We're happy to announce that the BSX2008 DVD's are all finished and selling like hot cakes right now. There have been a number of thank you emails and sms messages from some very impressed new owners of the DVD which went on sale at the racing at Warragul on the weekend.
They are currently available through BMXMAD (www.bmxmad.com.au) or through bmxultra.com. BSX2006, BSX2007 and BSX2008 DVD's are available at $20 each (plus postage). All three DVD's will be bundled together for a special price of $45.
Profits from sales of the DVDs will go back into the track to make the event bigger and better than ever. The current plan is to rebuild the starting hill for more speed and rebuild the track for even more fun.
Here's the lowdown on the DVD
BSX2008, ran in January, was the third annual one-on-one sprint trials race run at Kinglake (Australia), about 60kms north east of Melbourne's CBD. The event is a fundraiser for the Royal Children's Hospital.
The DVD is 65 minutes long with every run captured on two cameras. It's more of a documentary of what went down than a highlights package, but has plenty of highlights in the intro and great crash highlights in the crash section.
DVD features:

NBL press release
USA’s most exciting Championship BMX race will soon take over Derby City BMX Track in Louisville, Kentucky from August 29 – 31. The 2008 NBL Grand National begins only 8 days after the sport makes its thrilling debut at the Olympic Games in Beijing, China and the NBL has planned several new events to celebrate the past, present and future of the sport. The fastest riders from around the world always attend the Grands and this year, the fastest riders from the past will be honored at the NBL Hall Of Fame Awards on Saturday evening.
The NBL Grand National is much more than just a race – it’s an ‘Experience’ and to celebrate the Olympic year, NBL will be inducting three past-champions into the NBL Hall Of Fame. Greg Esser, first NBL Men’s Pro - 1979, Kathy Schachel, first NBL Women’s Pro - 1985 and ‘Stompin’ Stu Thomsen, two-time NBL Pro – 1981 & 1982.
NBL will proudly induct the three athletes into the Hall of Fame during an evening ceremony following Saturday’s Pro Spectacular at a venue to be announced. Greg and Kathy will be inducted as a tribute to the first riders to win official NBL Pro titles. Greg Esser, son of NBL founder, George Esser, made history as the first rider to win the NBL Pro Men’s title in 1979. Prior to 1985, the women’s class was known as ‘Powder Puff’ and Kathy Schachel won it three consecutive years from 1981-83. Though she lost the title in 1984 to Debbi Kaslow, she stormed back in 1985 to win the first ever Pro Women’s title in BMX and held it for a two-year term. Stu Thomsen, who held back-to-back NBL Pro titles from 1981-82, will be recognized for his incredible career of achievements and milestones. Craig Reynolds, now an established host, reporter, writer and emcee, was a popular rider on the NBL circuit for many years and has been named as the master of ceremonies.
In addition to the HOF inductions, NBL will recognize the 2008 Pro Champions and all Olympic athletes who attend the Grands. Oh yeah, did we mention that Stu is racing the Grands and is also starring in a new movie from the producers of ‘Joe Kid on a Stingray’? Truth! – John Swarr and Mark Eaton of ‘Joe Kid’ fame plan to show a short teaser from their new film about Stu’s life at the HOF awards. Tickets and venue information to follow.
To compliment the Hall of Fame awards, an Old-School Museum will be on display throughout the weekend with all kinds of memorabilia from the past. Look for more ‘Grands’ news coming soon.

Round #8 of the 2008 ABA Pro Series headed up to one of the best ABA tracks on the tour, Rad Canyon BMX in Salt Lake City, Utah. The track has gone through some recent changes, including a newly paved 1st and 2nd turn and a all new rhythm section. These additions to the already great track, helped make it one of the best tracks on the Pro tour and made for some of the best Pro racing this season. Randy Stumpfhauser and Danny Caluag were on hand for the race action and here is how they finished up racing in Salt Lake City:
Danny Caluag had an incredible weekend in Salt Lake City. Danny, the 2007 ABA #1 Pro, has already had a great season with a slew of wins in both AA Pro and Pro Cruiser. Danny had the fans stoked on his custom painted Bawls Blue Intense Podium bike. On Day 1, Danny won both the AA Pro main event and Pro Cruiser races. On Sunday, Danny once again won Pro Cruiser and finished up 6th in AA Pro. Danny now has 6 wins in the AA Pro Class and 8 Wins in Pro Cruiser for 2008. Danny's Sponsors include Intense BMX, BAWLS Guarana, Fly Racing, Skull Candy, Shimano, THE Products, SINZ Racing, Intense Tyre Systems, OGIO, Cyto Sport, Thomson, Oakley, GO211.com, S & M Bars, and BMXpros.com
Randy Stumpfhauser had a god weekend in Salt Lake City. Things started out for him on Thursday with a great day at the Ogio Golf Tournament. On Friday, Randy traveled to a local bike shop and did a dealer appearance with his GT Team Mate Eric Rupe, Things really started to heat up for him on Saturday as he was up for the win in AA Pro come main event time. 1 bad race kept him to 5th for the day. That is how hard the AA Pro class is. On Sunday, Stumpy came back and took home a 2nd in AA Pro. Randy now gets ready for the NBL Grands, where he is going to be battling it out with Cristian Becerine for the NBL Pro title .Randy's sponsors include GT Bicycles, Bombshell, ODI, Tangent, Fly Racing, Sinz, Shimano, GO211.com, OGIO, Cyto Sport, SDG, Toolshed, Sharp, and BMXPros.com

Curious as to what's going through the minds of some of the BMX racing industry leaders with the looming BMX Olympic debut? This is the first in a series of mini interviews called "An Olympic Perspective" about BMX, the Olympics and it's effect on BMX racing as we know it.
Bill Ryan is the head honcho at Supercross BMX. Supercross are the major sponsor for Sammy Cools, Canada's best chance of a BMX Olympic medal.
bmxultra.com: What's your take on the Olympics now they are just around the corner?
Bill: I am very excited to see what the Olympics bring for BMX. We are just now starting to see the hype build, I think it is a little late, but any time I can see BMX Racing somewhere other than a BMX track, I think that is a great thing.
bmxultra.com: What do you think of the way countries have selected riders?
Bill: Some of them have been pretty controversal and very political. Are the best riders going in all cases, no I don’t think so. Is there going to be a wide diversification of representatives from around the World definitely. Will that give BMX Racing a World Wide boost? I hope so.
bmxultra.com: What do you think the Olympics will do for BMX racing in general?
Bill:
I think it is giving the sport some much needed credibility, and will give us our 15 seconds of fame, it is up to us the Industry and riders to figure out a way to exploit that 15 seconds of fame to give BMX racing a much needed second wind to get back on the proper track.
bmxultra.com: Do you think the Olympics is a good representation of the best riders in BMX?
Bill: For the most part I think you have the top riders and then you have the World Representatives. My biggest fear is that one of the riders that are there to give their country a bit of noteriety does not get in the way of a true champion rider and cause them injury and prevent them from medaling. It may sound stupid, but there are a few that may not belong on that track with the World Elite.
bmxultra.com: What has more prestige for BMX Olympics or World Championships?
Bill: Tough call, I guess we will see. I know there are a few riders that don’t like the fact that the Worlds or in this case that the Olympics are all decided on one day, one race. One bad gate and the real World Champion may not be in the main to take the top of the steps. Or someone sliding out into you in a turn and again you lose your shot at the medal. Nothing worse than winning all day and having someone target you in your semi just to keep you put of the main.
bmxultra.com: As a sponsor of many riders do you get better value out of a rider with an olympic focus or NBL/ABA focus?
Bill: I would say we get the best exposure out of a rider that is well liked and friendly at the track whether it is an ABA Focus, an NBL Focus or an Olympic Focus. To me, they are all the best value as we try to promote them and they try to promote us. It is weird, from a co-sponsor position we had one company drop one of our Olympic focus riders this year because there was no ABA in her schedule. No, there isn’t she is going to the Olympics and that is her focus, I think that company is losing out huge because they don’t see the benefit in what she is doing off the track still and still has more fans and is still the best in her class. But they wanted ABA coverage so she was cut. Then we have other co-sponsors that did not want to touch an ABA focused Vet Rider who is leading points in ABA and NBL for the Vet/Masters Pro class, a pretty impressive thing. But they wanted to know if he was going to go to the Olympics as that was their focus. I think they lost out on a lot of potential exposure. To me it is better to have a great family of riders that works together to help everyone pursue their dreams. One helps the other.
bmxultra.com: Thanks Bill, and good luck to Sammy for the Olympics.
Look out for the next Olympic Perspective soon.

NBL Music City Nationals & ABA Summer Nationals
The Summer BMX Racing season is in full swing and the top BMX pros in the world have had a busy Schedule so far in 2008. With the Olympics coming up for some and going after USA National titles for others, the Pros of the Double A Marketing squad have been at 100% for the past few months. Kyle Bennett and Cristian Becerine both have had their main focus on the Olympics, but both have made a run at the NBL title as well in 2008. Danny Caluag and Steven Cisar have been focusing on the ABA title as well as hitting some NBL events, and Randy Stumpfhauser has held the points lead for most of the season in the NBL. With some big races coming up in the next month, the guys are getting ready. Here is how the riders finished up over the past few weeks of racing:
Cristian Becerine went to Nashville 3rd in the NBL Pro points and was looking for a big weekend to give him a shot at the NBL title. Cristian looks forward to a huge August with the Olympics and then a shot at the NBL title and after the incredible weekend he had at the Music City Nationals, he is one step closer to getting his first US NBL Title. On Saturday, Cristian just missed the win as he finished up 2nd. On Sunday, Cristian put it all together and won the Elite Men's main event. With these 2 great finished, Cristian moves into the lead of the NBL Pro points chase, just ahead of Randy Stumpfhauser. Look for some great racing at the NBL Grands come late August to decided the 2008 Champion. Cristian's sponsors include Free Agent, KHS, Fly Racing, SINZ, Kenda, THE Products, ODI, Sun Ringle, Shimano, Cyto Sport, S & M bars, OGIO, Thomson, and BMXpros.com
Steven Cisar has gotten comfortable on his all new Haro Group 1 SR race frame in the short month that he has been on it. It was no where more evident that at the ABA Summer national in Roseville. On Saturday, Steven had his best finish ever in the AA Pro Class in the ABA with a huge 2nd place. On Sunday, Steven was once again looking strong, but one bad main event held him back to 5th overall in the days AA Pro result. Look for a lot of great things from Steven in the near future. Steven sponsors include Haro, Troy Lee Designs, Vans, Oakley, Intense Tyre Systems, SINZ Racing, Rockstar, Stealth Hubs, Alex Rims, S & M Bars, SDG, and BMXpros.com
Danny Caluag has had a busy few weeks. First at the ABA Summer Nationals, Danny finished up 4th in AA Pro and 1st and 2nd in Pro Cruiser. Danny currently holds the Points lead in AA Pro and Pro Cruiser in the ABA. At the NBL Music City Nationals, Danny had an off weekend and made the main event only on Sunday, where he finished up 8th overall. Danny's Sponsors include Intense BMX, BAWLS Guarana, Fly Racing, Shimano, THE Products, SINZ Racing, Intense Tyre Systems, OGIO, Cyto Sport, Thomson, Oakley, GO211.com, S & M Bars, and BMXpros.com
Randy Stumpfhauser has been off to his usual consistency, but still impresses his fans and keep the GT Ultra Box in the AA pro and Elite men's main events. At the ABA Roseville National, Randy was looking like he would be racing for the win both days, but come main time a few crashes held him back to 7th place overall each day. At the NBL event, Randy was just off both days, not making the main event. Randy sits in 2nd in the NBL Pro points and is getting ready for the last NBL Pro Points event on the Friday night before the Grands to make a sure to go head to head with Cristian for the NBL title. Randy's sponsors include GT Bicycles, Bombshell, ODI, Tangent, Fly Racing, Sinz, Shimano, GO211.com, OGIO, Cyto Sport, SDG, Toolshed, Sharp, and BMXPros.com

Yes I am old school and I'm proud of it. I started racing in 1982 and have raced ever since. Back when I started the tracks were very different, tiny starting hills with small narrow gates with only 6 lanes, nearly flat corners, one jump per straight, actually it's hard to call them jumps since it was rare for your wheels to really leave the ground. Don't get me wrong I am glad that racing has progressed, but I love returning to the Warragul track (just under a 90 minute drive south east of Melbourne Victoria) each time they run a race meeting. The Warragul track snakes it's way through a nice green park with lots of trees which is probably half the reason why it creates a fun and relaxed atmosphere.
Warragul will be hosting a round of the Metro Plate series this Sunday. Fo you guys who hibernate during the colder months, if there is one race during winter worth pulling the bike out for it will be this one.
If you are heading down to Warragul, why not get into the spirit of things, leave your clip pedals at home and try the flat pedals for the day. I can't remember the last time I saw someone use clips in the money class down there, and it's rare to see them used in the other classes too.
For more information check out the entry form on our racing calendar.
See you there.

Roseville was the half way point in the 2008 ABA BMX PRO Series and season is shifting into high gear and the fans are loving it! Round seven was all Khalen Young! Haro Bicycles picked the Australian rider up last year and he is doing Tony D. and the gang proud! Khalen was the man to beat in Roseville and Khalen was solid as ever. Khalen nailed down the AA PRO win both days putting his stamp on the weekend and letting the other AA PRO's know he means business and wants the ABA BMX PRO title bad!
Saturday also saw the return of Haro's Steven Cisar, Steven was fresh off the Olympic Trials event held a couple weeks earlier in Chula Vista, CA. and he was taking names and going way FAST! Steven' first race back was a good one he scored a 2nd place finish right behind his Haro team mate giving them the one-two punch for the day. With a few more solid rides like this, you can expect to see Steven right in the middle of the hunt ABA BMX PRO Title and a brand new Suzuki RMZ450!
Another So. Cal kid that has been looking good is Avent Bombshell's Jarrett Kolich. Jarrett has won in the AA PRO class in the past and looked to be back on track for another win in Roseville. Two days of solid riding brought home two 3rd place podium spots for Jarrett.
GT Bicycles also had Joey Bradford stepping his AA PRO game up in Roseville. Joey put together an impressive weekend and brought home his most impressive finish to date. Joey finished up a very respectable 2nd place on Sunday. All his double top secret training he's been doing is really starting to pay-off for him and GT Bicycles.
With a list of riders like this, once again this past weekend shows just how deep the talent pool is on the ABA BMX PRO tour. There has been six different AA PRO winners in seven stops. That's very impressive!
On the Ladies PRO side we saw Arizona's own Dominique Daniels take another HUGE win on Day #1. ABA National #1 girl and girl cruiser turned PRO Dominique Daniels scored a second at least one win at each of the ABA BMX PRO Series events this season. If there is one way to win a title, it's by being that is super consistent. Not to be out done, current ABA National #1 Lady PRO, Alise "The Beast" Post was sitting right where she's used to being on Sunday. Alise brought home the top spot on Sunday after Saturday's solid 2nd place. The Alise Dominique battle is starting to take a nice shape, and the rest of the woman have really stepped it up as well to keep them honest. Stephanie Barragan continues to be a solid podium finisher as she showed in Roseville. Stephanie brought home the 3rd spot on the podium both days. Stephanie is due for another win any day now and we expect to see her on top the podium real soon. Chinese Rider, Mary Liyun also made it out to Roseville. Mary made her USA BMX debut at the ABA BMX Lake Perris event earlier this season and was very impressive. Mary has really been training and made another BIG impression on the USA fans by bringing home a 4th in PRO Ladies class. Mary will be representing her country in the Olympic Games coming up in Beijing, China. BMX really has become an international field. The ladies racing has really stepped it up over the last couple of years and the new crop of younger woman I keep hearing about making the move to the PRO class is very promising for more excitement to come.
Pro Cruiser saw home town boy Pauly Lange back on the gas! Pauly has been so close, so many times to the ABA BMX PRO Cruiser Title he can taste it. Pauly put the hammer down on Day #1 for the big win showing he still wants it Defending ABA BMX National #1 PRO Cruiser Champ, Danny C. had something to say about that though. "Easy Money" rode solid again in Roseville bringing home 2nd on Saturday following that up with a win on Day #2. Danny knows how to win titles and it looks like he well on his way to another one at the half way point in the season.
The Alabama Slamma' Barry Nobles was in the house as well. Barry rode well in AA PRO, but he also brought home a 3rd in PRO Cruiser on Day #2. Clayborn Bikes has done an awesome job this season getting Barry to all the ABA BMX PRO Series events. With all their help Barry has really become a threat to win the ABA PRO Titles in 2008. Crupi's own Tyler Brown was back from the USA Olympic Trials event as well and was lookin' super fast. Tyler nailed down a 3rd in PRO Cruiser on Day #1. VET PRO sensation, Kenth Fallen continues to hang in there with the young bucks taking a 2nd in the PRO Cruiser class on Day #2. I'm sure Bill Ryan and the gang over a Supercross are just stoked on Kenth this season!
Vet Pro was back in action too! This was a Kenth Fallen, DaleHolmes.com. Chad Street weekend. Supercross's Kenth Fallen continues to be "THE MAN" to beat in VET PRO right now. Kenth won both days in Roseville with DaleHolmes.com and Chad Street swapping out 2nd and 3rd place both days. Chad's been all over the podium this season and looks to be a title contender again. Dale's been busy taking care of the Free Agent World Tea. Hats off to Dale and the Free Agent World Team. Dale tells me they have about seven athletes' going to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China for BMX Racing. That's impressive!
The ABA, the city of Roseville, CA. and the entire OAK CREEK BMX crew would like to thank all the participants, families, teams, sponsors, and BMX industry for helping make the Summer National event such a huge success! Next stop, RAD CANYON BMX in Salt Lake City - Utah, July 25-27. We hope to see you all there!

We are just adding the finishing touches to the BSX2008 DVD and should have it all packaged up and ready to go by the end of next week.
BSX2006 and BSX2007 DVD's are still available at $20 each (not including postage). All three DVD's will be bundled together for a special price of $45.
We will make some short sample videos available soon.

NBL press release
- Music City BMX, Nashville, TN – July 18-20
Only three races remain in the NBL Pro series making this weekend’s Music City National in Nashville, TN the most important Pro Series National of the year. All of the top pros will be heading to the ‘Music City’ from July 18-20 and to honor one of North America’s most celebrated music scenes, the winner of Elite Men and Elite Women on Saturday will be awarded a brand new Epiphone G-400 Guitar. Music City BMX will also be prizing out a Gibson - Epiphone Les Paul Classic, signed by the pros, to one lucky winner along with 20 miniature replica guitars - Rock on!
Kuwahara/BAWLS Matt Pohlkamp turned the Pro Men’s standings upside down after stunning the critics with two huge wins at South Park. GT’s Randy Stumpfhauser still leads the men’s chase but Free Agent’s Cristian Becerine and Kyle Bennett have quickly narrowed the gap. Redline’s Kim Hayashi also won both races at South Park but still trails Race Place BMX’s Stephanie Barragan and Madison Pitts in Elite Women’s action.
In Master’s action, Free Agent’s Dale Holmes has resumed control of his destiny but Supercross’s Kenth Fallen is only 4 points back while Haro’s Logan Collins and Intense/Phantom On-Trac’s Kris Fox share the lead in Super-Ex. With the NBL Grands less than two months away, the NBL Pro Series may be crowning as many as four new Champions this year.

Crupi press release
Arcadia, California – Crupi Parts, Inc is proud to announce that Factory Elite Men Scott Erwood of Canada has earned a trip the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China! Scott competed against fellow Canadian Jimmy Brown in a trials event Saturday at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA. They were to have 2 rounds of time trials and then 3 races. The rider to win 3 of the 5 events would win and represent Canada at the Olympics. Scott won the first 3 events straight off so the final 2 races were not necessary. Not only did Scott win the event but he posted the track record with a lap time of 36.265 beating Mike Day's record of 36.6.
Scott's parents Bruce and Janet Erwood made the trip down to watch their son earn a trip to the Olympics and once the event was over, Bruce could not stop shaking as it then dawned on him that his son would officially compete in the Olympics. Greg and Richel Swingrover from Crupi were also there to show their support.
Best of luck to Scott this August as he competes in the first ever BMX racing event in the Olympics.

Rad Canyon BMX Gets Paved and BMXers Get Paid!
Rad Canyon BMX has been home to the ABA Great Salt Lake Nationals for over 10 years and for 2008 the Rad Canyon crew has stepped up their program yet again! One of the premier facilities in the country, Rad Canyon is always looking for ways to improve itself. For 2008 look for a fresh coat of asphalt in turns #1 and #2 which will greatly enhance the speed and flow of the world-class track. The asphalt turns will lend to the already fast and challenging track that will serve as the proving ground for the worlds fastest BMXers during the ABA Pro Series event.
Along with the new track improvements the Rad Canyon crew would like to help out those who make the trek out to Utah. In cooperation with Maverick Country Stores and Rad Canyon BMX there will be over $500.00 in cash cards and prizes handed out during the 50/50 drawings over the course of the weekend. Our friends over at BMXStars.com have pulled the pin on their website after many years of supplying the bmx racing community with profiles and photos. For the past couple of years Tracey has been taking photos for BMXPress magazine and I believe she had a photo or two appear in BMX World magazine as well. She will be giving the camera a rest and Dean will be taking a break from racing for the time being.
We wish them all the best for the future.

With both Kyle Horton and Chris Van Winden taking a bit of time off from racing we asked Issy Penglase to write up a bit of a report to fill you in on the racing she'd been doing the past month.
Mt Gambier, South Australia
On Saturday I didn't feel very well and I finished 4th overall in the Australian Vanilla Bean Country Titles.
In cruiser I raced 8-13 girls and ended up with a 3rd.
On Sunday I felt better and I was racing in the boys class and it was good to race with more people.
I made the semi which I was very happy with but I got close to finishing 4th in the semi but ended up 6th and missed the final. In the B- Final I finished 4th.
Northern Rivers - Wodonga, Victoria
I raced in the Boys again and was 5th in all motos . I didn't make the final but was good racing against the boys as they are harder to race against. In the B- Final I finished 2nd.
After racing was over I was pracitising on the track and over jumped the tabletop in the back straight I landed heavy on my front wheel and crashed over the handle bars.
I have my left wrist in plaster for 12 days but should be ok after that, I also have a big cut on my right hip.
How to buy One Bicycles products in Australia
If you would like to purchase a One Bicycles frame or accessories in Australia the best way to do so is to head down to your local bike store and place an order. If they don't know what you are talking about tell them to call Elite Cycle Imports while you wait and place your order there and then. After doing some calculations myself I have found the cheapest way to get One Bicycles products in Australia is through a local reseller.

There's no doubt about it, Chris Moeller and his crew at S&M are a patriotic bunch. The limited edition XLT redneck and XLT race stems are just a small example, but one that's sure to make a huge impact. I knew that the American's loved to celebrate Independance Day in style, but man, this is real style. Order yours today before they run out, for more information check out www.sandmbikes.com.

In my haste yesterday I lost the news page for all of June, with no backup. If anyone has a cached or saved version could they please get in touch with me by emailing webmaster@bmxultra.com. Even if you have just printed the page out.
I have started piecing the June news page back together, but there are some articles that I wrote off the top of my head about the Olympics in the media in Australia and the Australian Olympic team (before they were picked).
My web hosting company kindly offered to restore the page for $150US. However since bmxultra.com is a hobby it's difficult for me to justify paying the dollars, especially given all the other costs involved in keeping this website running.
If you are able to help out with bits and pieces of the articles I would be happy to hear from you. In the meantime I will be putting the press releases back up over the next few days.

I'm sure I don't need to tell you who Stephen Murray is, and if I do just google the name. I was sent the Stay Strong Collection catalog and thought the best thing to do is share it with you all. It includes products from Oakley, Sun Ringle, New Era and a whole lot more.
