Morphine Industries press release
THE ABA DIXIELAND NATIONALS, what comes to mind when you hear that? RAIN, rain, and more rain. But for the first time in about 8 years we had absolutely perfect weather, sun shining and highs in the 70's, we couldn't of asked for anything more.
So with the weather on our side finally, and the track being better than it ever has been in the history of Powder Springs BMX we knew this weekend was gonna be a good one.
Morphine Industries hit the Dixieland Nationals with only 3 riders, while the rest of the team was in Florida and Cali taking the weekend off from a gnarly spring racing schedule, DB 100, OD, and J-Rev took it to the mean streets, the Burbs of Atlanta, to handle business.
A PRO - Jason LaRev made the 30 minute journey to the race track still a little sore from Saturday nights activities down in Tampa the previous weekend. Jason didn't know if he was going to be able to race or not. But after taping up the hand, he handled business and got on top of the box with a 1st place finish in A Pro Saturday. Sunday he hoped to follow it up with another Victory, but a solid Bonk down the first straight kept him off the box with a 4th place finish.36-40X - Doran Bradshaw had a killer weekend of racing by getting two 3rd place finishes in one of the hardest classes of the weekend 36-40 cruiser. Then again pulling a 4th place finish Saturday in the super stacked 36-40X. Unfortunately Sunday in 36-40X he wanted to get his freestyle on down the rhythm section by doing a Front Flip mid race, it didn't turn out as planned, and ended up with the snowman, 8th place.
19-27X - Olijuwon Davis made the long trek down from Chicago Il. to show some of these east coast boys what Mid West pull is all about. And in typical OD fashion he didn't disappoint. OD horsed the comp on his Haro race LT, and rode across the finish line victorious both days in 19-27x, bumping him up a few more spots in the 19-27x NAG standings. If you haven't seen OD in action get to a track and check it out.Be sure to check the Morphine Crew out at up coming races in Sebring, FL - Dothan, AL - Woodbridge VA, Cape Coral, FL - Lexington SC.

ABA press release
The American Bicycle Association has been in the business of BMX racing since 1977. That's 33 years of BMX history in the making. We've decided to make all the years of ABA BMX race photos available online through www.ababmxphotos.com. As of now we have every photo uploaded on our www.ababmxphoos.com through the 2004 - 20010 seasons, with some older events sprinkled for some added ABA BMX history. We've just update the site with the last of the 2010 Great Northwest Nationals. Our goal is to have every picture from every ABA BMX National Series event uploaded on this site.
We are hosting the web site with the existing archival images already in a digital format, shot by BMXer editor/photographer Dan Mooney and past ABA photographers, and we will work from there. Once a month or so we will be adding vintage photos, so check back often. www.ababmxphotos.com was created for your enjoyment and all the images you see on this site are now available for purchase.
One Bicycles Australia press release
The One Bicycles team has been representin' all over the place lately and performing well coming into the Australian Championships. Keep an eye out on the blue and white colours flying high at Shepparton early next month.
Lake Macquarie's East Coast Championships
One Bicycles team member Justin Beattie wins the 11 year boy class at Lake Macquarie's East Coast Championships by Jim Beattie
Justin's weekend started with a trip down to Canberra's Melba track, He picked up a new set of wheels and had a ride with the Rose tribe who make up the majority of the ONE team.
Justin would ride with the Rose boys every day of the week if he could and going to Melba was a great warm up for what would turn out to be a tough weekend.
We arrived on Saturday for some practice and on his first lap he pulled his bike over backwards and landed flat on his back. 45 minutes later we come back from the chemist with him all patched up to find he has only 15 minutes worth of gate practice left. He made the most of this then worked on the rest of the very technical track for another half an hour.
Not a great way to start the weekend.
He won the first two motos from lanes 8 and 7. He drew lane 5 in moto 3 and fell in turn 1 while in the lead. This meant that he got lane 5 in the final which he won by releasing some pent up frustration.
He had everything going against him, tough competitors who had a home track advantage, rough riding, dodgey gate draws and two heavy falls. He lifted above all of that and out performed some highly rated competition.
Justin congratulates his mates Reece Rowbottom and Will Moran for pulling in 2nd and 3rd respectivly.
Justin's next big event is the Australian titles which he is working hard in preparation for and having been selected for the Australian team is also looking towards the upcoming Mighty 11's challenge against the Kiwis.
South Lakes Open, NSW
On Saturday the 24th of April 2010 the Rosetribe made their way to the Southlakes Club near Wollongong for a last minute shootout before the Aussies. The Club was running combined classes which made some of the racing very interesting! I entered the kids for 20” and Cruiser for a bit of a run and to get their race fitness up.
Mikayla rode in the 9-10 Girls 20” class and had some great competition from some of the girls in the usual 9 year class in Taneisha Griffiths (1ACT), Chloe Dallinger (3A) and Renee Williams (3N) in the 10 year class. Mikayla started her day with a shocker gate and chased hard to pull a second in her first heat. She did not do that again and won the next 2 heats comfortably. In the final she got gate 7 and her rivals were all on inside lanes. The gate drops and Mikayla pulled an amazing snap to lead the other riders out and down the first straight. She rode the lead all the way to the line for the overall win on the day.
Mikayla was to ride in Junior Ladies cruiser but numbers were low so I put her in the 8-10 Boys Class. She rode well with a couple of seconds and a third in the motos. In the final she landed gate 8 with the other three riders in the inside lanes. Gate dropped and she came out flying to chase young Kirk Cleaven all the way to the third straight where she dropped back a spot and finished the final in third. She hadn’t ridden the cruiser since the ACT’s and was enjoying herself on it. A good warm up for the Aussies. She also managed to get some prize money on the day.
Nikalus wanted to take away both the 20” and Cruiser class titles on the day in 11-12 Boys. On his 20” Nik was flying with comfortable wins in all three heats leading up to the semis. In his semi he showed his intentions and was well on the way to fulfilling his goal by a great win and through to the final. In his final Nik had some close competition in home boy Jiye Ellis (2N in the 11 Boys Class) who pushed Nik all the way and was leading to the end of the third straight when Nik got loose and caught his pants in his seat and nearly ripped them off himself. Jiye rode away with a great win and Nik got to the line in second, only to pull up his pants and have a good laugh. (Funny to watch on the video)
On Cruiser Nik was on fire and with Andy Hughes riding up a class in 20” and not riding cruiser Nik dominated the class. He had comfortable wins in all his heats and in the final he rode beautifully to take the win from his good mate Stephen Henderson. Nik was happy with his results and more especially his riding. Nik is looking forward to the Aussies this year and hopes to do well! He too was very happy with the prize money and had it spent before he got home, planning for a deposit on a new dirt jump mountain bike.
Joshua had a crash at Club racing the Friday night before the event and was very sore in his left hand which made riding uncomfortable on the day. He rode well in the 15-16 Boys class on 20” and Cruiser. On 20” he was mixing it up with a fifth in his first heat and a nice fourth in the second heat. In the third heat he came out flying and managed a third, giving him a spot in the semi. There were some tough competitors in the class including W6 Jake Lowe and his mate Kyle Hughes. Josh rode hard but only managed a sixth in the semi and knew it was now up to him to better that result on Cruiser.
He was riding his cruiser well as he usually does and placed fourth in the first two heats behind some talented riders. In his third moto he managed a good third and placed him well for the final. In the final Josh rode from lane 1 and had a great run up the inside of the first straight. He came in to the first corner in fourth and kept that position all the way to the line to finish the day placed fourth on cruiser. Unfortunately his payday was not as lucrative as his siblings, but Josh was happy with the way he rode considering an injury and a new track the kids had not ridden on until that day!
Now there is only a week and a half to the big one for the kids this year. They have trained well and their machines are in great shape (as only ONE’s can be!) and ready to take on the assault which is the 2010 Australian Championships. Hope to catch up with some friends and watch some great racing! See ya there!
Geelong Spectacular
On the 18th April Isabella raced her Last race before the 2010 Australian titles, with all the sprint training and skills work Issy has put in over the last 6 weeks it was going to be good to see how she performed.
We both first must thank Tom Siinmaa for what ever he said to her on adjustment in her gate start technique but it working a treat – A big thanks.
It was our second time to Geelong and well over due being the first time was Isabella’s first race meeting back in 2003 as a 4 year old so much has changed
The track was great a little technical on the third straight and a good size jumps in the first two straight so all was looking good.
With 4 strong wins and a win in the final Isabella had a good boost in confidence after the weekend and was getting good starts and first straight power producing good leads at the end of the first straight, the third straight gave Isabella some valuable time to work on her jumping and manual skills.
Thanks again to Utopia for all their support coming into this years Aussies- Come and have a look at there product if you see us in Shepparton and One bicycles Australia for their continual support.
Good luck to all competing in Shepparton and have a safe trip on the roads and arrive safe.

Morphine Industries press release
Week two of the sunshine state NBL Nationals rolled into Tampa BMX with the Morphine crew in tow. Once again a smooth track, tons of sun and a lot of racing action to be had.
You ever know that there is something that you need to do but can't quite remember. Then someone comes up to you minutes before the motos are going to start and says hey a few of your riders are not on the moto sheets .%@&#......then you remember that you forgot to register them. Thanks Erma.
Masters - Tim Dinger coming off some podium time at the Easter Classic, came back to Florida for a little more glory. Unfortunately, it appeared that a Friday late night grub session put the hurt on Tim that would keep him down for the weekend. We will keep the details to our self but trust we the man was hurting from both directions.
In true PRO determination, however, he suited up and hit the track on Saturday. With moments of grandeur in motos, his chicken wrap had gotten he best of him and he did not have what it took to be on the gate in the main.
Things took a turn for the worst with Tim showing up to the track on Sunday with a fever, chills and an all fours on the floor position. We had mercy on Tim and he pulled out and watched from the sidelines rooting on the rest of the Morphine Industries crew.
Super X - Jason LaRev, hit the track with his skill and flow on Saturday with a uno in motos. Getting an outside gate in a stacked semi unfortunately proved to be a day stopper. Jrev showed up Sunday pulling out of racing due to an injury that was sustained the day before. Rumor has it that a few boys tried to help a little old lady cross the road in Sarasota and things went bad. You may need to talk to him or Barry to get that story straight.
17-18X - Talbott Cross continuing to better himself on this road back to 100%, rode well both days but came up start to put this tire on the gate in the main both days. Watch out boys, soon that wrist brace will be off.
13X - Noah Reeves coming off a perfect weekend at the Easter Classic, Noah was looking to make the same statement. Hitting the track, Saturday brought about deuces in the motos and an uno in the semi. Then coming from lane 8 on the main, Noah finished with a solid 3rd. Sunday was a repeat of the same with deuces in the motos but he captured a spot higher in the main with another deuce
11X - Richie Dey came ready to race in one of the most hotly contested class. Saturday, Richie raced his way to a few 1st in the motos and put a finish on the day with a top podium spot. Sunday heated up with the class determined to try and keep Richie off the top spot. Taking no for an answer, Richie took all his motos . When main time came, Richie hit the gate on the way out and came from behind to take second into the last turn and was pushed of the track running out of real estate to take a second at the line.

ABA press release
BMX racing returns to the Binghamton area.
by Chris Edwards
After a two year delay we are pleased to announce the opening of Grippen Park BMX located at Grippen Park in Endicott, NY. with the opening race Friday April 23rd. For over twenty-five years BMX racing has been in Binghamton, NY but when the group running Cheri A. Lindsey BMX decided to join the sanctioning body American Bicycle Association (ABA) to better suit its future growth and align with other tracks in the area it was determined a move was needed. The new location is the former Grippen Park ice rink in Endicott, NY which was damaged beyond repair in the flood of 2006.
The new track is located inside the former rink with a roof overhead eliminating any rain outs that occur during a racing season. This also allows for a longer race season and is more attractive for bigger race events to be held at Grippen. The track is run by a non profit group with volunteers. Racing will be every Friday night with registration from 6:00PM to 7:30PM and racing beginning as soon as possible. Tuesday night racing will also begin in the summer.
BMX or bicycle motocross racing now a Olympic event is done on 20" wheel bicycles around a dirt track having jump obstacles and turns with up to eight racers at a time in a one lap race. There are no age limits young or old and all family members can compete so "no one rides the bench" and riders are grouped by age and skill level. For more information or to contact the track director visit the track website at www.grippenparkbmx.com.

We've been sent some new sneak peek photos of the latest "Big BMX" from Supercross. It's a 4X mountain bike frame, they already have their cromo frames, but this time in alloy.
This is all the extra information we could get from Bill Ryan over at Supercross "They are Easton ULR 7005 Double Heat Treated Aluminum and check out the Adjustable Horizontal dropouts they are trick!!"
The frame looks suspiciously like a beefed up Envy, is this possibly the first time that the BMX industry has something cool to give to MTB?

What a weekend of racing. The HRVfitness team was out in force.
Brandon Te Hiko led the way by smashing the competition and taking out the win in the 13 boys. Jaden Rice also put in a great performance by riding up a class and finishing 5th in the 11 boys. Tony Harvey took a step back to age for the weekend and came away with a win in the 30-34 class. Olivier Hoarau rode strong all weekend in AA. He made finals both days and managed to pull out a 2nd and 4th on a very technical pro track. The new Shep track is fast and furious; a few riders felt the brunt of the new track and needed some medical attention. But after a few tweaks hopefully the track will be race ready for the Nationals in May.

Morphine Industries press release
Its spring time and that means racing in the Sunshine State. It all started this past weekend with the NBL Easter Classic at Okeeheelee BMX in West Palm Beach, FL. For all of you that came and always wondered why the locals had big legs and big lungs….now you know.
High fives, definitely go out to Tommy Cross and Mitch Horne for putting together one of the best tracks on the planet and running on a smooth race.
Okee is hometown territory to part of the Morphine Industries team and we represented with a small crew headed by the Master Tim Dinger - (one word – sunscreen dude).
Masters – Tim Dinger demonstrated his smooth skill and style with moto wins on Saturday to take him to the Main. Getting a gate 8 spot made the race exciting as he fought his way to the inside and to a spot on the podium with a 3rd place finish.
Sunday brought about more of the same with a repeat trip to the Main. With a spot on the podium in his sites again, he got tangled up in a mishap in the 2nd turn causing multiple riders to take a dirt nap. Having to check up pulled him off the podium a 4th place finish.
17-18X – Talbott Cross getting his groove back after a broken wrist rode both days to narrowly miss the main. We are eager to get Talbott off the wrist brace and back to riding a 100%.
13X – Noah Reeves was on a mission this weekend making his hometown track seem like an easy days work. Noah started the weekend with a perfect day chalking up unos in the motos, semis and Mains. It was like Groundhog Day on Sunday. Noah repeated the same performance posting up hash marking all the way to the Main.
11X – Richie Dey was looking to turn heads by his high flying aerial display over the pro set on the third straight, however, it was business when the gate dropped. On Saturday in class, Richie hit a few top spots in motos and rounded out the Main with a 3rd after slipping a pedal out of the gate. Sunday was not going to be the same. Richie came out of the gate in the Main with a mission to hit the chalk line first and that is what he did taking the top spot.
The Morphine Industries boys are headed to Tampa for the NBL Gator Classic for another round of sunshine, dirt and glory. Then headed to powder Springs for the ABA Dixieland National. See ya there.

One Bicycles Australia press release
The Rosetribe drove down from Canberra to take a look at the venue for this year’s National Championships and to trial some gearing and tyres. The complex looks great and though it still appears a little unfinished in spots, it will be a great venue for this year’s Aussies, providing it doesn’t rain. The kid’s first impression was the track looked long and technical, with a huge first straight. Photos and video do not do this track justice. Having two pro straights and fast bitumen corners makes lines in to each of the three berms very difficult to judge. After a few warm up laps the kids thought they had some aspects sorted. It was also great to catch up with Paul from ECI who came over and met all the kids. The kids also got to meet their other Team mate Kyle Horton who was unable to race on the weekend as his entry could not be found.
Mikayla only raced her 20” bike in the 10 girl’s age class. There were only three entries for the event, which was disappointing, but as this was a training run, we were not too concerned. Mikayla found some great competition in Jemma Heraper from SA who challenged Mikayla all the way to the stripe on the Saturday with Mikayla winning all three heats on day 1. Overnight I stepped up Mikayla’s gearing to see what she could push on the track. Day 2 and she came out flying but it appeared that Jemma had got some distance back from her. Mikayla managed to win the first heat on the Sunday but lost the next heat to Jemma. It was now finals time and due to the horrid Deadman finals concept, it only ended up being Mikayla and Jemma racing for the final with little Millie Reed missing out. Both girls got great gates but Mikayla had no energy left to push the big gears and came in second in another close race. Congratulations to Jemma who rode well all weekend. We now know what we need to do for the Aussies and are so happy with the way Mikayla rode. Some hard training and some bike mods for the big event and we will see if she can plate again this year.
Nik was excited to ride the Aussies track and is looking forward to this year’s Aussies after his disappointment of 2009 where he was competing one week after getting out of plaster. This too was a test for Nik to see if his bike was set up for the track. Nik has been in good form in the 12 Boys class leading up to this year’s Aussies, with silly little mistakes and mechanical issues hindering better results for him. He managed to have either Josh McLean or Andy Hughes or both of them in every heat he raced on the weekend and this was good for him to see where he needed to improve. Day 1 and he managed consistent seconds and a close third. Day 2 and I increased his gearing too to see what worked better for him. Sunday he looked more comfortable in the first straight and even managed to lead Andy and Josh in to the second straight in a heat. When it came to the final he had third pick and was looking good for a great final when he pulled himself out of his left pedal and blew the gate. He had to chase from last again and managed to claw his way back to fourth by the second straight. He battled with his mate Brody Moore all the way to the line with Brody taking third by half a bike from Nik. Andy won the final with Josh in second spot. Back to the drawing board with the pedal issues and after a chat with his Coach, we may need to look at where to from here.
Josh was back on his bike and trying hard. He wanted to improve his position in the 15 Boys Class and was training hard and mixing it with some 4X to try for better results. In his warm up he looked quite comfortable on his gearing and liked the feel of the bike on the track. Day 1 and Josh was riding awesome with him sitting in second in the first heat until riding high in the last corner to drop back to fourth. In the next heat he also managed a fourth. In the last heat on Day 1 he had all the top riders in the class and struggled to better a seventh position over the line. That night after some discussion he asked to stay on his set up and stated he liked the feel of it. Easy one less bike to pull apart for me, I was grateful! Day 2 and Josh came out swinging with another fourth. This sat him in good shape for a finals berth. In the last heat before the finals he got shut out in the first straight and fought his way back in the second straight, but found himself in no man’s land and got boxed out again. When it came down to the stripe he had managed sixth, but this was not good enough for him to get through to the final as he missed out by one point. Josh was disappointed but like his siblings, now has a better feel for the track and how unforgiving it can be.
It was a good weekend for us all and we learnt a lot. We spent some good times with some great friends and had a few laughs. Thanks to Paul Burbidge-Smith for helping fix the bikes Saturday night. Thanks too to Wayne Hughes for the awesome coffee whilst we were building the bikes. A huge thanks to Karen and Rod at BMX MAD for having all the bits and pieces I needed over the weekend to take home and ready the kids for the Aussies. A special thanks to my beautiful wife for coming down to help out, with all that amazing wives and mothers do! It was great to have a few ACT racers come down and gave us a more comfortable weekend away. Next time we come to the track it will be to challenge for the Aussies. See ya all there.

As the Australian national championships approach riders from all over Australia will be racing at Shepparton this weekend dialling in their lines and having a blast. There's a whole lot of others just like me who won't be able to make it due to other committments or injury. What will they be doing? I'm sure any keen BMX racer with four full days off to ride their bike will find time to do the one thing we all enjoy. Me, well it's probably a few weeks before I can even think of riding a bike, so I'll be checking out the Ground Up DVD from On the Gate Films (ECI just got a batch of them in recently so your local store should either have it or be able to get it). Most likely the DVD will have grooves worn it in by the end of the four days. But we have to satisfy that hunger one way or another don't we?
No matter how you spend your Easter Break, be safe and happy BMXing.
