wild Cards are available separately, it should be noted that simply choosing not to ride the State Championships is NOT a valid justification to expect a Wild Card.
All Victorian riders are urged to enter the WD-40 Victorian Open State Championships and to encourage their rider friends to do so, not only for the competition itself but also the opportunity to compete in next years Nationals in Adelaide.
Yours in BMX
BRIAN LACEY _ BMXV President
PAM BEERENS _ State Officiating Director
ABA BMX press release
The American Bicycle Association hosted the Black Nationals Nationals this past weekend, August 31 - September 2, in Reno, NV. The summer Reno is always one the top races of the year for the fans. Being an indoor event the climate was great, the Factory Team areas were packed, and the track was great and smooth as glass!
The racing at the Black Jack was awesome to say the least. With only TWO PRO SERIES events left plus the ABA GRANDS, many of the sports top athletes were on hand to take a shot at getting some much needed points towards the ABA BMX titles and the brand new Suzuki`s that go with them. Another fast Aussie was in the house to take his first AA PRO win. Khalen Young continued to impress and show why he's worthy of his band new Haro ride. Two-Time ABA National #1 Am, David Herman, also left his mark on the AA PRO ranks by picking up the first ever AA PRO win of his career in Reno. David has been all over the podium this year and was due for a big win at any time. The "Hermanator" is one of the new young guns and will be a serious ABA PRO Title threat in very near future. These two new AA PRO winners are #11 and #12 to stand atop the Pro podium in 2007. ABA BMX has had an unbelievable 12 different AA Pro winners this season which tops the 2006 record of 9 AA Pro winners. That just goes to show how DEEP the talent pool is at ABA BMX Pro Series events!
On the Ladies side Terra Nichols did Chuck and the gang proud. She picked up two wins on the weekend and moved ever so closer to Alise Post and the ABA PRO Ladies title. Terra has won her fair share of ABA Girl Am. Titles and is a serious contender to take the PRO Title at this years ABA Grands!
Pro Cruiser saw Pauly Lange take the big wins both days. This makes three wins in-a-row for Pauly and he has gained some serious ground on Danny C. for the ABA PRO Cruiser Title. Pauly has been so close before he could taste it, he seems to be more focused then ever on winning it all at this years ABA Grands!
Vet Pro saw the debut of Dale Holmes to the class. Dale been racing mountain bikes and decided to knock the dust off the 'ol BMX bike and see if he still has what it takes. Dale took the big Vet PRO win on Saturday and finished a strong second on Sunday. Phantom-On-Trac's Chad Street stepped it up and took his third win of the year on Sunday. Chad is a solid rider that is always in the hunt for the win. Chad's win moves him up to 2nd in the points and right up to the heels of C-Money's. Will Texas finish up the year #1 and #2 in the Vet PRO class? I guess we'll have to wait and see!
The ABA would like to thank all the participants, families, teams, sponsors, and BMX industry for helping make the Reno, NV. event such a huge success!

BMXPros.com press release
NBL Grand Nationals Louisville, KY
The 2007 NBL season has been one of the best NBL title chases in history. With a slew of great finishes from multiple riders throughout the season, the NBL title would be decided by the outcome of the main event. Cristian Becerine and Kyle Bennett went into the Grands just 2 points apart and it would come down to which of these two riders finished up better in the main event. 2006 NBL Pro #1 Donny Robinson still had a shot at the title as well, so it was going to be a all out battle for one rider to walk away with the NBL #1 Pro plate. This was by far the most anticipated event of the 2007 NBL season and the Double A Marketing Pros were up for the chance to win a #1 title. Here is how they finished up at the NBL Grands:
Kyle Bennett may just be the best Pro rider in BMX right now. After missing the start of the 2007 Season after having major surgery on his knee, Kyle came back in April in a big way, with some impressive results, including a slew of wins. Kyle was very consistent in his NBL season and would just be able to get the needed number of races after the last NBL pro series event, leaving him in the #2 spot. In the end of July, Kyle capped of his overwhelmingly impressive season with winning the UCI World Title for a 3rd time. Coming into the Grands, the weekend capped off with the UCI event on Friday night, and Kyle showed what he planned to do all weekend, by winning the main event in decisive fashion. On Saturday night, Kyle easily made it into the Elite Main event and the year long title quest would be decided by the one lap main event, as Cristian was in the main as well. As the gate dropped, Kyle held the slimmest of leads over Cristian and the two were side by side for the entire lap. Down the last strait away, Kyle pulled out a small lead by jumping a triple jump that no one was doing and this was the edge he needed to beat Cristian by half of a bike length at the line. Kyle and Cristian would tie in year end points, the first time in NBL history, but the tie was broken by the Grands main event, handing Kyle his 3rd NBL #1 Pro title. This makes 2 #1 Pro titles for Kyle in 2007 and now he has his sights set on being part of Team USA for the 2008 Olympic Games. With the determination he showed this season, he cannot be denied! Kyle Kyle's sponsors include Free Agent, KHS, Fly Racing, Bombshell, www.Go211.com, Sun Rims, Shimano, UGP, Kenda, Thomson, S & M bars, ODI, ORP, Powerbar, Cyto Sport, and BMXpros.com.
Cristian Becerine has had the most impressive NBL season of his pro career in 2007, leading points for most of the year. In South Park, it was an epic battle between Cristian and Kyle and the went 1st and 2nd both days, making the Grands an all out pressure cooker as he needed to be in the main event and beat Kyle by one spot to take home his first NBL #1 Elite title. Cristian and Kyle would wind up being in the same mottos all day as well as semi main, but he rode strong, just like he has all season and even won the semi, having him feel confident for the main event. Cristian had an inside gate, while Kyle was in lane 7, so he had another small advantage as the gate dropped. Cristian bonked a jump just before the 1st turn, putting him just behind Kyle going into turn one. The two were side by side for the rest of the track and it looked like Cristian was surging ever so slightly down the last strait away, but it just wasn't enough, as Cristian laid it all out and finished 2nd behind Kyle. Cristian was happy for Kyle and satisfied for a great season and knowing he did his best. Cristian's Sponsors include: Free Agent, Answer, Kenda, THE Products, ODI, Sun Ringle, Shimano, Powerbar, Cyto Sport, OGIO, Oakley, Thomson Seat Posts, and BMXpros.com
Randy Stumpfhauser for the first time in 5 years was not up for the NBL Pro title, but loves the Louisville track, so he decided to race at the UCI event and the NBL Grands instead of going to the ABA event like many other Pro riders. This was a surprise, as Randy sits in the #2 spot in the ABA Pro title chase, but shows on how much he loves the sport of BMX and a great track. On Friday night, Randy was amped up in the UCI event and had a solid lap, as he finished up 2nd, just behind Kyle and gained some moire ever so important UCI points. These points will decided who is the first pick for the USA Olympic team. Come NBL Grands time, Randy was once again on point, until the semi event, where he did not transfer and had to sit out and watch the race action. In typical Stumpy form, he was there till the end, cheering on Kyle and Cristian and was excited for both. Randy is a truly stand up guy and is a true Professional. Randy's sponsors include GT Bicycles, Kenda, SINZ Racing, www.Go211.com, ODI, Tangent, Sun Rims, Bombshell, Fly Racing, Powerbar, OGIO, SDG, SRAM, Cyto Sport, and BMXpros.com.
Double A Marketing proudly represents Cristian Becerine, Kyle Bennett, Brandon Meadows, and Randy Stumpfhauser. For more information on any of the riders or on Double A Marketing, please e-mail BMXpros - info@BMXpros.com

UCI press release
Union Cycliste International is pleased to announce that for the season 2007/2008, the UCI will introduce and adopt the UCI random start gate for all UCI events including the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup, the 2008 UCI BMX World Championships and the 2008 Olympic Games.
After years of development, and a very successful test event held on the Olympic BMX track in Beijing China in early August 2007, the UCI has taken the decision to introduce the random gate system without further delays.
The UCI random start gate adds another dimension to the traditional BMX start gate, where patience and fast reaction will become important factors for an efficient start. The UCI random gate has also proven to more equal for the competitors, where premature movement on the gate is being prevented.
In technical terms, the UCI random gate adds a random delay of 0 to 2.5 seconds between the traditional “voice commands” and the first red light (out of 4 lights). With the cadence of the lights remains as before, riders can still utilize the traditional movement out of the gate.
The UCI random gate was developed by and is currently being offered by the UCI official gate supplier – Pro Gate www.pro-gate.com . It will be offered by other gate suppliers shortly. The technical specifications and voice-files are available through the UCI office.
