by BMXUltra.com
Former world champion Ziggy Callan had a big crash at Mount Gambier a couple of weeks back and was suffering, even struggling to walk, she's fine now. Here's the story according to her father Damien "The Snake" Callan.
"Ziggy injured herself at Mount Gambier crashing in the final... 3 doctors later ( including a sport specialist) with no results. Tuesday I took Zig to a woman recommended to me. 27/06 Wyndham Warriors BMX track opens this weekend
Wyndham Warriors BMX press release
[Editor :The Werribee BMX track will have it's first race meeting for quite some time this weekend, as a round of the Victorian Northern Rivers Regional series. The track is now known as the Wyndham Warriors BMX track. Here's an email we received from them]
We have had terrific support from the Northern Rivers Region and in particular Brian Bull and the Sunbury BMX Club. Without their help we wouldn't be to the stage that we are able to run a race meeting for the first time in we believe over 10 Years in the Werribee area. Our local council have been outstanding with funding that have enabled the track to be upgraded to what we believe is exciting and challenging for ALL ages. The surrounding area still need some landscaping etc but that will come with time with sun shelters in the planning stage to be completed by years end. Our first race meeting is the 4th Round of the popular Northern Rivers series on JULY 3rd which due to the track being only 20 minutes over the Westgate bridge will attract all the regular Metro Plate riders, after all, how long since the riders have competed on a NEW track??. The track is off Derrimut Road Hoppers Crossing (Melways ref. 206 C3) entry is next to the CFA fire station. Registration starts at 8.30am with gates dropping at 10am. Riders can call AH on 97423143 to have an entry form posted out or you can write your details down on a blank piece of paper and send them in. The address for entries is PO box 2004 Delivery centre Sunbury Vic 3429. Phone enquiries 0409 412 925 (Trevor Weber).

27/06 Sirius/Revtec Gladstone race report
Sirius/Revtec press release
Sirius/Revtec's AA Pro Jonathan Hoare raced at Gladstone (Australia) recently. Here is his race report... The weather was looking good and we were set for a great weekend of racing, the Gladstone club had their very own pro section which took it's toll on quite a few of the younger riders. With only 14 riders in AA I was feeling pretty good for a podium finish, I won my first two moto's and finished 2nd behind Luke Madill in the 3rd moto. I chose lane 5 for the first of the 3 finals and got a really good gate, I was second into the first turn behind Luke Madill. That's how the first main finished up, Luke 1st, Myself 2nd and Dirk Winter 3rd.

Main # 2 and I got another good start from gate 3, this time though John Johnson sneaked past me in the first turn and I finished 3rd.

Main # 3 wasn't my best of starts, I had some ground to make up down the first straight and it looked like I might have done it, but John and I exchanged a few elbows and I once again came out of the first turn in 3rd. 2nd, 3rd, 3rd was good enough to give me 3rd overall on Saturday.

Woke up Sunday morning and it appeared the weather had turned, it was a little wet outside but the track held up really well, only just a little heavy. I wasn't feeling as good on Sunday, but still managed a win in my first moto, then I got line scabbed and got 5th in the second and 3rd in the last moto. I came out of lane 6 in the first main and once again managed to come out of the first turn behind Luke, Chalk up 2nd in the first main.

Main # 2 and I needed a good gate from 8 to get over for the first turn, unfortunately I punched the gate pretty hard and couldn't get over. There was all sorts of chaos happening on the exit of the first turn, I managed to miss it all until the second turn where the rider behind me pedalled round my outside and clipped my arm as he came passed which put an end to that final... 8th!

Main # 3 I had a lot of points to make up and had a good lane for the first turn, unfortunately I hit the gate again and got spat out the back, I managed to work my way back to 5th at the line. A 2nd, 8th, & a 5th was enough to get me 4th overall on Sunday.

24/06 Mount Gambier report part 3
by BMXUltra.com
Monday, the final day of racing at Mount Gambier, started early and the two motos went through so quickly that it looked like we'd be done at about 12:30. But then a long break, I'm talking real long, it must have been about an hour and a half. It's my belief that the scoring system is automated so it's not like the scorers could have been having trouble adding up the points. It's just another one of those unsolved mysteries, but if any of the organisers are reading, people are quite happy to get home early, they won't mind if there's no break at all, trust me.
Finally it was time for the mains. After it had been dry all weekend we had got to the last few finals, the money classes, and it started to rain. It was just enough to make the track slippery which can mean only one thing when people are racing for money, carnage.
The first of the money classes was the 30& Over cruiser. Craig Walczuk took the win there after nearly dropping his bike in the first corner. He didn't have it all his own way, he had plenty of competition in Micheal White and the rest of the field. The crowd was a little disappointed with the outcome of this final it looked like White and Walczuk would go elbow to elbow to the line.
The women's pro class looked like it could be taken out by Ziggy Callan, but it was proven in the heats that she's not untouchable, she hit the deck in the first corner learning that lesson. In the final she got the jump on the field and looked like she would run away with the win, but lost speed through the rhythm section and opened up the next corner for Kerrie-Lee Lucas to charge through. Lucas went on to take the win, Callan hit the deck again Angela Wooding slotted into second then Sally Thomas. Mount Gambier local Louise Tye had a good weekend finishing fourth.
When the gate was ready in the A Pro mens final, Shannon Rademaker tried to get a head start but the gate held him back. By the big doubles Matt Willoughby had a bike length on Ashley McCutcheon and Josh Callan, closely followed by Nick Brookes who was leading the rest of the pack. Coming out of the first corner Willoughby lost traction and dropped his bike, the left most of the field with no where to go. Shane Claassen and Shayne Oates managed to avoid the pile up and Rademaker had pulled into third, the rest of the field were back into the race pretty quick. Shaun Craven was in fourth and trying to make moves. Claassen went on to take the win Craven had moved into second, then Oates, McCutcheon, Rademaker, Brookes, Willoughby and Callan.
In the AA men Tony Harvey and Ben Price got the early jump on the field and never looked back. Simon Anderson was fighting off 5 South Australians who looked like they had their hearts more set on taking each other out than trying to get a good finish. Wellman put Smith off the third corner, but didn't do a good job of it Smith came back in the next corner to take Wellman and himself out of the race. Were they even? I would say stupid, the way they went about it someone could have been seriously hurt. When the riders take the race of the track and into a crowd of spectators there's a lot more to consider than pride. Harvey took the win with Price in a close second, followed by Anderson in third then Leigh Huitema fourth and Aaron Lumsden in fifth.
Thanks to the organisers, the Blue Lake BMX club and a special thanks to Nick, Michelle and Jamie Brookes and Scott Bradley for their hospitality over the weekend.

23/06 Mount Gambier report part 2
by BMXUltra.com
In the past few years at Mount Gambier, 3 days of racing in the rain has been just too much so I took my time getting there only to find out that there hadn't been much rain that day. Coincidently arriving just before the Pro Open finals. To see young Ash McCoutchin, the only Vicorian in the field, take the consolation final win. South Australian AA Pro Leigh Huitema could only manage a 4th place in a strong field of A Pros. Mount Gambier local Scott Bradley has shown some improvement since I last saw him the pro field, he finished 6th. In the main for the big bucks Tony Harvey unclipped on the gate which let Simon Anderson, Ben Price and Aaron Lumsden get ahead. Local A Pro Nick Brookes was in the mix too even after a very quiet year. Lumsden had a clean run and pulled away with the win, Price had to settle for second, Harvey had worked his way through the field to put himself on the podium with a third, Michael Wellman finished fourth, Nick Brookes just managed to sneak in front of Simon Anderson on the line, while Shaun Craven and David Page were back in seventh and eighth.
Sunday was just four qualifying heats with a break between the second and third motos, which I don't understand. You take money from your local businesses for sponsorship for the event but then you keep people at the track so they can't go into town to spend money and help your sponsors. Something else I never will understand is why racing at 2 day events in Australia has one and a half days of qualifying then finals. You have all you need to have two seperate days of racing and people get a chance to make two finals rather than one. Instead of one medium sized trophy for the Ams why not 2 smaller trophies that look good. If it doesn't work for the Ams it would work for the Pro riders, split the prize money over the two days. Oh and the rain held off for a second day.
Final part to this report coming soon.

21/06 Aussie sprint trails (more info)
by BMXUltra.com
There has been a good response so far for the Sprint Trials during Melbourne's Track Attack series in January next year from as far as Queensland to Perth, but if you haven't contacted me yet, you need to let me know you are interested.
The first thing is that it will be a no clips race.
There has been a suggestion that I add an additional State of Origin side competition into the mix, which sounds like a great idea, but I won't be able to sort out teams until on the day, when I know who will be there and how many from each state.
Some details I left out yesterday were qualifying for the event. If you are AA Pro you qualify automatically. Any spaces left will be filled by A Pros, either through the timed runs or through points from the Track Attack series up until the day of the event (that will be determined later). I will try to allow a couple of spots for wildcards, but it all depends on numbers.
If we don't get enough interest it won't be worth racing, so please email webmaster@bmxultra.com and let us know if you plan on coming.

20/06 Aussie sprint trails
by BMXUltra.com
American pros have raced one-on-one in Stumpy's back yard, in the John Purse run event and at the Gravity games, and it seems to be a popular style of event amongst the pros. Why should they have all the fun? It was proven at last year's World BMX Championships and the Grands that the Australian Pros are amongst the best. And here's an opportunity to prove it once again.
If you have read this site in the past you would have seen that we are building a one-on-one sprint trails type track in the backyard, and we expect that we will be in a position to run a pro only race in the middle of the Track Attack series held thoughout Melbourne in late January. In the past the pro riders have found themselves struggling to find something to do in their downtime, this could be just what they need.
We have already commenced talks with sponsors such as Dirt Designs and others.
The idea is to have 4 (16 riders) or 5 (32 riders) rounds of eliminations to find the winner. The track will be 200-250 meters long and not a lot of pedaling, the event will be very relaxed since the pros already will have a very intense week to contend with.
We plan on building the field of riders with any AA Pros interested in racing and filling the remaining spots with A Pros. We would do a timed run to work out the fastest rider and seed the riders according to their time. The highest seeded rider for each heat will chose which lane they would like to start in.
At this point I need to find out if there is enough interest from the Aussie (and any visiting) pro riders to do all the leg work for such an event.
If you are interested in competing or sponsoring the event email webmaster@bmxultra.com.

17/06 Gambier report part 1
by BMXUltra.com
There's something about the racing in Mount Gambier, South Australia, over the Queen's Birthday weekend that makes me want to keep going back. It's hard to put my finger on it, since it usually rains all weekend...I'm talking all three days of racing...the surrounds turn into a swamp, the track gets slippery, it's cold, miserable, etc, etc.
It has taken me until this year to figure out what it is, it's the first year it doesn't rain for as long as I can remember, and I have finally figured out what it is. It's the competition. I haven't raced an "off season" regional event this year, they just seem like too much hard work for very little return, and I mustn't be the only one that thinks that because there aren't many classes that you see finals for at those events. Another thing is the friendly and relaxed atmosphere which you don't find at many meetings these days.
The track had undergone some changes, and although a lot of work has gone into the changes, there seems to be a lot more required to fix some things up. The big doubles towards the end of the first straight had a huge kicker take off, in most parts, but on the inside 2 lanes was a large pot hole that was big enough so that the guys who took the inside lanes would have to take the doubles a completely different way to the rest of the field because it would throw your back wheel up higher than your front. The far outside lanes were really mellow. The take off on the step up that followed was mellowed out which really didn't help riders carry speed through the corner to the next straight. The second straight has a new tabletop in the middle, but the takeoff for it is so rounded there's no lip, it's really just a big roller, which again takes speed from the riders and excitement out of the racing. The next two corners had been built up, which would have been fine if you were carrying lots of speed, but there was only one line through them, meaning there was no where to pass unless you shoved a rider off the top of the corner. The third corner was so tight you had to slow right down just to get around it, then to the big long straight that used to have a couple of small to medium sized jumps. It's now just a big long rhythm section. It seems like such a waste to me. Most of the spectators sit along that straight, why not give them something to look at, give them some jumps, let's get some wheels off the ground, I bet you even the junior riders, like the sprokets, would be up for that.
Part 2 of the race report coming soon.

17/06 Aussie old school DVDs
by BMXUltra.com
I received a phone call from Burt Librio earlier this week, Burt is the father of old school Aussie BMX Pro Paul Librio, he's planning on putting together some DVDs of Aussie pro racing from back in the day.
Burt was one of the most prolific camera men I remember for his time, and back then there weren't too many people around with video cameras. He was always taping to pro races and a couple of other select few classes. At one point he released a video tape that was a compilation of crashes, it was a good video.
If you want to find out more about the DVDs you can call Burt Librio in Melbourne Australia on 03 9873 1402.

17/06 Bootes Wins UCI World Ranking Round #10 in Tamworth, Australia June 2nd-3rd
TeamWBR.com press release
Tamworth BMX club was the host of round 10 of the UCI Oceania World Ranking Series and the Australian Verse New Zealand Test Series in conjunction with the Tamworth Open Day this past weekend. With over 50 riders from New Zealand flying over to support the Senior Mens and Mighty Eleven Test Challenge, it was going to be a full weekend of competition between the 2 counties. The weather was great on Saturday which seen the UCI World Ranking series take place with 3 rounds of the Test Challenge between Australia and New Zealand. Sunday was a different story as it has rained all night and the track was soaked when we arrived in the morning. The race was delayed 2 hours while the track was worked on by a lot of volunteers. Once the racing commenced everything turned out just fine. Here is how the main events unfolded during the weekend.

The final round of the Oceania UCI World Ranking series finished off perfect for Bootes. The series leader Luke Madill got the pop but Bootes powered his was down the first straight to take the lead going into the first corner. Madill was fighting hard to get back by Bootes in the second corner while Willers was close behind in 3rd. Bootes seemed to pull away up and over the bridge before entering into a huge slippery world pool corner due to an afternoon shower. Bootes went high to try to avoid the wet area while Madill took a risk and went low. Madill lost traction for a split second but was now close behind Bootes. Bootes manage to hold off Madill and Willers to take the final round of the UCI World Ranking Series. While Bootes finished 1st, 2nd, and 1st in the last 3 UCI rounds, this did not give him enough points to take over the Overall Lead due to only competing in 6 of the 10 round. With the completion of all 10 rounds, Bootes aims to be the #1 UCI Rank rider in the World in 2006.
Elite Men Results
1st Bootes TeamWBR (Aust) 2nd Madill (Aust) 3rd Willers (NZ)

Australia New Zealand Test Challenge had the crowd on their feet all day due to the race tactics of racing as a team and not as an individual. Madill and Bootes dominated the Senior test by winning all rounds between them. Tomas and Christopher rode outstanding and worked together as a team to secure the Senior Trans Tasman cup for Australia. The Mighty elevens challenge was a lot closer on points which made for some exciting racing. The Australian team manage to dominate in the final round which gave them the overall win for the Trans Tasman cup. The test series will go head to head again in October at the first round of the 2006 UCI World Ranking series in New Zealand.
Senior Test Results
1st Australia (Luke Madill, Wade Bootes, Christopher Johns, Thomas Hubert)
2nd New Zealand (Joel Burke, Richard Stratford, Tony Wilcock, Tim Furguson, Kirk Matthews)
Mighty Elevens Results
1st Australia (Adam Shields, Corey Frieswyk, Jake Thaler, Morgan Peen, Matthew Millington)
2nd New Zealand (Daniel Franks, PJ George, Ren Miller, Clive Matthews, Matthew Flower)

Tamworth Open on Sunday seen some of the riders heading home early due to the wet conditions. The AA pro class waited around to fight it out for the prize money on the day. Bootes rode the wet and soft track like it was dry, and this clearly showed as he dominated all day long. Bootes had a great start in the final and lead from Start to finish. Willers was in 2nd with Madill close behind. Madill made his move up and over the bridge but did not get by until the tight rhythm section going into the last corner. Madill got a little side ways which then seen Willers shoot off the track and finishing in last place.

16/06 Custom paint jobs
By BMXUltra.com
It's been a while since a custom paint job has really captured my eye. Actually, come to think of it, I would say it was nearly 18 months ago at the Australian BMX Championships in Adelaide, before that I can't think of anything.
While at Mount Gambier (in South Australia) on the weekend local A Pro Scott Bradley was racing a frame painted up with a tiger print, needless to say it generated a lot of interest. Which is funny because he was the same guy racing the custom painted frame at the Adelaide Aussies, back then it was sky blue with clouds.
I asked Scott about the paint job and the process, he did it all freehand with an air gun, every last detail, even the logos are painted on. As you can imagine it took him a while to complete.
Scott told me he has other designs he is going to try and he's also open to custom painting frames, helmets, or anything for that matter for anyone who is interested.
If you'd like to get in touch with Scott about his custom paint jobs his mobile phone number is 0418 849 040.

10/06 Lake MacQuarie Freak Nationals & UCI Round 9
Chicks report by Melissa Mankowski
JRN ELITE WOMAN
Some new rules were brought in a couple of weeks ago at a UCI meeting in Switzerland meaning that the girls classes for the UCI ranking rounds 5 riders constitutes a class, so it made it interesting as the JNR & SNR Elites both had classes, this wasnt too bad but we only had 3 motos and no final. Jnr Elite line up was a great field, Nicole Callisto National #1, Melissa Mankowski National #2, Sarah Walker World #2, Shannan Jobson, Kristen Moon. This was great racing, i finished up with the overall win taking out all 3 motos, Sarah Walker taking the 2nd and Nicole Callisto in for 3rd. Snr Elite saw Rena Junga take the points from Krystal Cranfield.

PRO GIRLS
Sunday's racing was even better, the 1st moto was a good one to get, we had 2 heats which ment we had a 3 final final, the 2nd heat saw riders like, Melissa Mankowski, Nicole Callisto, Tanya Bailey, Sarah Walker, Caroline Buchannan, Rena Junga and Krystal Cranfield, some how they could of split us up a little, never mind that, i took out that moto.
The riders that qualified into the main event were:
Melissa Mankowski
Nicole Callisto
Sarah Walker (NZ)
Gracie Ireland
Krystal Cranfield
Rena Junga
Lisa (NZ)
Caroline Buchannan

Main 1
The wind picked up a bit by the time the finals come around but that didnt stop anyone from jumping, the gate dropped and we all get out pretty even a few jump the step but Mankowski the only one to jump the double as well this gives her a few bike lengths lead down the Second straight its still Mankowski with the lead Walker from (NZ) in 2nd and maybe i think Buchannan in 3rd this is how they will finish Mankowski 1st, Walker 2nd Buchannan 3rd

Main 2
Again we all get out pretty good, but this time Walker and Cranfield get ahead, Mankowski not that far behind, infact Mankowski passes Cranfield in the first turn leaving her to chase Walker down she did through the rythem walker decides to manual but Mankowski finds a quicker way by jumping, Again this is how they will finish. Mankowski 1st, Walker 2nd, Callisto 3rd

Main 3
This race was a good one to watch, by this stage i was exhusted.. but it was the last race of the day. Again the gate drops and were all out pretty quick again Mankowski jumps the 1st straight but cases allowing Cranfield get under her in the first turn after nearly running me off the track Callisto took the lead, Cranfield and Mankowski sort them selves out and Mankowski gets past Cranfield in for the 3rd, but through the rythem Junga jumps past Cranfield to take the 3rd place this is how they finished.. Callisto 1st, Mankowski 2nd, Junga 3rd

End of Day Results
Melissa Mankowski - Standard / Cycology
Sarah Walker (NZ)

SINZ Expert 20” Ti Wheels – 2.98 pounds *

Trying to get the weight down on your little racer? Well then, here is a great way to loose a whole lot of it. SINZ is proud to announce the addition of the Ti Line Wheel Sets to the line of other fine SINZ wheel sets.
Each of the 4 wheel sets start out built up with a high quality cassette hub in the rear and light weight hub up front. 09/06 BOOTES on UCI Podium: Lake Macquarie, NSW - June 4th.
TeamWBR.com press release
Lake Macquarie BMX Club was the host of round 9 of the UCI Oceania World ranking series this past weekend in New South Wales. This would have to be the best or one of the best BMX tracks in Australia. Super fast and really fun to ride and race. Over 30 riders came over from New Zealand and riders from all States of Australia were also there to compete in the Lake Macquarie open day on Sunday. With the Oceania points chase coming to an end, all riders were ready to go into battle which seen some bumping and crashing going on in the finals.

The Elite Men's final event was for sure the most exciting race on the weekend. With the Current Junior Elite World Champions, Michael Fenwick not making it out of the semi, this just shows you how tough and competitive racing here in Australia is at the moment. The final line up seen the best riders within the Oceania region going head to head for those crucial World ranking points. Madill had the holeshot with Bootes on the outside and Kama on the inside going into the first corner. Kama then took the lead with Madill and Bootes getting held high. Willers and Johnston come through with a high low move which ended up seeing all 5 riders drag racing down the second straight. Kama came up short on one of the jumps which seen him moving backwards in the pack, this then seen Willers take the lead with Bootes in tow. Madill made a great move in the second corner by going in super low which then seen Willers and Madill touch, resulting into Willers running out of room and going over the 2nd corner. Kama was then back in the lead with Johnston, Madill and Bootes chasing him down. Madill managed to just get by Kama and Johnston in the rhythm section right before the last sweeping corner, while Kama was drifted wide and holding off Johnston. This then left a gap for Bootes to go inside at the end of the last corner to pass both Johnston and kama at the same time. From the last corner it was Madill who held onto the lead with Bootes, Kama and then Johnston close behind.
1st Madill, 2nd Bootes TeamWBR, 3rd Kama.

Sundays racing was also exciting to watch as we had a 3 final final, which shows the most consistent rider to take out the prize money for the day. This time it was the current Oceania points leader Luke Madill not making it to the main event, but leaving a strong field of riders in the final. It was Willers from New Zealand who won the first 2 mains with Fenwick on his tail in both finals. Kama and Bootes both had problems in the first two mains which left them with high points going into the final round. It was again Willers who had the holeshot but this soon changed after kama came in hard in the first corner resulting in Willers and Fenwick going down. Haden Deboer from New Zealand took out the final main which ended up seeing him take out the overall win followed by Willers and Fenwick. Bootes finished 5th after placing 3rd, 7th, 3rd in the 3 finals.
1st Deboer 2nd Willers 3rd Fenwick... 5th Bootes TeamWBR

The next stop on the tour will be round 10 of the UCI World Ranking Series at Tamworth, NSW June 11th and 12th, were we will see all the top Elite riders chasing the final points for the Oceania series.

A special thanks to Hogs Breath Cafe in Newcastle for taken care of the TeamWBR crew Friday night. To VW Australia for the new T5 Transporter, which made the road trip easy by having plenty of room to carry all the team supplies to the event.

Also a congratulations goes out to the WBR athlete development riders, Stevie Jensen for winning the 13-16yr boys challenge event on Saturday and the A pro event on Sunday, making him the newest AA pro rider in Australia at the young age of 15. Also to Melissa Mankowski for winning the Junior Elite Category Saturday and the Pro Open women's class on Sunday. Melissa has been working on her riding technique through the WBR athlete development program in preparation for the World Championship in Paris, France late July.

09/06 Adam Robb buys TotalBMX
by BMXUltra.com
We heard a rumour, that the Melbourne based BMX retail/mail order shop, TotalBMX/Lilydale Cycles, was going to be sold. And we heard that former Australian BMX Champion Adam Robb was the buyer, so we went straight to the source to find out if there were going to be any major changes at TotalBMX. Here's what Adam had to say.
"At this stage we are trying to secure the main brand of MTB's in Giant. We will still be doing all the major BMX brands. For now it will be business as usual until we find our feet and get a little more comfortable. The Pro Shop will be back in force, hopefully bigger and better than ever. Steve (Gorak) will be staying on with me, which is a big relief. That guy knows the place inside out. So we look forward to big things happening at Total BMX!"
Adam will be taking control July 1st.

08/06 US Trip photos
by BMXUltra.com
When I was in the US last month, I didn't take a lot of photos. It's difficult to do at the racing when you are only a few gates after the pro class and the NBL pump through the motos like it's nobody's business. A few days after the racing was over I hooked up with George Costa and his crew at the Fenway Park dirt jumps in Boston where I was based for the next couple of weeks.

08/06 Siruis/Revtec news: Jon Jon’s race report from Lake MacQuarie, Australia
Sirius/Revtec press release
We left on Thursday for Newcastle (NSW), a big thanks to Ray and Cathy Carter for their hospitality. We spent all day Thursday and Friday riding the track getting it dialed and I was ready to race on Sunday. My first moto I placed second behind a very fast Marc Willers (NZ). Second moto I finished a strong second again behind Wade Bootes (AUS) I think? My third moto was a little tougher than my previous two but I still managed a top 4.

Semi time and I drew the harder of the 2 semi's but was still feeling confident. I got a fairly strong start and was sitting mid-pack down the first straight. Luke Madill (AUS), Wade Bootes and Haden De Boer (NZ) had all got the pop on the inside and got a little bunched up in the first turn. I saw a gap and wasted no time in making the move happen, I heard some carnage above me in the first turn and managed to miss it all! I placed 2nd in the Semi behind Bootes, Scott Taylor (AUS) and Haden De Boer also transferred through.

Main #1: I got a killer start out of lane 6 and should have shut Bootes down, but not wanting to come off second best I held my line down the first straight and managed to come out of the first turn in 4th. Things didn’t go too well in the rest of the lap for me and I placed 7th over all.
Main #2: From lane 8 I got a slow start & I high lowed the first turn to again come out about 4th, following Bootes down the second straight till he got sketchy over the triple and hit the skids almost running into me! I got back up to speed to finish off 5th.
Main #3: I had gate 2 and was looking to get a good placing to put me in the top 5. I got the pop on Alex Cameron (AUS) and was looking good until I got squeezed between Bootes and De Boer. Bootes cased the double into the first turn, which allowed me past. Mid first turn and I have a chance to pick up 2nd spot until some one hits my back wheel and I go O.T.B… & that was the end of my final! 8th place in the last main and 8th place overall.

I would like to congratulate the Lake Macquarie club on a job very well done, everything ran smoothly and the track was in the best condition. Also thanks to Debbie Lamb for putting us up for 2 nights.

07/06 Australian rule change proposal
By Lyndon Downing
Please read rule change proposal to modify the BMXA rule 17.E.2 that specifies the number of riders required for semi, quarter and eighth finals. The primary reason for the change is to address a concern that many people in the sport have expressed to me that the threshold of 25 riders the current rules for semi finals to apply is too high. What the proposed rule change does is to align the thresholds for semi, quarter and eighth finals in the BMXA Regional Applications with the UCI BMX rules.

This proposal was prepared around 12 months ago for the 2004 NOC but for reasons I don’t fully understand, was not included on the agenda. Never one to give up easily, I am circulating the proposal to a wider audience this year with the hope that it will at least make the agenda at the 2005 NOC.

====== Existing Rule 17.E.2 ======
2. Quarter finals are to be run where the number of entrants exceed 6 full gates, ie. 37/49 or more on a 6/8 gate.

Semi finals are to be run where the number of entrants exceeds 3 full gates, ie. 19/25 on a 6/8 gate.
====== End of Existing Rule ======

====== Proposed New Rule 17.E.2 ======
2. The tables below details the number of riders required for semi, quarter and eigth finals for an eight lane gate.

8 Rider Gate

No of Riders Semi Quarter Eighth
Less than 17 - - -
17 - 19 Two 6 rider - -
20 - 32 Two 8 rider - -
35 - 39 Two 8 rider Four 6 rider -
40 - 64 Two 8 rider Four 8 rider -
65 - 79 Two 8 rider Four 8 rider Eight 6 rider
80 or more Two 8 rider Four 8 rider Eight 8 rider

Where the number of starting lanes is less than eight, Semi finals to be run where the number of entrants exceed 3 full gates and Quarter finals to be runwhere the number of entrants exceed 6 full gates.
====== End of Proposed New Rule ======

I would appreciate your opinion on proposed change and ask that you also make you view known to your State’s NOC representative.

07/06 Van den Berg and Hladikova win in Austria
One Bicycles press release
Van den Berg (no relation to the band) and Hladikova win in Austria.
10 years ago we went to Vösendorf in Austria for the final rounds of the European Championship. This time we went there for round 5 and 6 of the European Championship Junior and Elite Men and Women. Vösendorf BMX has 20 years experience....BUT what has changed over the years?
Even the weather was messing up the racing. Saturday's semis and mains were moved to Sunday morning, becuase of the rain. Fortunately the Sunday was a sunny day.

Lieke Klaus from Holland made the mains both days in 16 yo girls, with a 2nd place on Saturday and a 3rd on Sunday.
ONE’s Roy van den Berg from the Netherlands won round 5 in Junior Men.
With ONE’s Maris Strombergs out for a few weeks, Roy showed what ONE is all about.
In the main event of round 6 Roy had a bad start and had to settle with 6th place while Latvian Edzus Treimanus took 4th.
Roy is now in 3rd, with Maris in 4th place.
In Elite Women Aneta Hladikova from Czech Republic was on fire. Her gates were incredible. Aneta won round 5 in Elite Women with leader Jana Horakova in 7th place.
Round 6 brought a 3rd place for Jana, while Aneta had to be satisfied with 5th.
Jana is still leading the Championship with Aneta moving up to 4th place.
Next race will be the Supercross in Aigle (Switzerland).

02/06 Free Agent UK News
Free Agent UK Press Release
The new Free Agent UK team took it's first team trophy win of the year at the 2nd round of the UK National series held at Coppull England this past weekend. With a team win over the weekend Free Agent now takes the points lead in the team event in the National series for 05.
The team was composed after Geth Shooter, who works at Raleigh Bicycles in the UK, was looking to take on a new BMX brand to import into the UK for 05.
Geth, a good friend of Dale Holmes, contacted Dale to see if Free Agent in the States were looking to expand more in the UK and to see if there was any possibility of Free Agent being imported to the UK through Raleigh.
At the time Free Agent/ KHS were looking for UK distribution for their bikes and the deal was done not only for Raleigh to import Free Agent, but for a UK team to be set up and the chance to have Dale involved in the operation and have him racing at all major events in 05 throughout the UK and Europe.
Since then Free Agent is making a huge presence in the UK, not only with the factory team but a co-sponsorship programme and a deal where a local council which runs programmes for new kids involved in BMX, has 20 beginner riders all decked out on Free Agent bikes and uniforms, with a team truck to take the riders to all the events, something that is growing a lot now in the UK.
The Factory team consists of Mark Metcalfe as team manager, Alex Metcalfe, Lee Taber, Lauren Smith, Josh West, David Brown,Tony Fleming, Lewis Lacey and Vanessa Real.
The team is sponsored by Maxis Tires, ODI, THE, and Fly.
Look for Free Agent to be on top of the podium next week at round 3 of the UK National series at Peterborough. www.freeagentbmx.com

01/06 J & C Supercross race report: Akron, Ohio 5-14-05
J & C Supercross press release
Wet and muddy, that’s how the weekend started out. Saturday racing had a new elite woman, Toni Rude. She proved to be a handful for 24-7’s Samantha Allen. Sammy finished the weekend with a pair of 2nds. 18-21 expert Korey Terry got some good points with a 3-2-2- 7 and a 2-2-2-3. New to the 16 expert class, Brandon Dosch went perfect both days. He also pulled a very respectable 3rd in 16-29 open. 14 experts Chet LaFave and Scott Glannan were riding well on both days but neither made it out of their semi’s. Frances Maycroft had a good weekend with mostly 2s and 3s. You wouldn’t know he hasn’t been on his bike in months but, Rusty North made his debut into the expert class with a 5th in his main on Saturday! Rusty also ran straight 4s on his cruiser. Chaz Green dominated the 12 expert class all weekend with fellow teammate Grant Masters up in the mix too. Grant battled hard on cruiser with 1st and 2nd place finishes. Katie Maycroft was looking good in the 11 girls class with a bunch 3s on the moto sheets. Jared Goolsby was working hard in the 9 expert class. Denny Terry went 3-2-2-6 on Saturday. Our novice riders all did well with Ryan Glannan ruling the 11 year olds. He went perfect both days! 17 novices Darron Terry and Duane Wurster had a good weekend, they finished 2nd and 3rd respectively both days. After the Saturday that he had, I’m surprised 9 novice Corey Lee even got out of bed for Sunday’s racing. He had pretty much 3rds both days but had some trouble in his semi’s.
J & C Supercross had their first podium finish on Saturday with a nice 88-point team sheet. That was good for 3rd place. We would like to thank our sponsors: Supercross BMX, Fly Racing, Answer Products, Profile Racing, Takata Total Safety Systems, Delta Contracting Services, Sun Ringle, S & M Bikes and check out our newest sponsor for cool wearables: Hobo Products at http://www.hoboproducts.com.
See ya in Evansville, TM John Glannan J & C Supercross.
