We checked out the entry forms for the Vic Vs SA and the Country
Championships yesterday to find them a little confusing for those
30 and over riders. Although the Saturday race states that the
racing format for all classes is 3 motos and finals we are told
that the 30 & Over money cruiser is actually run over the
3 days. There will be 2 motos Saturday, 2 Sunday, 1 Monday and
the final. To race that class all you have to do is race age or
cruiser on the Saturday. The Vic Vs SA event for Sunday/Monday
doesn't have a 30+ 20 inch class listed, but apparently that's
just an oversight, it should have been included on the form.
We are told that entries for Saturday's country championships
have been extended by another week but you should call the number
on the entry form to confirm. Traditionally SABMXA allow no extensions
for entries for the Sunday/Monday Vic Vs SA.
I still don't understand why these meetings need to be run over
3 days. The Blue Lake BMX Club (Mount Gambier) have the right
idea, one day of racing and it's all over. But SABMXA you really
need 2 days to run a race meeting? I am sure that people stay
away from Mount Gambier for the Queens Birthday weekend because
of the rain, but you would find if you tried racing the Vic Vs
SA on the Sunday you might just get more riders, and you will
give the people a choice to stay around an extra day and explore
the area or go home. It would be a lot more appealing to local
businesses to sponsor the event if they know the bmxers will spend
money with them. Something that won't happen if the bmx crowd
are stuck at the track all weekend long.
Diamond Back press release
Kent, Washington - After the recent ABA National held in Lake
Perris, CA, Diamondback's AA Pro Racer/Dirt Jumper Nate Berkheimer
crashed and broke his femur while riding the trails located next
to the BMX track. The race was over, having got a third on cruiser
and fifth in the class semi, Nate
was just having fun jumping with everyone. The injury occurred
when he looped the first set and ejected of the second. He said
that he ran off the bike and on his third step it just buckled
and he went down. Nate said he heard the snap... gnarly! The break
was clean, the Doctor told him it was as good as you could hope
for in a break.
The update as of right now is the surgery went great. They put
in a Ti rod. Nate should be up on crutches in a week, and back
on his bike, hopefully, in about 2 month's. Nate was in good spirits
yesterday before surgery. Best wishes go out to him and lets hope
for a quick recovery!
We would also like to thank Nate's co-sponsors: FSA, Sun Ringle, SST, AXO Cycling, Pony Footwear, Dragon and Liquid Charge.
Double A Marketing press release
The ABA held round #8 of the 2006 Pro Series at Lake Perris, CA
Lake Perris has been a long time favorite of the ABA, as in the
past. Lake Perris was host for the ABA Fall Nationals, as well
as other national events. The Lake Perris track is smack dab in
the middle of an action filled area, with a Motocross track, a
shifter cart track, sprint car track, and a dirt jump/skate park,
all located at the same facility. The Lake Perris BMX track is
one of the best so cal tracks of today and it made for some of
the best Pro racing in a long time. 24 AA Pros came to win this
weekend and 2 of the Double A Marketing riders were ready to as
well. Here is how they did this weekend,
Kyle Bennett kept his streak of great results
rolling this weekend in Lake Perris. Over the past few weekends,
Kyle has been running up front come main event time and it was
no different both days this weekend. On Saturday, Kyle finished
3rd overall in the AA Pro main. On Sunday, Kyle was back on top
all day and come main event time, he just missed out on the win,
with a 2nd in AA Pro. Kyle looks forward to a weekend off, to
get ready for the next event on the 2006 Pro tour in Evansville,
IN. Kyle's sponsors include Free Agent, KHS, Fly Racing, Bombshell
F1 Fork, Sun Ringle, Shimano, UGP, Kenda, Thomson, Utopia Eyewear,
THE Products, S & M bars, ODI, ORP, OGIO, Powerbar, Cyto Sport,
and BMXpros.com.
Randy Stumpfhauser had a weekend that he wants
to forget about. On Saturday, Randy woke up with a huge pain in
his back. He tried to work through it with stretching and massage,
but he was not able to get up to AA speed until mid day, causing
him to miss out on the AA main. Randy was able to salvage the
day with still making the Pro Cruiser main event, but as he followed
Nate Berkheimer in the main event, Nate crashed and Randy had
no where to go but down. Randy was OK, but the crash was enough
for him to call it a weekend and sit Sunday out. Randy's sponsors
include GT Bicycles, Kenda, ODI, Tangent, Sun Rims, Bombshell,
Fly Racing, Powerbar, CTI Knee Braces, OGIO, X Balm, Tool Shed,
SDG, SRAM, Easton, S & M Bars, Cyto Max, and BMXpros.com.
We would like to send out our thoughts and get well soon wishes
to Nate Berkheimer, who after the races on Sunday, broke his femur
at the Lake Perris Dirt Jumps. Also congratulations to Bubba Harris
for returning from injury to take home the AA pro win both days.

bmxultra.com's own Jason Bergstrom will be racing, and taking
photos, this weekend at the Tarheel National at Tanglewood, NC.
That's the newly reconstructed track with the tough dirt jump
style pro section, that includes the berm jump, that we highlighted
a few weeks back now.
By the looks of the track he's going to have a whole lot of fun doing both. I must admit that I am envious of anyone heading to Tanglewood for the weekend, that's one track I'd like to check out for myself. Keep an eye out for Jason in his bmxultra.com/One jersey in the 30-34 expert class and don't forget to say G'day to him for us. The photos should be up on the site some time next week.
Supercross BMX press release
A
year ago Supercross BMX introduced their first BMX Poster that
featured ABA #1 Pro Women Samantha Cools on one side and Vet Pro
Todd Parry on the other to try to offer up a little bit of BMX
wall decoration that has been so sadly missed in the sport lately.
The response to these posters was great with over 5,000 of them
going out around the world to be hung up on your walls. Well it
is now a year later and the second poster is ready to be hung
on your wall. This years poster is a full color double sided poster
like last years and again features Samantha Cools on one side
and this year Kenth Fallen has taken up the bulk of the other
side with inset photos of Dave Bittner, Chris Hale and Thomas
Richards. Now the only thing cooler than a full color BMX poster
for your wall is an AUTOGRAPHED full color poster for your wall.
And the only thing better than an Autographed full color poster
is a FREE Autographed full color poster.
So this Memorial Day weekend at the ABA Spring Nationals in Lake Perris California, Samantha, Kenth, Chris and Thomas along with the rest of the Supercross Factory Team will be on hand to autograph a poster for you.
So if you are in the area of the ABA Spring nationals this weekend be sure to stop by and grab a free poster and get it signed. This will be limited to the first 300 people. Now if are not in the area but want to get a poster of your own, we can still get you set up by sending $6 in US funds for a poster and catalog to: Supercross BMX 13429 Tioga Lane, Apple Valley, CA 92308
The action photography on these posters is courtesy of Dan Mooney ABAbmx.com and James Ayres BMXonline.com

On behalf of our readers we would like to wish Luke Madill
a happy birthday for Sunday the 28th.
BMXAustralia press release
After spending the past 6 months traveling to the eastern
states and New Zealand, Perth’s top BMX rider, Tanya Bailey
(Mariginiup) is relieved to have the latest round of the UCI Oceania
Series on home soil. The 25 year old gym instructor is currently
ranked number four in the World and is aiming to take out this
weekend’s round when it gets underway on Sunday morning
at the Hills BMX track.
“I want to win this UCI Series Round,” declared Bailey, who is just 5 points behind current Series leader, Renee Junga (Brisbane) from Queensland. “If Junga (Renee) does not race the event we’ll be on equal points,” stated Bailey. Junga recently hurt her shoulder at the National Championships in Adelaide is not expected to return to racing for another two weeks.
“It’s awesome not having to put up with jetlag,” admitted Bailey. “I’ll be happy to sleep in my own bed after racing.” Although her home club is Wanneroo, this weekend’s event will be held at the Hills track at Lesmurdie. “It’s almost like a home track to us. It’s got a long first straight so that’s good,” said Bailey.
Recently selected in the World Championship team for Australia, Bailey will use this round to prepare for her assault in Brazil later in July. Her main competition will come from New Zealand’s leading rider, Sarah Walker, while fellow club rider, Kylie Patroni (Marangaroo) will be looking to make an impact.
With BMX becoming a new Olympic sport in Beijing in 2008, the intensity of the elite men’s racing has become fierce. This weekend’s competition will be one of the best Perth has seen since the World Championships in 2003 with both the current world number one and two on show. National Champion and World number one, Kamakazi will line up alongside fellow Gold Coaster Wade Bootes who at the age of 32 is only one point shy of the World number one position. New Zealand’s Marc Willers needs to gain valuable points to move ahead of Kamakazi in the Oceania Series. Perth’s own Mark Taylor (Spearwood) will be riding in his second UCI round. Also in the field are two High Performance team riders from Queensland, Michael Robinson (Brisbane) and Jamie Gray (Buderim) who are also looking for valuable points before they focus on the World Championships in Brazil. Recent injuries have put both Luke Madill (Sydney) and Warwick Stevenson(Minto) out of action.
Junior Elite Men’s racing could be dominated by Perth’s James Dixon (Safety Bay) after his selection in the Australian team for the World Championships. Dixon is now ranked second in the World Rankings. His Queensland rival and World ranked number one, Todd Pascoe (Townsville) is not expected to contest the Perth event. Two other Perth riders, Kane Gill and Andrew Gillett (Wakiki) will be keen to prove their third and fifth places at the National Championships. Gill should have an advantage racing on his home track.
Racing gets underway on Saturday at 1pm then on Sunday morning at 9am the UCI Round and Champbikx Series will have some fast and furious racing for 2 hours. The WA Superseries continues after 11am.

Here's another repsonse to our discussion asking people what they
thought of this years Australian Championships now that it's over.
Brooke Ellison
My dad took myself and 2 of my brothers down to Adelaide for the
titles and he was really impressed at how organised it was, from
the bike security to the pro shops, and especially how quickly
they are able to push through the amount of races i.e by dropping
the gate 3/4 way through the previous race. He was also amazed
at their ability to create a world class track indoors. He hasn't
been to a race meet of that size before and was blown away by
the first class event we call our Australian Titles!
by bmxultra.com
We all know how much BMX racers enjoy letting their hair
down, having a little fun, but still getting to flex a bit of
BMX racing muscle. That's what makes one on one style racing perfect
for BMXers. I am sure you all know what I am talking about, DC
shoes sprint trails or the Aussie version, BSX. Both events are
more than just a passing fad, it's just a different release for
the riders, it allows us to see a different side of each riders
personality and it pushes their skill sets a little further than
a wide open standard sized BMX track.
With Luke Madill injured, it's giving him time to think about
the backyard race that he's been talking about for a while. We
received an email from him yesterday, he's organising his track
and wanted to know about the insurance, etc that we used at the
BSX event. More importantly he wanted to know if we interested
in joining forces and run a two race series. One race being the
BSX (Victoria) and another at the Madill compound (New South Wales).
The BSX will be on Monday January 21, held during the week of
the Track Attack series. Luke's race is yet to be confirmed.
We are still toying with the idea, at this stage, and need to
get some feedback here to make this happen, and to make it the
best is can possibly be. If you think you can race at either event
can you send us an email and let us know. Don't forget to tell
us which class, and which event if you can only attend one, or
both if you think you can get to both. It will be pro only, so
the classes will probably be pro women, pro men, and 30 &
Over open wheel.
One thing we will be adding to the BSX for 2007 is freeride time
so riders can just have fun without any pressure, maybe even styling
it up for the cameras. Something else, the BSX is primarily a
fund raiser for the Royal Children's Hospital Foundation, so we
thought people might pay a certain amount of money to set up their
own match races. Say they put $50 down and they decide to make
Jamie Gray race against his good friend Glenn Codega, the winner
gets bragging rights and the money all goes to charity. If you
have any other suggestions that will make the events more fun
for riders and spectators be sure to send an email to webmaster@bmxultra.com.

Andrew has been brought out of the coma which was induced by the
doctors and also taken off the respirator and sedation. Signs
are looking good. He knows who he is and where he is, and although
he isn't fully conscious yet he is reponding to the commands given
by the ICU team and these are all good signs.
Our thanks to everyone who have sent messages and been in contact
with us, we will keep you updated during his recovery.

Many Australian BMX racers who have been around for a while
would have met Victorian gate starter Andrew Jeffree, he's the
one with the tattoos. He hasn't been to a lot of meeting over
the past few years, pursuing other interests, but he does show
up at most of the major events in Victoria. Andrew has a very
friendly personality and puts the riders safety first which is
why he is the riders' preferred gate starter. We heard that he
had a heart attack over the weekend, which came as quite a surprise
as he seemed the most unlikely cantidate for a heart attack. From
what we hear Andrew is in a coma and the full damage from the
heart attack is still yet to be determined, but doctors are hopeful.
Our thoughts and best wishes go out to Andrew and his family.

Also the top 8 qualifers in pro 20 and cruiser will have a one
time hot lap against the clock, F.1.style, for money and gate
pick. This meeting needs to be well attended if these things are

Here's another repsonse to our latest discussion asking people
what they thought of this years Australian Championships now that
it's over.
Jane Durso
It was extremely well run - Congratulations to all those who helped.
One of the problems I had with the Aussies is the spectators stands . There was so many incidents of people moving bags, riders coming back from their race only to find out that their sit was now taken, arguments of we were here first etc.
I feel if each section was designated to a state, knowing one another and with team effort allot of this could of been avoided.
Imagine the atmosphere if each state had its own section ???
Me personally , well I was cheering for every Vic I knew racing in the finals. I cried when one young man who I watch locally but don't know made the finals. To me its all about Fun , Team spirit and making knew friends.
Next year no excuses every state should have a Team top - whether it be a polo top, t-shirt or a jersey. Ever rider likes to feel they are part of a team and I'm sure allot of parents/friends want to show off who they support.
Double A Marketing press release
Round #6 of the 2006 NBL Pro Series was held this past weekend
in Prunedale, CA and with just 2 more NBL Pro Series event left,
the title chase is getting hot. Donny Robinson had a nice lead
in the Elite men's point for most of the season, but after a great
weekend of results for both Double A Marketing riders in attendance,
Randy Stumpfhauser and Kyle Bennett have both chipped away at
the points lead and put themselves in great positions to take
home another NBL #1 Pro title. Here is how the weekend went for
both riders:
Randy Stumpfhauser had a weekend to remember
in Prunedale. On Saturday, Randy won every lap in competition
on the track all the way up to both the NBL Elite main event and
the UCI Elite Men's main event. When the gate fell for the NBL
Elite main, Randy continued his streak of wins, as he took the
race from start to finish. Randy just missed out with a completely
perfect day when it came to the UCI main event, as he was just
off the front spot and finished up 3rd. On Sunday, it looked as
if Randy was going to keep his winning streak going, as he once
again was out front all day. As the NBL Elite main rolled off,
he was out front, winning the Sun Ringle Hole Shot award in the
process, but he couldn't hold off the huge charge by Kyle Bennett
down the last straight, and finished up 2nd. Randy's sponsors
include GT Bicycles, Kenda, ODI, Tangent, Sun Rims, Bombshell,
Fly Racing, Powerbar, CTI Knee Braces, OGIO, X Balm, AC, Tool
Shed, SDG, SRAM, Easton, S & M Bars, Cyto Max, and BMXpros.com.
Kyle Bennett went 4 for 4 this weekend, by making
all the Elite main events. On Saturday, Kyle looked to be the
only rider who was going to give Randy a run for his money in
the main events, but in both the NBL Elite and the UCI Elite races,
he had a bit of bad luck and would finish in the in the back of
the pack placing 8th in both. On Sunday, Kyle was ready to make
up for his small mistakes and in the NBL Elite Men's Main event,
he did just that. Kyle was in 2nd behind Randy for most of the
lap, stalking him and waiting for his chance to pass and he did
just that out of the last turn and taking home the win. Kyle also
placed 7th in the UCI Elite main on Sunday. Kyle's sponsors include
Free Agent, KHS, Fly Racing, Bombshell F1 Fork, Sun Ringle, Shimano,
UGP, Kenda, Thomson, Utopia Eyewear, THE Products, S & M bars,
ODI, ORP, OGIO, Powerbar, Cyto Sport, and BMXpros.com.

Here's the first repsonse to our latest discussion asking people
what they thought of this years Australian Championships now that
it's over.
Matt Cobham
We are a fairly new BMX family having only been in the sport for
around 3 years. We have one son who races in the 11 year boys
class.
This was our second National titles - Cairns last year being the first. It's fair to say the family is hooked on the sport and we have probably been to around 20 different tracks in WA and Qld. Without a doubt, Cairns was the best track we have seen - it gave riders of any level and age the opportunity to show their skills - right through from sprockets to the elite. Then there was Adelaide.
From our opinion, the positives:
From our opinion, the negative:
Value for money? I drove from Perth (company car so no cost) 2 x airfares from Perth (wife and son) , 1 weeks accommodation, food, entry fees etc, divided by number of laps my son rode on the track (including practice laps) = $80 per lap - on a track that in my opinion was a joke (30 plus hours driving home gives you time to think about stuff like that).
BMXA can talk about Olympics and UCI as much as they want - but if they don't cater for the grassroots of the sport and build tracks the kids will enjoy riding on, it will all be in vain, as kids and parents will lose interest and take up other sports.
by Tony Harvey

GT Australia press release
As you may be aware, Luke Madill (GT Bicycles Australia’s
#1 Pro) was seriously injured in a crash at the BMX Nationals
in Adelaide. Luke suffered three broken vertebrae in his back
and one in his neck, a broken hand and a broken nose.
It is with huge relief that we announce Luke is now at home and
making a strong recovery. Stephen Robinson and Brad Bates visited
him during the week. Stephen was a little shocked when he saw
Luke in the neck brace, but has advised that “Luke is looking
fit and well, and appeared to be no different, apart from a stiff
upper body and neck”.
Luke is maintaining a super positive attitude and plans to be
back on his bike as soon as possible.
All the staff at GT Bicycles Australia wish Luke a speedy recovery.

Just days after the Australian Team was announced we have
heard that the 2004 UCI World Champion, Australia's Warwick Stevenson,
has broken his collarbone and may not make it to the 2006 World
Championships.
At the rate the Australian team members are injuring themselves we are likely to see some new faces representing Australia at the upcoming Worlds in Brazil.
by bmxultra.com
We just heard from Luke Madill via email about how he's going
since his crash at the Aussies a couple of weeks back, here's
what he had to say.
"Only just been getting around a bit better the last few days. I go for new scans on Monday to see if the swelling has gone down and if there is any major damage. I'm still pretty sore and still think it's going to be a few months before I can start thinking about training and getting back on the bike. I have already lost 7 kilos in 2 weeks so think it will be a long recovery."

John Seiler sent through this email which inspired this
discussion:
I didn't attend the Aussies this year but would love to hear some
wrap up. Things like track rating, spectator fees (was it worth
the money?), was cruisers on Thursday good idea or not? even a
rating for overall BMX family value. Good wraps or bad, let's
hear the gloss and the wash.
Shane Jenkins/bmxultra.com/did not attend nationals.
One thing that I noticed was that the number of entries was blown
right out of proportion. I heard there were reports of 1800-1900
entries, and that it was a record number. It was so obvious to
a BMX racer that BMXAustralia had cooked the books, because they
threw in the 800 or so pre-titles entries, which is a completely
separate event. If you want to talk records, let's go back to
Ashmore in 1983 there were legitimately 1800+ riders for the Australian
National Championships. 1000 or so entries to this years Aussie's
is a good number, the sport is healthy at the top end. So why
do we need to exaggerate? Why don't we spend our efforts building
up the grass roots of the sport, then maybe you can start talking
real record entries.
If you have anything to add to this discussion email webmaster@bmxultra.com.

Hi, my name is Blake Erdmann, I raced my bike back in 92 in Oklahoma
city at the Oklahoma Grand Nationals. I placed 3rd. I was wondering
where I could find some info on myself about this. I don't have
any video of this or pictures, I just have a big trophy. I'm 23
years old now so I would have been about 10 or 11 years old at
the time of the race. Any info would be great. Thanks

ONE KENDA press release
Round 3 and 4 of the European Championship for Junior/Elite Men
and Women were held in Betzingen, Germany.
Magalie Pottier from France and Aneta Hladikova from Czech Republic were back from their injuries.
Round 3
It seemed nothing bothered Magalie Pottier.
Although she was still recovering from the crash she had in practice in France, she was able to grab 2nd place in the main in Junior Women.
In Junior Men Edzus Treimanis from Latvia and Roy van den Berg from Holland were going as smooth as usual.
Edzus Treimanis took 4th and Roy van den Berg took 3rd.
In Elite Women, Blandine Cottereau from France showed that her results in round 1 and 2 weren’t a coincidence.
Aneta Hladikova is on her way back to the top. Her racing showed she is getting there.
In the main event Blandine took the lead. In the last turn she left a gap open which made Jana Horakova from Czech Republic pass her.
This slowed her down and a 3rd place was still a spot on the podium.
Aneta Hladikova got stuck in the pack on the first straight and settled for 8th place.
Everybody was looking forward to Elite Men class. Top 10 is very competitive.
Arturs Matisons and Maris Strombergs, both from Latvia, were planning to do better then in France.
Both Maris and Arturs were flying all day in round 3.
Maris Strombergs managed to make it into the main event as a rookie in Elite Men class.
Arturs Matisons also flew his ONE colors to main event.
The main event was an awesome one. Everyone needs to check out the video on SCHIJFBMX later this week.
Fair racing, clean moves at high speed.
Arturs Matisons got out of the first turn in 1 st place followed by Michal Prokop from Czech Republic who took over. Then they went neck on neck with Prokop going for 1st and Matisons for 2nd. Maris Strombergs took 7th.
Round 4
Magalie Pottier again was fast. The slippery turns, due
to the rain, made her slide away and crash.
Magalie is now 9th overall, moving up from nothing.
Edzus Treimanis and Roy van den Berg both made it to the main again.
Edzus crossed the finishline in 5th and Roy in 6th position.
Roy is in 3rd overall and Edzus in 4th.
In Elite Women Blandine Cottereau and Aneta Hladikova were both in the same moto, which seemed like a semi.
Both riders made it to the semis, but only Aneta managed to transfer to the main where she took 7th place after another rider got stuck in het rear wheel.
Blandine is in 3rd now overall and Aneta moved up from nothing to 11th.
Elite Men was the last race of the weekend. Maris Strombergs and Arturs Matisons both made it to the main and once again Arturs had the holeshot. This time he finished it well and took 1st. Maris finished as 8th.
Arturs Matisons is now leading the championship in Elite Men, Maris is in 11th.
Next stop, round 5 and 6 in the Netherlands

Melinda will follow in the footsteps of Ziggy Callan.
All the Redline Crew did a Fantastic job this year, our own Mighty

Michael Vockenson (Sunshine Coast Hinterland Club - South Qld)
Pulled off what could only be described as a BMX Riders Dream
Run. Vockenson took on the Junior Elite Cruiser class on the Friday
against fierce competition, jumping his way to victory through
the notorious Pro section which claimed many victims.
Vockenson, best known for his masterful technical skills, handled
the monster Pro-Section like a Seasoned Professional, which guaranteed
him a well deserved Win. You would have to see the video to appreciate
the calculated ride Michael staged for the screaming crowd, to
fully appreciate the difficulty of this Pro section.
Vockenson proceeded to take out the 20" Junior Elite Class
on finals day Saturday in another Perfect run, resulting in a
DOUBLES Victory for the Team REDLINE rider.
Vockenson has now certainly proved he is a major player in the
Junior Elite class along with his Redline team mate's Todd Pascoe,
Ashley Pemberton, and Damien Rosenthal..., stamping his mark on
the Aussie BMX Champs 2006.
Congrats Michael..., We cannot say enough about this rider, and
we are sure Michael will return home to Queensland to many accolades.

bmxultra.com has been partnered with ECI, Elite Cycle Imports,
for about 18 months now but things have ramped up a little more
to allow us to do more product reviews. We currently have THE
Dice seats, S&M race bars, S&M race forks and Sun Ringle
CNC Octane mag pedals under the microscope. Things are going great
at the moment, with no problems with any of the products so far.
We expect that the THE Dice seat will be the first review we write
up from this batch of products. Keep an eye out over the coming
months for the up coming reviews. That's right, months. If you
haven't taken a look at our reviews yet you probably don't know
that we pride ourselves on giving you the most accurate review
we can. Instead of riding for a few hours with a product and calling
that a review, we use the products for months to give things time
to see how they really hold up. We call it Life Cycle Testing.

A lot of you would have noticed problems with bmxultra.com
over the past 24 hours, we're sorry for the bumpy ride. I would
like to thank those of you who contacted me to let me know about
the issues. I normally would just go on as if nothing happened,
especially since a lot of our visitors don't drop by every day,
but there are a number of you who do.
I use a web hosting company that guarantees 99.9% uptime and full weekly backups, but found even that isn't perfect. The company decided that they would improve their service by moving to another location, which meant that they were going to migrate the site across to a new server, promissing 10 times greater download speeds. Well their weekly backup only grabbed 1/10th of bmxultra.com and so the site was down and out since that much of the site just doesn't cut it. None of the 150mb of images (and video) were there, none of the news, or much of anything else for that matter, so you wouldn't have been able to get far even if you tried. I have pushed all the pages that I could but didn't have anything to fall back on with the top 100 and classifieds...so hopefully I can sort those out soon.
Let us know if you find a broken link, or something that looks weird and we'll sort it out as soon as we can.

An international collaboration between Melbourne’s Arena Theatre Company and Manchester’s Contact, SKID 180 follows the story of a group of urban BMX riders in a performance that integrates live BMX, film, animation, poetry and sound.
Four years in the making, with development taking place in both Melbourne and Manchester, this innovative and ambitious collaboration was born out of the creative synergies between Arena Theatre Company and Contact, both recognised world leaders in creating dynamic contemporary theatre that genuinely engages young audiences. SKID 180 opens in the UK this month and will tour the UK before its Australian season.
Featuring a company of dynamic young UK actors, plus professional BMX rider Chris Mahoney, SKID 180 boasts a striking set design constructed of ramps, multiple screens and filmic images to produce a recapitulated view of Manchester and Melbourne. A contemporary urban fairytale, this is a work that truly celebrates new voices for the theatre in every aspect of its creation.
Rosemary Myers, Artistic Director of Arena Theatre Company said “The artistic exchange between Contact and Arena has been an incredible experience for us. SKID 180 has been a four-year process of developing a common language through different artforms, about the place of young people in our communities. The opportunity to observe BMX subculture in Manchester and Melbourne has had a huge impact on our approach. We believe that young people are at the cutting edge of cultural expression, and that it’s new forms like BMX, video art and street poetry that will lead to the reinvigoration of theatre.”
John McGrath, Chief Executive of Contact, said “SKID 180 has been a great opportunity for two companies from opposite sides of the world to share ideas about the future of theatre. Arena and Contact are both creating tomorrow's performances for young, dynamic audiences, with some of the most exciting up and coming artists. SKID 180 has been a chance to put Manchester and Melbourne artists into the same creative mix and the result should be a theatrical explosion!”
In 2006 Arena Theatre Company will celebrate an incredible 40 years of presenting provocative, adrenaline-pumping performances for young audiences.

Australian National BMX Championships May 4th - 7th
The Adelaide Show Grounds hosted the Australian National Championships and round 8 of the UCI World ranking series this past weekend in Adelaide, South Australia. With close to 1900 entries from all over Australia, New Zealand, China and Japan, it was for sure going to give us some exciting racing. The weather was on and off with rain but this had no effect on the track as it was built indoors. The track had a tight first corner which saw a lot of crashes and it also featured a big tight Pro Section which sorted the Men from the boys. Here is how the championship unfolded for TeamWBR.
Bootes was looking to regain his lead of the UCI World ranking series as he was looking strong all day. With getting held up in the first corner Bootes tried to come back strong but lost control through the Pro section and hit the ground hard. This gave him 8th for the day and slipping back 1 position overall.

National Championship final saw Bootes take the lead into the first corner, but this was not the out come. With Kamakazi and Robinson on the inside going in hot to the bottom of the corner this lead to a crash on the exit. Stevenson hit the back wheel of Bootes from the top side which saw Bootes fall into Robinson which left Kamakazi from lane 1 have a clear run from the exit of the first corner to the finish line.

Queenslanders took the treble in the BMX Probikx International
Shootout as part of the National Championships being held in Adelaide.
Michael ‘Tiger’ Robinson won the elite mens final
after defeating second in the World Rankings, Wade Bootes and
UCI Series Winner, Warwick Stevenson and Jamie Gray. The 23 year
old from Greenbank in Brisbane had been the quickest in practice
but been unlucky with his starts.
“I got the gate I wanted,” he announced. “Then I had a good first straight."
“Personally to put together a perfect lap in a final and that means the most to me,” Robinson pointed out.
The final had 4 of the top riders but Robinson was not daunted. “There was Jamie (Gray) who was riding really well. I was worried about Wade (Bootes) on the turns,” Robinson said.
Queenslanders currently have an abundance of top BMX riders with Gray, Bootes and Kamakazi. “Maybe it’s the weather,” suggested Robinson.
New National Champion, Kamakazi was unlucky in semi-final of the Probikx race when he fell on the second berm. The top rider over the three days was Kamakazi who finished second in the UCI Round on Friday and topped it off with winning back the national number one title on Saturday night.
The newly crowned National Champion proved her win last night was well deserved when she backed it up with a win in the Probikx elite women’s event. Tanya Bailey from Perth was second with Tanya Thiele in third.
James Dixon from Western Australia won the Junior Men’s race after a disappointed Todd Pascoe finished 7th.The Junior Women was won confidently by Moranbah’s Melissa Mankowski after Ziggy Callan and Angela Wooding got tangled on the first corner.
Round 5 of the Champbikx series was conducted with the stars being Caroline Buchanan(Canberra) who won the 16 Girls and Jye Danielson who won the 16 Boys finals.

BMXAustralia press release
An emotional Kamakazi won the National BMX Championships
tonight in Adelaide. The 24 year old from Queensland (Jimboomba)
won in convincing style and stayed clear of Adelaide’s hometown
hero, Michael Fenwick.
Kamakazi dedicated his win to injured mate Luke Madill, last year’s winner who is currently recovering from three broken vertebrae in Adelaide’s Royal Hospital. "I told him (Luke) this morning I was going to win it,” said a jubilant Kamakazi.
Fenwick was bridesmaid again this year but content after two crashes yesterday saw him out of the International Round. The National Championships was an open book after injuries were sustained by the Australia’s leading riders on the World rankings, Luke Madill and Renee Junga.
Bronze medalist was Jonathan Hoare from (Waverly) Melbourne. New Zealand's Marc Willers came fourth. Another crash for Wade Bootes (Gold Coast) eliminated any hopes of another title.
“I didn’t get out as good as Wade Bootes or Michael Robertson but getting into the first turn I knew I take the move or give someone else the win so I went right to the top of the turn,” explained Kamakazi.
“It caused a little bit of mayhem but from then on in I was just concentrating on being smooth and fast. That’s all I needed to get to the win,” said Kamakazi.
Krystal Cranfield (Gladstone) controlled the elite women’s race to take out the National Jersey. A crash on the first turn eliminated the lead rider, Kylie Patroni but fellow Western Australian, Tanya Bailey hunted Cranfield to the line to get second place.
"I was just so happy that I won it, leading and then coming around that first berm and then oh my god. I wasn’t worried about anything. I was just wanting to get to that line first,” said an elated Cranfield.
Third was Tanya Thiele from Queensland.
Disappointment reigned in the Junior men with both favourites, Todd Pascoe (Townsville) eliminated beforehand and James Dixon (Western Australia) caught up in a crash in the final. The way was open for Michael Vockenson from Queensland to take out the win.

We just got word that Kamakazi reclaimed the Australian Elite
men's championship crown that he lost to Luke Madill in Cairns
last year. The only other rider we have news for is Jonathan Hoare,
former bmxultra.com team rider. He finished 3rd in the Elite men's
final. When we spoke to him only a week ago he told us he hadn't
been training because he'd injured himself so he was going to
just go to the Aussie and have some fun with it and build on his
race experience.

Four of the bmxultra.com crew headed to Adelaide this weekend
for the Australian Championships. Levi Collins and Brett MaliC
have already made their cruiser finals. Levi (far right of photo)
finished 5th in the Senior Elite cruiser and Brett (center of
photo) finished 8th in the 35-39 men's cruiser. Scooby Guyers
(the other rider in the pic - left) raced 15-16 cruiser but we
have been unable to find out his result. The boys all have more
racing on the 20 inch bikes throughout the weekend.
Adam Carey, who has been putting together some awesome results in A Pro this year, had a heavy fall on Thursday and ended up in hospital. With concussion and other injuries he was out for the racing, so he headed home early to recover. A tough call, but we are sure he'll be back on his bike in no time.
While on the subject of the bmxultra.com crew, Jason Bergstrom, our US rider will be racing at Nashville TN this weekend. He'll be chasing points for the NBL national series. Jason is currently ranked 26th in the 30-34 Expert class with only having raced 4 nationals so far this season.
Good luck this weekend guys.

We have heard a little more about Luke's current condition
thanks to Gavin D of XBR.com.au (BMX racing newspaper). "Madill
is not in a good way and is still waiting for swelling to go down.
I spoke with his dad and we can keep our fingers crossed that
things will work out OK. Our thoughts go out to Luke. A massive
card was signed by most riders at the track with people waiting
patiently for up to 15 minutes and longer to add their support
to the card."
Here's a video that was pointed out to us which is an SBS story about Madill's injury and the Victorian team chasing their Olympic dream. http://media.putfile.com/SBS_BMX_Story
The well wishes are trickling in for Luke, here's what we have so far, the original emails have also been forwarded to Luke:

BMXAustralia press release
BMX rider, Warwick Stevenson has got selectors' attention
after winning the 8th Round of the UCI Oceania Series in Adelaide
tonight. The 25 year old Stevenson, from Minto in New South Wales
is seeking a spot on the Australian tem to compete in the World
Championships in July. Sevenson showed that missing the first
race of the night only spurred him on to win the valuable 12 points.
“I started off a little shaky. I saw the guys I was racing against and saw them huffing and puffing,” said Stevenson who missed his first of three motos.
He went on to win his next two races then placed second in the 1/4 and semi. “I felt psyched. I felt good and I was able to perform under pressure which is like racing a main event,” pointed out Stevenson.
The win for Stevenson puts his knee surgery behind him. “Two weeks ago I was getting flogged,” he admitted. “My goal was to win tonight and put it in everybody’s head that I’m back.”
Stevenson is hoping his win will assist his selection into the Australian team for the World Championships and a future berth in the Olympic Team.
The final of 8 riders started without several of the top ranked riders. The UCI Oceania Series leader, Marc Willers from New Zealand, Melbourne's Tony Harvey and Adelaide’s favourite, Michael Fenwick were forced to watch from the sidelines.
The level of competition in Australia has been elevated since the announcement of BMX becoming an Olympic Sport in Beijing.
Second was Kamakazi (Gold Coast) and Jamie Gray (Brisbane) finished third. The unluckiest rider was Wade Bootes (Gold Coast) who crashed on the pro section of the track.
The elite women’s race was marred by a crash in the second straight. The series leader, Renee Junga (Brisbane) suffered a broken collarbone and is expected to be out of training for several weeks. Western Australian, Tanya Bailey led the race and stayed in front starving off the younger Krystal Cranfield (Gladstone) by a tyre width. Third was Kylie Patroni.
Junior women's winner, Melissa Mankowski (Central Queensland) won while the Junior men's race saw an upset with series leader, Todd Pascoe(Townsville) who ended third with James Dixon first and Adelaide's Matthew Willoughby in second.
The 16 year Champbikx Rounds were taken out by Canberra's Caroline Buchanan and in the boys race Steven Janssen(Nerang) won over Dirk Winter(Gold Coast)

BMXAustralia press release
Current National Champion, Luke Madill crashed
in practice late last night eliminating any chance of a double
gold and possibly his chance at competing in the World Championships
in Brazil in July. Madill suffered three broken vertebrae and
a broken nose after attempting the technical pro section. Madill,
last year’s champion, is disappointed and said he was just
trying to take the last jump too low.
The pro section has been included to give elite riders similar conditions of World and Olympic courses.
Madill is awaiting results of an MRI before being moved from the spinal care ward at Royal Adelaide Hospital. The top ranked rider in the World at present, Madill from Sydney, suffered a major injury in America several years ago which resulted in a plate in his wrist.
The World’s highest ranked female elite rider, Renee Junga has returned to her hometown of Adelaide where she started BMX racing 15 years ago. Junga, now from Brisbane, will head the elite women’s field when their serious racing gets underway on Friday night in Round 8 in the UCI Oceania Series. The 19 year old has a secure hold on the series with 16 points from fellow Queenslander, Krystal Cranfield (Gladstone) on 59 points. Western Australian, Tanya Bailey is currently in third while the World Mountain Cross Champion, Jill Kintner from the USA is 4th.
Officials are arriving from the International Cycling Body (UCI) and Cycling Australia to the newest Olympic cycling sport. On hand will be the Australian Olympic Committee’s Media and Communications Officer, Mr Mike Tancred.

We have just heard that current Australian elite champion
Luke Madill had a heavy fall last night when practicing on the
Australian Championships track in Adelaide. Apparently he'd hit
up the pro section and was looking comfortable but when he took
it at race speed he came unstuck and was KO'd for about half an
hour. Onlookers suggested that he might have a serious neck injury
because of the way he crashed.
I guess the severity of his injuries will be known if he returns
to the track today to defend his cruiser title that he won in
Cairns last year.
Apparently once practice was over last night the equipment was
fired up to make some adjustments to the track. We were also told
that the track didn't have a whole lot of flow but things may
have changed.
UPDATE: 04/05 9:30AM - Luke has 3 broken vertebrae, a broken nose and a broken hand. Our thoughts go out to Luke, he's a great champion and has bounced back from some horrific injuries through his career. We hope that he's able to recover quickly.
If you would like to send on your well wishes email webmaster@bmxultra.com, we'll post them here and forward them on.

Sirius Bicycles press release
BMX New Zealand announced its High Performance squad for the 2006/2007
season today & 11 of the 18 riders listed are also Sirius
Bicycles team riders. Congratulations to; Callum Gifford (MCS),
Cameron Cole (One Bicycles), Haden de Boer (Revtec), Jason Kelly
(Intense BMX) Lisa Horlor (Hyper), Marc Willers (Staats), Mickey
Williams (Supercross), Rhys Telford (Avent/Bombshell), Scott Hosking
(Staats), Tim Ferguson (Staats), & Victoria Hill (Avent/Bombshell).
Marc, Rhys, & Lisa along with fellow kiwis Sarah Walker, Tony Wilcock, & Matt Cameron make up the NZ team winging their way to Adelaide, South Australia this weekend to race at the Australian Titles. Good luck team.
At the conclusion of the Aussies Marc, Sarah, & Tony will remain in Australia to train with the NZ coach Grant White as part of their build-up to the UCI World Championships in Brazil.
Then in June the NZ team comes together again in Australia to compete at Lake Macquarie & Tamworth. Joining them will be Victoria, Haden, Jason, Mikey, & Axel Jones. The boys make up the senior test team to compete against Australia in the now infamous Trans-Tasman Challenge. Mikey (Junior Men) & Axel (16 Boys) are the youngest riders on the team but if their recent form is anything to go by both riders will not be left wanting.
So even though the NZ domestic season has come to an end there is still plenty of racing to come for these “flying kiwis”.

Hi, Great
Interview with Glenn, there was some answers in the interview
as to the discussion question you ask the other week. Which was
how do you grow grass roots BMX. The answer is talk to the likes
of yourself and Glenn and other riders and parents. BMXA have
to start listening because it is so true, 10 percent may be Olympic
focussed but the rest just want to race, ride, meet new friends
and just do the family bmx thing. As for getting rid of A Pro,
that's right, make the rider who dreams of just making A Pro instead
of racing age and now they have to just ride AA. I know now in
QLD if you race money class and are under 17 years of age you
must race your age as well. So if the rider was happy to just
race for the money, the other riders 14 to 16 years still had
fun chasing their dream. Now the 14 to 16 yrs rider cleans up
the money class and their age which they must race now. All it
does is prop up the age classes but doesn't help the lower rider
who is just riding for the love and doesnt want to race the money
class. All in all riders like Glenn have been around and seen
lots are down to earth and the sort of guy that would do well
going for a BMXA position (don't laugh, he wonders what he will
do after bmx) well Canberra is waiting and the limo will look
good at the Summernats.
