Not to be confused with the BSX, BMXVictoria's annual fundraising
event for the Royal Children's Hospital is on again.
Mark your calendars: Saturday the 10th of February at the Warrnambool BMX track
Entry form in the bmxultra.com race calendar.

Here are the full results from the 2007 DK Track Attack series,
thanks to the Eastern Region.
by bmxultra.com
Despite a set back with prize money the Track Attack series
continues to grow with record levels of riders across the classes.
Instead of in depth reports on each of the events we'll cut to
the chase and pick out some highlights.
Round 1: Park Orchards
The Park Orchards track changes had caused quite a stir on the
bmxultra.com forum. Will the pro section be ridable? Will the
corners be too wide open? Will there be enough spectator area?
These questions were answered at the series opener. Except that
the pro section wasn't yet ready. The corners were wide open and
it wasn't unusual to see four riders powering through the first
corner side by side. The second corner was similar but by that
stage riders were pretty well sorted into single file. And the
spectator area...well that didn't seem to be too much of a problem.
Bubba Harris made his only Victorian appearance on the race track
at the Park Orchards round. Struggling with the gate Bubba pulled
a second, first and a crash in the first corner (eighth) in the
motos. A comfortable third in the semi and Bubba was through to
the main. And not an easy main by any means. When the gate dropped
Bubba was out in lane eight. The bunch get over the first jump
cleanly except Billy Jolliffe seemed to bounce off Michael Fenwick
and in a flat spin over the roller. Madill and Johnstone jump
to the lead with the inside advantage, Tiger Robinson all over
them followed by Kirkham and Bubba trying to make a move down
the second straight, he pulls up next to Kirkham in fourth but
over jumps everything and seems to go backwards. Third straight
and Johnstone pulls up next to Madill but is on the outside for
the last corner. Callan and Harris charge down the third straight
o make up ground. Callan goes into the corner too hot and too
low and washes out, Bubba gets tangled up in the mess. Madill
hangs on to the win. Johnstone second, Tiger in third, Kirkham
fourth then Fenwick, Harris, Jolliffe and Callan.
A big crash in the super girls final when Melissa Mankowski ran
into a little trouble heading to the double at the end of the
first straight. Tanya Bailey and Nicole Callisto got caught up
and also went down. All three had to be helped. Nicole was the
worst off, having to be carried off the track. It looked like
she may have reinjured her knee that put her off the bike for
a while, that too was caused by a fall in the first round of Track
Attack last year. Nicole was back on her bike later in the series
however.
Round 2: Knox
Jared Graves made his first appearance in Victoria when the UCI/Probikx
series came to Melbourne, the Knox BMX track more specifically.
There was quite a stir since Graves had beaten Bubba Harris and
a talented all star field in Queensland the week prior. Watching
Graves in the UCI elite men's final against many of Australia's
finest, his slingshot gate style is enough to give him the lead
and keep the others at his heals. Madill looked like the only
rider who could match his speed, never falling more than a bike
length behind. But to beat him he'll have to do it from the gate.
Luke has come along way since his crash last year that put him
out of the sport for 6 months or so. I am sure with the likes
of Graves stepping it up a notch Madill and the High Performance
squad will be up for the challenge. Oh and look out for Khalen
Young too, the guys is a real power house now.
Another highlight, the girls are jumping the Knox doubles now.
I guess with the Olympics coming up, they are all going all out,
we are going to see some fantastic development in the racing the
way things are going around here.
Round 3: Eastfield
Johnstone, Madill and Gray crash in a semi together, a couple
of new faces make it to the mains. Including Takuro Nishioka,
Luke Pretlove Michael Chasteauneuf and Josh Webb. Khalen Young
won from start to finish with Fenwick in for second and Jolliffe
in for the third. It was about this time that Steven Wong from
Hong Kong became a threat finding his feet in the tough AA pro
field.
Round 6: South Eastern
A couple of the AA Pros had headed to Canberra for the Mountain
Bike Nationals including Caroline Buchanan and Luke Madill who
won their respective 4X classes. Australian High Performance Team
coach Sean Dwight pulled the bike out and was looking very strong.
Strong enough in fact to make the main and finish a respectable
sixth place. Michael Robinson took that win with Khalen Young
in second, Daniel Johnstone was getting amongst it, but a nudge
from Jamie Gray and Johnstone ended up checking out the backside
of the last corner.
All in all it was a great week of racing. I hope that it continues to grow and attract more international riders in the future. Thanks to organisers, officials and riders who supported the event.

Cristian Becerine wins 3 out of 4 Elite Pro main events in
Paradise!
Round 3 of the 2007 NBL Pro series was held this past weekend, January 27-28, in Barceloneta, Puerto Rico. For the 2nd time, the city of Barceloneta has put on one great NBL full bore national event with a city wide race promotion and organizing a huge event not only for BMX racers, but also for Mountain Biking and road racing. The event stared off as an event that was known as the RM59 tropical challenge. Pro Racer Robbie Miranda, who the event is named after, has helped promote BMX racing in Puerto Rico and this race is a tribute to his efforts and his Puerto Rican background. The Pros were excited to attend such an event as it is know for its great hospitality, an excellent track, and the warm weather. Cristian Becerine was the lone Double A Marketing Pro to make the trip down, but he was more than enough, as Cristian was the top Pro at the event.
On arrival, the newly renovated track was liked by all the Pros and Cristian seemed to really like the changes. It was very apparent as on Saturday, Cristian was unstoppable in the main events, as he won both the Elite Pro Class and the Elite Pro Open class. On Sunday, Cristian once again was the winner in Elite Open and this time has to settle for a 2nd in Elite Pro. Cristian gave the Free Agent World Team fans some great results and looks forward to doing it again this weekend at the ABA national in Guthrie, Oklahoma.

Sirius Bicycles press release
Sirius Bicycles is pleased to introduce a new co-sponsorship program
intended to support BMX racing teams Downunder.
I’ve long held the belief that a team environment is one of nurturing & is conducive to teaching young people values that they’ll ultimately carry into adulthood. Young people benefit from being a part of a team as in addition to their immediate family, a team can provide a young athlete with a large support group of like-minded individuals all working towards a common goal sharing the same/similar experiences along the way.
Of course not everyone gets to race as part of a team. If however by offering assistance to race teams in the form of product support, Sirius Bicycles can encourage more people to either start up a BMX race team, or to join one, then the aim of this program will have been satisfied.
Sirius Bicycles can supply teams with frames, parts, accessories, & race wear & any would-be team owners/managers can forward their proposal in the first instance by email to info@siriusbicycles.com.

All of our interviews in the past have been typed out for
you to read at your own leisure. We thought we'd have a go at
a video interview with Bubba Harris, the only thing was I wasn't
thinking about the many readers with dial up. I am still looking
for a solution for you guys and it may be that I still have to
transcribe the video interview.
If you have broadband internet, basically anything faster than dial-up this should work just fine. It's a streaming windows media file.

With lots of fun raising activity including all the merchandise sales, auctions and raffles and so on have generated close to $6000 which should round up nicely when we have sold the remaining t-shirts.
The Karlten.com Vs Luke Madill Challenge
One of the fund raising ideas for BSX2007 was match racing.
You pay a $50 donation and select 2 riders to go head to head.
Naturally there's a tax receipt for donations over $2, so everyone
wins. Just when we thought everyone had forgotten about it and
were about to start with presentation a challenge was set down.
Eight year old Karlten Wolsey (2004 world champion) and Luke Madill
lined up on the gate together to put on a show for the crowd.
When the gate dropped Karlten and Luke set out to have a fun ride.
Karlten styled it up and wowed the crowd while Madill pumped the
track to keep the racing close. In the end the crowd and the Royal
Children's Hospital were the real winners.
Thank you to everyone who supported the event and we hope for better weather next year and a whole lot more fun.

New Australian sensation, Caroline Buchanan, just secured the
Mountainbike Bike 4x Australian National Championships last week,
only then to hop back on her BMX and take another win at the UCI
event in Melbourne this past weekend. Caroline is not only racing
BMX for Free Agent, but also competing for KHS in 4x and Downhill
and aims to race at both the BMX and Mountainbike Worlds later
this summer. Can she medal in all three disciplines, something
no one has ever done in the same year? Stay tuned.
Our other Free Agent World Team rider from Australia, Nicole Callisto
the 05 Junior World Champion, suffered a bad crash at the same
event and was unable to carry on racing the rest of the weekend.
We hope she makes a speedy recovery.
Free Agent World Team rider, Kelvin Batey from England, starts
off his Free Agent and European quest for the Olympics with a
strong 5th place at the 1st round of the European Championships
indoor series in Zwolle Holland. Kelvin, who is also part of the
British National Team, says he loves his new Free Agent Limo and
even though he is still in the early stages of his winter training,
a 5th place against some of Europe's best means he's on his way
to a good year and a great start towards his main goal, the 08
Olympics. Kelvin will be out in the States for more training and
racing in the month of March.
Ecuador's new signing on the Free Agent World Team, Fausto Endara,
is on a winning streak at the moment. After doubling both days
in Argentina last week at the UCI South American Championship
round, Fausto went on to double this past weekend in Vina del
Mar Chile, gaining maximuim points yet again. Remember this name,
a future star for sure.
Colombian Andres Jimenez another new signing continues his great
consist ant form in Vina del Mar Chile with a solid 4th place
in Elite and some valuable UCI points.
Free Agent's World Team sponsors include Free Agent, KHS, Kenda
USA, Sun-Ringle, ODI Grips, Shimano, Thompson, Cyto Sport and
THE-Industries.

Before I get started with the report I would love to thank
all those who supported the event and the Royal Children's hospital,
especially our partners and volunteers who have helped in so many
ways, that without them the event just wouldn't be possible. Thanks
to each and every spectator, we hope you had a great time, including
those on the webcam. Also the media including Jane Ollerenshaw
from Leader Newspaper, Warwick Wheeler from BMXPress and Gavin
D from XBR. And most of all the riders for putting on a fantastic
show. A special thanks to Andrew Nolan, the Eastern Region, and
BMX Australia for making it possible for the Australian High Performance
team to attend.
With heavy rainfalls on the eve of BSX2007 and thick misty fog through the morning there was some doubt that the event would go ahead early in the piece. The weather meant smaller attendances by riders and spectators, but it was interesting to see those who were really keen arriving early. We had to put the start of the practice session on hold because when the clay surface is wet, it's much like riding on ice. But that didn't seem to affect the atmosphere, helping to become an even more social event. As a Pheasant Creek local, and having kept an eye on the weather regularly in the lead up to the event, I was confident that things would work out. We just had to wait for some sun to help dry things up, it eventually happened, and luckily I had a nice little pile of sand that was thrown over the track which allowed us to get riders out on the track earlier than what would have normally been possible. Even with the sand things were a little boggy at first so we eased the riders onto the track until we were confident that everything was safe.
After a 3 hour delay practice was in full swing. Many of Australia's super stars were trying to work out the best lines through the tight and technical track. As the track continued to dry the riders were getting faster and faster. Some of the big names in Australian BMX were there including BSX2006 winner Luke Madill, Tiger Robinson, Daniel Johnstone, Jamie Gray, Michael Vockenson who finished 4th at BSX2006, Khalen Young and it was Levi Collins who lead the Victorian charge that included Josh Callan, Scott Lacey, Jonathan Hoare, Shannon Rademaker and others. Tanya Bailey and Ziggy Callan who didn't have enough for a class of their own also joined the men's class. What was most interesting to me was the number of dirt jumpers who showed. Sure there were only 3 or 4 of them but when one of them was Steve McCann who spends most of the year in the US competing in dirt jumping and street comps. Steve was riding the track comfortably during the practice session but decided not to compete, it was fun having him there though. Another rider who was in the practice session but didn't race was Khalen Young who has been making a big impact on his return to racing. Billy Jolliffe who placed 2nd at BSX2006 was in attendance but chose to spectate this time around.
Here's how the time trials went down. Oh and we sent Madison Denholm off first to help test the timers out. He set a cracking time of 23.32, not bad for a 13 year old.

ABABMX press release
Gilbert, Arizona—The American Bicycle Association (ABA)
has named American Suzuki Motor Corporation the official Motorcycle
and ATV of the 2007 ABA BMX (Bicycle Motocross) racing series.
The 2007 ABA BMX Race Series consists of 27 National events and
15 Pro Series events throughout North America.
Suzuki Motorcycles and ATVs are a major sponsor of the 2007 ABA event schedule and will be fully integrated into the BMX events nationwide. The Suzuki partnership includes motorcycles and ATV’s being awarded to Professional Racers, Top Amateurs and will be used exclusively by the ABA for track building and maintenance.
“Suzuki is an exciting new sponsor for the ABA and our National Event Series in 2007, we are very proud that Suzuki has chosen to promote its products with ABA and the sport of BMX.”, said Shannon Gillette, Marketing Director for the ABA. The sport of BMX is growing and building a great deal of interest from corporations as it prepares for a worldwide coming-out party of sorts with inclusion at the 2008 Summer Olympics.
“BMX is an energized action sport; however, unlike other action sports, BMX attracts the youth and their parents. Suzuki recognized that the ABA offers access to this influential market and the decision-making parents.” says Clayton John, ABA President.
Suzuki will have a large and notable presence at every ABA National event and has scheduled display advertising as part of its sponsorship in ABA’s American BMXer publication. The ABA will use Suzuki ATV’s exclusively when constructing and grooming the individual race facilities. Suzuki will award motorcycles and ATV’s to the 2007 National Champions and various Pro racers ensuring that Suzuki has a dominant position in the growing sport of BMX.
ABA (American Bicycle Association), formed in 1977 and headquartered in Chandler, Arizona, is “The Sanctioning Body of BMX”©. The ABA organizes BMX racing for boys, girls and adults, nationwide and Canada. BMXAustralia press release
An official decision by the UCI has stopped National Series
leader, Wade Bootes (Gold Coast) from wearing his QAS (Queensland
Institute of Sport) skinsuit in the BMX round at Knox today. The
32 year old won the previous UCI Round on the Gold Coast wearing
the controversial suit known now as the “Booty Suit”.
Today Bootes missed out on getting into the final however it allowed
Jared Graves (Toowoomba) the opportunity to win. Graves led into
the first corner.
“I felt quick down all the straights,” said Graves. “I’ve got a lot of confidence after betting Bubba Harris (2005 BMX World Champ from USA) a few weeks ago.”
Second was Luke Madill (Penrith,SYD) the favourite to win after placing first in his semi-final. Khalen Young (Campbelltown) passed New Zealander Marc Willers on the final straight to take third. Bootes still maintains the National Probikx Series lead by 38 points with Madill second and Michael “Tiger” Robinson (GreenbankQLD) in third overall. In the UCI ranking New Zealander, Matthew Cameron leads with Robinson the top Australian and Billy Jolliffe (Tamworth) in second and third respectively.
UCI Series leader, Sarah Walker from New Zealand was too strong for Australians Tanya Bailey and Melissa Mankowski. The 19 year old Walker lead from start and Bailey could not pass. Mankowski suffered a sprained foot from the elite women’s crash yesterday but rode herself into third place to gain precious international points. Walker leads the UCI ranking now and Bailey takes over the lead in the National Probikx Series. Nicole Callisto (Perth) was leading but an injured knee yesterday saw her sidelined.
There is concern in the High Performance Training squad for Callisto who had a case of ‘deja-vu’ when she badly injured the same knee on the same day last year. The injury required major knee reconstruction and saw her miss the entire 2006 season.
Official Comment on the Skin Suit
Ray Stanley, UCI BMX Commissaire Training Co-ordinator
from Australia.
“Since Wade Bootes wore the skinsuit there has been a lot
of discussion. The ‘Booty Suit’ has generated a great
deal of debate with BMX technical commission with a view to clarify
what is now seen to be the other cycling disciplines on a new
emerging Olympic sport. In the rule book it basically deals with
the rider jersey and pants in terms of specifying the types of
material and the length of sleeves and the fit at the ankles.
It does not specify that it can not be a one piece construction.”
The rule book states that the pants must be of a tear-resistant material and be tight fitting at the ankles. The jersey just needed to have a long sleeve to the wrist. There has been discussion about whether or not they should introduce a loose fitting jersey as a means of combating the skin tight cycling style outfit.
Now the UCI will have to specify what limits are required if such a term as loose-fitting was to be applied to the description.

The track is a little wet, but the show must go on.
We may have to delay the start. But all it will mean will be a delayed start, shortened practice and we'll do our best to still finish at about the same time.
It's gunna be an awesome day. Trust me. I have been to enough "nearly" rained out NBL races to know this thing has to happen. But I will not put riders at risk. When the track is set to go racing will start.
Have fun guys.
Webcam should start around 9am.

Bubba and Gork of Redline US were there to accept the awards.
BMX Australia press release
Australian rider Luke Madill’s confidence in his form before
Olympic selection was given a boost today when he beat one of
America’s top riders, Bubba Harris. Madill won the first
round of the Track Attack series at Park Orchards in Melbourne's
eastern suburbs today while the 2005 World Champion, Harris placed
sixth. Madill was challenged mid-race by young Daniel Johnstone
but the experience of Madill shone through.
Three of Australia’s top ranked women crashed in their final race. Melissa Mankowski, Nicole Callisto and Tanya Bailey fell on the first straight when jostling for first position into the corner. Callisto, the 2005 World Junior Champion crashed in the first round of Track Attack last year injuring the same knee. Last year’s crash resulted in major knee reconstruction and Callisto has only recently returned to racing. Callisto had to be carried off for medical attention to her left knee. Bailey and Mankowski were able to walk away. Callisto’s Australian coach, Sean Dwight, is still concerned. “We’re just putting ice on at present. At this stage it’s uncertain if she will race tomorrow.” The UCI and National Probikx Series at Knox on Sunday offers valuable international points for riders wishing to qualify for the Beijing Olympics. Callisto currently leads the National Probikx Series and Wade Bootes leads the men's series.
Elite racing starts at 1.45pm until 4pm at Knox BMX track. Officials have declared that Sunday's UCI racing program will go ahead even if rain continues.

Bubba, Gork and Redline
Adam
Robb from TotalBMX brought Redline's Bubba Harris and Gork to
the bmxultra.com compound for an interview. Naturally Bubba brought
his bike and was able to spend some time riding the track that's
pretty much ready for Monday's BSX. Oh and the video interview
will be available to view some time next week.
We asked Bubba to cut a hot lap for us to see if he could set a time for Monday's competitors to chase, by the time he got to the timed run he was a little tired but still managed a time of 21.11. He was obviously not happy with it and in his own words expects the time to be smashed. During the session Bubba was able to get around the track jumping everything without pedaling once and seemed to have a ball.
When it as all over we were able to have a few things autographed for auction, including a special BSX number plate, a Dirt number plate, BSX posters and a spare 2007 ABA BMX calendar I had laying around. As Gork, Bubba and Adam were leaving they had presented us with a signed Bubba Harris jersey, number plate and down unda tour poster. That said there's now a whole lot more goodies for you all to bid on. Monday is going to be huge.

About BSX
BSX is short for Bicycle Supercross. We pair up some
of Australia's best pro BMXers on a 2 man track, much like Stumpy's
DC sprint trails, in a one on one elimination style race until
we find a winner. It's a BMX event like none other in the country.
The riders are challenged on a short technical track while having
a whole lot of fun and at the same time putting on a show for
the spectators. The event created an atmosphere that's too hard
to put into words and must be experienced. Last year Luke Madill
took the win, can he come back from spinal injuries and take it
again?
This year the event will be held at Kinglake West, Victoria (just an hour north of Melbourne) on Monday January 22. It's the day after the UCI Pacific Oceania round at Knox (during the Track Attack series).

Since Bubba Harris is primarily in Australia for the XBR
Super Clinic we thought we would ask Gavin D from XBR how the
first day of the Super Clinic went. This is what he had to say,
"It was a good day. Oh and Bubba was the first person to
jump the Park Orchard Pro Section. The section will not be ready
for Track Attack - but it was nice to see them being used nonetheless."

J&C Racing press release
The Christmas Classic is one of the NBL largest races of the year.
I am proud to announce that the J&C Cycletherapy Factory/National
team placed 5th both days!
On day 1, the team saw 3 first place finishes, the first one from Megan Yuchasz who dominated the 9 girl’s class. The other two 1st place finishes came from co-sponsored Supercross rider, Deanna Jamieson on both 20” and cruiser. Deanna rode a 20” Supercross EVO I.S. for her first time back on a 20” bike in 18 years. She showed the rest of the 17 and over girl’s class what she’s made of! She went perfect against girls half her age! In the same class was Ashleigh Ybarra, who finished a very respectable 5th both days. Dennis ”Yogi” Ybarra found a last straight power surge and placed 2nd on day one and 3rd on day two. Frances Maycroft bumped up to the Junior Women’s class and finished a nice solid 4th both days, adding new members to the anti-Fran club. Katie Maycroft and Tom Bright both took home 6th place trophies.
Day 2 once again found Megan and Deanna on their way to more perfects. Things were looking good for Deanna on her 20” until the last corner of the main event, when she couldn’t clip back in, she finished 6th. Katie came back on day 2 for another 6th in the ever hard 13 girls class.
The J & C Racing team NBL had a great showing with the Lee bros. all making mains. Eric Green raced hard with 5th and 6th place finishes. Paige McDonald ran a pair of threes and Madison Bright chased Megan Yuchasz to 2nd place finishes all week long.
As always, a huge thanks to all of our sponsors: Cycletherapy Bike Shop, Supercross, Fly, S & M, Delta Contracting, Takata, Hobo Products, Profile, and Sun Ringle’. If you would like to be on our list of sponsors, feel free to call me at 248-763-5428

BSX2007 has currently raised $1500 for the Royal Children's Hospital
Foundation.
Battery
Battery Energy Drink is the naming rights partner of
BSX2007 supplying the official drink for the event as well as
a Fender Squire Strat electric guitar and since Battery is distributed
by Fosters Group 3 cartons of each of Carlton Draft, Corona and
Crown which will be all auctioned off on the day. The beer will
only be available for pick up after the BSX auctions have finished
and can only be bidded on by adults at the age of 18 or above.
One
of our volunteers, Adam Phillips, the main video camera operator
from last year is also involved in the music industry, when he
saw the guitar he thought it would be a great idea to have it
signed by Russell Morris, a personal friend of his. (Russell holding
the guitar in the photo with event organiser Shane Jenkins.) For
all you youngsters out there Russell Morris was most well know
for a 60's song called "The Real Thing". He was probably
more well known in the US than he is here in Australia. He's still
touring today. So we popped into Russell's house and he signed
the guitar. This should certainly help raise the value of the
guitar, even if it's not amongst the BMX industry. There will
be a reserve set for the guitar and if it's not reached we will
be placing the guitar on Ebay for Morris collectors to snap up.
We would like to thank Russell for his contribution to the charity,
you can find out more about Russell Morris at www.russellmorris.com.au

There is a big buzz with Bubba Harris in Australia doing
his thing for Redline travelling Australia, which ends on Sunday
when he catches a flight to return to the US. Few people know
the story behind how he ended up here. I thought I would get to
the bottom of it by going straight to the horses mouth, so to
speak..
bmxultra.com: It seems that XBR bringing Bubba Harris
to Australia has caused a big stir in the BMX scene. What was
it that made you decide firstly to bring a US rider to Australia
and secondly choose Bubba?
Gavin D: In three words; Factory Teams' Challenge. It
went off in 2006 and I wanted to lift it a notch in 2007. I thought
that having some international riders at this event would lift
its profile and make for some great viewing on TV. We would have
had TV coverage on Fox's FUEL station and by having international
riders in the race - it may have given us extra opportunity to
get the event on TVs and computers in other countries. I wanted
someone like Bubba to come over for the race and then head back
to the states saying "Man - you have to check out this FTC
race - it is off the chain" ... or something like that!
Why Bubba? He's the hottest property in BMX Racing at the moment. All the people I have spoken with in the US and overseas - just say he is the real thing; A Champion; a true Superstar. He has been world champion and at the age of 21 has 3X successive ABA Championships to his name - no one else has ever done that. Plus - I wanted to see the boy ride!
bmxultra.com: Bubba is primarily here for the XBR coaching
clinic right?
Gavin D: Yep. Redline managed to squeeze in some promotional
gigs up in Qld but apart from that - it is the XBR Coaching Clinic
and ONE race at Park Orchards BMX track on Saturday 20th! He has
been a big draw card for our coaching clinic and everybody who
participates will get to spend at least one hour with the champion.
bmxultra.com: What’s in it for XBR to bring a high
profile rider to Australia?
Gavin D: Depends who you ask I want to show people that
it is possible to make things happen. XBR is about making things
happen. I'm a dreamer ("an ideas man") and there are
many people who would knock me for that. I started my first newspaper
when I was 11 (a Guinea Pig Magazine - don't tell anyone), formed
my first "boy band" when I was 14, had my first theatre
company when I was 17 and spent the first part of my working life
as a professional actor/singer - so I am used to people trying
bring me down. Sometimes it gets under my skin, sometimes I dig
my heals and give them a fight - but mostly I just do my thing
- if people like what I do - they will follow. If they don't -
I have to choose between a lonely road of artistic and personal
fulfillment or a road of compromise. I choose option A.
bmxultra.com: Do you think the Phirebird guys would
have had much chance against the Redline team in a Factory Teams
Challenge if Redline had Bubba on board?
Gavin D: Steve Bradbury won the first Gold Medal in the
winter Olympics for Australia because everyone else in front of
him fell over. It snowed on Xmas day in AUSTRALIA!!! Bubba Harris
is a champion - but he is not unbeatable. Phirebird would have
Jamie Gray spearheading its attack - I am sure that those two
would have a great battle. At the end of the day - Don't know.
Don't Care - BUT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN AN AWSOME RACE!!!
bmxultra.com: Do you think that a FTC in 2007 would have
encouraged more riders to travel to Australia to race?
Gavin D: Definately. I have spoken with a number of people
who decided not to come down to Track Attack this year because
the FTC was not happening. The FTC is a wicked racing concept
and most of the people who were at the GT Track Attack in 2006
know that. Of course there are few purists who believe that BMX
is an individual sport - but then again, there were a group of
purists in the late 70s/early 80s who said that cricket would
never work as a limited over game. Thank you KERRY PACKER!
bmxultra.com: Do you think XBR will bring another international
BMX star to Aus in the near future?
Gavin D: Not sure. I have learnt a lot from this experience and
the better part of it has been good stuff. The public's support
and enthusiasm for Bubba has been awsome.
XBR is growing and it is something that the we will definately
consider in future. We are building a good team of volunteers
for 2007 and have some cool ideas that we will make happen during
the year. The first will be getting the paper into newsagents
- which will be happening in the next few months.
bmxultra.com: Will it be to Victoria? Or will the next
XBR clinic be in another state?
Gavin D: To come full circle - I think it will all be determined
by the FACTORY TEAMS' CHALLENGE. Wherever the FTC is - that's
where you will find XBR, our clinics and our support.
Thanks Shane and good luck with raising some good dosh for the Children's Hospital (Spinal unit) at BSX2007.

Factory Formula press release
Reno, Nevada – Formula Bicycles made its 2007 debut last
weekend at the ABA Silver Dollar Nationals in Reno with its brand
new title partners, Monster Energy Drink and Fly Racing. National
#1 Pros dR Donny Robinson and Alise Post joined newly turned A
Pro Warren McDow, 17 Expert Lee “The Flea” Lewis,
and 12 Expert Chad Kerley at the ABA’s season opener and
the new team did not disappoint.
Donny Robinson / AAPro – Formula Solution Series Pro – dR was the pro to beat in’06 and he looked like he picked up right where he left off last season. In Saturday’s AA Pro main, after he was killing through motos and semis, dR won the first two AA mains with ease, but has a rough third round and ended up 2nd overall. Donny dominated Pro Open both days with two victories. Overall, two wins, a second and a third ain’t bad.
Alise Post / Women’s Pro – Formula Solution Series Pro Minus Hybrid – Alise grabbed her #1 Pro award Saturday morning and followed it up by not losing a lap all weekend. She says her new frame was the “easiest frame to get used to.” This girl wins everything in sight and if she was old enough to gamble the casinos would’ve been in big trouble. Count Alise for the double for the weekend.
Warren McDow / A Pro – Formula Solution Series Pro Plus – Warren made his ABA Pro debut and picked quite a weekend to do it. Enough top ams turned this weekend that it looked just like Warren’s old 17-24 open class. Warren turned a few heads by riding well on Saturday, second and third in the first two motos and a crash in turn one in the third moto. Still finshed up with a tie for 3rd but got fourth on the tie breaker. Sunday McDow was an animal, dominating all his motos, quarters, and semis. Mains were a different story with three straight crashes. Welcome to the pro ranks, kid!
Lee Lewis / 17 Expert – Formula Solution Series Pro – Lee built his new bike on Thursday, practiced on Friday, and deemed it perfect. Lee nailed down a 5th in class and a 4th in open on Saturday. Sunday he was on fire, winning open and grabbing a second in class.
Chad Kerley / 12 Expert – Formula Solution Series Expert Plus – Chad didn’t have his best weekend, but still made all his mains. 4th in Open on Saturday and 7th in class. Sunday, he grabbed a second in open and another 7th in class. But you know what, he looked great doing it. Still the most stylish little guy on the planet.
Formula offers 30 sizes to make sure there’s a perfect fit for any rider. Available in heat treated 6061-T6 aluminum and 4130 chrome-moly, all Formula frames are built in house right here in the good ole USA.

I have been scheduled to interview the 2005 UCI World Champ, Redline's
own Bubba Harris on Thursday afternoon while he's here in Melbourne.
So what I want to do is open the floor for you, the bmxultra.com
readers, to ask Bubba a question. Email your question to webmaster@bmxultra.com
and dont forget to include your name and where you are from.
by Shane Jenkins/bmxultra.com
It's funny how things come full circle, Gork from Redline
is in my home town. In 2000 I was at Rockford racing and I sat
down to have a chat with Gork. He's familiar with bmxultra.com
and when I asked him if he thought there was anything lacking
in the website, he said he'd like to see an Australian Hall of
Fame. I sat on the idea until last year and thought now it's time,
it's just works out that Gork will be here for the event. Maybe
we could ask him to help with the presentation. We'll have to
see.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to nominate people for
the bmxultra.com Hall of Fame. I have been receiving votes from
some of the old school bmxers and industry people, and still waiting
on others. The reason the voting isn't open to everyone is because
I want the true legends to be inducted not just the people I wrote
the best bio for.
The location of the awards ceremony isn't 100% confirmed but last
I spoke with Gavin D from XBR it was going to be at the Scout
Hall where the XBR training clinic is going down, not far from
the Park Orchards track. The idea is there will be live music
and a BBQ with the awards. I will need to confirm that today.
Will keep you posted.

BSX2007 has currently raised $1500 for the Royal Children's Hospital
Foundation.
Track update
A bunch of riders made their way to Kinglake yesterday
to help punish the track and see if we can find any problems with
it. It is still very dry and broke up a little in spots, but nothing
major. It has already been patched up and we'll roll it in the
best we can over the next week. It should certainly be able to
cope better than it did last year.
Our starting gate is now in too. It's a 2 man gate that is a single
unit this time around so both sides drop together. Thanks to Levi
Collins for putting that together for us.
Now for all those guys that have ridden the track, or think it
looks easy, putting the gate in has just gone and made it a whole
lot more difficult to get over the first straight jumps because
you start half way down the hill. You had better be prepared to
drop your gearing on the big day.
Entry form
The BSX2007entry form is now available for download.
It includes all details, directions and a map. Don't worry about
mailing it in. Print it out and pre-fill all the information,
have the $30 entry fee handy, and hand it in
to the bmxultra.com/Pazzaz tent at either of the first 2 rounds
of the Track Attack series. You can enter on the day, please be
early though (before 12pm), racing will start without you otherwise.
Click
here to download the entry form.
Pre-order your BSX2007 t-shirt
We are in the process of finalising the design of the
BSX2007 t-shirts, and should have them for you to see very soon.
If you don't want to miss out, like so many did last year, send
an email to webmaster@bmxultra.com
and we will keep your order aside for you to pick up on the day.
The t-shirts will be gray marle in colour with a navy print of
the BSX2007 logo on the front and event details and sponsors logos
on the back. The t-shirts are just $15 each and all profits go
to the Royal Children's Hospital.

BMX Australia press release
BMX rider Bubba Harris, 21 from California arrived in Australia
today. After touring BMX International in Brisbane and media committments
on the famous Surfers Paradise beachfront on the Gold Coast, the
2005 BMX World Champion had time to try the 'local' beer and do
an interview with BMX Australia's media manager, Sharon Payne.
Is this your first time in Australia?
Yes. So far so good. My phone worked in New Zealand but not over
here.
What’s struck you about Australia so far?
Probably the steering wheel in the front, it feels like I should
be driving!
What are your plans while you’re here?
Mainly promotional things with Redline.
Are you doing a few clinics?
I will help out with the kids.
Bubba will be on site at his first coaching clinic in Australia on Saturday 13 January at Ashmore BMX Club on the Gold Coast. Bubba will be assisted by other Redline Team members from Australia, Michael Vockenson (Sunshine Coast), Todd Pascoe and Ashley Pemberton both from Townsville. the cocahing clinic starts with the sporckets at 8amand continues until after 12.45 pm when the 15+ age group begins.
The clinic is a prelude to BMX Queensland's sign on Sunday the 18 February, 2007.
I’ve hear you’re no novice to coaching clinics?
I’ve done a lot of teaching in my short career. My dad runs
clinics all year round just about. We’ve been doing them
since I was 12 years old. My dad is in Indiana now doing a 3 day
camp. Usually there are 40 – 60 kids for a camp. We take
novice to expert and all skill levels.
What else are you looking forward to?
I’ve known some of the (Australian) guys since I was little
so I’m looking forward to hanging out. I know Wade (Bootes),
Kama(kazi) and Jamie (Gray) pretty well. Any opportunity to go
to Australia wasn’t going to be anything I wanted to miss
out on. This is more or less a vacation. Ten days away but training
continues.
What sort of training will you try to do?
Cardio stuff and try to get to a gym. Skip probably every day,
whatever I can manage.
I’m missing an ABA race. Luckily the team (Beijing Olympics)
qualifying points start at the 2007 Worlds.
How do you rate your chances of getting onto the Olympic
team?
The talent pool is huge so just getting on the team is tough.
Pedal my bike and see where it takes me. In the US we have 15
guys who could easily go to the Olympics and medal.
Will you be looking further than the Beijing Olympics?
I still have a chance at two (Olympics) maybe three. I’ll
be pedalling. The Olympics will be the biggest thing to happen
BMX.
Has it made any difference to you?
I recently got sponsored by Visa and Nike. In that respect BMX
is just going to go places.
Anything else?
I have to take a picture of a kangaroo.

For those of you interested in checking out the track for

time with audio.

Eastern Region press release
Eastern Region BMX Inc have been informed today that it is
unlikely that the committed financial support from the National
Bicycle Association (NBA) for the DK Track Attack BMX race series
will be available.
Rather than proceed further in the hope that the NBA can resolve the issue in the short time available, Eastern Region have tonight made a decision to make budgetary changes to this years DK Track Attack series to remove the dependence on the NBA funding.
These changes effect only prize-money offered for money classes. All other classes, the venues and all arrangements remain unaltered. The prize-money offered will revert to that offered in 2006, and all entry fees will remain as published for 07 (and also unchanged from 06).
The Eastern Region regrets that this decision is necessary however the reasons behind it are completely beyond our control.
A flyer for the series, showing the revised prize money for the effected classes will be posted on the usual websites as soon as possible. In brief, the daily prize pools in each class are: AA men, $1000; Supergirls, $400; A men, $400; 14-16 voucher, $300; 11-13 voucher, $200; 8-10 voucher, $100; Bruiser Cruiser, $130; Vet Pro, $130. Bonus pools will remain, refer flyer for details.
Eastern Region will attempt to contact all riders who have entered money classes by the phone and email addresses shown on their entry forms to clarify the changes and to offer entry fee refund to any rider who wishes to withdraw.
Eastern Region trust that the riders will continue to support the Track Attack series concept which has built a well-deserved reputation for quality BMX racing in all pro and challenge classes.

It has been an amazing 2006 season for Michal Prokop. Racing every
weekend resulted in virtually living on the podium continually
from May till October all around the Globe! One day he earned
points for the BMX Olympics, few days later he was mastering the
World of mountain bikers in Fourcross competition. A second rainbow
jersey in his wardrobe and a second World Cup trophy too, even
while being ten years younger than his greatest rivals. Beating
the big names globally and giving pride to thousands fans home
in the small country of the Czech Republic is all in a day’s
work for Michal. And at the end of such a great year of 2006,
Michal Prokop meets UFO!
Michal Prokop joins UFO Plast for next two years.
“We are happy to announce that Michal Prokop: two times
Fourcross World Champion, two times Fourcross World Cup Winner
and runner-up in the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup, choose UFO
Plast to be his partner for race wear and body protectors for
the next two years, which includes his trip to the first ever
BMX race at the Olympic Games 2008 in China! This cooperation
is definitely great success for all of us. It is undoubtedly one
of the main achievements for UFO Plast, and we expect this signing
to really help us. Michal is one of the strongest, fastest, smoothest
and highly motivated guys both on gravity mountain bike or the
BMX scene - a real Pro rider,” said Mr. Simone Consoloni,
director of UFO Plast MTB and BMX departments. “Our cooperation
won’t be just about product and financial support. We want
to test and develop together a new range of pants, shorts, gloves
and body protection. Michal, being so focused on all the smallest
details of his equipment is the perfect partner for this”.
Mr. Consoloni clarifies.
“To become the spokesman for such a strong company like UFO Plast, especially when the two upcoming years are so important for my career, makes me proud and content. I am a bit of a fanatic when choosing my race wear comes, so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw how good the UFO 2007 product line is! All the MX-17 pants and gloves look sweet as well as the Empire race shorts. They already delivered prototype knee and shin protectors, which meet my needs very well, so that’s why I’m looking forward to all the future projects we will work on together. I’ll do my best, so that that my rivals will only see UFO on my back, while my fans will have the privilege of seeing the front side on the podium!” quipped current World Champion and World Cup Winner Michal Prokop. “And last but not the least, I would like to thank and wish all the best to the guys at Troy Lee Designs for all the support they gave me during last three seasons,” he added.
Usually the best source of information on Michal Prokop is his personal website at www.prokoprider.net but it is currently under re-construction, so please find more about Michal on the following pages of this release.

Arielle Martin Verhaaren press release
The
Lady in White has switched from her wedding gown to a white jersey.
Arielle Martin Verhaaren, who tied the knot on December 21, has
officially left Staats and will be running a white jersey in preparation
for the Olympics while seeking new sponsors for the 2007 season.
"Our Goals and focus were different and we did not have the same agenda" Arielle said. " Staats wanted me to focus on Mountain Bikes and my primary goal for the 2007 will be BMX and Beijing 2008 preparation. Like my teammates Bob and Mike, it was time to move on. I am excited to be affiliated with the Olympic training program and while I may hit a other races, UCI events will be my priority."
"In fact," said Martin, " My Olympic coaches are assisting me in putting together a program and schedule more conducive to proper training and peaking. I intend to give it all I have and with this new direction combined with more time now that I have completed my degree, I should be able to do more than I have ever done with this sport. It was hard, in years past, to carry 18.5 credits a semester at one of the most highly competitive universities, work a job, and fit BMX training in. Now it will be all about the sport I so dearly love.
This will be a great opportunity for a company to sponsor someone who promotes well, is at the top of the sport and has a chance to represent in 2008. For a resume or to obtain contact information email bmxdiva@msn.com

The Intense BMX Pro Team is proud to announce the addition of
Socko Energy Drinks for 2007 and 2008. Danny Caluag and Brandon
Meadows will be decked out in the all new Intense/Socko Green

Socko Energy Drinks had entered into the BMX market last season
with supporting a few riders, including Vet Pros Todd Parry and

with the signing of the Intense Pro team, we all know they are

The Intense BMX / Socko Energy Pro team kicked things off in a
huge way this past weekend at the ABA season opener in Reno, Nevada.
Danny Caluag must have loaded up with Socko before the AA Pro Mains both days, as he took the overall AA Pro win each day. Danny also won Pro Cruiser on Saturday and finished up 3rd on Sunday. Danny has already impressed many with his 2 huge wins at the NBL X-Mas Classic and now the ABA fans got to see Danny win AA Pro, both days, first hand. Danny quoted that the whole fit and feel of the new team has help improve his on track performance and he is very excited about the 2007 racing season with teammate Brandon Meadows.
Brandon Meadows was so excited about his first race for Intense/Socko that he raced the Friday night pre race. Brandon wound up taking the win on Friday night and carried over that momentum on Saturday with easily making both the AA and Pro Open main events. Brandon finished 5th in AA Pro and 3rd in Pro Open. Brandon looks forward to a full season of racing and is excited to have a teammate for the first time in years.
Look for the riders to do a full season or racing at all the ABA and NBL Pro Series events, as well as the UCI Super Cross series, North American UCI events, and the World Championships.
The Intense BMX/Socko Energy Pro Team is proudly supported by THE Products, Fly Racing, SINZ Racing, Shimano, Intense Tire Systems, OGIO, Cyto Sport, and Vigor.

are set to marry late in September 2007. On behalf of the bmxultra.com

BMXpros.com press release
The ABA kicked things off huge this past weekend, as the
ABA crew outdid themselves with one of the best race tracks ever
build at the Reno Livestock arena for the 2007 Pro Series opener.
With 25 of the worlds top AA Pros in attendance, the Silver Dollar
Nationals was a great weekend of exciting Pro racing and has set
the stage for what should be the best year of AA Pro racing in
the ABA's history. Randy Stumpfhauser, Brandon Meadows, and Cristian
Becerine were all in attendance for the event and here is how
they finished up:
Randy Stumpfhauser started off the 2007 ABA race season with a continuance of his recent domination. On Saturday, Randy was out front all day and easily made it to the AA Pro Main event. Once the main event kicked off the 2 main events, it seemed Randy was off his A game just a bit, as he would finish up 8th for the day. On Sunday, Randy was back and ready to redeem himself. Randy rode 3 impressive rounds and finished up 2nd overall for the day. Randy's sponsors include GT Bicycles, Kenda, ODI, Tangent, Sun Rims, Bombshell, Fly Racing, SINZ Products, Powerbar, OGIO, SDG, SRAM, Cyto Sport, and BMXpros.com.
Cristian Becerine was the sole rider for the Free Agent world team in attendance in Reno, but his performance made up for the lack of team mates. On Saturday, Cristian was one of the fastest Pros on the track but a crash directly behind him caused him to crash and miss out of the AA main on Saturday. He was in the Pro Open main event, where he would finish up 4th. On Sunday, Cristian was in both the AA and Pro open main events. In AA, Cristian finished up 4th, and in Pro Open he powered his way to an impressive 2nd place. Cristian's Sponsors include: Free Agent, Answer, Kenda, THE Products, Sun Ringle, Shimano, Powerbar, Cyto Sport, OGIO, and Thomson Seat Posts and BMXpros.com
Brandon Meadows made a huge impression in Reno. First off, it was Brandon's first race for his new sponsor Intense BMX/Socko Energy. Brandon was so excited about his new sponsorship, that he raced on Friday night at the ABA National Pre race, taking home the win. On Saturday, Brandon kept things going as he impressed the Nor Cal fans all day and made both the AA Pro and Pro Open main events. Brandon would finish up 3rd in Pro Open and 5th in AA. Brandon is excited about 2007 and looks forward to a healthy year of racing. Brandon's Sponsors include Intense BMX, Socko Energy, SINZ Racing, THE Products, Fly Racing, Shimano, Power Bar, Intense Tire Systems, Cyto Sport, OGIO, Thomson Seat Posts, and BMXpros.com
A quick update on Kyle Bennett. Kyle is recovering well and quickly from his knee surgery 3 month ago. Kyle is in the mid stages of his recovery, but things looks good. Kyle looks forward to his return to the BMX National tour in the near future.
Double A Marketing proudly represents Cristian Becerine, Kyle Bennett, Dale Holmes, Brandon Meadows, and Randy Stumpfhauser. For more information on any of the riders or on Double A Marketing, please visit BMXPros.com

A number of us from Harbour City BMX Club (Gladstone Qld) travelled
to Nerang this past weekend for the Nerang Nationals. We all had
a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the racing and the Nerang
Clubs hospitality. Unfortunately our weekend was soured somewhat
when thieves decided to cut through Nerangs boundary fence and
steal our 7.2 X 3.6 metre collapsible Quikshade on Saturday night.
This was despite the fact that a number of people were camped
at the track. The shade was bought with a government grant for
$3600 so is not easily replaced. The Vockenson family also had
their shade stolen at the same time.
The Nerang Club have been great in offering to help us make an
insurance claim to hopefully replace the shade.
As the host club for this years State Championships we can not
afford to replace the shade ourselves as our resorces are needed
elsewhere but we are extremely keen to see the perpetrators of
the theft brought to justice. They have in effect stolen the shade
from our kids.
The shade is blue in colour with "Harbour City BMX Club"
written on the two longer sides with a "Gaming Community
Benefit Fund" logo next to the clubs name. If the sign writing
panels were removed(unpicked) there would be two very large darker
panels against the lighter(faded) blue of the rest of the shade.
We know the shade was not taken by fellow BMXers but we would
ask if people (particuarly those in Queensland and Northern New
South Wales) could help by keeping an eye out for it. The shade
is prominent at every Open Day our members attend and as such
would be easily recognised by most Qld BMXers.
If it shows up it will most likely be at some other sporting event
where collapsible shades are popular with Vocko's shade set up
next to it(or ebay which I will be watching closely).
Thanks to the BMX community for your help in advance.

Track update
It was a big weekend of riding and working on the track
but I can finally say I that the track is ready for racing thanks
to everyone who helped out (photos soon) including Barb, Chris
and Adam Carey, Stiffy, Shannon Rademaker, Nick Tonkin, Stuart,
Jamie and Brandan Bullows, Simon Anderson, Craig Walczuk, and
Matt Dickinson.
I have to give honourable mentions to a couple of people who,
this last few months, have gone well above and beyond what I expected
from anyone helping to make things happen, they are Shannon Rademaker
who has been helping right from the very start of the project.
Chris Van Winden who, without him many of the track changes would
not have been possible, Chris is an amazing Dingo operator. And
finally Matt Dickinson, despite the mammoth task of working on
the Park Orchards track preparing it for Track Attack, he's always
found time to make the trip for some manual labour and often bringing
as many riders as he could fit in his car.
We will be riding the track again next weekend, if anyone is interested
in joining us email webmaster@bmxultra.com.

BMX Australia press release
Wade Bootes has put selectors for the Beijing Olympics on
notice by winning the UCI Round 4 at Nerang on the Gold Coast
today. The 31 year old Gold Coast rider dominated after the first
corner to win the elite men’s final. With the event doubling
as a series race, Bootes also retains the lead in the Hog’s
Breath Café Probikx National Tour by a massive 120 points.
“In today’s competition everyone has a chance,” explained Bootes. Newly announced as the Talent ID coach for BMX Australia, Bootes has been kept busy with his new position
“Working with those kids keeps me energised,” said Bootes. One of the older riders in Australia and a father of two plans to push ahead to make one of the top three male spots for the Olympic debut in Beijing.
“Hopefully I can hang in there. Until they beat me I’m not quitting!” Bootes exclaimed.
Fellow Nerang Club member, Michael “Tiger” Robinson(Brisbane) took second place but looked unlikely to make the final. An official decision after the sem-finals relegated unlucky Adelaide rider, Brian Kirkham to last place in the semi-final gave Robinson a berth in the final race. Robinson is the highest ranked Australian in the Pacific- Oceania UCI rankings now in third place.
Third placed Khalen Young (Sydney) made a remarkable comeback to the sport with a creditable third place. The 22 year old ‘street kid’ has impressed High Performance Coach, Sean Dwight. “Khalen’s focused on an Olympic berth. He needs to make the World Championships selection for Canada in July first.” Dwight said.
World Championship finalist, Billy Jolliffe (Tamworth) finished in fourth with National Champion, Kamakazi (Gold Coast) placing in fifth. Jared Graves (Toowoomba) was satisfied with seventh in his first BMX race of the season but Luke Madill (Penrith) was disappointed to finish in eighth.
The elite women’s racing was dominated by the High Performance riders with Melissa Mankowski (Moranbah) making a strong move in the final to win. The BMX Junior Cyclist of the Year award winner has now won her first national race as an elite rider. Second was 2005 World Junior Champion, Nicole Callisto (Perth) who still leads the Probikx series by 40 points from today’s third placed Tanya Bailey also from Perth.
New Zealand’s top rider, Sarah Walker placed fourth ahead of Australia’s champion, Krystal Cranfield (Gladstone).
Junior men’s Steven Janssen (Nerang) used his home track advantage to win ahead of Townsville’s Ashley Pemberton.
The Junior Women’s field was competitive with Caroline Buchanan (Canberra) winning her first race in the series just ahead of series leader, Ziggy Callan (Melbourne).

Cycling Promotion Fund press release
Bicycles have extended their sales lead over cars for 2006, with
Australian bike sales hitting a new record of almost 1.3 million
while car sales declined from the previous year.
Bicycle sales in Australia totalled 1,273,781 for their fifth straight year of million-plus sales, more than 32 per cent ahead of the motor vehicle sales total of 962,521.
In the seventh successive year in which bicycles have outsold cars, bikes have extended their lead to more than 300,000 – a sales edge which comfortably exceeds the total sales of vehicle market leader Toyota.
The Cycling Promotion Fund (CPF), Australia’s peak bicycle promotional body, said sales had increased by nine per cent as more and more Australians turned to cycling to boost their fitness and cut their petrol bills.
CPF spokesman Ian Christie said Australians were using bikes not just for recreation but increasingly as their preferred form of day-to-day transport.
“There is an emerging trend towards people using bikes as their official company-supplied vehicle in place of the traditional company car,” he said.
“Some of Australia’s biggest corporations now have bicycle fleets, and when you add in government organisations, we now know of at least 50 organisations which operate fleets of bikes.
“Although the company bicycle is a long way from taking over from the company car, it’s an important trend when you consider that nearly half of all cars sold are to company fleets.”
Mr Christie said record sales were across all market segments from everyday recreational bikes and children’s bikes right through to high-end road and competition bicycles.

Track work this weekend
There are some small things that still need to be done
to the track before the big day so we have organised a working
bee over the weekend, the most important thing that needs to be
done is riding. As you are all aware it's been very dry so it's
also been difficult to roll the track in, plenty of water (bore
water) and riding will be the key. There will be a general clean
up of the surrounds, which shouldn't take long. We will also be
adding some finishing touches to the newly extended final straight.
BSX rules
BSX is a fun event, run by riders for riders, so there
aren't very many rules, they go like this;
One of the questions we are often asked is "what happens if the two sides of the track aren't 100% even?" We have done our best to ensure both sides of the track are as even as possible. The rider with the fastest time for each heat chooses their lane, so if you want a choice make sure you get a fast time. Since it's a fun event and in the middle of a very intense week of racing we thought running it this way would make it easier for the riders and more exciting for the spectators.

BAWLS Guarana press release
BAWLS Guarana to support BMX racing as official energy
drink of National Bicycle League
Miami, FL – BAWLS Guarana today announced their entry into
BMX racing as the “Official Energy Drink” of the National
Bicycle League (NBL). Tens of thousands of BMX racers across North
America will now rely on the refreshing taste and caffeinated
kick of BAWLS Guarana to keep them bouncing down the track this
season! Set to be an official sport for the first time at the
2008 Olympics in Beijing, BMX racing is the latest niche to join
BAWLS Guarana’s portfolio of targeted industries which include
video gaming, paintball and fashion.
As the Official Energy Drink of the NBL, BAWLS Guarana will enjoy exclusive sampling and on-track signage rights at all NBL-sanctioned national races, set to take place in more than 20 cities across the US. BAWLS will launch an aggressive sampling effort to introduce tens of thousands of BMX enthusiasts to the refreshing, caffeine-packed taste of BAWLS Guarana. The brand also plans to launch a cooperative marketing effort with the NBL through a limited edition run of BAWLS Guarana packaging dedicated to BMX racing, as well as a nationwide contest.
BAWLS Guarana, known for its cult-like following among paintball and videogame enthusiasts, hopes to be embraced by its new BMX fans with the same enthusiasm. “The fast-paced energy and growing global reputation of BMX racing makes it a perfect fit for our brand,” said Hoby Buppert, CEO. “Many of our customers are involved in BMX racing and we are excited to support them, as well as to bring plenty of refreshing energy to the newest Olympic sport!”
Through their partnership with the NBL, BAWLS Guarana will also have a presence at several Olympic qualifier events. Olympic hopefuls will have opportunities to gather qualifying points at nine NBL National races this year. The NBL is the only BMX organization affiliated with the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) - the international governing body of cycling that is qualifying riders from around the world to participate in the 2008 Olympics. “With the Olympics just around the corner, BAWLS has entered the BMX Market at just the right time,” commented NBL Marketing and Communications Director Kevin O’Brien. “We honestly love the taste of their product and to see how Paintballers and Gamers have embraced it makes us confident that BMXer’s will do the same.”
About the National Bicycle League

and national levels of BMX racing across the country and in Puerto
Rico. With more than 20,000 members and more than 160 race tracks,

America and is the proud host of the 2007/2008 UCI North American
Continental Series – the gateway to the Olympics for US
athletes. NBL sanctions tracks in a large number of states across
the country and offers programs for all levels and ages of riders,
both male and female. The NBL’s National Series is the premier
BMX racing series in America and comes to a thrilling end on Labor
Day weekend of each year with the legendary NBL Grand National.
The NBL is affiliated to USA Cycling, the only national cycling
federation in the US recognized by the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale)
who is in turn, the World governing body for all cycling disciplines.
About BAWLS
BAWLS is the brainchild of entrepreneur Hoby Buppert, CEO of Hobarama,
LLC, who named the beverage for the caffeinated “bounce”
the drink packs. Widely distributed to local super markets, convenience
stores (7-Eleven), Target Superstores, CompUSA stores and gaming
venues; BAWLS is a premium, non-alcoholic, carbonated beverage
made from the guarana berry harvested in the Amazonian Rainforest.
The caffeine found in BAWLS Guarana contains the same amount of
caffeine as coffee and nearly three times that of traditional
sodas due to a naturally occurring form of the stimulant found
in the guarana berry. BAWLS’ unique refreshing flavor tastes
like a citrus infused cream soda and its popularity continues
to grow over a variety of different sectors including financial
institutions, the fashion industry, technology businesses, military
bases, extreme sports and college campuses. For more information,

Psykopath press release
Psykopath Industries is proud to announce the resigning of elite
rider Sergio Salazar for 2007. Sergio's recent accomplishments
were holding the world's #4 ranking in elite cruiser and numerous
national wins throughout South America. Currently, he has been
training with his teammate factory Psykopath's six-time world
champion Augusto Castro. Sergio Salazar recently went to Columbus
Ohio to race the Christmas Classic. Sergio was able to pull a
second place on the first day of the race and took a first place
win on the second race day in the newly formed Super X Pro class.
This class featured over 75 of the fastest new pro riders on the
circuit such as Johnathan Villa, Warren McDow Mike Gonzales and
Jeffrey Upshaw just to name a few. The competition was definately
some of the toughest competition in this class. It was sort of
like Gladiator school. Look for Sergio Salazar hitting select
US Nationals throughout the year and a quest for an olympic spot
on the Columnian team and a possible medal in the 2008 Olympics.
Also look for all the Psykopath facotry riders at both ABA and
NBL Nationals sporting the New 2007 aluminum race frames which
will come in many sizes from Mini to XXL Pro.
BMXPros.com press release
Round 2 of the NBL 2007 Points season kicked off at one of
the best NBL national events of each and every year, the X-Mas
Classic. With one of the best venues for a BMX National event,
the X-Mas Classic always has a tough and technical track built
for the Pro riders with 2 Pro Strait aways and is always packed
full of an international who's who of the Pro Class. Both Randy
Stumpfhauser and Cristian Becerine made the trip out to Ohio,
looking to add some more impressive results carrying over from
the last few events each has attended. Here is how they finished
up at the event:
Cristian Becerine has been riding very consistent since his return mid season 2006 after his shoulder injury. Cristian is always one of the most impressive riders down the first strait and Ohio was no exception. On Day 1, Cristian was very close to a win in Pro Open, as he finished up 2nd overall. On Day 2, Cristian was in the Elite Men’s main event, where a crash and a bouncing bike kept him from a possible win and held him to a 5th for the day. Cristian looks to have another solid weekend at the ABA Opener in Reno Nevada next weekend. Cristian's Sponsors include: Free Agent, Answer, Kenda, THE Products, Sun Ringle, Shimano, Powerbar, Champion Nutrition, BMXpros.com, OGIO, and Thomson Seat Posts.
Randy Stumpfhauser has been one of the most consistent and dominating Pros for the past few months with a slew of Elite Men’s and AA Pro wins. Coming into Columbus, Randy has had a perfect season with wins at the NBL Opener, but was unable to continue his winning streak. On Day 1, Randy finished up 5th in Elite Pro and 6th in Pro Open. On Day 2, Randy was unlucky in the Elite Pro semi and missed out on the main event. Randy looks forward to the ABA Reno National event on January 5-7th, to get back atop the podium. Randy's sponsors include GT Bicycles, Kenda, ODI, Tangent, Sun Rims, Bombshell, Fly Racing, SINZ Products, Powerbar, CTI Knee Braces, OGIO, SDG, SRAM, Easton, Cyto Sport, and BMXpros.com.
Double A Marketing proudly represents Cristian Becerine, Kyle Bennett, Dale Holmes, Brandon Meadows, and Randy Stumpfhauser. Look for new riders to be added on for 2007. For more information on any of the riders or on Double A Marketing, please visit BMXPros.com
