AUSTRALIA CREATES HISTORY AT THE 2004 UCI BMX WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN EUROPE
Another year rolls by and the UCI BMX Worlds Championships are over in the blink of an eye. The sport of BMX is going forward in leaps and bounds at the elite level; this was evident with the high level of power and skill that was on display at this year event in Valkenswaard, Netherlands.

Australia found themselves at the forefront of the battle with results that have yet to be seen at this level…forget the Tour De France, the Aussies are in town!

Warwick Stevenson managed to keep a cool head all week, and as a result of this achieved the highest award in our sport today, a World Championship Rainbow Jersey in the Elite Men class, he lead from start to finish in the final as he had done all day, this was domination in its finest form!. Warwick will now head back to his home away form home in the USA to concentrate on the upcoming NBL and ABA titles that are currently up for grabs.

Michael Fenwick. What else can be said? The world is now familiar with the name of the future. Michael had a little bad luck in the Junior Elite Cruiser class with a huge crash in the 1st straight earlier in the weekend, but to his credit he fought back in the 20’ class to win the Junior Elite Championship. By adding the Junior World Championship to his resume will give this talented young rider the confidence to ensure a strong future in the sport of BMX. Michael could be the “one” to follow in the successful foot steps of his mate “Warwick”.

Australia also had a number of other finalists in the championship classes.
Billy Jolliffe (JM) 6th 20” & 5th cruiser

Congratulations guys and girls on the most successful weekend so far in the history of Australian BMX!

30/07 Stevenson gets cold reception from Aussie team
Have you checked out the press release on the Haro Bikes website about Aussie Warwick Stevenson winning at the UCI world championships last weekend? Check this out.

Warwick: "I wanted to do this race regardless if I was welcome by my Australian team or not. During the week they didn't even want to take my bike on their bus as I wasn't part of the official Australian team. I made sure I going to Holland to race the UCI World's as I really wanted to win that title. I
can't believe I did it. I'm in the contention of winning two more titles this year but it's going to be really hard to pull that off."

I must say it's dissapointing but not unexpected, the "official Australian team" have a reputation for being very unhelpful to those not travelling in the offical group. It's strange that they would do that to anyone. Warwick is the nicest person and would never do that himself, let alone to a fellow Australian. When I was in the US for a couple of weeks, back in 2000, he was very hopitable and helpful, he didn't have to be, he gets paid to race.

30/07 Josh Callan seriously injured
Aussie young gun, Josh Callan (Redline/TotalBMX), went to the UCI world championships in Holland to defend his world title but ended up in hospital instead.

Josh was in the semi final for Cruiser on the friday at the World Championships, he collided with another rider while going over a jump and copped a handle bar in the stomach.

He was hit so hard that he ended up with a torn bowel and had to be operated on immediately. Josh was meant to be in intensive care for 3-4 days. His Mum caught a flight on out from Melbourne on Sunday night to be with the rest of the Family and Josh in Holland for his recovery.

30/07 Univ of BMX press-release Worlds 2004
Dear friends in BMX,

Each year, after the Worlds, the University of BMX releases the results of the “World Championship Quality Survey”.
A selective group of international people (riders, officials, organizers and guests) do give their opinion on the World Championship run that year (check out the enclosed overall historical overview).
Almost unanimously all concerned rated this UCI - Worlds as THE BEST EVER, with now the I.BMX.F.-FIAC Worlds 1991 at Sandnes - Norway as 2nd best and the first ever out-side the USA, I.BMX.F Worlds 1983 at Slagharen-Holland as 3rd best.

As you can see by the overall historical overview, not all World Championships had the basic standard of organization. Hopefully this World-Championship has set a minimum standard of what a Worlds should be, in all fields concerned (infra-structure, racing technical, facilities for spectators, press, TV and so on).
A great challenge for future World Championship organizers indeed.

Personally I am looking forward to the 2005 UCI BMX World Championships at BERCY - PALAIS OMNISPORT de PARIS – France. A fantastic indoor accommodation in which we ran BMX race in the early ’80 ‘s. Besides BMX, also indoor Moto-Cross events tale place here as well as indoor surfing (a complete water basin on the main floor with large windmills). Around 11.000 seats are available for spectators.
Let’s meet again at the 2005 UCI BMX World Championship at Bercy-Paris, France.

29/07 Review: Supercross UL 2004 frame
While things are quiet in the news front we have managed to squeeze out another review. Check out the SX 2004 UL frame.

28/07 Jonathan Hoare hooks up with Bayswater Cycles
BMXUltra.com/One Bicycles AA pro rider Jonathan Hoare has been ripping up tracks around Victoria in a brand spanking new set of Shimano M071 Sport Performance shoes. The shoes are a part of a new deal that Bruce and Shannon from Bayswater Cycles (Cyclelink.com.au) have made with Jon Jon.

Bayswater Cycles is located on the Mountain Hwy in Bayswater, central to the Knox, Eastfield, Park Orchards and Lilydale BMX tracks in Melbourne's outer eastern suburbs. The shop is the biggest I have ever seen at 6000sq feet. The sales and service crew are friendly and certainly know their stuff. Shannon has been racing BMX for many years, and pretty much all other cycling disciplines for that matter, including elite level 4X. Their BMX product range includes Felt, FreeAgent, DK, Eastern, DMR, S&M, Profile, Shimano, Answer, Dirt Designs and more. If there is anything they don't have chances are they can order it in.

If you aren't from the Melbourne area they also have an online shop at www.cyclelink.com.au.

27/07 Randy Stumpfhauser wins 2004 UCI World Title
Nestled just outside of Amsterdam in Valkenswaard, Netherlands the 2004 UCI BMX World Championships were being held. On one of the best tracks that Europe has to offer, the Valkenswaard track has deep roots in BMX history, as it was the host of the 1993 UCI BMX World Championships. With incredible crowds on hand to watch the BMX racing, it seemed more like a Supercross event in the USA, as the place was packed with fans and riders from all over the World. 34 Countries made up for the biggest World Championship in History.
The Hyundai/GT Team had 3 of the Worlds top rider competing for the Elite Men's World Title. With Randy Stumpfhauser, Thomas Allier, and Luke Madill all going for the Gold, it was for sure to be a race to remember. On Friday night, it would be Randy and Luke going for a shot at the Elite Cruiser men's title.
Friday night at the UCI World Championships kicked off the World Title chases with the Cruiser Classes, including Elite Cruiser, and Hyundai/GT Pro Rider Randy Stumpfhauser was looking forward to it.
For the past 2 years, Randy has owned the Elite Cruiser Class at the UCI World Championships taking home 2 world titles. This year, leading up to the UCI Worlds, Randy has been almost unbeatable in his 2004 season aboard his GT Power Series Cruiser, so it looked favorable for him to add his 3rd title in a row.
With over 80 riders in the Elite men's cruiser class it would be no easy task to be one of the elite 8 in the Cruiser main event.
Randy drew some tough competitors in the Moto's but made it look easy as he took 3 wins. On to the 1/8th final and again Randy was the winner. The same would go for the 1/4 final and 1/2 final, with Randy entering into the toughest Elite Cruiser race quite possibly ever.
As the riders lined up for the Gate, the over 15,000 spectators were going crazy as a World Champion was about to be crowned. As the gate dropped, Randy got out well, but was just a bit behind Cristian Becerine and Jason Richardson. Randy rode smart and smooth and going into the 3rd turn chose his time to pass both riders and run away with the win and his 3rd consecutive UCI World Championship.

Hyundai/GT is proudly sponsored by Hyundai USA, Fox Racing, Shimano, IRC Tires, Sun Ringle, OGIO, and Rock Shox.

27/07 Border regional results
It's a big ask to expect people to compete at Wodonga (350Kms north of Melbourne) in the middle of winter. Wodonga is about 1-1.5 hours from some of Australia's best ski resorts so can get a little cold and very wet. Which is why the Northern Rivers Regional committee decided to make the event a double points round. It worked for the Pro Open class, there were enough riders for a semi final under the hybrid rules the region uses, the other classes were a little light on though.

There were a handful of AA Pros, including Jonathan Hoare, Brian Slatter, Levi Collins and Brock Tuckerman, and a whole lot of A Pros.

Although it didn't rain much on the day, the track was very wet. It had rained for about 24 hours from Friday night and the track just soaked it up. There were some very muddy patches before jumps and in corners that were throwing people all over the place.

When racing got started there were no real surprises. In the Semis the two guys to finish 5th were BMXUltra.com's Shane Jenkins and Cyclelink.com.au's Shannon Rademaker.

When the gate dropped in the final Jon Jon came flying out of lane two and had a half a bike length advantage which he stretched out to about a bike and a half, he made the mistake of taking the second corner too cautiously and Levi Collins took the lead. Down the third straight and Tuckerman had pulled up next to Jon Jon, his race was slipping away. Going into the last corner Jon Jon took the low road and it looked like he started to drift, he collided with Tuckerman who went over the top of the corner. Levi was clear in first, Jon Jon took second, and Robert Slatter slipped into third.

Pro Open results
1. Levi Collins (Sinister)
2. Jonathan Hoare (BMXUltra.com/One)
3. Robert Slatter (Melbourne Bicycle Center)
4. Adam Carey (Sinister)
5. James Booth
6. David Page (Norco)
7. Nathan May (Sinister)
8. Brock Tuckerman (Sinister)

26/07 Aussie Men on top of the world
The results are in from the 2004 UCI world championships. Aussie Men, Mike Fenwick and Warwick Stevenson, took out the Junior and Senior Elite classes respectively. While BMXAustralia might like to cash in on the results from these outstanding riders, it was an individual effort from each of them that won them the rights to wear the #1 world plate for the next 12 months.

Emma Franklin is Australia's highest ranked elite female rider finishing a respectable 4th in the Junior Elite Womens class.

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate each of the riders and the rest of the Australian team.

23/07 World Championships this weekend
The UCI world championships are on this weekend. Australian Warwick Stevenson took out the Pro Shootout last night and fellow countryman Kamakazi finished in fourth. Could this be the first year that Warwick wins a UCI crown on his 20"? There's a long way through qualifying to the number 1 position on the podium, but it will be great to have an Australian as the Elite world champion, from memory this has never happened before, however a couple have come close. Another strong contender is Kyle Bennett, the American who has won the world championships for the last two years running. The track in Holland is much different to the past two years, it seems to give riders with the horse power the advantage over skills. If you want to keep up with the latest from Holland you could try this link: http://www.uci.ch/modello.asp?1stlevelid=LL&level1=0&level2=0

23/07 BMXUltra.com photos in US teen magazine
An American teen girls magazine will be publishing an article about girls in BMX in a soon to be released issue. The article will feature photos taken by our webmaster Shane Jenkins, this is not the first time that BMXUltra.com photos have been published in North America. Some of you may remember, about this time last year, some photos featured in The Best Book About Bikes. Let's hope the article helps to promote and increase female participation the sport of BMX.
More information when the magazine is released.

22/07 SA BMX titles rumour
Last year South Australia opened their state championships, but only for pro riders from anywhere to compete. Rumour has it that this year the vet pro cruiser class will also be open at their state championships, to be held at the Tea Tree Gully track in October. The class is starting to build such momentum in South Australia that they are have riders on the hunt for second hand cruisers. If you know anyone who has one for sale tell them they can post it for free on our classifieds.

21/07 Getting started in BMX
While things are hotting up inside BMX with the announcement of BMX as an Olympic sport for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, it seems that people are forgetting that there are people yet to experience our great sport.

If you want to get involved in BMX racing and you are not sure how, you have the internet at your finger tips which is a powerful resource. I don't know how many times I have heard that people would go to a local bike shop to find out more about BMX and they get the blank looks and then find themselves being recruited for the local road, track, or mountain bike clubs. Unless your local bike shop specialises in BMX, and in particular BMX racing you are far better off using the internet to gather information. I recommend that you search on www.google.com for "bmx" and the name of your local town, or city. For example "bmx Melbourne". The chances of finding something are pretty high given the number of BMX websites these days. If you can't find anything on a local level you may need to modify your search to look for your national body, you should find a local track listing if not look for a contact email address and ask.

Regardless of how handy you are on a BMX bike, the best place to start racing is at a local BMX club race. It's at a club level that you get to compete against people with a similar enthusiasm and skill level. You will learn the basic skills of gate starting, taking jumps at race pace and riding against other riders, all very important when moving up to the next level.

You will need basic protective gear which may vary between governing bodies, but generally you need a helmet (full face is highly recommended), full finger gloves, long sleeve top, long pants, socks, and sneakers. Your bike should also be in good working order. If you don't have all the basics you can generally find that people at the local club will be more than willing to help you out with loaner equipment. You often hear that you need expensive equipment to be competitive which is probably true at an elite level, but if you are just getting started you could be all suited up with a bike and helmet for a couple of hundered dollars, there is a huge second hand market with people upgrading, leaving the sport, etc and there are a lot of well priced entry level bikes on the market today.

20/07 Factory Avent / Bombshell riders on fire at UCI pre worlds
Valkenswaard, Netherlands - A small contingent of Factory Avent / Bombshell riders made the trek to Holland for the UCI Worlds and decided to hit up the Pre-race the weekend before the big show. Elite Pro "dR" Donny Robinson, A Pro Jason Rogers, 14 Expert and reigning UCI class and cruiser World Champ Joey Bradford, 12 Expert and reigning UCI World Champ Tory Nyhaug made the early trip out to the Worlds worth it with some great racing.

Donny Robinson came out strong on Saturday with a nice win in Pro Cruiser on the Worlds track. Monday he came back on his 20" but crashed in the main. Jason Rogers had to race Elite Men's because he turns 19 this year. Not a bad outing for Jason, making his Elite Men's semi. Joey Bradford, sharing a bike with Donny Robinson, dominated the 15-16 Cruiser motos but had back-to-back semi's with Donny and had to sit on the sideline. Joey came back on Monday to take the 15 Expert class decidedly. 12 Expert Tory Nyhaug was as dominating as last year, doubling up in class and cruiser for an excellent start to the Worlds week.

With the Worlds next weekend, the team expects big things. Donny Robinson has always had good luck at this race. At the UCI Worlds in Kentucky, "dR" doubled in Junior Men's class and cruiser, the only rider in history to accomplish this feat. Joey Bradford and Tory Nyhaug are hoping to repeat as World Champs.

Part of the team made it out to Brainerd, Minnesota for the ABA's Land o' Lakes Nationals. 11 Expert Connor "Con-Man" Fields, 13 Girl Alise "The Beast" Post, 18 Expert Mike Lundy, and 31 Expert "E-dub" Eric Elliott were out in the mid-north representing the Bomb Squad. The team's newest kid, Connor Fields has been adjusting to his new Morpheus Expert XL frame nicely, doubling up in 11 Expert for the weekend. Alise Post rocked the house again with another triple-triple in 13 Girls, 13 Girls Cruiser, and 13-14 Mixed Open. Mike Lundy doubled in 17-20 Cruiser, and 17-24 open but had some bad luck in class on Saturday, hitting the gate. Lundy came back on Sunday racing only class and open and doubled up. Eric Elliott has been coming back strong after surgery on his arm and double doubled in 31-35 Cruiser and 28-35 Expert.

As heads turn to the Netherlands for the UCI world championships results on the upcoming weekend Victoria's Northern Rivers Region will be running another round of their regional series in Wodonga. If you are heading to Wodonga, and thinking of going early, there will be gate practice on Saturday from 2:00 to 3:30 pm weather permitting.
As promissed we said we would give away the remainder of our Beastie Boys give aways. At this stage it looks like we will be heading up to Wodonga so look out for the BMXUltra.com tent. We will have a bunch of stickers but only a few CDs. We'll give the first one away to the first person who comes to us wearing a Beastie Boys t-shirt/jumper, the next one will go to the person wearing the oldest old-school race jersey. We'll see what's left after that.

19/07 Anthony Gray seriously injured
While on holiday in Adelaide, former Victorian State Champion, Anthony Gray was riding at a skate park and had a nasty fall which has caused serious damage to his spine.

16/07 Transit Race 2 DVD mini review
It is rare to find a BMX DVD devoted mostly to BMX racing. From the moment I heard about Transit Race 2 I wanted to get my hands on it, but couldn't find an Australian distributor. Eventually I bought it myself via mail order through Dan's Comp. It just so happens I ordered it 2 days before the release of Transit Race 3 was announced, but that's cool, because when it comes to BMX in Australia are a little behind the times anyway. Transit 2 covers ABA and NBL national races from 2002/2003 featuring both Pro and Am classes, as well as an in depth interview with Kyle Bennett and some trails. Although there are some bits of the video that look amaturish but as a whole it goes where no BMX magazine can go, nearly an hour and a half of BMX action.
Worried about it not playing on your DVD player? I put it in my unmodified Playstation2 as a test that it would work on Australian region 4 DVD players and it was spot on.
You can find out more about Transit DVDs at www.transitvideomag.com.

15/07 Ride and Glide news
Intel gets a boost from Ride and Glide Bicycle Stunt Team.

Edmonds, WA — Ride and Glide Bicycle Stunt Team Rider, Jacob White will be featured in Intel’s new nation-wide ad campaign. The stunt team’s owner, Brent Sprute was contacted to set up the photo shoot with Jacob. The 17-year-old, White fit perfectly into Intel’s campaign showing how applied knowledge can be used out side the classroom. The photo shoot took place at the largest ramp-park in Beaverton, Oregon. Ride and Glide Stunt Team’s sponsors, Redline Bicycles, Pryme Safety gear, Skyway tuff Wheels and F.Q. Industries all have a strong presence in the photo that will be used in Intel’s newest advertisement.
Jacob took to the air several times giving photographer, Todd Eckelman several fantastic photographs to work with. “That one was awesome.” Exclaimed Eckelman as Jacob demonstrated his skills aboard the chromoly Redline bicycle. Skyway’s graphite tuff wheels got a great workout thanks to Jacob’s knack for launching as high as humanly possible out of the quarter-pipe. “Those graphite wheels are incredible, you never have to true them and the sealed bearings are so smooth.” Said Sprute who has been sporting a pair of Skyway’s black Graphite tuff wheels on his own Redline BMX bike for almost a year now.

Ride and Glide Bicycle Stunt Team will be performing several more times in Oregon this summer with performances at the Portland Trailblazer’s Street Jam event July 16th-18th in the Rose Garden, Portland, OR. In addition to the Street Jam event the team will take to the air in Tigard Oregon for the Tigard Police Departments annual Bicycle safety Fair located in Cook Park on August 5th.

The team is accessible to their fans and media following their performances via meet and greet sessions and the teams web site at www.rideandglide.com

Extreme sports heroes join Trail Blazers and Nike to help raise funds for the Special Olympics Oregon.

The team will add X-Games-style excitement and thrills to what is set to become the most electrifying 3 on 3 outdoor basketball tournament in the world. The festival-like atmosphere will feature great food, music, and a Miller Paint Slam-dunk contest that is sure to wow the crowd. Ride and Glide Extreme Sports Stunt Team is sure of be an event highlight that will have crowds cheering for more death-defying stunts. This extreme team has volunteered to perform at Blazers Street Jam without a sponsor to cover costs, citing raising money for Special Olympics Oregon as a great cause.

Making a positive difference in people’s lives is what the stunt team enjoys most. Their contagious energy encourages the audience to interact and take in the team’s meaningful messages. Bicycle safety, positive self esteem, and getting a good education are all issues the team feels are vital to today's youth. The show consists of unbelievable stunts and empowering messages that urge helmet wear and a healthy lifestyle. Teens look up to the team's riders as positive role models as they inspire the best in everyone with an unparalleled display of skill, courage, and their own unique brand of good natured fun. The returns of having the Ride and Glide Stunt Team perform are plentiful. Educational entertainment that delivers beneficial guidance is paramount in the long lasting messages the team shares. "It's good. It's exciting -- entertaining," said 15-year-old Jeff Robertson of Lacey. "It's just cool to watch other people -- because we know we can't do it." The team performs year-round at schools, fairs, NBA halftime shows, corporate events, and grand openings. Sheree Trefry of the Tacoma Metro Parks Department credited the team’s participation in the successful grand opening of a local skate park, stating, "You [the team] kept everything running smoothly and provided a lot of positive messages. Thanks for being a major part of this very positive event." Microsoft's Bill Gates expressed his view, exclaiming, "That is really cool," referring to the team captain, Brent Sprute's action-packed stunts during a product release demo for the software giant. The high-flying riders are very down to earth, often staying after the show to sign autographs and talk with fans. While most people wouldn't want the media looking over their shoulder at work, the team's riders encourage the media to enjoy an afternoon by attending their performance. "I wouldn't mind it if Regis and Kelly followed me around at a show, and who wouldn’t want to see Oprah riding a BMX bike or a skateboard? Now that's good entertainment," Sprute says with a charming grin. The team is accessible to their fans and media following their performances via meet-and-greet sessions and the team’s web site at www.rideandglide.com

UCI World Continental Ranking

The UCI World Continental Ranking is coming to an end on all four continents. This year the number of events has increased to 10 races on each continent counting for UCI ranking points, which makes it easier for riders to be competitive in the overall ranking. Each rider will bring their top 7 results/points to the UCI BMX World Championships in Valkenswaard, Netherlands where the UCI World Ranking will be decided. A new feature for this year is that the overall world ranking progress can be viewed under “Global Rankings 2004”. In its initial (testing) phase is also the “Global Nations Ranking 2004”, which in the future will serve as selection criteria for the 2008 Olympics. 2004 UCI BMX WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS, VALKENSWAARD NETHERLANDS
Record number of entries
The UCI have received over 2’400 entries from 33 countries for the 2004 UCI BMX World Championships, to be held in Valkenswaard Netherlands 23-25 July 2004. This number of entries shatters the previous attendance record (in Vallet, France 1999) with over 500 entries. A contributing cause to this sudden boost is last year’s announcement that BMX racing will be included in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the continuing world-wide growth of BMX. The event schedule might be subject to changes due to the high number of participants and some classes may be forced to have a 2-moto transfer format. Please visit the UCI website for all the latest information. www.uci.ch
Pro Shoot Out
To create additional excitement to the UCI BMX World Championships week, the Valkenswaard Lion D’Or BMX club is inviting the top athletes to a pro shoot-out event on Wednesday evening of the Championship week. The top 32 elite men and top 16 elite women on the UCI BMX ranking are eligible to compete in the shoot-out which offers 3’600 € in prize money. Riders and Team Managers are asked to confirm the riders presence directly to the event organizer. For the latest ranking, see; http://www.vitesseonline.it/uci/bmx/online/

14/07 Factory Avent / Bombshell riders rule east coast; really picks up McDow
Kettering, Ohio - After a successful outing at the NBL's Stars and Stripes national two weeks ago in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the Factory Avent / Bombshell tour headed to Waterford Oaks in Michigan for the NBL Great Lakes National. After that, it was on to Atlanta for a series of clinics at Cobb County BMX, then on to Desoto, Texas for clinics at the Desoto Metroplex track this past weekend and a small contingent made it out to the ABA's Buckeye National in Kettering, Ohio to do some damage.

In Michigan, Factory team riders Jacob Abbe, Lahsaan Kobza, Chad Kerley, and Joey Bradford all scored perfects to propel the team to a win over second place Fizz'z. With Sunday's rain out, the team scored another win by default; a win they would gladly take. This moved the team up another 20 points in the NBL's National Team standings but still in third place with the chances of taking the NBL team title now very remote. "A top three in the NBL points chase is something that this team would be very proud of, considering we haven't made it out to all the bigger NBL nationals," stated team manager Will Rells. Expect to see the team at the Music City National in Nashville in August.

A few team riders made it out to the ABA's Buckeye Nationals in Kettering, Ohio. Ohio marked the debut of 11 Expert Connor Fields in the Avent / Bombshell colors. Fields grabbed his first win, of many more to come, on his Candy Blue Morpheus Expert XL. Connor's new teammates, Mike Lundy, Dustin Vogler, and Eric Elliott all doubled on Saturday making for a great weekend for the Bomb Squad.

Next up for some of the team is the UCI Worlds in Holland. Former UCI World Champ and Elite Pro Donny Robinson, Junior Elite rider Jason Rogers, reigning UCI World Champ 14 Expert Joey Bradford, and reigning UCI World Champ 12 Expert Tory Nyhaug are making the trip to Europe to represent Avent / Bombshell and the USA and Canada (Nyhaug). Look for updates soon.

The next team race is the ABA World Championships in Nanaimo, Canada. The whole team is looking forward to bringing home a bunch of World Champs and, in return, the World Championship Cup. Not only is the World Champion team trophy on the line, but the Factory Team championship is still hotly contested and Nanaimo could mean huge points for the year end battle.

The team would like to re-confirm that it has indeed picked up NBL star 15 Expert Warren McDow for it's ABA effort. Expect to see Warren on his new Avent frame and flying the Factory colors at the ABA Worlds, ABA Fall Nationals, and ABA Grands. Special thanks goes out to Warren's dad Larry and sister Kim for getting Warren all dialed in for his Avent debut.

12/07 J & C Supercross race report
NBL National, South Park, PA:
J & C now has 3 riders on the injured list. Chris Goolsby (30-34 cruiser) broke his wrist at a Michigan state qualifier last week. In Pittsburgh this past weekend, during a gallant attempt to keep at least one of the Lechtner kids from dominating their respective classes at an NBL event, Rachelle "The Rocket" McIntosh (11 girl class) was attempting to jump her way to the front before the last turn, got a little squirrelly and went down breaking both of her arms. Ouch! Get well soon from all of us at J & C Supercross. The worst part of it is that she will have to sit out of her own home track national at Waterford Oaks/Pontiac, Michigan the weekend of July 3rd and 4th. Third on the list is Elite women's class Ashleigh Ybarra. She took a very hard fall into the high speed first turn at the Great Lakes National and busted up her shoulder.
Being Midwest and Eastern riders of the NBL circuit, there has been a lot of hype regarding the wave of ABA riders coming to our races from the west. There will be standout riders in each of the sanctions. Over the past couple of weekends we have seen some new faces on the podium and some of the same old faces. The human body can only react and exert as much as it can. So in my opinion, there are excellent riders in both sanctions and all of that hype was unfounded. Let's race, have fun and not worry about which is better.
South Park is basically the Grands pre-race. If you can make your main there, more than likely, you'll be one of the final 8 in Louisville.

Results for South Park:
15 novice: Mike Taulbee 1st on Saturday.
14 girl: Amanda "Chili Dawg" Rose 4th on Sat, 5th on Sunday.
15 expert: Brandon Dosch, 2nd on Sunday.
11 expert: Adam Raczka, 8th on Saturday
11 novice Ryan Glannan 6th on Saturday, 4th on Sunday.
11 girl: Rachelle "The Rocket" McIntosh 2nd on Saturday.
8 expert Tyler Beebe went mud boggin' on the infield Saturday for an 8th and pulled a 6th on Sunday.
Rachelle rode her first cruiser class race on Saturday and scored a 2,1,1 - 1 almost perfect first time out!
The "little pirate" Jared Goolsby (8 expert) made a South Park main and picked up a 7th on Sunday.
Adam Raczka also picked up a pair of 4th place finishes on cruiser.

The Great Lakes National (July 3rd and 4th) was looking like it was going to be a great success but, changing the date and even the month from years past, we still can't seem to escape the Sunday rain. I think this is the 5th year in a row! Saturday was beautiful and the racing action was hot. All of the riders received a pass to the water park and it seemed maybe some of them had a little too much fun!
Elite woman's class Ashleigh Ybarra crashed in the first turn of her first moto and broke her shoulder. This is not how you want to start your weekend. Get well soon Ash. The other hometown girl is TFS's Samantha Allen. She went 2,1,2 - 6. Brand new to the team is 30-34 expert Marc Milam; he ended up 2nd in the main. Mike Taulbee went almost perfect, he won his main. After the first moto, it wasn't looking good for 16 rookie Duane Wurster. He pulled it together and finished 2nd in his main. 15 girl's Ashley Baird went straight 4ths all day. 14 girl's Amanda Rose finished up with a 3rd place trophy. 13 expert Scott Glannan went on to finish 2nd in his main, he just couldn't catch Standard's Jordan Chedister, that kid is fast. Thank god Scott showed up to race this weekend, I really wasn't looking forward to hitting the trail circuit. Fresh back into racing is 18-21 novice Corey Walser, he placed 3rd in his main. 13 novice Russell North took a 2nd. Our 11 experts were all over the front of the pack until main time, then they sorted out with Adam Raczka finishing 2nd, Chaz Green in 3rd and Joe Waryas in 7th. 11 novice Ryan Glannan managed to take a 5th in his main even though he is still beat up from a very spectacular crash in Pittsburgh. Joe Terry had a birthday this weekend, just when he had the 11 year olds figured, out he turned 12. 10 year old girl, "Awesome" Ariana Quintanilla cranked out 2nds all day. 8-year-old Alexandria ( I only race when I feel like it) McIntosh had to pick up where her sister (miss I can't ride with 2 casts on my arms) left off. Alex finished 2nd in her main. 8 expert Tyler Beebe rode hard for a 2nd place finish.
Rollin' on 24s, Dennis Ybarra (50-55 cruiser) finished up 4th, Denny Terry (35-39) chased Kelly Kelly to strait 2nds all day. Korey "The Rooster" Terry raced cruiser for the first time ever and ran strait 2nds all day too. 13 cruiser Chase Boothby finished 4th on the big-wheeled bike and Adam Raczka won his main.
J & C Supercross' team sheet was very good with 92 points. Counting the rain-out for Sunday, a pair of 92s locked up 1st place both days. Congratulations should go out to the other hometown team, Team Diamond. They finished up right behind us (as usual) in 2nd.

Get well soon Chris, Rachelle and Ashleigh. Welcome to the team Marc Milam.

09/07 BMXPros.com Race Report
NBL Great Lakes Nationals Waterford Oaks, MI
Round 6 of the 2004 NBL Pro Series events was held this past weekend in Pontiac, Michigan at the Waterford Oaks BMX Track. The Waterford Oaks track has a deep history with holding national events and the NBL did another great job of having an event here this year. On Saturday, the weather was perfect for a BMX race and made it such and enjoyable day. Unfortunately, Sunday was no where near the same, as just minutes before the gate was to drop for the first moto, the dark clouds that had loomed all morning had opened up and dumped rain. With it not looking like it would let up and predictions of rain all day, the NBL canceled the event for Sunday. In this case, they doubled the scores and results of Saturdays race to the riders.

Randy Stumpfhauser was looking to continue his great results from last weeks Southpark national and help move him up from #2 overall in the 2004 points chase. On Saturday, Stumpy looked fast and easily transferred into both the AA Pro and Pro Cruiser main events. In AA, as the gate fell it looked as if Randy was going to take the lead but just before the first turn it was AA chaos and Randy was held back to 4th. Randy had a hard charge but was unable to move up and would finish the day in 4th. In Pro Cruiser, this time Randy held the lead from the gate drop until the finish line, posting up another win. With just one more NBL national before the NBL Grands, Randy looks to be in great position to retain his 2003 #1 title. Randy's sponsors include GT Bicycles, Hyundai, ODI, IRC Tires, Shimano, Fox Racing, Smith, Sun Ringle, Bombshell Forks, AC, Thomson, Powerbar, CTI Knee Braces, Easton, Marwi, FSA Headsets, S & M, Cyto Sport, and BMXpros.com

Cristian Becerine has been riding well all season and Waterford was just another prime example of that. Cristian powered his Crupi XL race bike into both the AA Pro and Pro Open main events on Saturday. When the AA Pro main event started, Cristian had some trouble as he clipped out of his SPD pedal down the first straitaway, and in AA Pro, that is all it takes to put you back to last. Cristian came back to redeem himself though, as in the Pro Open Main event, he finished 3rd for the day. Cristian's sponsors include Crupi, O'Neal, Answer, UGP, Sun Ringle, Marwi, Shimano, Powerbar, BMXpros.com, Cyto Sport, and Thomson Seat Posts.

BMXPros.com proudly represents Cristian Becerine, Kyle Bennett, Wade Bootes, Dale Holmes, Christophe Leveque, Brandon Meadows, John Parker, Jamie Staff, and Randy Stumpfhauser. For more information on any of the riders listed, please visit BMXPros.com or for information on sponsorship or the services of BMXPros.com, please e-mail Pete Dylewski @ PeteD@BMXpros.com

08/07 South QLD Zone Championships
Compiled by Kent Elliott - Toowoomba BMX Club
The South QLD Zone Championships were held over the weekend at Centenary Plains BMX Club, which produced some of the most exciting racing to be seen right across the board from Sprockets to Pro’s. A great two day event with huge crowds...which would certainly indicate the amazing growth of late in this fantastic sport. Full credit must go to event organisers (in particular event Co-ordinator Kayelene Domin), ALL Officials, and everybody who assisted in any way...your hard work definitely paid off. A special thanks must also go to "PHIREBIRD RACING" who were major sponsors of the event. Please check out www.phirebird.com.au for some great BMX products & services.

The Pro Open (14+) Final had the crowd screaming for their particular favourites. After Gray hole-shoted, it was a fairly tight pack coming into the first corner, Gray was in 1st, half bike length behind was Codega 2nd, Rosenthal a bike behind him, then Lamb, Vonhoff , Vockenson. When they hit the second straight the battle was on for position. The riders had formed a single file and out of the second corner the placings went, 1 Codega, 2 Rosenthal, 3 Gray, 4 Vonhoff, 5 Kane, 6 Vockenson, 7 Lamb, 8 Brezigar. Coming in to the third and last corner it was, 1 Codega, two bikes lengths behind was 2 Rosenthal, 3 Gray, 4 Vonhoff - all carrying a heap of speed and bunching up slightly. Gray attempted to hi/lo Rosenthal, but Rosenthal held a high line which kept Gray up higher, who at this stage had no where to go, Lo as planned ?, as Vonhoff had the door shut trying to take on Rosenthal. Gray found himself boxed up, with the remainder of the field going in low and fast. Out into the final straight. Codega was too strong in a near perfect ride to position himself two bike lengths ahead of the rest. Rosenthal emerged still carrying a heap of speed to take on Codega, but Codega was unbeatable at this stage. Rosenthal picked up second, Vonhoff third...Gray coasted home for eighth.

Gray dominated the top three positions along with Codega and Rosenthal over the weekend, it just goes to show how tight the racing is in Pro;
Pro Open Final results
1 Glenn Codega LOGAN CITY
2 Damien Rosenthal TOOWOOMBA
3 Nicholas Vonhoff TOOWOOMBA
4 Joshua KanE REDLANDS
5 Michael Vockenson SUNCOAST HINTERLAND
6 Phil Brezigar CENTENARY PLAINS
7 Justin Lamb ASHMORE
8 Jamie Gray NERANG

You don’t have to get first to be a winner either, as Jamie Gray stuck around for hours and presented MANY, MANY trophy's to all the place getting competitors ....great to see.

Rosenthal once again proved, despite his age, he can hold is own in Pro Open (14+), against far more experienced riders in that class such as Glen Codega, Jamie Gray, etc. Nicholas Vonhoff seems to be back on deck after a bad shoulder injury, and it was good to see Nick pick up a well deserved 4th (despite the lack of preparation time), in a race to which at one stage could have gone to any of the eight riders, great show fella’s, good to watch. All friends in the end.
Pro Open ladies final results
1 Renee Junga NERANG
2 Ashleigh Weier LOCKYER VALLEY
3 Cheryl Pointon NERANG
4 Gemma Rice SUNSHINE COAST
5 Fiona Langfeldt CABOOLTURE
6 Amy Smee SUNCOAST HINTERLAND

Full finals results.

07/07 Last chance to enter Beastie Boys competition
Today is the last day that you can enter for our Beastie Boys competition and, thanks to EMI Australia, win copies of the new album To The 5 Boroughs, amongst other things.

07/07 GT geared Ultrabox photos
GT Australia have put their Brian Lopes custom 9 Speed Ultrabox together and sent us some photos. Click each image for a bigger picture. Notice the absence of clipless pedals.

Do you think there is a place in BMX for gears?

07/07 New Intense team
Intense/TotalBMX will be setting up a new team, an official press release is expected soon.

07/07 Khalen Young update
After our article on Monday about Khalen being robbed we were able to confirm that he will not be attending the world championships in Holland later this month, and that he has moved back to Melbourne. Rumour has it he had a dissagreement with his trainer Sean Dwight. With Sean being the Australian team coach this year, and possibly the lead up to the 2008 Olympics, does this mean that Khalen will not have the chance to try out to represent Australia?

06/07 Pedalinn.com closes it's doors
David Comport at Pedalinn.com has been a major supporter of BMXUltra.com for a number of years now. Pedalinn.com was built up to one of the forerunners of BMX shops in Australia, known for great service and great prices. As some of you already know the shop was shut on Saturday and will be a huge loss in BMX circles. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Dave for all he has done for us and what he's done for BMX and wish him best of luck for the future. Maybe now he'll have more time to concentrate on Vet Pro.

06/07 Knox results and rumours
The Knox BMX Club, host of the 1998 Australian BMX titles, held a Metro Plate regional event on Sunday. BMXUltra.com's own Jonathan Hoare was unbeatable, he took out the Pro open class.
Results: All Classes | Bruiser Cruiser

Talking about Knox, rumours say that the Thunderdome race that's usually on the first weekend in November will move to the second weekend in November providing it doesn't clash with any large interstate events. There is talk of $2000 for AA Pro as well as an A Pro class, but that's not all. There will also be vet pro and vet pro cruiser, we hear it's $250+ payback for each of the classes.

06/07 4X in Eildon this Sunday
We all know how much BMXers love beating MTBers at their own game, especially in 4X. Sunday July 11th will be the last time riders can try out the Eildon track before it goes through some changes in preparation for next years nationals.
Here's the details:
Classes: Women, Under 17, Sport, Vets (entries depending) and Elite
Practice: from 10:30am.
Racing: from 1:00pm.
Entry: $30.00 + day licence if required.
Proudly sponsored by GT Bicycles, PUSHI and Maxxis.
For more details check www.ftf.com.au

05/07 Khalen Young robbed
Australian current #2 Elite rider, Khalen Young (One Bicycles), went back home to Western Australia for a short holiday from the Sean Dwight boot camp. While he was there his gold One bike and all his One/Troy Lee Designs race gear were stolen. It was our understanding that Khalen will be attending the world championships later this month but have not been able to confirm either way. With only a couple of weeks before the world championships this could be a major blow for Khalen.
If you are in Western Australia and know of the whereabouts of Khalen's bike or gear please email us (address above) and we will forward the details to him.
In other Khalen news, in addition to racing BMX he's now playing Australian rules football. Can you imagine?

01/07 Big Month of BMX
July is traditionally a big month for BMX in the Northern Hemisphere. When you put it all in perspective, there's back to back national events in the US for ABA and NBL, the UCI World championships will be held in the Netherlands and the ABA World championships are in Canada. I'm envious of anyone attending any of those events, BMX is at it's best at an international level. Look out for the results of some of the biggest races in the world.
