Eastern Region press release
The Eastern Region of BMX Victoria , grateful for the support
of DK Bicycles, the Victorian Government and the National Bicycle
Association, will be running the DK Bicycles Track Attack 2007

The prize money is fantastic. The Series, run at 6 different venues
over eight days, offers AA Men $2800 per round, and 'Supergirls'
and A Men $1100 each, per round.
In addition a round of the National Probikx Series and a UCI ranking
round will be run on the second day of the Series.
As if this wasn't enough, there will be a Bonus Pool for Money
& Voucher Class riders who enter and compete in the whole
Series, so get your holidays booked, your accommodation planned
and get on down to Melbourne in January 2007 for the biggest Series
in Australia next year.
Entry form in the race calendar.

I competed in the 30 & Over money class cruiser at the
2004 South Australian State championships, and I have to say I
had a ball. The class had 3 gates from memory, around 20 riders.
This year it seems that with more money up for grabs the only class that has improved in numbers since then is AA Pro, the rest of them have taken a real dive. I know in both the 30 & Over cruiser and 20" there's not even a gate for each, despite the very nice prize money. The funny thing is more than half the field comes from Victoria. Come on guys, even if you get last in the main you will get your money back. If you don't support those races with that sort of prize money it may not be available to you again in the future.
Entries for the money classes close Friday. See the race calendar for entry form with details.

Khalen Young is back on a bike and in training
(how many times have we said that now?) we hear his first big
race back will be Knox Thunderdome.
I've heard that Travis Turesson was planning
on hitting up the Christmas Classic in Columbus OH in the Elite
Masters class, he also plans to run flat pedals.
Casey and Karl Mustchin had their first child
last week. It's a girl! Indiana Storm Mustchin.
There is some truth to the rumour that Brett MaliC
and his new bmxultra.com team mate Wolf Man are
romantically invoved.

SE Bikes press release
It came from the darkness...
The first issue of the Quadangle Looptail prototype frame has stepped back into reality. It's been 20+ years since this legendary frame was last produced. Well, it's coming back onto the scene. But in limited numbers. So you better track down your favorite SE dealer before they're all gone.
Only available as a frame
Don't forget that CHROME Landing Gear forks will also be available. Landing Gears are the perfect compliment to the Quadangle Looptail frame.
Going to Interbike? Stop by the SE booth (# 3780). Maybe we'll let you touch it...

What a race! That was my take on the weekend. I think we only
get one perfect day in Geelong and for two years in a row we have
nailed it in September. The track was good, still needed some
fixing in a few spots, but great for racing. A bunch of heavy
hitters turned up like Warwick "The Warlock" Stevenson,
Daniel Johnstone, Brian Kirkham and all the Victorian pros. With
a three final final it was shaping up to be an action packed event.
In the main everyone was in there, even world champion Ash McCutcheon
made the cut.
Main 1, gate dropped and it was the Warlock with the pop. He managed
to take the first main start to finish with Kirkham on his tail.
Main 2. Stevenson gets away again, then clips out allowing Johnstone
and Kirkham to get by. The rest of the pack is banging bars as
they cross from left to right trying to find away around the riders
in front. HRV goes pack jumping in the third straight as he comes
down and collects Jon Hoare's shoulder, ended up with a bit of
a head bongo but is able to continue.
Main 3. Gate drops and its Kirkham again with the lead, Stevenson
needs to invest in some new clips. But it's all the South Australian
flyer, Brian Kirkham, who brings home the goods and takes home
the overall win.
Geelong BMX Club would like to thank every one who turned out to race, especially the guys from SA for coming over. A special thanks to all our supporters and sponsors for helping us to stay in the race.

Northern Park BMX Club press release
The Northern Park BMX Club are looking forward to putting
on a fun day of BMX racing on Sunday October 22. The event is
shaping up well with sponsors like Dirt Designs and Rapido Cycles
coming on board and more to be confirmed over the next week or
so. We will have some awesome raffle prizes, but you will have
to be there to win.
The theme of the day is "fun", and the entry fees will
be the cheapest you have seen in Victoria for a long time. This
will make it an ideal place for beginners to try their first open
race meeting and experts to test their skills on Victoria's longest
rhythm section.
One of the classes just added to the event is the 30 & Over
open wheel money class. What does that mean? The guys in the 30
& Over classes will be riding either their 20" or cruisers
against each other. The prize pool will be pay back.
The main event of the day will be the 14 & Over money class,
which is also payback, but the way things are picking up things
may change. Remember guys the more riders there are the more money
that will be up for grabs, so bring your friends.
Mark this date in your calendar: Sunday October 22.
Location: Sycamore Reserve. Mill Park.
The Northern Park BMX Track is one of Victoria's most
central tracks and hosted the 1998 UCI World Cup and Pacific Oceanic
Championships as well as 2 Victorian State Championships.
Entry forms and further details available soon.
Come down on Wednesday nights for gates between 6:00 pm and 7:30 pm. It's only a dollar for all the gates you can get in an hour and a half.
Cycling Australia press release
The UCI (International Cycling Union) today awarded the hosting
of the 2009 BMX World Championships to Australia.
The Championships will be staged in Adelaide, South Australia and the bid received substantial support from SA Events, a division of South Australian Tourism. The 2009 Worlds will be held indoors at the Wayville Showground in late July. Organisers expect around 1800 entrants from an anticipated 35 countries.
BMX Australia National President Graham Arnold says the event will provide a fabulous opportunity for competitors from the southern hemisphere.
“It is not well known that BMX Australia has the second largest competitor membership in the world, and events of this magnitude allow those riders to experience the excitement of world class competition in their own backyard,” said Mr Arnold of the event for which 600 Australians can qualify across a range of divisions and age groups.
“The inclusion of BMX into the Olympics has seen strong growth at all levels”, he said, “Although it (Olympics) will directly impact on only five elite athletes, the fact is the increased profile of BMX will benefit everyone in the BMX community."
Cycling Australia President, Mike Victor, who is in Slazburg, Austria where the UCI Commission meeting was held, says the event will again showcase Australia's expertise in mounting major events.
"Australia has a fabulous track record in organising major sporting events and SA Events has extensive cycling experience," said Mr Victor. "We look forward to welcoming the world's star BMX riders to South Australia for what, I am sure, will be a hugely successful Championships."

If you haven't heard by now Liverpool's track was pretty
much flattened and started again on a fresh new canvas. And so
far it's looking very cool with split straights to include prosections
and very nice looking corners. I think that Liverpool will set
a new standard for tracks in Australia.

Despite having seen Joe Kid on a Sting-Ray a few times previously
I went to see it again in a bicycle film festival on the big screen,
there is nothing like it. If you haven't done it before pay the
few bucks it's a great experience.
If you are in the San Fran area you can see Joe Kid, and more, on the big screen. Check the BICYCLE FILM FEST when it rolls into San Francisco on September 28th-30th.

Eastern Region press release
We are concerned that the short statement yesterday regarding
dumping of the FTC is overly simplistic and maybe misleading.
While the whole story would make a TV drama series, there are
a number of issues which ought to be understood:
The Eastern Region regrets that the FTC may not see its full potential as part of Track Attack. However our first and foremost priority is to provide the best possible bmx racing for the riders.
Watch here for the flyer & entry form this week.
XBR press release
The Eastern Region has dumped the popular Factory Teams'
Challenge from the 2007 DK Track Attack Series for 2007. Gavin

by the Region to film the event for FOXTEL's FUEL channel.

- Dan’s Competition wins National Title, HBR/Prudential
wins TEAM NBL -
The team racing action at the 2006 NBL Grand National was intense and when the dust settled on Sunday, Dan’s Competition came through to take the overall National Team title by a mere point over Grand National Team winners, Felt/SAAB/Extreme Sports. Hyper Bicycles, Answer/Everguard and Bizzaro/Brew/JRACycles.com has strong finishes to round out the top 5. Dan’s Competition won the title for the 2nd year in a row and also captured the NBL World Series Team competition earning them valuable coverage in BMX Today Magazine. A good day for Teri Sonner’s super-talented squad.
In NBL TEAM action, HBR/Prudential may have lost the NBL Grands to All Out Pedal Sports, but they handily captured the overall title – their 2nd in two years as well. Santa Barbara BMX, Rocket, V-Force Racing and CMR Racing rounded out the top 5 in very competitive field of teams. What’s new for 2007? Read on…

BMX Queensland press release
Auction runs for 10 days only - get in fast.
The fundraising for Innisfail BMX Track Continues
Innisfail BMX Club is still without lights and will need another $50,000.00 to get back on track properly. They were under-insured and have not been able to conduct race meets to generate an income. Local girl, Natarsha Williams had contacted her friends in the USA (where she now resides) and Australia to ask for donated and autographed jerseys that could be auctioned to help raise money for the club. Jersey's were given up without question by Bubba Harris, Randy Stumpfhauser, Kyle Bennet, Jason Carnes, Matt Pohlkamp, Jamie Gray, Wade Bootes and Natarsha herself.
BMX QLD Inc. has framed 3 of these jerseys and will auction them on eBay starting today (16.09.06). They measure 87cm X 87cm and are recessed from the frames to ensure they jersey's remain in perfect condition and are not subject to mould or rubbing over time. It is hoped these items will fetch good dollar figures to assist Innisfail BMX Club in their endeavours to continue repairs to their club facilities. After these are sold more of the remaining 5 will be framed and auctioned.
BMX QLD Inc. and Innisfail, Atherton and Cairns BMX Clubs would like to thank everyone involved in helping to raise funds to date and ask that you seriously consider bidding on the below jerseys. They would look fantastic in any BMX Home!!!
Here are the links to the eBay pages:
[Editor: The starting prices are $500AUS and Buy now price is $1000. This is a unique opportunity to help the Innisfail BMX club get back on it's feet. Although the prices may be a little hefty for individuals, some industy types may want to get involved. Imagine, for an example, if Monza would pick up the Stumpy jersey, it would look awesome in their reception area and they can help those that keep them in business and how good would that look for GT in Australia (Hint Hint).]

Over the past 6 or so months I have been messing around with
the backyard track for the next BSX. I've been playing with corners,
lips, extending jumps and so on, but now it's getting back to
good weather, it's time for me to put it all back together so
it's in good shape to ride over the warmer months and all set
for the big day in January.
If you have a few hours to spare on Saturday 23rd September, and you are able to get to Kinglake West, the idea is to work on the track until about 1:30pm then it's play time. I plan to work on it on the Sunday as well, for those not racing on Sunday fell free to come up for a ride and a little fresh country air. If you are interested in helping out email me at webmaster@bmxultra.com to let me know you are coming. Don't forget to bring your bike and a shovel. Oh yeah, if it's raining on the day you may as well stay home and I'll organise another day.
Actually I plan to do some work on the track this weekend, since I can't ride at the moment...so hopefully it will be ready to race again real soon.

Psykopath Industries press release
A very proud congratulations goes out from everyone at Psykopath
Industries to NBL Grands Elite Masters winner Terry Tenette AKA
MR. T. A perfect score was turned in by T sealing the deal for
the win, and finishing the 2006 NBL season on a winning note.
Due to some points discrepancy T was originally awarded 3rd for
the year end title but after some further review he has now been
bumped to #2. To celebrate the great season ender Psykopath is
proud to release its newest product. Terry's signature pedal is
now available at www.psykopath.com and soon to be seen at finer
retailers near you. For all you guys out there that know a little
work in the gym and some pull will beat out any spd style pedal
this one will be a must have. For you collectors as well, Terry
will be autographing a certain limited run of them so contact
psykopath_industries@yahoo.com
to see how you can get your hands on a set.
Also in product news the revised version of the race frame is
now available and boasts an internal headset, double butted tubing,
euro bb, and is available in 2 sizes for this run. Pro 20.5 and
Pro XL 21.25- If you've never used an internal headset before
they are a great step up from some of the stuff out there and
are alot cheaper in comparison to some $100.00 headsets. Our street
riders use them on the newest street frame designed by Nick Valencia
which is also available now and have nothing but good things to
say about them. If these guys can shred serious trails with them
then a stacked moto should be no problem.
Speaking of headsets and trails. San Jose Supercross just wrapped up this past weekend and to say that the track was awesome would be a huge understatement. The UCI has put together another great event and with the success of this 2nd one early talk are in the works and rumors you could call them of an entire SX series are floating around. Their is a definent interest in this version of BMX and with the tv time and more of a spectators kind of event this may be the type of racing that brings back some of the large sponsorships of the past. Being that San Jose is hometown to a few of the team riders and just in the backyard of the Psykopath offices we fielded a team to get out and try their skills against the 145+ rider contingent from around the world. Psykopath's own Damian Lopez looked very well on day 1 of practice but a nagging ankle injury had him spectating on day 2 of the time trials. Kyle "Z Man" Zondervan took his 19-27X skills to the track. After being the first rider in qualifying he was looking to lower his time trial score and did so in run # 2 with a 32second lap. Congrats to Kyle on a good showing and hell be back next year to crack the top 64. Nick Valencia had an up and down weekend. Things started a little rough as the berm jump claimed a headset just an hour or so into practice. (He should have built up the newest frame from Psykopath and it wouldnt have happened) After checking out the headset he opted to ditch the carbon forks for a better set of cro-mo forks. Bad idea, the cromoly set lasted all of about 3 laps and started to get a really nice chopper form going. Finally a set of Odyssey Race forks did the trick and held true for Nick to turn in a 32 second first lap and then better that with a 30 second lap on his second run. That 30 second lap was good enough for 66th overall narrowly missing the mains by 2 spots or .27 seconds. The weekend was great fun for all who attended and most of the riders seemed to enjoy the event and alot of guys are interested in a full season of this style racing. Will it happen? Lets all hope so because progression is always waiting and now may be the time!
And last but never least, Psykopath has added AA/Elite rider Alexis Vergara to its roster. Alexis has relocated back to NOR*CAL and will be training hard as ever and is excited to get back into the national scene. He has already been seen at ABA Reno riding very well, so he definitely has the talent to make some mains and get back into the hunt for a #1. A big Welcome goes out to him and his family and we look for the best in the rest of 06' and upcoming 2007 seasons.
Ontario Cycling press release

by the van load will be converging on Tim DaSilva's BMX Track

EXCITING NEWS – Samantha Cools, World Champion is flying in on Friday afternoon to help out all weekend. She is bringing her bike, so she can ride with some of the kids either at Tim's Track (if all is finished and approved on time) or at Track 2000. What a photo opportunity and a chance to meet one of the coolest, most down to earth BMX racers! Also, Adam Muys, Elite of BC (originally Ontario) is coming to lend a hand on the Saturday – is there a greater sport than BMX? Alberta and BC are coming to help finish Tim's dream.

We have heard that South Australia have decided to leave
their entries open until the Friday before the event for the open
classes. The open classes are the money classes, including A/AA/Women/Masters/etc.
The numbers are up on previous years for the amateur classes and
for AA Pro (currently 12). There are around 15 A Pro riders and
less than a gate of both Masters cruiser and Masters 20 inch.
Don't forget that you will need to qualify for the next National
championships. All you will have to do is race at a state championships,
it doesn't matter what class. We think it's the beginning of a
more structured qualifying procedure that will be eventually put
in place.
Don't miss out on an awesome event.
Check the race calendar for the
entry form with all the details.

THE press release
THE is proud to introduce the arrival of the much anticipated
THE ONE Helmet line. We are offering a full hand laid carbon fiber
version and a composite version of what many have already said
is the best helmet in the cycling industry. Our helmet has already
been to the top of the podium in both BMX and MTB pro events -
Javier Colombo won the UCI Elite Men’s BMX World Championship
and Chris Kovarik has won a UCI Downhill World Cup event, both
wearing the all new THE ONE Carbon helmet.
Without a doubt, the all new line of THE ONE Helmets are not
just a thing of beauty, but one of the most thought out and technically
advanced cycling helmet available today.
We had so many ideas for improvements from the first sample helmets
we made a year ago, we didn’t want to release it to the
public until we tweaked and redesigned the THE ONE helmet to be
the best. This follows THE’s commitment to excellence with
its entire product line. We worked closely with our engineering
team to not only push the envelope in helmet design from the ground
up, but make the ONE helmet just as advanced functionally as it
is in its attention to detail.
THE uses an industry first, an anatomically shaped Dual EPS helmet
liner. The liner is covered with a removable custom printed THE
helmet interior. Massive ventilation comes from 15 vents and 4
air channels, allowing air to come in and help keep you cool and
exiting through the rear of the helmet channel vents.
Other features include
• Strong and lightweight hand laid Carbon fiber
• 2.1 pounds – Medium Carbon Helmet
• 15 vents and 4 vent channels in the EPS Liner
• Stainless Steel D-rings and custom THE Rivets
• Exceeds 2006 CPSC and CE standards
• Composite Helmet features a Soft Touch Finish
• Multiple patents pending
THE ONE Carbon Fiber Helmet

bmxultra.com press release
With the NBL Grands over for another year and winter pretty much
done in Australia it's time for a team update.
Levi Collins (Vic, Australia), our AA Pro, has
been racing MX during the winter and finished 5th at the Victorian
state series in B Grade. Now that things are drying up he's ready
for some BMX racing, you can expect to see Levi getting amongst
the talented AA Pro field during the warmer months. Levi is off
to a good start already with a second at the Bendigo Goldrush
on the weekend.
Jason Bergstrom (TN, USA), 30-34 Expert, finished
up his best NBL season yet ranking #20 over all in the 30-34 expert
class and #25 in the 30-35 Cruiser class. Jason did an amazing
job of juggling shooting photos and racing 2 classes at the Grands
you can check out the results in the photos section of bmxultra.com.
Shane Jenkins (Vic, Australia), 35 & Over
Expert, finish #24 overall in the NBL for 35 & Over Expert
class, one of the toughest amateur classes the NBL has to offer.
After a heavy fall in his third moto at the NBL Grands Jenkins
managed to push through the 1/8 and 1/4 finals, only to be eliminated
in the semi final. Shane would like to thank all those who helped
him through his US trip, especially Scot & Jamie, Bill, Joey,
Eric, Deanna, Ryan, Michelle, Justin, London and the Bizzarro
crew, Tom and the MidWest Felt crew, Jerry and the BMXMania crew,
Jason, Bob O'G and all the rest of the guys in the 35 & Over
class, Danny, Shannon, Tracy and ManageSoft. While at Trumbull
CT, Shane was interviewed by a reporter from the Connecticut Post,
check the article here at http://www.connpost.com/localsports/ci_4176166
The bmxultra.com team riders are supported by One Bicycles, Answer BMX, Supercross BMX, ATi grips, Dirt Designs pads and plates, and Tektro brakes.
Our co-sponsored riders have also been busy during the winter
months:
Adam Carey (Vic, Australia) has been putting
in a few wins and earned enough now to move into the AA Pro ranks.
Scooby Guyers (SA, Australia) has been flying
and is looking forward to knotching up a few wins.
Brett MaliC (SA, Australia) has been keeping
out of the cold, working on his glow in the dark tan and resting
his weary legs through the winter. In between all that he's been
organising the South Australian championships. He's also been
preping up the Wolfman for the 2006-2007 seaon.
Wolfy's struggling to find a helmet big enough, but don't say
anything to him about his large head, he has a complex about it
and the last person that said something lost an ear.
We would also like to thank everyone that has bought a bmxultra.com/One Bicycles jersey and wish you all a warm welcome to the family. The number of jerseys sold lately has been completely unexpected. If you have bought a bmxultra.com/One Bicycles jersey be sure to email us at webmaster@bmxultra.com, send a race photo and we'll include it on the team page. Don't forget to tell us who you are and where you are from.

The Gold Rush was on yesterday, it was a shame that more riders
didn't show. The track was in great condition, it was very challenging
and fun at the same time, no serious injuries. The only crash
I saw was Craig Walczuk when he washed out on a corner with Dave
Cleary breathing down his neck. Seeing Wally crash is quite common.
There was a small wind factor, but the sun was out, so it was
a good day for racing.
The 14 & Over money open main looked like a 2 horse race once Levi and Brock had broken away from the pack. Levi made a couple of mistakes in corners that allowed Brock to pull away to a safe lead Ben finished a close third.
I had a ball, the Bendigo BMX club (and helpers) put on a great race. I'll be back there soon.

It's good to hear that the Gold Rush is back and it seems
as if it will be the perfect way to kick off the peak season,
now that we have pulled through the winter. The way it's shaping
up it should be considered amongst Victoria's premier events this
year.
If you haven't got your entry in I am sure that the Bendigo club
would be kind enough to consider late entries, if you ask them
nicely.
Check out the racing calendar for an entry form with further details.

First of all I must appologise for the road tripping diary. It
was supposed to be an article to show riders foreign to the US
that you can compete on the US NBL national circuit and get a
ranking, while pointing out all the costs along the way. Well
since everything was so rushed I kind of got a little side tracked
and it went off on a tangent. What I will do is finish up the
diary now and go back and summarise the costs involved a little
later.
I spent my last free day in the US checking out Knoxville TN, where Jason Bergstrom lives, Jason and his girlfriend Sara took me around. It was too wet to ride and my knees were still very sore from my crash, so it's probably just as well. The most outstanding feature of Knoxville is the University of Tenneessee's football stadium which holds 120,000 spectators, and that's just a collage football team. That night I went to Jason's home and packed everything.
The following morning I was at the Knoxville airport reshuffling my luggage to try and get my bags under 50 pouns each, then my deceptive plan of hiding the bike unravelled. Instead of paying $15US for excess luggage I slipped up and it cost me $80US instead. Someone saw the bike and said "is that a bike" I was tired and not thinking so said "yes"...Doh! (Big forehead slap). For the first time in about 4 weeks I was busted, and it cost me. Oh well I was heading home, and knew that I was bound to get caught out sooner or later. 1 and 1/4 hours later I was in Washington DC. You could see the Washington Monument from the terminal, which is about all I got to see of Washington. Then I caught my connecting flight to Boston which was about another hour. Oh the round trip to Knoxville from Boston cost about $250US plus the additional luggage costs. Once in Boston I had to wait an hour before I could check in again. Again I was busted for luggage, this time it was $100US and that was for an oversized bag. I dont know how many people have told me to use a hockey gear bag and strip the bike down, including the back wheel. I think that's what I will do next time. The bags are ligher and smaller for starters, and then there's the point that you only pay extra for bikes, no other sporting equipment. 3 hours later and I was heading to LAX, it's a 5ish hour flight. Once in LA I had to get my boarding pass for the 14 hour flight home to Melbourne, and then straight through to the gate lounge. I noticed some guys that looked like they were from a rock band, and thought they might have been from Danzig that were going to be playing in Melbourne on Friday, but I couldn't see Glenn Danzig and it was 13 years ago that I last saw them.
Once we landed in Melbourne I was collecting my bags and started talking to one of the guys from the band, a couple of minutes later he told me to write my name down and he'll put it on the door for me. I had organised for my mum to pick me up from the airport, we dropped off all my gear at home and headed out so I could catch up with my family for the day.
I hadn't noticed that Shannon Rademaker had been working on the backyard track while I was away. He's landed a job right around the corner, so things should really start happening now that we are starting to pull through winter here.
I checked out the racing schedule coming up. I think I will change a few things around, it looks like I will be going to Bendigo this weekend, then to the Kuwahara Classic at Bellarine, then the SA Titles, after that I only plan to race the Victorian State titles, nothing else seems too exciting to me right now, and my knees are still killing me after sitting still on planes for about 20 hours. If you are at any of those meetings and after the new bmxultra.com/ATi stickers be sure to come up and ask.
Anyway that's about it; 2 concerts, 3 race meetings, meetings with Answer, Supercross and the OM of BMX himself Scot Breitahupt, a whole lotta work, and all in 4 weeks. I would like to thank everyone who helped me out through the trip and everyone that took time to have a chat, I enjoyed every minute of it. I know I said this is a once in a life time opportunity, but I know I could improve on #24 in the 35 & Over X, I will be back for more, one day.
More Grands photos coming soon.
NBL Press release
8 of 10 North American UCI Races to be held in U.S., exclusively
at NBL Elite Series races.
Colorado Springs, Colo. (September 5, 2006)—USA Cycling
confirmed today revisions and finalized venues to the previously
announced 2006-07 UCI BMX Continental Calendar. The UCI has awarded
eight of the 10 North American-based events to the United States.
The calendar opens November 4, 2006 with the NBL Silver State
National in Las Vegas, Nev. followed by the NBL Christmas Classic
in Columbus, Ohio December 28.
The 2007 calendar year continues with two separate events in one
weekend at the NBL Lake Mead National in Boulder City, Nev. February
24-25. After a month off, the series resumes on consecutive weekends
with the NBL Gator National in Sarasota, Fla. March 31 and the
NBL Easter Classic in Orlando, Fla. April 7. The NBL Freedom National
in Woodbridge, Va. is scheduled for April 28 before the final
U.S. stop in Prunedale, Calif. for the NBL Golden State National
May 19.
The events included on the 2006-07 UCI BMX Continental Calendar
carry special significance as points earned at these races play
an important role in both an individual’s overall UCI ranking
and the United States’ ranking as a nation which determines
the number of start positions at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
All UCI Continental Calendar events are given a ‘category
3’ status by the international governing body which gives
American athletes a major opportunity to secure UCI points. Only
UCI World Championships and BMX Supercross World Cup events offer
more points as category 1 and 2 events respectively.
All Junior and Elite competitors must have a USA Cycling BMX international
license to compete in these UCI events.
“With BMX now an Olympic Sport, the UCI Continental Calendar
provides a significant opportunity for both the United States
and American athletes,” commented Steve Johnson, USA Cycling
chief executive officer. “Success at these events are critical
in securing the maximum number of start positions for the United
States in Beijing and establishing our top candidates for the
Olympic Team.”

BMXAustralia press release
Bicycle Motocross Australia (BMXA), Cycling Australia (CA) and
Mountainbike Australia (MTBA) today jointly launched an appeal
for injured athlete Renee Junga.
The 20 year old, who won a Silver Medal at last year's World BMX Championships in France and was the 2005 Australian Female BMX Cyclist of the Year, crashed on August 22nd while training on the 4X (Four-Cross) course in preparation for the World Mountain Bike Championships in Rotorua, NZ. Renee broke the C1 and C2 bones in her neck and suffered spinal trauma at the T6 vertebrae. She also suffered two broken ribs and a fractured sternum. Surgeons operated to fuse together the bones in her neck and to insert a surgical rod and screws to stabilise her spine. Renee remains in Auckland City Hospital recovering from the surgery but is expected to fly back to Brisbane later this month where she will initially be admitted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
"The purpose of the appeal is to raise funds to assist Renee with the challenges she faces in the future," said Cycling Australia CEO, Graham Fredericks. "A number of fund-raising efforts have already commenced in Australia and New Zealand and this support is greatly appreciated by Renee and her family."
"Renee is a very strong and determined young woman and we all wish her well with her rehabilitation," said BMXA Australia President, Graham Arnold.
Renee yesterday was visited by former motorcycle Motocross racer Niki Urwin who suffered spinal injuries in a racing accident in Horsham, Victoria several years ago. Urwin, who is paralysed from the chest down, is the coach of New Zealand mountain bike cyclist Vanessa Quin.
"It was good to speak to someone who has actually been through what I am going through," said Renee. "He told me about what I can expect and shared some of his experiences with me."
Today Renee achieved a milestone when she sat upright for the first time.
"I got onto the edge of the bed, feet on the ground and bent at 90 degrees," said Renee. "It only lasted for about five minutes because I got a bit dizzy but the physios were pretty happy with that."
"They are going to set me up with a temporary wheelchair later this week."
Renee has been fitted with a brace, neck to waist, which she must wear for around twelve weeks but says the pain from her surgery is beginning to ease.
"Today I also saw the dentist about my left molar which I cracked pretty badly in the crash," she said. "They'll probably try and put a temporary cap on it next week but there's not a lot more they can do until the brace comes off because it restricts my neck movement."

UCI press release
UCI is pleased to announce the permanent career numbers for Elite
Men and Elite Women. Please visit our website on; http://www.uci.ch/modello2.asp?1stlevelid=C&level1=5&level2=0&idnews=4357
to view current list of numbers. These numbers must be used at
all international BMX events worldwide.
Starting with the season 2006-2007 (from 1 August 2006), the UCI is introducing a permanent number system for Elite Men & Elite Women. With this system, riders can choose a “career number”, which they have the exclusive right to use for their entire Elite class career. This will give riders a possibility to market themselves and to give media and spectators an easy way to identify riders.
The UCI permanent number system is solely for the Elite Men & Elite Women class, where any rider with an international license rider can choose a permanent career number from 10 to 999. Number 1 – 8 will be reserved and will be assigned to the top 8 finishers in the previous BMX World Championship, and can be used for the upcoming season.
A chosen number will be exclusive for the rider, and cannot be used by any other elite class (including Junior and Cruiser classes). A chosen number will remain as long as the rider receives UCI points during the season, although the number will be assigned to the rider for 2 additional years (without points) before becoming available again.

In Elite men Barry Nobles, who some Aussies might remember
from winning the 17 & Over mens class at the 2003 Worlds in
Perth, he came from behind in the last couple of straights in
a star studded field that included the likes of Becerine, Bennett,
Australia's own Michael Robinson, and Pohlkamp (I can't remember
the last name in the field) to pass Randy Stumpfhauser and just
nearly caused the upset of the day when he was narrowly beaten
to the finish line and had to settle for second. Donny Robinson
is now $10,000 richer and the new NBL Elite Mens champion with
Kyle Bennett taking second and Randy Stumpfhauser taking third.
Gabriela Diaz took the win in the Elite Women's final while Kim
Hyashi had to settle for third, but took the win overall. Having
won her fourth NBL elite title.
In the A Pro, Phirebird's Glenn Codega, from Australia, put in
a gutsy effort sitting in 3rd place going through the pro section
to pull up along side the two riders fighting it out for the top
spot and taking the win on the line.
BMX legend, Terry Tennet, won the Elite Masters main, but Kyomi
Waller took out the overall title. Both of whom run flat pedals.
bmxultra.com's US rider didn't make his mains but finished in #20 for 30-34 Expert and #25 for 30-34 Cruiser. Despite a sore knee I managed to slip through my 1/8 and 1/4 finals, making it to the semi but that is as far as it went for me, things may have been different had I not hurt myself, but that's BMX. I finished #24 in the 35 & Over Expert class, which was very close to my goal of top 20, actually I was only 6 points out. If I had managed to stay on my bike in my last moto I would have achieved all of what I had set out to do (make top 20 over all and make the semis at the Grands).
I remember the commentators saying that Jeff Upshaw took the age, cruiser and open triple at the Grands. Bob O'Gorman took the Age and Cruiser double, next time you see him racing NBL it will probably be as a Vet Pro. Justin Posey finished up with 2 number 1's despite a crash in the main on his cruiser. Deanna crashed in her semi which put her out of the main and out of the running for the #1. Jesse Guilbault didn't make his mains, but did well to make the semis.
We'll provide you with more details and photos a little later.

Well it was a big day of motos today, it started at 9am and finished
around 6 pm. The only motos now are the third round of the Elite
Open class, then all the qualifiers starting at 1/32 finals (there
are some huge classes).
Both Bubba Harris and Mike Day had gone to the ABA race, apparently they have some good money up and, naturally, it was going to be a good race to grab some points while most of the other riders were at the NBL Grands, but aside from that there was a good number of Elite Men. The Aussie pros did well. Michael Robinson and Jamie Gray were both right up there, so was Daniel Johnstone, once he got a bad first race out of the way. He also crashed in the last corner making a move for third in his last moto for Elite Men, he looks highly competitive. Barry Nobles was impressive along with Stumpy, Pohlkamp, and Columbo. It will be interesting to see who takes the win and the overall title tomorrow.
As far as the bmxultra.com riders go Jason Bergstrom didn't make it out to the motos, he had a very tough gate on both bikes. But should still be in good standing overall though, sitting around #20 in 30-34 Expert Men's class. I had a 2-2-4 in the motos, I crashed in the last one on the last jump in the last straight just a few yards short of the finish line. It was a race where the lead changed a few times, but entering the last corner me and a couple of others were heading in 3 wide, so I high lowed, and pulled up next to the guy in front. I think I was focusing more on trying to take the win and forgot all about the last couple of jumps. After leaving a big whole in the ground where my knees and head buried themselves, I got up slowly and felt weak and numb in the knees so I dragged my bike across the finish line and checked myself out. There was nothing too serious, just lots of bruising and lumps...oh and it only hurts when I twist it. What was cool was one of the guys from Puerto Rico, I think his name is Gregorio Rivera Serrano, came over to check that I was ok and helped me to my feet. He was one of the guys in the battle for the first. It's funny to think, two guys both foreign to the US, fighting it out on the track for a US national ranking, sharing the same passion for BMX. He had nothing to do with my fall but yet he still managed to take time to check that I was ok. In a very manly sporty style hand shake/embrace he said "good race", the thing was it was a great race, and I told him so. It's the kind of race I have been looking for in a long time, close, and only when a rider crossed the line would you know who would take the win, it's something that reminded me of what BMX is all about. Actually the 35 & Over expert class is a big class and full of very skilled and powerful riders. It has been a lot tougher than I ever expected, and at the end of the day those guys also have a great deal of respect for each other both on and off the track.
The friends I have made along this road trip have been doing well. Deanna clean sweeped her motos and was jumping stuff I hadn't bothered with. Ryan, Deanna's son, qualified for his semi. Justin Posey also won everything I saw him in. Tom Erickson from MidWest Felt was pulling 3rds in the cruiser. The Bizzarro boys were ripping up the track too, I think London Willmot finished up with a 1-2-2, Shaun DePrete got a 2-1-1 and Dave Bedford started with a crash, I think he finished with all 3's. Jesse Guilbault, that we met at the Supercross nationals back in September, was doing ok, he won the first moto then got 2 4ths in his other 2 motos for class.
I also bumped into Sean Dwight, Australian High Performance Squad coach. We had a good chat about the new direction that BMX seems to be heading in Australia, we spoke about doing an interview for the site, so look out for that, there will be some interesting information there. One thing I did find out was that anyone thinking of making a contribution to help Renee Junga, Sean tells us she's fully covered by insurance and that her family shouldn't be out of pocket.
We have a bunch of photos for you but it's time to sleep. Expect to see them over the next week some time.

It was an early start to a long day of practice sessions
on the eve of the NBL Grand Nationals in Louisville KY, but it
was well worth it, the classes had been broken down into groups
and the track time was shared in half hour time slots, making
it much easier to get laps in. It's not surprising that one of
the biggest BMX races in the world would also have a big day of
practice.
Even more riders appeared today. Actually before registrations had closed Bob Tadesco was seen walking around with a big smile on his face, proudly announcing that the number of entries had already passed that of last year. Jason Richardson was back on a bike, and it was a new look Haro. The Haro's of the past haven't had such a hot paint job, well not in my opinion anyway, but this one looks super cool, I hope to get some more information about it over the weekend. For now check out this picture (right).
Matt Pohlkamp, Javi Columbo were amongst the large number of riders to hit the track for the first time. Sitting under the BMXMania tent we bumped into Daniel Johnstone and his girl friend, Daniel is another super fast and highly skilled Aussie pro rider. He was heading to the US for the UCI Supercross event in San Jose next weekend and decided to add the Grands to his tour at the last minute. We was looking very comfortable after just a couple of laps.
