ABA BMX press release
Gilbert, Arizona— The ABA (American Bicycle Association)
will provide live-streaming coverage of Stop #8 on the national
event on the 2007 BMX (Bicycle Motocross ) racing series. The
ABA has previously provided a "live" streaming feed
of its national events for fans and racers to get real-time coverage
of its national BMX races. Adding this streaming-video coverage
is a first and unprecedented for the sport!
The ABA "Super Nationals" is one of the premier events on the national-race schedule and the event is being held at an the world's first "BMX Only" covered bicycle motocross dirt track that was constructed exclusively by ABA`s own track building "ACE" Billy Allen for this national-level race. Coverage will be shown live each day at www.ababmx.tv . The live race action will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday March 31st and 8 a.m. on Sunday April 1st. (All times are Central). The ABA continues to lead the sport of BMX with innovation and added value for its members, sponsors and spectators. The live-streaming video coverage of the ABA "Super Nationals" of BMX from Desoto, Texas is the eighth stop of several ABA BMX events to be shown in 2007!

The live-streaming video feed will be produced by ABABMX.tv and BMX TV Direct, experts in BMX race coverage. The production team will cover both the Saturday and Sunday events. The three-camera shoot will be mixed and edited as the action happens.

The Northern Park BMX club at Mill Park in Melbourne's northern
suburbs will be hosting the first round of the Autumn Series on
Friday 30 March (Tomorrow). Racing starts at 7pm.
New riders and visitors from other clubs are welcome.
The three round Autumn Series is currently supported by Goldcross Cycles Epping and Dirt Designs. The entry fee for each round is $5 per rider. There will be a specially designed presentation number plate as the series award. Riders will be scored/awarded in their own age classes, but may be combined with other classes during each of the rounds where classes are under subscribed. There will be additional awards to the series champions (highest points winners) in cruiser, male and female classes.
A series points system has been put in place to encourage participation.
Points will be scored on your overall position in your own age group for the night.
1st = 8 points, 2nd = 7, 3rd = 6 ... 7th = 2 and 8th = 1 point.
Bonus points are added for the number of people in your age class for the round.
2 riders = 2 bonus points, 5 riders = 5 bonus points.
So if you won in a class with only one rider you would get 8 + 1 = 9 points for the round. However if you got 3rd and there were 6 riders you would get 6 + 6 = 12 points.
Points from all three rounds will be counted for end of series totals. You only have to compete at one round to be eligible for end of series prizes, but you must pay for a minimum of two rounds.
We hope that this is a good model that we can build on in the future.
Location
The track is located at Sycamore Reserve, Mill Park, Victoria.
Training sessions
Gate practics every Wednesday night from 6pm.
Upcoming racing (dates subject to change)
Autumn Series (Friday nights at 7pm)

Formula press release
Phoenix, Arizona – Formula Bicycle Company sent three riders
out to Phoenix to represent Formula and it’s two partners,
Monster Energy Drink and Fly Racing. National #1 Women’s
Pro, Alise Post was coming off a two month break in which she
concentrated on getting a Minnesota state title in gymnastics.
Post felt a bit rusty, but you know you can never count the champ
out. Current 17-18 Expert points leader Lee Lewis also made the
trip to Arizona to try to extend his NAG lead; every point counts.
15 Expert Lahsaan Kobza made his 2007 debut in Phoenix. Rainy
weather caused some delays, but the track was good and ready to
rock.
Alise Post – Women’s Pro – Formula Solution Pro Minus Hybrid - Alise was in fine form and showed no signs of rust winning lap after lap, culminating in yet another Pro win on Saturday against the likes of Phoenix local Kim Hayashi, no less. On Sunday’s first main, Post was out front yet again but crashed hard in the slippery first turn and finished seventh. With her work cut out for her, Post won the second two mains only to come up one point short of Terra Nichols. “The Beast” had to settle for second place on Sunday but the weekend’s points were enough to vault her back to the top of the 2007 ABA Womne’s Pro points chase.
Lee Lewis – 17 Expert – Formula Solution Pro – Lee has been on a tear on 2007 and is currently NAG #1 in 17-18 Expert points. Saturday, Flea had a disastrous Open main, squeaking out a 7th. Redemption came in his Expert main, with yet another win and the top of the podium. Sunday, Lewis once again struggled in Open, but did well where it counts, finishing third in class. Lee is still on top of the 17-18 Expert points heap.
Lahsaan Kobza - 15 Expert – Formula Solution Pro Plus – Lahsaan hadn’t raced a national since ABA Grands so he definitely had some rust to shake off. In Saturday’s Open main, Kobza was leading until a bobble threw him to the back of the pack. But just like Lee, Kobza found his own redemption in his class main, with his first win of the year. Kobza battled sickness on Saturday night and just wasn’t up to it on Sunday and bowed out. One thing is for sure though, Kobza is back.
Where’s dR?
A ton of people have been wondering what’s up with
Donny and why haven’t they seen him much this year. The
answer is pretty simple really: he’s been training. dR’s
USAC coaches have put him on a limited schedule to train for the
Olympics, so expect Donny to concentrate on the UCI/NBL races
as well as the UCI Supercross events. Donny will be in Florida
for both NBL Nationals before heading off to Madrid, Spain for
the UCI Supercross there. ALSO, dR has a new major corporate sponsor.

this new sponsor, and when we say major we mean major. This sponsor
will be sure to get people’s tongues wagging. Along with
Monster Energy Drink and Fly Racing, this new sponsor is just
another in a line of premium partners that Donny and Formula will
bring to BMX in 2007. As always dR is rocking Elites aboard his
white Formula Solution Pro.

Double A Marketing press release
Round 5 of the 2007 ABA Pro Series tour took place this past weekend
in Phoenix, Arizona at the world famous Black Mountain BMX track.
The Winter nationals at the Black Mountain track, quite different
than in years past, is still one of the fastest and is one of
the most anticipated events of the year. With rain looming over
the Phoenix area on Thursday and Friday, it was a near disaster
for the super fast track, but the Winter Nationals dodged a mudfest
and the sun shined bright on the ABA come race time on Saturday.
Here is how the guys finished up:
Randy Stumpfhauser was simply amazing at the
Winter nationals. On Saturday, well, all we really need to say
is that Randy won all 3 AA Pro Main events. Flat out faster than
anyone else, Stumpy was able to dodge what he called "the
track snakes" that were out in force, causing a ton of crashed
and win AA Pro, not only on Saturday but on Sunday as well. Sunday
was just like the day before with another overall win in AA Pro
and another great ABA score. Look for Randy to continue on winning
this weekend in Sarasota, Florida at the NBL UCI North American
Round. Randy's sponsors include GT Bicycles, Kenda, ODI, Tangent,
Sun Rims, Bombshell, Fly Racing, SINZ Products, Powerbar, CTI
Knee Braces, OGIO, SDG, SRAM, Easton, Cyto Sport, and BMXpros.com.
Brandon Meadows impressed the Phoenix crowd with
his impressive racing this weekend. On Saturday, after just missing
out on the AA Pro main, he came back and smoked the entire Pro
Open field with a huge win. On Sunday, Brandon came back and was
ready for both main events. A crash in the 2nd main would hold
Brandon to 4th overall for the day in AA Pro, but his riding was
much more impressive than 4th. Brandon's Sponsors include Intense
BMX, Socko Energy Drinks, SINZ Racing, THE Products, Fly Racing,
Shimano, Power Bar, Intense Tire Systems, Cyto Sport, OGIO, Thomson
Seat Posts, and BMXpros.com
Cristian Becerine was unable to miss the track
snakes that Randy mentioned, as he made all 4 main events but
had crashed in each of them. Looking like one of the few riders
would give Randy a run for his money in the win, Cristian had
extremely bad luck and was caught up in a slew of crashes. Cristian
would leave Phoenix with a 7th and 8th in AA Pro and 2 8th in
Pro Open, but he will be ready for next weekends NBL event. Cristian's
Sponsors include: Free Agent, Fly Racing, Sinz Racing Products,
Kenda, THE Products, ODI, Sun Ringle, Shimano, Powerbar, Cyto
Sport, OGIO, Oakley, Thomson Seat Posts, and BMXpros.com
Joey Bradford was going extremely fast this past
weekend and A pro was one of the biggest classes at the Winter
nationals. After a rough week of being in Phoenix, Joey was ready
to get on the track and race, and he did a great job of that.
On Saturday, Joey was in the main event and finished up 3rd overall.
On Sunday, Joey took it up a notch and was up for the overall
win, but just missed out and would finish up 2nd overall. Joey's
Sponsors include GT Bicycles, Fly Racing, Oakley, Bombshell, THE
Products, Sun Ringle, Kenda, SDG, FSA, Sponsorhouse, ODI, Powerbar,
Cyto Sport, Circle E, SRAM, Avid, OGIO, Sirius Satellite Radio,
JoeyBradford.com, and BMXpros.com
Double A Marketing proudly represents Cristian Becerine, Kyle
Bennett, Joey Bradford, Brandon Meadows, and Randy Stumpfhauser.

This won't be news to those of you following Luke Madill,
Khalen Young, Mike Fenwick and Warwick Stevenson results. But
the Aussie boys did a fine job tearing it up at the ABA Winter
Nationals at Pheonix Arizona. The Winter Nationals is a pro series
race so it's no surprise that the Aussie boys weren't the only
international riders there.
Khalen Young had an exceptional AA Pro debut. The Aussies are
well known to have made an impact on the AA pro field. With the
likes of Kamakazi having broken a record having turned AA immediatly
when he arrived at the US a few years ago, it took him just one
month to win his first AA race. Also Warwick Stevenson and Wade
Bootes have both held the coveted #1 title. Some international
readers may be aware that Khalen made the semi final at the 2003
World Championships at Perth in the elite mens class. He's been
in and out of the sport since then. Sean Dwight has helped Khalen
focus on his racing and he looks well on the way to international
stardom.
The Aussie boys will be heading down to Florida for UCI action
at the NBL double header, the Gator National at Sarasota (Mar
31-Apr 1) and The Easter Classic at Florida (Apr 7-8).
I believe that they will be joined by Pacific Oceanic UCI senior
elite points leader Jared Graves.

“BMX track design these days has become a science, in order to create tracks that are spectacular and challenging yet in a safe manner. This track has it all” says Johan Lindstrom, UCI Technical Delegate for the Olympic Games.
“The Olympic track has the perfect mix between sprinting pedaling parts, highly technical rhythm sections and the high speed big, burly jumps. The track will definitely be the perfect canvas to select an Olympic Champion among the very best” continues Lindstrom.
The actual track construction will commence in May 2007 with UCI track builder, Tom Ritzenthaler (USA) leading the construction. Potential Olympic participants will be able to get acquainted to the track during the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup, 20-21 August 2007. This will be the official test event and the only opportunity to ride on the track prior to the Olympic Games.
“One of our goals is to create a track that the BMX riders have fun riding with a lot of flow and rhythm, yet a track where they are being challenged.” says UCI official track builder Tom Ritzenthaler (USA).
“The track looks like a lot of fun, and I can’t wait to try it out. I think most of the top riders will say the same. You need to be a complete BMX rider to win on this track” says Roger Rinderknecht (Switzerland) top elite rider and member of the UCI BMX Commission.
“Beijing 2008 is thrilled to be the first Olympic Games featuring BMX racing, and with this magnificent track is will certainly make a great impact in the Games” says Zhang Kai, BMX Cycling Deputy Sports Manager of BOCOG (Beijing Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games).
UCI has created several 3D images to showcase what the track will eventually look like. The 3D images of the Olympic BMX track can be found on www.uci.ch

The One Bicycles/bmxultra.com jerseys have been updated for
2007 and you should see the team riders in their jerseys in the
next couple of weeks.
The jersey features an all new design with a slight change in sponsor logos for the 2007 season. "The new design keeps our team jerseys in alignment with the current One Bicycles jersey. It also gave us an opportunity to tidy things up a little. While we have always loved the jerseys that One have designed for us, we were always risking the jerseys looking a little too busy. Last year was a big year in sales for the One Bicycles/bmxultra.com jersey. No one profits from them, they just help us promote bmxultra.com and our team sponsors. I don't know of many others that offer a customised team replica jersey which you could choose your name, country flag and even go as far as swaping the team colour, blue, to another colour." said bmxultra.com Team Manager, Shane Jenkins.
The jersey will soon be available for sale exclusively through the One Bicycles online store at www.onebicycles.com/enter.html
The bmxultra.com team is proudly supported by One Bicycles, Supercross BMX, Answer BMX, Dirt Designs, ATi grips/ ActionSportsDepot.net, and Tektro brakes.

According
to UNI over 1 million Uni-Seats were sold in the 80's. It was
the number one selling BMX seat! Uni-Seats were the only type
of seat in it's class. A two piece unit bonded for weight saving
with a plastic molded seat and fiberglass seat post. THE have
a version of one of the early models. The Carbon mini seat/post
combo. Back in the day everyone either had a UNI seat or they
wanted one. Everything was about the bling and saving weight,
I guess not so much different to today.
Now the UNI seat was really more for the lighter and younger riders, there was a slightly heavier and stronger seat for anyone who didn't fit that description, it was similar construction made by Elina, but enough of a history lesson, back to the new UNI seats.
The UNI seat was never about looks, but functionality and drastic weight advantages. The new UNI seat will be in Blue, Black, Red, Green and Pink and should be available around June.

I have been getting back to my roots racing regularly at club
races. I was having a conversation with a new rider about pedals.
They thought it was a rule for racing beyond your club to run
clips (probably better known as clipless pedals, but we'll call
them clips to save confusion for the beginners). I explained to
them it's a choice. And that there is no such rule. I could see
the relief on their face, and I am sure you could have seen the
horror on mine. I have never run clips on my BMX bike in the 25
years that I have been racing, through 28 state championships
events, 18 Australian Championships, 4 world championships and
numerous races through North America, not to even test them out.
I don't think I am beyond them, I just think that if I want to
enjoy racing after all these years I should stick with the freedom
of flat pedals. Besides it's a whole lotta fun beating guys who
are clipped in when they know you are on flats. I did race mountain
bikes in the early 90's and used clips then, but when I sold my
MTB the clips and "cheater" shoes went with it.
I had to go on and explain that the best way to learn a good pedaling technique is to race with flats, at least to begin with. The strongest part of your pedal stroke would always be the downwards push on your pedal and not the pull you would get from being clipped in. Although there are theoretical advantages in pushing and pulling at the same time, we'll keep it simple for the sake of this article. It's a shame to see people go to clips thinking they will be the answer to keeping up with the rest of the field, when in fact the real answer is to train harder, and improve technique. Some people say they are riding for fun but use clips. There seems to be this mind set that if you are beyond a certain age that you should clip in or if you want to improve or stay competitive. I have to agree with 2005 UCI world champion, Bubba Harris, who said "Flats are for fun. Clips are racing." to an extent. I am sure that if you were considering being a competitive elite rider there would be little choice. But if you want to have fun racing stay on flats.
Props to all the flat pedal BMXers out there.

ABA BMX press release
BAWLS Guarana has been named the exclusive Energy Drink
of the 2007 ABA National BMX Series
Gilbert, Arizona— The American Bicycle Association (ABA)
has reached an agreement with BAWLS Guarana to be named the “Official
Energy Drink” of the 2007 ABA National Bicycle Motocross
(BMX) racing series. The exclusive agreement includes participation
in every ABA national event, product sampling and a cross-promotion
with select retail stores that will reach consumers nationwide.
BAWLS Guarana is active in youth and action sports with its caffeine-packed soda that as stated in the company tag line; “keeps you bouncing”. BAWLS will have representatives at every national ABA event providing samples and information about its products under the BAWLS Guarana tents. Adding excitement and product integration into this affiliation is key. ABA and BAWLS are developing exciting promotions that will make the sport of BMX bounce like mad in 2007!
“Our new affiliation with BAWLS Guarana is exciting, because it is so much more than sponsorship. The fact that BAWLS is promoting the sport of BMX through its retail affiliations makes them a valuable marketing partner and we welcome them to the sport and the ABA!”, said Clayton John, President of the ABA.
The ABA has made recent strides in adding both new sponsors to the sport of BMX, but also in establishing new marketing objectives that will increase awareness of the sport. New sponsors have become marketing partners that reach beyond the confines of previous affiliations. With BMX emerging as the newest of Olympic action sports in 2008 the ABA is poised for tremendous growth.
BAWLS the brainchild of entrepreneur Hoby Buppert, CEO of Hobarama, LLC, who named the beverage for the caffeinated “bounce” the drink packs. Widely distributed to local supermarkets, convenience stores (7-Eleven), Target Superstores, CompUSA stores and gaming venues; BAWLS is a premium, non-alcoholic, carbonated beverage made from the guarana berry harvested in the Amazonian Rainforest. The caffeine found in BAWLS Guarana contains the same amount of caffeine as coffee and nearly three times that of traditional sodas due to a naturally occurring form of the stimulant found in the guarana berry. BAWLS’ unique refreshing flavor tastes like a citrus infused cream soda and its popularity continues to grow over a variety of different sectors including financial institutions, the fashion industry, technological businesses, military bases, extreme sports and college campuses. Round 2 of the WA Super Series moved into the south west town
of Collie on March 11th. With a number of notable AA riders missing
the field was wide open as to who would take home the chocolates.
Collie is renowned as a fast and technical track and with minimal changes to the layout over the last couple of years, it didn’t disappoint. Racing kicked off mid afternoon under clear skies which meant the finals were run under lights to add to the atmosphere. Here’s how the money classes went down..
AA Women
This was an all points affair with 5 riders making the start list.
BB Cycles Alyce Patroni revelled in the absence of older sister
Kylie to lead on points going into the final extra moto. A crash
in the second to last straight placed her fifth in the final round
but she had enough points in the bank to hold off Petra Brown
(Freedom BMX/Undecided) and Catherine Hopkins.
A Men
A 20 rider sign up list meant we had a semi final with several
riders maintaining their good form from round 1 at Westside to
progress to the main event. Andrew Brooks booked his second main
in as many races as too did Cameron Ainger and both King brothers
from nearby Bunbury. Other main riders included Andrew Schultz
and Cockburn’s Shaun Black and Bradley Atthis
All three mains were incident-packed with the first turn creating chaos as was the final tight hairpin corner where plenty of ‘hail mary’ passes were tried (most failed…)
Going into Main #3 Jamie Whelan held a 3 point advantage over Andrew Brooks and Cameron Ainger with Jaymin King a further point back. Ainger took the win but was not enough to bridge the point’s gap to Whelan who finished in second spot to take the overall by 3 points.
AA Men
A smaller than usual AA start list were missing the usual suspects
such as the Taylor brothers and Cale McCulloch. However this meant
that a couple of the up and coming AA contenders were able to
make a quality main field. With no semi final to rely on, the
heat races were on like Donkey Kong. Billy Hobbs had two unfortunate
crashes in the final turn to rule himself out while Harley Clements
took the step up from his A money win in Round 1 to the big dogs
with a steep learning curve. He will be better for the experience
and making mains very soon.
So the main field is James Dixon, Joseph Hey, Kane Gill, Blake Schofield, factory DK rider Ben Davis, Andrew Gillett, Tim Mores and Brock Murray.
Main 1 sees a heavy crash in turn 1 with all but Murray and Mores going down. The rest are scrambling for early points and are strewn out along the track while Murray easily takes the win and Tim Mores second. Main 2 and again another incident in turn 1 sees Ben Davis go down for the second time as does Andrew Gillett. This allows Kane Gill and Blake Schofield who got caught up in the first main mayhem to grab 1st and second to keep themselves in the running. Murray, who escaped incident free, slid into the 3 spot. So it’s the final AA main and Murray is looking good and has a 2 point buffer over Gill and Mores. Gate goes down and all go through turn 1 relatively unscathed. Murray is sitting pretty in 3rd with nearest rivals Mores and Gill back packing it. Ben Davis makes up for the previous two crashes with a win, Gillett in 2nd and Brock Murray in 3rd. This is enough to give Murray the overall win by 4 points and his first AA win in only his second main event appearance since his comeback. Tim Mores with a 5th in main 3 held on to overall second and Andrew Gillett claimed 3rd spot on the podium.
Round 3 moves back up to Perth with Rockingham hosting the next Super Series event on April 1st.

Round 2 of the 2007 WA Super Series were held over the weekend
at the picturesque Collie BMX Track, 220km south west of Perth
Matt Butterworth (WA, AUS) finished first in the 30+ Bruiser Cruisers after winning a tough main event by less than half a wheel from the fast finishing Wayne Green with Paul Throns and Trent Niemann in third and fourth respectively. In the 30+ Open class Matt shared equal points with Nathan Schmiedte going into the last round, but Schmiedte got the break and Matt couldn't bridge the gap so had to settle for second.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society ® Fighting Blood-Related
Cancers
Since its inception in 1949, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society® has been committed to finding cures for all blood-related cancers, but has not been able to effectively portray the breadth of its mission under a banner that emphasized a focus only on leukemia. Additionally, the Society is deeply concerned with the dramatic and unexplained rise in incidence rates of lymphoma during the last half of the 20th century. So on February 1, 2000, the Society unveiled a new name and logo. The new name, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society® , along with a tag line, Fighting Blood-Related Cancers, was crafted to clarify the diseases that the Society fights.
We`re the same organization with the same mission. But we want everyone with a connection to blood-related cancers - patients, physicians and supporters - to understand that we are committed to fighting all hematological malignancies, including leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.
The Society was further moved to implement the name change by a startling rise in lymphoma incidence rates. Statistics from the National Cancer Institute show that from the mid 70s into the 90s, lymphoma rates rose by more than 70 percent, which made it the third fastest rising cancer in the country during that period. Today 454,000 Americans have lymphoma. In 1999 alone an estimated 64,000 new cases were diagnosed. New cases of non-Hodgkin`s lymphoma are rising by 1.1 percent per year while death rates are rising by 1.8 percent each year.

Dr. Mark Sanders, Official Healthcare Provider of the Amp’d
Mobile Houston Supercross, Repairs and Returns to Competition
Top MX Rider Jeff Dement and BMX Pro Warwick Stevenson
Dement and Stevenson Recover from Upper Limb Injuries at Sanders Clinic and Prepare for Upcoming Competition Stronger than Ever
Houston – Known as the “MX and BMX Doc,” Dr.
Mark Sanders has become a vital “pit stop” for injured
action sports athletes from across the United States – with
Top Pro30 Racing great and top ranked MX World and AMA Motocross
Championship rider Jeff Dement among the most recent.
Dement, who recently injured his thumb during the Houston leg
of the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross series, underwent
surgery to repair both collateral ligaments in the thumb just
days later and is back on his training schedule planning to compete
again in only eight weeks.
With action sports heating up, so too is the schedule of Dr.
Mark Sanders of Sanders Clinic for Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports
Medicine. Just one week before Dement’s accident, Australia
native and BMX pro Warwick Stevenson made a detour to have Dr.
Sanders repair a severe distal radius fracture he sustained from
a crash during the ABA Sooner Nationals in Oklahoma.
Both athletes, who received treatment from Dr. Sanders for other
injuries in the past, are back to training and preparing for their
next event.
“Recovery has been great. Dr. Sanders isn’t just a doctor, he’s a real person – and he understands that you need to get back out there. It’s our well-being and our life. It’s how we put food on the table. His treatment and approach have made me stronger than ever,” said Warwick Stevenson.
A longtime motocross rider and cyclist himself, Dr. Sanders has continued to capture the attention of young athletes unable…and unwilling to sit out of competition. His immediate mobility approach to injury is the cornerstone of his practice – and the biggest difference between traditional medicine and that which patients receive at Sanders Clinic.
“It’s hard to go against what you’ve heard so often in the past, but when you see the difference between immediately moving your injured limb and long periods of immobilization, you recognize there’s no other way for an athlete,” said Jeff Dement.
“Dr. Sanders repaired my shoulder during last year’s Supercross and got me back in competition in just a few weeks. There was no question that he’d be the one to repair my thumb. He’s become a key part of my success as a rider,” added Dement.
Dr. Mark Sanders is listed among H Texas Magazine’s Top Docs for both 2004 and 2005, and he is featured among the Top Texas Healthcare Professionals in the 2006 Edition of Medicine Men of Texas – Legends, Innovators and Healers. He was recently named among Health & Fitness magazine’s Phenomenal Physicians and writes a health column for BMX Today.
Log onto www.sandersclinic.net to learn more about Dr. Sanders and his treatment options designed for the athlete.

Is it just me or have you also noticed that there has been a huge
shift from carbon/alloy race forks back to steel (chromoly) race
forks? If you look at the photos from the recent Boulder City
Nationals in Nevada you'll notice that many of the senior/pro
riders are now running chromoly forks.
I think there are several reasons for this - first & foremost would be safety. As the tracks (jumps) continue to get bigger safety is becoming of greater concern to the riders & steel offers greater peace of mind. Because of its higher tensile strength & when placed under extreme stress and/or force, steel will bend but won't snap or sheer off as some forks made from other materials are more inclined to do.
BMXers are by their very nature extremely weight conscious & in years past nothing could compare to the weight saving of carbon/alloy race forks... that is until now. Many brands of steel race forks are comparable in weight to their carbon/alloy counterparts & in some cases are actually lighter! This is because many of these steel race forks are butted to reduce weight & then go through a (post-weld) heat treating process for added strength. The end result is a safe but very lightweight steel race fork.
Another compelling reason for riders making the move back to chromoly race forks is cost. While chromoly race forks are arguably stronger & comparable in terms of weight with other race forks, they flat out kick carbon/alloy race forks' ass when it comes to price! And for those BMX families with more than one rider cost really is an issue.
So if you're looking for a strong, lightweight, & durable race fork that won't break the bank & will offer a truly smooth ride, I urge you to consider a chromoly race fork.

Queenslander Jared Graves (Toowoomba), got a clear run today in
the BMX UCI Oceania Round #7 in Canberra to win. The 24 year old
used his early lead to stay out of trouble and win his second
UCI race this year. Graves lead in the first straight and with
a long track by BMX standards he managed to retain the lead from
Billy Joliffe (Tamworth). Joliffe is coming back to form after
being the highest placed Australian at the World Championships
last year. Third was Khalen Young (Campbelltown, SYD) after passing
Daniel Johnstone (Terrigal) in the finishing straight.
Fellow Queenslanders were not so lucky with Wade Bootes, (Broadbeach, QLD) flipping at the gate and Kamakazi (Jimboomba, QLD) tangling with Alexander Cameron (Liverpool, SYD) in the first straight . Both riders crashed missing vital points.
Graves' win now elevates him to the top of the Oceania Ranking with New Zealander, Matthew Cameron just one point behind. Second placed, Billy Joliffe now moves up in rankings into a close third just one point behind Cameron.
With a national title just last month at the Downhill Mountain Bike Championships in Canberra. Graves has turned his attention to BMX in an attempt to make the World Championship team in BMX and then perhaps an Olympic berth in Beijing.
Elite women’s racing was dominated by New Zealand’s Sarah Walker. The 18 year old impressed by a strong lead in the final race of the women’s three races. Over the three races she took out the overall points with leading Australian rider, Tanya Bailey (Perth) placing second. Third on points was National Champion, Krystal Cranfield (Gladstone) showing a strong return to form. Two time World Mountain Cross Champion, Jill Kintner (USA) had her first BMX race in Australia [this season] and did not disappoint with a fourth place.
Walker remains a clear leader in the elite women's UCI Oceania ranking with 73 points. Australia's Melissa Mankowski (Moranbah) is second on 50 points and Tanya Bailey third on 43 points.
Canberra's Caroline Buchanan dominated in the final of the Junior Women's race and maintains her lead in the UCI Oceania Round with Ziggy Callan in second. In the Junior Men's division, Joshua Webb (Terrigal) won with Nerang's Steven Janssen taking himself into second and both take the first and second spots respectivley in the UCI Oceania Rankings with just 1 point separating them.

Bawls Guarana to sponsor NBL riders Matt Pohlkamp, Rachel “Thunder”
Smith and Tony Lehman
MIAMI, FL – BAWLS Guarana, the Official Energy Drink of the NBL, today announced a sponsorship deal with NBL Elite riders Matt Pohlkamp and Rachel “Thunder” Smith and NBL Expert rider Tony Lehman for the remainder of the 2007 NBL season. Matt, Tony and Rachel will rely on the refreshing, caffeinated taste of BAWLS Guarana as they race their way to an NBL championship!
“BAWLS Guarana is thrilled to sponsor Matt, Rachel and Tony for our first BMX season,” said CEO Hoby Buppert. “They have been racing for a long time and continue to get better every year. We are definitely proud that they will wear our colors!”
Matt is an Elite rider from Ohio and has been a part of the sport for the past 19 years. He first began racing through the influence of the older, “cool” kids in his neighborhood and is currently ranked among the top five in the NBL Elite “I’m really excited to ride for BAWLS Guarana,” said Pohlkamp. “BAWLS took the initiative to sponsor the NBL and it’s awesome to receive the support for the sport that we love.”
Rachel, currently ranked third among the NBL Elite, is another Ohio-based BMX veteran who started racing at age 3. Rachel also supports the growth of BMX racing by hosting clinics for new riders in her area. “Thanks to BAWLS Guarana, I now have a great tasting energy drink every time I step off the track,” said Smith. “I am psyched that they are supporting the NBL and are willing to share their product throughout the national series.”
Tony, a native of Orlando, Fla., has been racing for more than 20 years and began his career in racing through the influence of his friends. As an amateur, he is currently ranked 2nd on his 35 and over Expert class and 1st on his 35-39 Cruiser class. Tony is a two-time President’s Cup Champion and is now working to earn a world title rank. “I wanted BAWLS as my sponsor because the BAWLS team is great and they just want to have fun. That’s what it should be all about,” said Lehman.
Under their sponsorships, Matt, Tony and Rachel will stay energized with unlimited access to BAWLS Guarana products – so be sure to catch them speeding down the track! They will also represent their favorite energy drink in style with exclusive, custom BAWLS Guarana helmets painted by DB Customs. The blue and chrome helmets, unveiled last week at the Lake Mead Nationals, are painted to resemble a BAWLS Guarana can.
As the Official Energy Drink of the NBL, BAWLS Guarana has exclusive sampling and track signage rights at all NBL-sanctioned national races for 2007. The brand will also launch a cooperative marketing effort with the NBL through a limited edition run of BAWLS Guarana CompUSA packaging dedicated to BMX racing, as well as a nationwide contest, set to launch in April.
About BAWLS
BAWLS is the brainchild of entrepreneur Hoby Buppert, CEO of Hobarama, LLC, who named the beverage for the caffeinated “bounce” the drink packs. Widely distributed to local super markets, convenience stores (7-Eleven), Target Stores, CompUSA stores, BMX tracks, paintball fields and gaming venues; BAWLS is a premium, non-alcoholic, carbonated beverage made from the guarana berry harvested in the Amazonian Rainforest. The caffeine found in BAWLS Guarana contains the same amount of caffeine as coffee and nearly three times that of traditional sodas due to a naturally occurring form of the stimulant found in the guarana berry. BAWLS’ unique refreshing flavor tastes like a citrus infused cream soda and its popularity continues to grow over a variety of different sectors including financial institutions, the fashion industry, technology businesses, military bases, extreme sports and college campuses. The South Australian State Championships were the first major
event the bmxultra.com crew have attended since Track Attack.
Only two of the riders were in attendance at the new Cross Keys
track, Shane Jenkins and Scooby Guyers.
Shane Jenkins (Vic, AUS) finished second in both the 30+ Masters and 30+ Masters cruiser class to Karl Mustchin. The pair have been racing each other since the mid 80's and with the introduction of the 30+ Masters class could be reunited on a more regular basis.
Scooby Guyers (SA, AUS) shared 2 wins a piece with Aaron Wheatland in the 17-18 cruiser going into the last round, but Wheatland got the break and Scooby couldn't bridge the gap so had to settle for second. In 17 expert class Scooby made the clean sweep taking the #1 home.
Brett MaliC (SA, AUS) has moved on from the bmxultra.com crew, we wish him luck.
2007 bmxultra.com/One jerseys will be available soon. The design is finalised and the team jerseys are with the printers. We'll post photos when they arrive.
