It's less than three weeks now until the Alienation BSX, a Royal Children's Hospital fund raiser, will be on again on Monday 18 January 2010.
It will be the fifth running of the one on one backyard BMX race.
T-shirt orders
As per every BSX we will have $15 t-shirts available at the event but in limited numbers only. If you want to ensure you get your hands on one you can email webmaster@bmxultra.com and pre order a t-shirt in your size. Hoodies are also available for $30. Don't forget to send all your details including your name, contact number and size or sizes.
Entry form
If you have been looking for the entry form for BSX chances are you haven't found it, we don't normally release it until 2 weeks before the event, so keep an eye out, it's not too far away. We take entries on the day, so don't stress. What we do need to do however is get an indication of the number of riders who will attend BSX, so if you are planning on coming along please email webmaster@bmxultra.com and let us know your name, class, and the state you are from. We'll update the rider lists which is already growing at a rapid pace. Click here to check out the current list. In case you were wondering it costs $30 to race the event and that includes the 2 hours of free riding/practice before the event. You must pay the entry fee to ride the track. The $30 goes to the prize pool of the class you enter. We'd like to see a lot more riders get along to the event, especially female riders, so if the appeal of both BMX Press and XBR magazines covering the event isn't enough we might have to think up some other incentives, keep your eyes out for that.
Trophies
BSX has been running for four years so far, the Alienation BSX will be the fifth running of the event, and while riders and the BMX community are still supporting the event we'll keep it running. We thought we'd add a new element to the event this time around and we now have two new trophies. One for the Pro men and one for the Pro women, some of you might remember that we started off with a trophy for the 30 & Over class in 2009. There will be an additional trophy to recognise the little guys who enter the event to race against their heros and have a bit of fun. The two fastest riders that are under the age of 14 that enter the Pro Men's or Pro Women's class will go head to head to have their name etched in the trophy and maybe a couple of other goodies.
Riding session Sunday 3 January
There are still a couple of soft spots on the track along the tops of corners which we think is a good excuse for a riding session this coming Sunday 3 January. If you have time for a drive up to the Kinglake area email webmaster@bmxultra.com and let us know you are coming, we'll be kicking off at about 10am.
More riding sessions to be announced soon.
BSX2009 DVDs
The BSX2009 DVD is loaded with over 40 minutes of BSX action along with a rockin' all Australian Poison City Records soundtrack. They are available for $20+ postage. Email webmaster@bmxultra.com for payment details. A great Christmas gift for any BMX fan.

NBL press release
Previously announced 2010 fee increases rescinded.
HILLIARD, OH — CEO, Gary Aragon announced today that the NBL will reduce the previously announced increase on insurance fees for the 2010 season. The NBL recently renegotiated the terms of its insurance coverage and is passing along the savings to its member tracks. The insurance fee increases previously set to take effect on January 1, 2010 have been revoked so tracks can continue operating under current guidelines.
After completing the negotiations, NBL CEO Gary Aragon said, “The Board of Directors has tasked me with addressing issues of concern to our membership and track operators, and without question, this has been a top priority issue. I am very pleased that we can make this announcement at this time.”
NBL Treasurer, Jerry Patterson added, “It has been a long and very difficult process in getting to the bottom of the insurance rates and fees this past year. Since bringing in a new CEO to review all the expenses it has been a breath of fresh air to have someone that understands the need for review and negotiations. It is with great pleasure and in conjunction with Gary that a decision has been made to revert back to the previous rates to which all tracks have been accustomed. The finance committee never lost its commitment to deliver what was best for the riders, tracks, and the sport.”
The fee structure for 2010 will be as follows:
-Insurance Fees – Practice: $1 per rider up to $20, Local Races: $1 per rider ($20 min, $75 max), State Qualifiers: $1 per rider ($20 min, $150 max), State Championships: $150
BMXMAD press release (By Bodi Turner)
It all started Thursday night. Dad and I arrived at Sydney airport to join with many others that had been invited to attend this awesome weekend. We were picked up by the Under My Wing Red Bull Vans driven by Olly and Eddi. They drove us to a motel called the Overlander. We then met the other riders and Luke Madill and Cara. They then explained what was going on that night and Friday morning.
We woke up Friday morning at 7:00 to board the Eddi van at 8:00. We met up with the girls at Luke's house. Luke's house was amazing. We could see the 4 story high start hill from the road. We were given breakfast there. Sadly it was raining Friday so we couldn't ride the track though we were able to complete all the inside activities. They spoke to us about sport psychology and marketing. We then did a few activities. That night we had a BBQ and went back to the motel to sleep.
Saturday was again another 8:00 morning. We were driven to Luke's again in the Eddi van and had breakfast at Luke's. Saturday was sunny and hot, though we weren't going to ride the track just yet in case it was still really wet. Instead we went out and did gates and sprints on the asphalt. We had lunch then hit the track. The track is amazing! The start gate was huge though Luke had built a slightly smaller one for the weekend.
We were given four laps and then told to do a time trial. I just about went over the gate but I managed to come through for a second with Jake Lowe taking the lead. Practice was awesome and we learnt alot in such short time.
Sunday was the big day! People from all over Australia came to race. Many Red Bull staff were there helping out and of course the usual event and staging officials. We were split into ages based on the champbikx system. I was riding in the 16 yr boys. I won 2 moto's and Jake Lowe got me in the other. I made semi finals with Jack Buchorn, Steven Gedye and Aiden Vahtrick. I won the race putting me in an age final with Jake Lowe, Morgan peen and Daniel Willis. I got an amazing gate and lead the whole way! After the age final Luke put me, Jack Buchorn and Aaron Nottle together for an ultimate under my wing Champion final. (Jack and Aaron won their age races) again I got a really good gate and snapped out in front. I was winning all the way and won the race! I was awarded with the best looking trophy ever!
The weekend was the best ever and I learnt a lot on the camp. If I had the opportunity to do this again I would definitely say yes. And for anyone out there who is invited to this event again I would recommend you definately say yes! Red Bull really had it well organize and Luke Madill would have to be the best rider out there to hold an event like that. He gives advice whenever you need it and trust me the camp will not disappoint you!
Bodi Turner 1st 16 boys & 1st Red Bull Boys Champion
Thanks heaps Luke and his family and Red Bull for a great experience!

BSX2010, a Royal Children's Hospital fund raiser, will be on again on Monday 18 January 2010.
It will be the fifth running of the one on one backyard BMX race.
It was a busy weekend for us here at bmxultra.com.
On Saturday we caught up with 80's BMX Pro racing legend, Jamie Hales, who was a participant at the first ever BSX. He's signed three BSX2009 DVD's that will be available only at BSX2010. If you want to get your hands on those either make the journey to Kinglake on Jan 18 yourself or send a proxy.
Sunday was just as exciting, our neighbour has known Cadel Evans' family for a long time and organised a signed 2009 Silence Lotto Cycling Jersey (from his old team) to be auctioned at BSX. Not only that but Cadel had organised a remembrance ride through the bushfire affected areas that stopped off in Kinglake at about lunchtime so we got to meet him, he's offered to find a few more things to help raise money for the Royal Children's Hospital. A very generous gesture from the 2009 UCI World Champion road cyclist.
After that it was back at the track for a bit of a ride session. We put Cam Murray to work on the whipper snipper while everyone else enjoyed the riding. Thanks Cam. We set up the starting gate to put it to the test, it's been set up in the shed for all of winter and was running like a dream so a few guys got their gate on and dialed the track in.
Riding session Sunday 27 December
There are still a couple of soft spots on the track along the tops of corners which we think is a good excuse for a riding session this coming Sunday 27 December. If you have time for a drive up to the Kinglake area email webmaster@bmxultra.com and let us know you are coming, we'll be kicking off at about 10am.

World Cup Supercross winner, Sam Willoughby from South Australia , christened Australia’s biggest BMX track yesterday in Shepparton, central Victoria. The 18 year old rode on the country’s first international track built by the Olympic track builder, Tom Ritzenthauler from the USA. Willoughby was impressed to see the transformations done with a massive 12,000 cubic metres of dirt changed into a 375 metre track which includes two technical pro straights for the elite.
“I liked the long first straight and the start hill reminded me a lot of China (World Championships 2008),” said Willoughby. “I like the long first straight that you can peddle over. Really like the look of the third straight, there wasn’t a rolling option. Tom’s done a great elite rhythm section. It’s like taking the dirt jumping aspect. It won’t be the fastest that will win on that one.”
Ritzenthauler and crew built the Shepparton track in just ten day and he agrees that Australia is ready for this standard of track.
“Australia has some top BMX riders like Sam and this track will lift the standard,” he said. “It will benefit the area. I think it will be a great location for teams to practice on,” said Ritzenthauler. “We used a bit of China’s worlds and a bit of Adelaide’s worlds. The turns are the same as I had in Beijing. It’s got little bits of everything. I never build the same track twice.”
A keen group of Shepparton’s BMX riders turned up for the first try out. For local rider, 18 year old Shaun Cuthbert, it was a dramatic change.
“We have never experienced jumps like this,” he said. “We will be able to get to World Championships and know we can jump it. This is awesome to get someone like Sam over to check it out. Hopefully he’ll come back to race on it.”
Ritzenthauler praised the local track crew and was also impressed by a bit of help and from Australia’s track builder, Jeff Cartwright. “He’s great. We got to trade some secrets that was fun,” said Ritzenthauler.
The track will host the 2010 National BMX Championships in early May.
For a sneak peek at the new National Championship track in Shepparton – look at the news video on the Herald Sun link below.

Thanks must go to Greater Shepparton City Council including Mark Francis, Tom Ritzenthauler and the local track crew. Big thanks to bmxultra.com's Chase Collins and all the local riders who made this possible.

BSX2010, a Royal Children's Hospital fund raiser, will be on again on Monday 18 January 2010.
It will be the fifth running of the one on one backyard BMX race.
Welcome to new partners Poison City Records and Alpine Timber Windows and Doors.
The BSX wouldn't be a success if it weren't for the support of the many generous partners supplying product for raffles and auctions.
Not only does Poison City Records provide CD's and t-shirts for BSX prizes they also supply music for the DVD's, and since BSX is a flat pedal only race you can also buy Vans shoes at the store
in Brunswick Street Fitzroy or online at PoisonCityRecords.com.
Alpine Timber Windows & Doors is run by old school BMXer, Paul "Fletch" Fletcher, out of Mansfield. He's donated a built to measure custom timber flywire door which is valued at $300, and if you were at the Bushfire appeal race at Knox you will know this is going to be a very popular item.
Both Poison City Records and Alpine Timber Windows and Doors have been long time supporters of BSX.
The poster will be updated shortly.
Riding session Sunday 20 December
I have to thank everyone who came along to help with the track and ride on Sunday, the track now looks ready to race. There are a couple of soft spots on the track still along the tops of corners which we think is a good excuse for a riding session this coming Sunday 20 December. We might even break out the starting gate. If you have time for a drive up to the Kinglake area email webmaster@bmxultra.com and let us know you are coming, we'll be kicking off at about 10am.
More riding sessions to be announced soon.

bmxultra.com press release
The bmxultra.com team have finished out another year at the Victorian State Championships, hosted by the Eastfield BMX Track in Melbourne's outter eastern suburbs. Eastfield put in a lot of hard work to make their track the best and fastest that they could for the event and with the weather conditions going from hot, dry and sunny to wet and slippery it held up very well. A job well done by the crew at Eastfield that the track coped with the testing conditions.
Saturday - Cruiser
After a week of nearly solid rain the weather was kind the track was super fast in the race line but a little slippery lower in the corners.
Shane Jenkins (35-39 cruiser) competed at his 27th consecutive Victorian state championships and kept his streak of making the top 8 every year by riding consistantly through the motos and semi, a collision at the bottom of the start hill in the final meant that he had to start again from the rear of the field and make up a whole lot of ground. While Simon Anderson was on his way to his 20th State Championship win Jenkins made his way back through the field to finish in fourth place.
Jamie Bullows (35-39 cruiser) has been off his bike since the world championships in July and was feeling a little rusty. He had a day he would prefer to forget, starting off with a fall in the first round of motos, he came back to a win in his final round, but it wasn't enough to make the semi. The 2008 Australian Champion was happy to qualify for the national championships and looks forward to better preparation for that event.
Levi Collins (19-24 cruiser) has had a good return to form over the past 12 months since returning to the sport he had some tight racing in the cruiser class and settled for second in his final.
Scooby Guyers (19-24 cruiser) from South Australia made the trip across the border to make a tough cruiser final which included a bunch of AA pro riders. He did well finishing with a sixth place.
Mark Dobson (40-44 cruiser) is a local from the Eastfield track, but even with a home track advantage making a final in a wold class field was going to be a tough job. Mark nearly pulled it off, finishing with a fifth in his semi final.
Sunday - 20"
A big contrast to Saturday. A whole lot of overnight rainfall gave the track a good soaking and it looked very muddy during practice, it started to dry up as the day went on, until the rain started again during the finals. But the track held up well considering.
Chase Collins (18 Boys) clean sweeped his class to take the number 1.
Shane Jenkins (35-39 men) got off to a good start in the main in the wet following Simon Anderson through the first corner until he copped a bump from underneath he managed to keep it upright and held on for a third.
Mark Dobson (40-45 men) was having fun racing around with some tuff wheels on his bike, he admitted to be struggling on the gate with the wheel flexing so much, despite this he did well finishing with a sixth place in the final.
Levi Collins (AA Pro) was riding well in a tough field and was happy to make the semi final with 38 riders in the class.
Scooby Guyers (A Pro), Jamie Bullows (35-39 men) and Adam Carey (AA Pro) had to watch the finals from the sidelines.

ABA press release
The 2009 ABA BMX Grand Nationals was one for the record books. We had all three Olympics medallists in attendance, we had some of the closest ABA National #1 Title races in years, and we had many suprises through the weekend. ABA really stepped it up this year again. There were tons of excited racers and fans just chomping at the bit to get some laps for the weekend. The 2009 ABA Grands tracks has to be one of the best indoor tracks ever built! The riders were treated to a track that was built by ABA Master Track Builder, Billy Allen and his all-star cast, using more than 7500 cubic yards of dirt, the most ever for an indoor track. The track featured an enormous starting hill, a spectacular AA-Pro jump section that leaped over the AM section and a thrid straight that split into 3 straights.
Billed as the "Greatest Race on Earth", the racing absolutely lived up the hype. The first thing to draw attention, other than the amazing track, was the moto count. The Grands attracted 470+ motos full of the best riders from around the World. This year's moto count far exceeded 2008 and is validation of the hard work of the ABA and ABA Track Operators. ONE Bicycles Australia team press release
Isabella Penglase at the Victorian State Championships
What a week with the Victorian weather, The week before and close to 40c then States week we are all looking at the reports hoping the rain wont come. (It came!!)
Friday
Arrived Mid Afternoon and the place was pumping!!! It was great to catch up with faces and friends from all over the country in the BMX community. The Gate's for practice went through slow so we rested for a while then after 6pm a lot of riders left and the track become empty, and was awesome. Isabella just had her Cruiser there that day but felt really comfortable on it.
Saturday- Cruiser and Sprocket day.
Issy felt really confident going into the cruiser's she had a good meeting at Knox Thunderdome getting a win in both classes so she was amped- It's funny how a day can turn south so quickly.
Moto One -A 5th with 1V Kirra W6 Kellie Rankin and W7 Georgia Barnes all being too strong
Moto Two - The Start couldn't have been any worse, Blown of the gate with a gust of wind and unclipping Issy rode a good race to catch the pack and slot herself into 2nd in turn 2. She held this all the way down the final straight then she got bucked over the bars on the last roller on the rhythm section. Dazed and confused she now knew she needed a good result just to make the final.
Moto Three- Focused and showing good poise she managed a good race to transfer to the main.
Final- With a field that wouldn't look out of place at the Aussies, Isabella rode a good race and came in with a 6th, the 2nd Victorian and was pleased to see what needs to be done to catch the World plate holders, With another year in this Class all is looking good.
Sunday - 20 inch Championship day
First I must Say - The weather was not kind to us today!
Issy went out for practice and after a few big front end slides she sent dad of for some chunkier rubber up front.
Issy rode all the Moto's well with good races and results
A 2nd and two 3rds one 3rd she learnt the hard way of not shutting it down until the line.
Final - With a big down pour before the final it was always going to be hard for Issy and a wet track is not what works well with her. The Gate dropped and all got away well but Isabella got muscled a bit in turn one, she put some big cranks going around the outside and pulled good pace down the 2nd straight and slotted into 4th. With a very close and controversial call at the finish for 2nd and 3rd Isabella came in with a 4th and first Local in the top 5. So a 6 V Cruiser and 4V 20 inch to round off a large year with a heap of traveling.
Many thanks go out to One Australia, Thanks Shane! Also to Paul, Garry and the Crew at ECI thanks for the support and during the year and also the Whole One Bicycle team Cheers!!!!
See you all in 2010
Justin (CheekyBoy) Beattie Wins the Ten Boy class at 2009 Vic Titles Open
By Jim Beattie
The Victorian titles is one of our favorite events. The opportunity to race against a field of riders this good doesn't present itself very often.
Justin had been struggling with the gate during practice on Friday. It was very different to what he had been training with and on race day the rain just made his troubles worse. The first 2 motos saw him finish 2nd twice after hitting the gate hard both times. We took his new cranks off and went back to his old shorter ones. He won the third moto, and by the quarter finals had finally dialed the gate in. He ran a safe second in the quarter finals and won the Semi.
The final was set to be a tough one and proved to be exactly that, with Justin coming from lane 5 and out powering the opposition down the first straight. He held out for the win against concerted attacks at every corner from his 2 closest competitors.
Justin and family would like to congratulate Eastfield BMX club and BMX Victoria for hosting a well planned and enjoyable event.
This tops off a huge year for Justin. Highlights include winning the Australian title for the 1st time, the NSW title for the 3rd time, the Victorian title for 2nd time, picking up W4 in Adelaide and joining the ONE Bicycles Team Australia. Thanks go to all the people who helped made his year as successful as it was. These being all the members of the Gold skull crew who he practices with and against and who make him go faster, his coach Adam Carey who gets up in the cold at 7am and always has a smile on his face, Grandma and Granddad who get the No1 plates . Finally to Paul, and Grant from ECI, Shane Jenkins, and Miekel Rose for helping to make a little boys dream come true.
Justin rides a gloss black Expert ONE frame which he loves. This utilizes state of the art Triple Butted tubing to minimise weight and produces what has to be the stiffest frame on the market. His bike weighs in at 6.90kgs and he is a 42kg ten year old!. When your next in the market for a new frame make sure you have a good look at the ONE range.
How to buy One Bicycles products in Australia
If you would like to purchase a One Bicycles frame or accessories in Australia the best way to do so is to head down to your local bike store and place an order. If they don't know what you are talking about tell them to call Elite Cycle Imports while you wait and place your order there and then. After doing some calculations myself I have found the cheapest way to get One Bicycles products in Australia is through a local reseller.

Morphine Industries press release
Morphine Industries air extraordinaire Richie Dey made the solo trek to Morristown from south Florida over the Thanksgiving holiday to represent the Pink, Black and White. Being jam-packed in an Expedition with bikes mounted everywhere did seem to phase him when it was time to hit the track on Friday.
10X / 9-10 Cr - Richie Dey started the weekend off with a clean sweep of the US Open on Friday night, taking the top spot in the main on both bikes.
Putting the cruiser aside, Richie concentrated on the 10X class. Battling for the top spot again, he came up a spot short after some banging on the track settling for a deuce in the main
Sunday brought a new day and a different result. In a hard fighting 10X class, Richie once again claimed the top spot to end the weekend.
It looks like next stop for the Morphine Circus will be the President's Cup in Louisville. Stay tuned to see if it is the unveiling of the new team threads. We won't disappoint.

Morphine Industries press release
You just know it's going to be one of those road trips when Tim Dinger arrives in Atlanta with a mustache looking like a lost cast member of "My Name is Earl". During our 13 hour trek to Tulsa, Dinger woke up once to get some food, only to get shanked at the counter. Everyone got a real laugh....especially the girls working the counter. I don't remember it being cold in there but according to Dinger's "thermometer", it was freezing! haha!
Once we arrived in Tulsa, it was all business as the ABA Grands was our debut with HARO and the new HARO Race LT Frame. The new whips did their job on Friday at the Race of Champions starting with Damien Chrepko in Jr. Devo. He pulled a solid 2nd place finish, then headed to the Friday night Pro Spectacular to join the sidehack race with Blake Sawyer. -Not sure how they placed but he looked as stylish as anyone can while riding shotgun in a sidehack! On Sunday, Damien took 7th in a super stacked main in 15x. Not bad out of 48 riders!
Olijuwon Davis surprised us all by deciding to race after breaking his wrist at Disney and having surgery on it just 3 weeks before Grands. In true Morphine style, he went against doctors orders and took 2nd in 17& over open and 19-27X at the R.O.C.. Unfortunately, a little pain set in and hindered the rest of the weekend but he'll be back in no time. "OD" finished the year with a NAG 7 overall.
Doran Bradshaw rode hard in 31-35 cruiser battling guys like Zach Roebuck, GHP's Pedro Brown and FLY's Ray Hudson. "DB100" took 3rd at the ROC and 4th in the main at Grands and left with a NAG 3 for the year. Lookout 36-40....your class is getting a new rider in January.
A Pro, Jason LaRev laid it all on the line against 58 other pros, making it to semis at the biggest race of the year and finishing in the top 10 overall.
Hey, JRev....remove the gas hose before you drive away from the pump next time! I cant protect you every time with potato chips.
Tim Dinger looked good all weekend....throwing x-ups for the ladies and rocking the new "Morphine Pink" Rennen gear. Things didn't go according to plans but he is a man on a mission and he won't be denied. Be sure to check out GO211.com for views from Dingers helmet cam and some road trip shenanigans.
While we were at Grands, the Air Dog, Richie Dey was rippin' it up in Morristown in 10x and 10 cruiser pulling two wins and two second place finishes. Way to represent!
All said and done, it was a good weekend on an awesome track surrounded with great friends. That's what its all about.

Victoria’s Ziggy Callan was too quick for Beijing Olympian, Nicole Callist,o in the Skin Industrries 2009 Vic open state championships women’s final today in Melbourne. Despite a slippery track the 20 year old from Lilydale took the lead after the first turn to edge out Callisto and Bendigo’s Jaclyn Wilson-Thompson.
“We were all three were really close. There was a bit of a hairy second where I thought I would slip,” admitted Callan.
After missing last year’s title race with an ankle injury Callan says this win is the best of her previous state titles..
“The special wins are the ones you really have to work for. This one is special,” Callan said.
Callisto crashed on the last turn placing seventh giving second to Queensland’s Chelsea King. Wilson-Thompson placed a respectable third.
Fellow Victorian, Michael Chasteauneuf defeated a top class Australian field to take out the elite men’s race. The 18 year old held off an early challenge by Queenslander Dirk Winter. Chasteauneuf’s home track advantage continued as he held off a late challenge by Victoria’s Matthew Dunsworth. Dunsworth claimed second and Winter finished in third. The wet track took out national champion, Billy Jolliffe from Newcastle on the second berm.
In the A Pro it was another Eastfield rider, Bodie Turner with a win plus women’s winner was Lake Macquarie’s Rachel Jones. Victorian riders claimed 18 of the state championships titles on offer.
Australian BMX racers will head to Victoria again in May 2010 for the National Championships in Shepparton.
