NSW and the ACT were the inaugural winners of the City of Wodonga Interstate Challenge when they defeated BMXV 1227 points to 1135 on Sunday at the Wodonga BMX Club.
Whilst NSW and The ACT won the overall day, Victoria was able to extract some revenge by winning the Pro Teams Challenge.
Southlake’s Leanna Curtis took home the big cheque in the 14+ Pro Ladies final. Frankston’s Flying Frenchman Olivier Hoarau proved too strong in the sensational 14+ Pro Men’s Final.

It was a great day of racing on Sunday at the Wodonga BMX track. It sounds like the Wodonga council are getting right behind the Victoria Vs NSW event with rumours that prize money has been set aside for the next two years.
There were around 40 men in the pro class including former ABA and UCI world champion, Warwick Stevenson. Warwick was hanging out with the GHP mafia and looked quite comfortable on a GHP that was borrowed from Tim Ward. He might tell you he's a little rusty but he looked strong and was hanging with the best of them. He looked to be having a lot of fun doing it too. Warwick narrowly missed out on the main with a close fifth in the semi. Don't be surprised if you see more of him back on the track.
In the Pro main there were seven Victorian riders and only Alex Cameron from NSW. When the gate dropped it was Olivier Hoarau who got the edge, followed closely by Alex Cameron with the rest of the field breathing down their necks. Matt Dunsworth reeled Alex in down the second straight and got the inside running for the next corner, relegating Alex to third. But Alex came back down the second last straight to pull up next to Matt only to find himself in the loose stuff and he went down. Tom Siinmaa slipped into third, followed by bmxultra.com's Levi Collins and Kyle Horton. Sixth went to Dave Habicht, then Alex Cameron and Bodi Turner.

Alex Cameron at Vic Vs NSW
The 2010 Australian Elite Champion, Alex Cameron, took on a huge field of riders at the Victoria Vs NSW clash at Wodonga yesterday.
He rode extremely well in the heats and was through the quarters and semi comfortably. He was the only NSW representative In the main. While fighting it out with Matt Dunsworth for the second place he slid out and went down in the last corner and had to settle for seventh place.

Papendal - the Netherlands - Marc Willers and Sarah Walker won the first ever UCI BMX Supercross World Cup presented by Swatch in the Netherlands. Both BMX-riders from New Zealand conquered heavy winds and a difficult Olympic course at Papendal. Dutch rider and hometown favorite Jelle van Gorkom became second, just before French rider Joris Daudet.
At the press conference afterwards it was all smiles from the big man Marc Willers. In the previous rounds Van Gorkom and Daudet dominated the field, but in the final the two riders tangled together and Willers came up the strongest. He admitted being really tired after racing in the heavy wind. “This track is really brutal”, is what Willers said about the conditions. “Without the wind this track is workable though. It’s good for the fast riders and the technical riders. But I was hurting! It’s longer than we are used to and if you make one mistake you just arrive physically drained.”
Dutch rider Van Gorkom, cheered on by the big home crowd, was happy to finish second on home soil. “I think Marc was the strongest in the final. All eight riders were strong enough to win and today Marc did very well. It was really nice though to ride here in front of an crowd full of Dutch people.”
Sarah Walker dominated Friday and Saturday of the UCI BMX Supercross in the Netherlands. Even a small error in the final did not challenge her first position and she crossed the finish line with a couple of meters advantage. Right after Willers won, she went over to congratulate her fellow countryman to celebrate the ‘Kiwi double’ in the Netherlands. “I felt really good and with these winds you just pedal hard and hope”, is what she said about the final. “I enjoy these kinds of technical tracks, after all riding BMX is about jumps.”
The next stop of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup Series will be in London (UK), August 19 & 20 after the UCI BMX World Championships 2011 in Copenhagen, July 27th – 31st.

Romana Labounkova (CZE) surprise winner of women time trials
Papendal The Netherlands - Dutch BMX riders Jelle van Gorkom (picture) and Raymon van der Biezen were first and second at today’s time Superfinal time trial. The fastest 64 riders qualified out of 134 Elite men for the finals on Saturday, 32 Elite women riders progress into the finals out of 42 women.
Today’s time trials are part of the first official UCI BMX Supercross World Cup Series sponsored by Swatch on the brand new Supercross track at Papendal. The track is a near replica of the Olympic track in London.
European Champion Van der Biezen was excited about his second place finish on home turf. Insiders say that this new Supercross track is the most challenging and technical track worldwide.
Van der Biezen said: “We have been training at Papendal for a month now, so we do have an advantage over other riders”, says the full time BMX-pro. “It is a privilege for us Dutch riders to be able to train on this track. It is very demanding.”
Van der Biezen believes he can even do better. “The wind was of great influence today. In BMX time differences are extremely small. Because of sudden wind, it’s sometimes hard to find the perfect line during a jump. I know I can go faster!”.
Corben Sharrah (USA), fifth in the time trials and winner of the first stop of the 2011 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup series in Pietermaritzburg was enthusiastic:
"It's big and it's good. It's the kind of technical track that I like. For the progression of the sport this track is really good, because it's so difficult. It must be really nice for the audience to watch us on this track."
"I feel really good and comfortable about the track. It suits my style, which is calm and effortless. The track will probably have some casualties though as you can see today."
The 64 best BMX elite men and 32 BMX elite women start the finals in Saturday 28 May at 2 pm CEST / 12 GMT.

It has always been said, that if you are at the top in the Florida State Championships, then you are at the top in the country. Morphine Industries’ riders proved once again that they are truly at the top.
The Florida State Championships at St. Cloud BMX capped off another great 2011 race season in Florida. The season this year consisted of 5 qualifiers starting in November and coming to a climax last week.
Elite Men- “Money” Mike Kapes showed up to the championship with a point to prove…. that he is BACK. Battling all year with Florida Elite riders Tyler Faoro and CJ McGuire and others made for some of the best racing experienced by the Florida BMX community.
Mike started Saturday by horsing the competition down the first straight in his motos with a clean 1-1-1. Meeting Tyler in the second moto and leading wire to wire set the stage for a great showdown in the Main. Mike went into the Main leading the points by a slight margin but it did not matter when the gate dropped. Mike once again led the pack from wire to wire to secure the Florida State Elite Pro Title. Welcome back Money!....Hey Mike, Smile to the crowd they want to see those pearly whites!
14 Expert – Noah Reeves came into the final race just out of the top spot. Noah drew the stacked motos for the day with Preston Wood, Cameron White etc. Noah went to work and grabbed the 1-1-1 in motos battling to the end with Preston. Noah took lane 2 in the main which proved to be an omen as Noah took 2 in the main and finished with a 2 in the Florida State Series.
12 Expert – Richie Dey strutted into St. Cloud with a command on the top spot in both 20” and Crusier. A hard fought season of top racing gave Richie a big cushion in points and day with no pressure. Richie rolled through his motos and took his place at the gate for both Mains. When he crossed the white line Richie was Florida State Champion in both 20” and Cruiser.
This weekend capped off a great Florida State Season for Morphine Industries as well as the BMX community in Florida. Once again the SSA put together a great season but it couldn’t have happened without the support and participation of the BMX riders in Florida.

Last Sunday the A.C.T. members of the ONE Bicycles Team travelled to the Albion Park “Southlakes” track for their annual Open. The track had recently been changed and the kids were excited to have a ride. This event also incorporated the third round of the A.C.T. Dynamite Series for 2011.
Mikayla was out to try and keep up a busy training schedule and put that in to race mode! Mikayla had a small field of riders and a new comer to her age class and a local of the track. This girl was a big girl and very strong and powerful! Mikayla rode within herself in the first heat rolling through for a second. In the next heat she stepped it up and went out strong blitzing the field convincingly. Mikayla also managed to secure her second win in the third heat and was through to the final. In the final Mikayla battled local girl Emma O’Hearn all the way to the line taking out the final. We dusted off Mikayla’s ONE Cruiser for a run and found her in a Ladies Cruiser field with older and some younger riders. Mikayla rode the little ONE well and managed firsts and seconds through the heats. In the final she took off well and sat in second spot by the first corner. After a big chase she crossed the line second behind 17-24 year rider Kristylee Martin. Mikayla was happy with her racing on the weekend and acknowledged she needed some more work on her pumping in the technical sections of the track.
Nik was looking forward to some great racing and a positive event after being taken out in the quarter finals at this year’s Aussies. There were some quick guys in Nik’s class and even with Andy Hughes riding up a class, Nik still had work to do to secure a good result. Nik came out in his heats like a scolded cat and secured two wins and a second in the heats, making it comfortably through to the final. When the gate dropped in the final, Nik had a slow reaction and gave the field a small head start, but managed to haul them in by the first corner. After some clever riding Nik found himself in third chasing the two leaders who had their own dice happening. When the dust settled, Nik could only manage a third spot, but was happy with how he raced on the day. Like Mikayla, we dusted his ONE Cruiser off and had to do a minor rebuild at the track fitting new cranks and gearing. As we didn’t have the amazing SNAP gear available for the bike, we settled for a cheapy chainring and hoped it would hold on. Now we have sorted out his gearing we will have to fit the SNAP gear and get the cruiser looking and feeling as smooth as his 20” ride. Nik was on fire on the cruiser and won all his heats heading in to the final. In the final he smashed the gate and had a good lead in to the first corner. Some nice bike control and skill saw him finish the final in first place ensuring a great weekend of racing for him.
Josh had decided to sell his ONE cruiser to focus on his 20” and entered himself in the A Pro class as well as his age class of 16 boys. In A men he struggled a little with the older and faster riders finishing fifth in each heat. Joshua was having great gates and first straights but the field would pull away from him through the rest of the track. Josh realised he needed to step it up a little more with his strength to keep pace with this class and was still happy with the way he rode. In 16 boys, this was a different story with Josh looking to have the class mastered. Josh’s gates and first straights won him three of the heats and sitting in top spot for the final. Josh smashed it in the final and came out confidently and strong, with the holeshot and leading the field to the finish line. It was great to see his recent training finally pay off for him and the win was encouraging finish to a big day of racing.
All three kids had a great day with 3 firsts, a second and a third for the day! Not a bad result for the Team! It was also a great opportunity to have all the bikes lined up at the event for passersby to have a look at the range of ONE bikes available. With the bikes fitted with top quality SNAP gear they looked a treat and definitely a favourite for the locals of the area, who would stop and check out the bikes and ask where they could buy them. Fortunately the bikes were sitting beside the BMXEDGE Pro shop where they were also for sale along with the amazing SNAP products.
I would like to thank the always supportive Shane Jenkins for his ongoing belief in the kids and the BMX industry. To the family that is ECI, once again without their support we would not have the best frames and parts out there on the bikes. To Scotty Hand, a huge thanks for the amazing SNAP products the bikes wear. These would have to be the best gear out there in BMX land and hope they kick off with other racers, as it is top shelf gear at a great affordable price.
Next event for the Team is the Mighty 11’s and NSW State Pre Titles at the Liverpool track. Mikayla has been training hard for this event in an attempt to represent her country in NZ later this year. Mikayla is no stranger to the Liverpool track and has had an amazing winning history at the track, which gives her a positive history heading in to the event.

Second stop UCI BMX Supercross on Olympic replica track
Papendal, The Netherlands 21 May 2011 - On 27 and 28 May the next edition of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup presented by Swatch will stop in Papendal, The Netherlands. This Supercross World Cup is the second leg of the 2011 World Cup series and the fifth event to count into the 2010-2011 UCI BMX rankings allowing the riders to accumulate points toward their country's participation at the 2012 Olympic Games.

The brand new permanent Supercross track (picture) is the most advanced and challenging track in the world at the moment and is home to the Dutch team, although other teams are welcome to use the facilities as well.
The design of the Papendal track is almost similar to the design concept for the 2012 Olympic Games track that currently is being constructed. Track Designer Tom Ritzenthaler will take the experience of the Dutch track forward into shaping the final track for the London Olympics.
Elite Men
Corben Sharrah (USA) will lead the USA men's contingent as the number-one ranked rider in the UCI's Supercross World Cup standings. The 19-year-old took the win at round one of the Supercross World Cup in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. The world of BMX is also pleased to see #365 Mike Day (USA) return to BMX Supercross racing after a 1 ½ year absence due to a back operation. Last time BMX fans saw Mike Day in splendid form was at the 2009 UCI BMX Supercross in Chula Vista. According to experts this Dutch track will certainly suit Day's technical style.
Marc Willers (NZL) will be eager to improve his performance of Pietermaritzburg. In South Africa Willers looked set to make the final but the friendly Kiwi crashed in the semi-finals. Joris Daudet (FRA) also looked very strong on the African ochre-red clay, winning the time trials and finishing second in the main final. Khalen Young (AUS), who was very pleased with his third place podium result in Africa. Young looked strong and determined in South Africa, will he be fighting for the podium in the Netherlands again?
Current World and Olympic Champion Maris Strombergs (LAT) is unfortunately still on the injury list. Strombergs is planning to return to BMX Racing in July for the UCI BMX World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Experts also expect big things from the Dutch Army. The orange team of coach Bas de Bever will have a slight home track advantage. The experienced riders like Raymon van der Biezen #121 and Jelle van Gorkom #37, Sander Bisseling #40 are reported to be very fast on this challenging track.
Elite Women
Manon Valentino (FRA) certainly surprised a few with her convincing win at round one of the BMX Supercross in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. Valentino will be keen to proof that her Pietermaritzburg win was well deserved by mixing it up in Papendal as well. Others to watch for are the 2009 BMX World Champion Sarah Walker (NZL), 2010 MTB 4X World Champion Caroline Buchanan (AUS) and 2009 junior BMX World Champion Mariana Pajon (COL).
Last but not least, current World Champion, Shanaze Reade (GBR) is making her return to BMX racing and will surely aim for a win, if not just to build her confidence on this Olympic replica track.

Some serious boredom was about to set it at the Morphine Industries compound, so we packed the limo full of HARO's and sent a few of the boys to Nebraska to make crop circles and race BMX. After 18 hours in the car, the boys were ready to throw down in the dirt....and here's how it all shook out.
Olijuwon Davis and Jason LaRev were ready to give the A Pro class a one-two punch, right up until Jrev got caught up in some carnage that resulted in Justin Dodson breaking his femur and LaRev going down hard, injuring his knee. (Hoping for a speedy recovery for Justin) Although Jason's knee looked pregnant, he was still able to make mains both days with a 5th and 6th. Olijuwon was on fire, as usual.....but so was Scott McMahon. These guys battled hard all weekend but Scott was on point, so OD had to settle with second on day 1. Day 2 brought more of the same, only this time OD slid out in the first turn in the main, so he got the snowman on Sunday.
Speaking of guys who are on fire....Doran Bradshaw has been on a mission, winning 7 of his last 8 nationals! DB100 walked away with a double on Saturday and a win in 36-40x on Sunday. He had our buddy Ray Hudson from Fly Racing, keeping him honest all weekend, along with alot of other fast cats so his secret training must be working!
And finally.....we got to "unveil" Charlie Hunt to the 28-35X class. On Saturday, CH3 pulled some heavy hitters in his class to take home the win at his first race back. Sunday wasn't quite as successful but 2nd place isnt too shabby! Overall, it was another successful weekend on the track and as always, pranks were plentiful. The mayhem continues as we roll in to NashVegas and Rockford.

It was a good weekend for the ONE/Kenda team worldwide.
In Holland, Kevin van de Groenendaal won the Top Competition round 2 in Boys 12 and Denzel Vakkers got 2nd in Boys 13.
In France Jordy van der Heijden got 7th in Round 7 of the French Cup for Elite Men, and in Latvia Kristers Lejins won the UCI Category 5 Latvian GP in Elite Men.
On the other side of the ocean Gabriela Diaz from Argentina got 2nd in the Panamerican Championship in Colombia.

ONE KENDA press release
In Prague, Czech Republic, round 5 and 6 of the European Championship for Junior and Elite men/women were held under the east european sun.
In the Boys 11/12 main, ONE/Kenda's Kevin van de Groenendaal from Holland, lost his pedal while in 2nd place. He's looking forward to 2012 where he can get rid of the flat pedals.
Round 5, in Junior Women, both Nadja Pries from Germany and Simone Christensen from Denmark made the main.
Nadja was leading the main with her incredible fast gate, but made a little mistake that put her in 2nd place. Simone got 7th.
In Elite Women Aneta Hladikova took her ONE to a 3rd place in her home country.
ONE/Kenda's Elite Men rider Jordy van der Heijden from Holland missed the gate, but was on Fire and made it to 2nd in the first turn and finished in 2nd. That was an amazing race !
Round 6 was almost a copy of round 5.
This time last years World Champion Chris Christensen from Denmark made the main in Boys 15/16 and got 5th.
In Junior Women Nadja Pries was once up front and got 3rd, with ONE/Kenda's SimoneChristensen in 5th.
Jasper Peters from Holland crashed hard in Junior Men and broke his pelvis and had surgery this week. So we wish Jasper a fast recovery.
In Elite Women Aneta Hladikova from Czech Republic was leading but somehow messed up and finished in 4th.
Jordy van der Heijden took 7th in Elite Men after he nearly got over the first turn.
Overall these were great results for the ONE/Kenda team riders.

It’s Spring break baby, and racing in Florida is the place to be. The Easter Classic and the Gator National in Florida are a staple of the NBL race season with a bunch of pasty white northern BMXers coming down to bask in the sun and get their race on. So we got on the band wagon and sent over a few riders hyped-up on Peeps and pastel-colored Whoppers.
EASTER CLASSIC
Elite Men- Mike Kapes hit the track Saturday with a gate of four other AA Pro riders. Not to be denied on his home track, Mike cruised through motos with a 1-1-1. The drop of the gate for the main proved to be the same as Mike wenrt wire to wire to take the podium’s top spot.
Sunday combined the A-Elite Men with AA-Elite Men for three racks of riders in the Elite Open. Mike again cruised thru motos to line up at the gate for the main in Lane 1. Mike horsed the gate to battle with the newly arrived Florida resident Dennison Smith for the top spot. When the white line hit Mike took the third spot on the podium.
14 Expert – Noah Reeves hit the track with a loaded class of 16 riders. Saturday turned out to be a day of hard knocks. Noah took a 1-6-1 in the motos with a wreck in his second moto. When the gate dropped in the main, Noah found himself unable to clip in as he rolled down the first straight taking up the roll as clean up rider.
Sunday started off the same as Saturday with Noah battled with Preston Woods for the top spot in motos taking a 2-1-1. Rolling through semis, Noah drew lane 5 in the semi. Hitting the gate is never good and especially in a stacked class. Noah took a solid 4th in the main.
12 Expert – Richie Dey coming off a perfect weekend from the previous race was determined to keep it going. Saturday, Richie took to the track on both 20 and cruiser. He rolled through motos on 20 with a 1-2-1 and capped the day with a 3rd. On cruiser, Richie battled with Cole back and forth allday to take a 2-1-2 and a final deuce in the main.
It’s amazing what an ice bath and a 6oz special medium well can do. Richie hit the track again on both bikes to rack up a 1-1-1 in both sets of motos. Main time was about the same as Richie top the top spot on both bikes.
Morphine Industries will be split up this weekend with part of the crew hitting the famed track at Okeeheelee BMX for the Gator National and the rest of the crew loading up and going cross country to Nebraska to the Cornhusker National.
We are stoked to finally have newest member of the crew Charlie Hunt hitting the track in Nebraska. Have fun with him boys in NE! The back of his jersey will be fun to look at.
GATOR NATIONAL
Elite Men- Mike Kapes took the opportunity on Saturday to do what he is best at WIN and make MONEY. Mike rolled up to GA to lighten the load of Long Country BMX and bring home the win and a wad….of cash.
Sunday was back at the Gator and all business. Mike rolled through the motos and straight to the main with a solid stacked class of local pros and out of towners. Mike draw lane one and throttled down the first straight with the likes of Dennison and Tyler. With everyone meeting in the turn and getting bottled up, Mike was able to get through and finish with a strong fourth.
14 Expert – Noah Reeves took advantage of some home track skill along with fellow local rider Preston Woods to wow the crowd as the youngest riders to pound the Pro set all weekend. Noah rolled through motos both days with unos. However, with commitment there sometimes comes a price. On Saturday railing the turn in the main to set up the 45 ft double, Noah was forced to check up and had to roll the pro set causing a 4th finish. On Sunday Noah, came unclipped horsing the first straight and turn causing him to roll the Pro set again and resigning to coast in to round up the field. Hey Noah, we will take going for it everytime!
12 Expert – Richie Dey….speaking of going for it what better rider does that than Richie. Richie had a great weekend swapping handlebars and banging with his bud Cole Accord both on 20” and cruiser. Richie went to main both days on 20 taking a 4th and 6th. Cruiser was just as tough as Richie settled for a 3rd and 2nd.
Morphine crew is spread out of the next week or two with Florida riders headed to St. Cloud for the Florida State Championships May 21. The same weekend we have a stacked house headed to Nashville and Music City BMX. We are coming at yeah....be ready!

2011 National BMX Championships - Cairns Queensland by Issy Penglase
This was a quick trip for me and dad as we had to get back to Melbourne for my Uncle Troy and Teresa wedding, so it was only 20 inch this year.
We flew out late Monday night and arrived in Cairns Tuesday morning at 2 am - a quick cab ride and a bed was waiting.
Tuesday
I woke up Tuesday morning with little sleep-in but I wanted to get to the track and hit it up.
It was rego and practice day and I wanted to learn the track and also have a look at my opponents. The biggest thing I wanted to work on was my jumping and manuals to get rid of the butterflies, after plenty of laps I was feeling good and it felt smooth on the track.
Wednesday
Today was practice and pre-titles day. As I start to do my practice laps I am aiming to get faster down the first two straight as in previous years it hasn’t been that fast which meant I haven’t been able to keep on the wheel of some of the girls.
The afternoon it was pre race and dad wanted me to ride hard but also practice different lines for race days. Race one I came in 5th and knew I could do better as the girl in front was holding me up a little. Race two tried a few different lines and came in 5th again but in the third race put what I was thinking I needed to change and had a strong 4th,I was happy but knew I needed a faster time at Dynamite and 20 inch race day .
Thursday
Pro/Champ/Dynamite day didn’t start of well as our Victorian State Team Jerseys didn’t turn up so we needed to race in other jerseys. It was a great experience riding with the rest of the Champ/Pro bike riders and it was my first time to do a time trial - Except at Shanes BSX 2011.
I was up second for the time trial and only got nervous as I stood on the gate ready to go. The gate dropped and the nerves left, I tried to ride as smooth and clean as possible; as the commentator read the results I had qualified 9th so was pretty happy.
There were no semi finals so I knew I had to push hard to get into the final, I pushed but couldn’t get there and finished 5th in all 3 mottos and a little disappointed. I had learned from not putting in a pedal or two in a few jumps and also the first straight needed to be stronger.
Friday
On Friday I was focused and really thought about what I needed to change, I set out to do 3 practice laps as I didn’t want to be tired for racing.
The First race I just concentrated on the first straight and pedalled where I could and it paid off with 2 seconds, I was even happy that I had dropped my race times a heap over the week. The third race I backed off a bit and got a 3rd (forgetting that was my lane call race)
Semi final
I knew I need a good gate and hang with the pack down the first two straight and I had a good third straight and was one of few girls to manual and jumping down there. I just needed a top 4.
I got a great gate from lane 7 and over the roller made some ground I was sitting second to the first double and the rider in 3rd hit my back wheel and I went down hard and fast, I started to get up and ride but my bike was damaged and I walked it across the line, not the way I wanted to finish the 2011 Aussies but was over the moon on what I learnt this year, With a new ONE BICYCLE about to be build up I want to win next year at Mt Gambier 2012

A war of words has erupted between the BMXNSW president Neil Cameron and BMXV president Wayne Berryman in the lead up to the May 29th BMXV Vs BMXNSW race event. Speaking about the race meet over the weekend Mr. Cameron said, “ BMXNSW is keen to work with BMXV to make this event a major calendar item for both states.”
He continued “I am very keen to see this event become a major draw card for both NSW and Victorian riders in the coming years. The fact that NSW will give Victoria a lesson in BMX racing is merely secondary to our combined efforts in developing the sport! Interstate rivalry between NSW and Victoria is a long-held tradition in many sports – BMX is no different with NSW keen to show the Victorians how BMX is done!”
On hearing the comments Mr. Berryman stated “I hope Neil brings as many riders from NSW he can, he will need them. Victoria is a proud BMX state and we do not intend to let the trophies travel north of our border. I have no doubt that this race meeting will become a premier race meet each year. Both states have some incredibly talented BMX racers and I am sure that they will put on a great show over the weekend of the 28th and 29th of May.”

We were off to Cairns for this year’s Aussies and were looking forward to catching up with family and racing the talent from all parts of the country. We were expecting warm weather and wet conditions and were not disappointed. The track looked fast and technical but not overly hard. The kids were excited about the gate and the track and had trained hard in the lead up to the event. We were also excited to receive all our new SNAP products to fit to the bikes for the event. This is a new sponsorship for the NSW/ACT chapter of the One Bicycles team which we were very grateful for, as they are beautiful products.
Mikayla Rose knew she had some tough racing ahead of her in the 11 girl class as Club local Ruby-Mae Hoad would be in her comfort zone and keen to take back the advantage she lost at the ACT’s to Mikayla. Along with Ruby-Mae, Mikayla also had 1A Shelby Green from Townsville and unknown rider Celeste Barr also from Townsville along with Tennile Spencer also from Queensland and Victorian Millie Reed, who beat Mikayla in wet conditions at the Victorian Championships in 2010.
Mikayla was only riding her 20” bike this year as she was also involved in the ACT State Team for the first running of the Dynamite Series. Mikayla had very little warm up time and made good use of the Pre Titles to get a feel for the track, winning most of her heats. Come Thursday for the Dynamites, the weather came along and delivered the forecasted showers, making the track boggy and slow. Mikayla rode well and managed seconds and thirds to make it through to the final. In the final she stepped it up and crossed the line in forth position after being in third for most of the track, but the heavy conditions took their toll on her.
That night we made some gearing changes to our new SNAP products and came out ready for the big one, the Aussies! Mikayla rode well again in her heats winning most of them, which gave her a gate in the semis. In the semi Mikayla blasted out of the gate winning the hole shot to the first corner. By the third straight challengers came and she got a little loose allowing home track rider Ruby-Mae to slip past her to take first and that’s how they finished. In the final Mikayla had her four Queensland rivals on the inside gates to her and she knew she had to get out fast to be in contention. When the gate dropped, Mikayla had a shocker and came out slow allowing the pack to leave her behind. She was boxed out down the first straight and in to the first corner coming out in almost last. She battled her way through the pack but only made it back to position 5. Mikayla was a little disappointed in her results on the weekend, but an Australian plate is a great achievement and 5A is awesome for 2011. Mikayla was happy for her friend Shelby Green to take away another 1A, with Celeste in second, Ruby-Mae in third and Tennile in the fourth spot. Well done all the girls.
Nikalus Rose like Mikayla, was also part of the ACT State Team and ready for the new Dynamite Series riding against the best riders in each State. Nik had little warm up on the track but was relaxed and comfortable and really liked the track. In the Pre Titles Nik rode well with wins in most heats which was a positive sign. When the Dynamite event took place Nik was riding awesome and giving the more rated riders a run for their money with thirds and fourth places. Nik made it to the semi of the Dynamites which was stacked with top riders. He came out of gate 7 and had a shocker getting boxed out and after some tough battling, came through in seventh missing out on the final. Nik was happy with his riding especially in horrid conditions.
At the Aussies itself Nik was now in dry conditions and riding fast. Nik had some tough competition in his heats with Matt White and Jay Beazley, who he had battled with at the Vics and ACT Titles. Nik rode well with thirds and a fourth to secure a spot in the quarters. In the quarters he had gate 7 again and like the Dynamites struggled to remain in the pack to the first corner. As he was about to ride around the pack in the first corner, Jay Beazley came down in front of him causing Nik to somersault over his bars to on to the concrete, ending his Aussies quest for 2011. Nik got up with his plate torn off and his seat back the front and rode the rest of the track with some “special” jumping for the crowd. Nik was happy with how he rode, just disappointed that he got taken out.....that’s racing!
Justin Beattie too was part of the NSW State Team for the Dynamite Event and was looking for a three peat at this year’s Aussies. There were many people who doubted the NSWelchman’s ability to make it three in a row as home town favourite and 2A Mitch Hoad was on fire and on home turf! Justin got the track dialled quickly and began trying different lines and jumps in the pre titles and Dynamite heats. Justin rode well in the heats with wins and a second after shutting it down in the last straight, conserving energy for the finals. In the final Justin got an outside gate due to his slower time in the semi and this created pressure for the young man. Like a true champion Justin put the head down and bum up and rode well in the final but lost the holeshot to Mitch. After a great battle to the line Justin came in second with Mitch taking the 12 Boys Dynamite series.
In the Aussies, Justin took comfortable wins in the heats securing a place in the finals again. He looked far more comfortable in the dry conditions and had nailed the second straight which was giving him a great advantage over other riders in his class. Come final time, Justin’s dad Jim was full of nerves and hoping his little champion could pull out another win. Well, did he ever! When the gate dropped Justin was out of the pack like lightning and was never headed. If there were doubters out there, they were quickly silenced as Justin ran away with the final and was never close to being challenged. An amazing effort to win the National Champions Jersey for the last three years running and I believe there are many more to come for the young fella. Lucky...NO WAY, just far too quick and talented!
Josh Rose had been training hard in the lead up to the Aussies and had been playing with gearing to try and get it right before we went away. Thanks to SNAP for some impressive components for the 2011 ONE Bikes, including chainrings, chaintensioners and stems. Josh had swapped his white 2010 frame for the new 2011 black and white frame and his new ride looked awesome. His old frame is off to a new home in the NSW area with Grant Ginger, who is dying to put it together and get on a ONE. Josh was riding in the heavily contested 16 boys class. WOW there is some amazing talent in this class and some future champions there to look out for. Josh struggled in the heavy conditions for the 16 Boys Champbikx event only managing fifths which left him out of the finals. Josh said he was struggling with the gate and his first straight, but knew what he needed to do for the Aussies on the Saturday. The day break did Josh no harm as he came out ready on Saturday.
In the heats of the Aussies, Josh rode extremely well managing seconds and a third battling with his mate from Victoria, Luke Smith. Josh had the first and second straight dialled and was handling the tricky third straight well too. That straight claimed a number of victims over the weekend. Josh was stoked as he achieved his goal of making the quarter finals, something he hadn’t done for a few years. Josh had gate 6 for the quarters and came out quickly but his second pedal let him down with the pack shutting him out in to the tight first corner. Josh tried to make the distance up but lost momentum on a few occasions missing the cut for the semis, but left the event with positives and was happy with how he rode.
It was a good effort by the kids and they need to be proud of themselves. I would like to thank my amazing wife for all her support with the kids at the events these days, to her family for putting us up and looking after us very well. I would also like to thank Jim Beattie and his family for all their support and laughs. What a wonderful week team Redline had. We started the week with the two one day carnivals, followed by the Pre-Meet. Thursday saw the Dynamites/Champbikx/Probikx raced. Friday, Saturday and Sunday were the official Australian Title days with Team Redline going for a possible 24 Australian Plates.
Saturday night was the Redline team dinner with Josh Callan and Sam Willoughby joining the team. The little riders got to meet their hero’s whilst the older riders and parents had a great time talking to the two boys.

So to wrap things up, out of a possible 24 plates, Team Redline came home with a total of 19 plates. Six 1A, two 2A and three 3A. That is a total 11 podium finishes. Congratulations to all Team Redline riders. Sam Willoughby, Tristyn Kronk, Aislynn Weber and Max Balaam finished third in the team results with Aaron Nottle, Rachelle Smith, Saya Sakakibara and Joel Grace going home as the National Team Winners. This puts Redline and myself as National Team Champions three years in a row.

The bmxultra.com team were at the Australian Championships at Cairns over the weekend. Kyle Horton was racing in elite on Saturday and Levi Collins, Matt Butterworth and Scooby Guyers were racing their cruisers on Sunday.
Victorian Kyle Horton stepped it up to the Elite Men's class after finishing third in the Junior Elite Men's last year. It all went to plan qualifying through the motos to the quarter final, but that was as far as it went for Kyle after taking a fall.
The current 25-29 mens World Champion Levi Collins from Victoria followed up his second on the 20" with a win in the 25-29 mens cruiser class.
Matt Butterworth from Western Australia was on a high after finishing with a fourth in the 40-44 mens class. When it came to cruiser he qualified nicely through the motos but missed the cut, finishing seventh in the semi.
Scooby Guyers from South Australia was in the 17-24 cruiser class. Once again he got through the motos easily enough, but finished with a fifth in the semi.
All of the bmxultra.com team riders did a great job at Cairns on the weekend. Well done guys.

The newly formed Supercross Australia Factory team were taking on Australia's best riders at the Australian Championships at Cairns on the weekend.
Max Cairns, on his Supercross Blur, qualified comfortably through his motos, he went on to finish first in his quarter, third in his semi and in the final was at the head of the field until he went too high in the first corner and was Haulin' Ass to get back into the mix. He finished up with a sixth place at the national championships.
The 2010 Australian Elite Champion Alex Cameron took his Supercross ENVY through his heats, then finished up with a second in his quarter final. Unfortunatly he finished up with a fifth in the semi, and was out of the main event.
Jade McPherson, on his Supercross Bolt LT, just missed the cut for the finals in the 30+ masters class on Saturday, but on Sunday in the 35-39 cruiser class it was a different story. Jade won his motos and his semi and was looking good for the main. When the dust settled he finished up on the podium in third.

Round 3 and 4 of the European Championship for Junior and Elite men/women are behind us.
Sunny France is always a good place to hang out for racing.
This time in Compiègne, about 1 hour from Paris.
In Junior Women, both Nadja Pries from Germany and Simone Christensen from Denmark made the main, but took themselves out in a crash. Simone got 7th and Nadja 8th.
Jordy van der Heijden from Holland was flying and rode his ONE to a 3rd place behind Frenchman Joris Daudet and Canadian Tory Nyhuaug.
On Sunday only ONE/Kenda's Junior women made the main.
Nadja Pries from got 4th and Simone Christensen 6th.
A week earlier at the first "Top Competition" in Valkenswaard Holland, Jasper Peters took 3rd place in Junior Men.
This past weekend in Prague, Czech Republic there was an international cup where Aneta Hladikova fromCzech Republic won and Nadja Pries from Germany took 3rd.
In Holland a new track was opened in Klazienaveen, with the Rabobank Pro Open. Jordy van der Heijden took 3rd.

What a great weekend of Racing; the HRVfitness team was back at the 2011 Australian titles to defend three Australian #1’s from last year, Jaden Rice was looking strong all weekend with some great laps in the motos and when it came to the final the big fella was ready to lay it all on the line. But this year it wasn’t meant to be and Jaden had to settle with #2 Australia.
Tony HRV was also looking great in motos and knew he had a challenge ahead of him as he headed into the finals with some of Australia’s top 30+ masters. When the gate dropped it was neck and neck as they headed into the first turn, HRV was relegated back to fifth out of the first corner but he wasn’t finished yet. He dropped the hammer and managed to get to back to third by the next turn, rounding the second corner he was already passing second and had his sights on the leader. When HRV hit the technical part of the rhythm section that’s when the big guy exploded, over shooting one of the rollers with too much speed he was catapulted into the face of the next table top. Unbroken but very banged up HRV had to settle for 8th place.
But the storey of the weekend was Brandon “the Freako” TeHiko, the young fella failed to take out the Champbikx final on Friday night, putting doubt on whether he would be able to repeat his last years performance.
But when it came to crunch time Brandon rose to the occasion. The Freako put on an amazing performance winning not only the Australian Champbikx overall series but he managed to repeat wins on both 14 boys and cruiser classes.
The HRVfitness team wasn’t finished there, on Saturday night at the Australian Champ Bikx/ Pro Bikx awards the HRVfitness team was awarded “Australian Team of the Year”. After a fantastic 12 months of racing with plenty of State and National titles the team has truly been unstoppable.

The Country Music group “Alabama” has a song with a verse stating, “the stars fell on Alabama”, and the State of Alabama has adopted that as a slogan. Well on April 27, 2011 The SKY fell on Alabama, as well as 6 of our neighboring states.
As many already know, on Wednesday April 27, 2011 severe storms and tornados ripped through 7 states in the southeast with HRPdesigns home state of Alabama, the hardest hit with nearly 250 dead. In all, over 340 people lost their lives during that fateful day, but the Survivors now have to tackle to overwhelming burden of picking up the pieces and rebuilding.
HRPdesigns asks that you help our fellow Alabamians and our neighboring States in their recovery efforts.

ECI High Jump video
At the Speed Bicycles/Sinz Elite BSX2011 this year the guys at Elite Cycle Imports put together a high jump bar for a bit of additional entertainment. They hadn't realised just how much pop you can pull of some of the jumps at BSX. It took some time to eliminate riders, but was a great show. Check out the video.

About BSX
BSX (Bicycle Supercross) is one-on-one sprint trails style racing on a backyard track built specifically to test a rider's skills. The short straights, lofty jumps and tight corners are very intense under race conditions but also fun for competitors and create quite a lot of entertainment for spectators. The event provides a unique experience for the local Victorian riders, as well as the interstate and international visitors during an off day of the Track Attack series. The events primary function is to raise money for the Royal Children's Hospital Foundation. In just five years the event has raised approximately $24,500 which has provided the hospital with new equipment. Funds have been raised through gate takings, raffles, auctions and donations.
