There is significant interest from Old School bmxers looking to return to the tracks in Victoria so we have teamed up with Kuwahara to present the bmxultra.com/Kuwahara Old School Gathering. The gathering will be held at the Park Orchards BMX track on Saturday November 24th, which is the first day of the Victorian State Championships. Our webmaster, Shane Jenkins, will also be celebrating his 25th consecutive Victorian Championships, a significant milestone in BMX racing.
Bike show
In conjunction with the gathering we will have an old school and rare bike display. Kuwahara have supplied a special, limited edition Laserlite retro replica frame as a prize for the bike show. That's right, if you bring your old school or even rare bike to put on display for the afternoon you will go in the draw to win one of these awesome Kuwahara retro frames.

Victorian A Pro Kyle Horton headed to the Northern Classic on Sunday full of confidence after his Pro Open win a week earlier. After the motos were over Kyle was equal top qualifier and managed to get through the semi finals without too much trouble. When it came to the main Kyle was in the mix with 5 AA pros and 2 former state elite championships, Kyle got caught up in an incident in the last corner that caused half the field to go down but still managed 6th. Kyle also won the 15-16 cruiser class with a clean sweep.
Congratulations Kyle.

The ABA 2007 season is down to the wire with just the Fall Nationals, the last event before the ABA Grands. What better way to make 2007 an even more spectacular year of ABA racing, than moving the event to the Disney Wild World of Sports center? For what may have been one of the best ABA events of 2007, the ABA did a great job with moving the traditionally West Coast Fall nationals to the East. The Disney family took BMX in for the 3 day national event and it looks like the ABA Disney cup will be around for a long time. The Pro battle heated up, as Kyle Bennett needed to bring home 3 wins to have a shot at the ABA #1 title that may have looked like it was up for grabs, since Randy Stumpfhauser broke his collar bone just 2 weeks ago. Kyle has had an incredible year, with winning the World and NBL #1 titles, but if he could win the ABA #1 title as well, it would make history.
Kyle Bennett has been unstoppable for the past few ABA and NBL events and the Disney Cup would once again showcase his skill and speed, as well as determination at winning a 3rd title in 2007. As Day 1 kicked off, Kyle looked to be the favorite, as he won every moto and semi event he was in. As the Main event kicked off, Kyle was the Pro to watch, as he showed everyone at Disney the fastest way around the track, all 3 main events. On Saturday, it was a repeat of the day before, as once again, Kyle was untouchable in the AA class, winning all 3 main events once again. On Sunday, Kyle started the main events off with a win on lap one, and on lap two and three he would win up loosing his first 2 laps of the weekend, but would still come away with 2nd overall for the day. Kyle now looks forward to the last Pro points event, the ABA Race of Champions and Grands, where he has a shot at winning the ABA #1 Pro title. Kyle's sponsors include: Free Agent, KHS, Fly Racing, Bombshell, www.Go211.com, Sun Rims, Shimano, UGP, Kenda, Thomson, S & M bars, ODI, ORP, Powerbar, Cyto Sport, and BMXpros.com.
Cristian Becerine was looking to add to his great ABA season as well as he was going into the ABA Falls in 7th place in the overall ABA Pro points. On Day one, Cristian was in the main event and was looking great for a top 3 finish, but a crash in the last main event would keep him to 5th overall. On Day 2, Cristian would come back to the AA Pro main event and this time finish on the podium, with a 3rd place finish overall. Cristian moves into the top 5 in the ABA Pro points and looks to win another top 3 overall year end number come ABA grands time. Cristian's Sponsors include: Free Agent, KHS, Fly Racing, SINZ, Kenda, THE Products, ODI, Sun Ringle, Shimano, Powerbar, Cyto Sport, S & M bars, OGIO, Thomson Seat Posts, and BMXpros.com

The Northern Park BMX Club quite literally blew Victorian riders away on Sunday with the inaugural Great Northern Classic. The weather was ok, a bit of sun now and then, no rain, but extremely strong head winds into the second and final straights. The track was super fast but it hasn't changed in a couple of years. Riders that had been there before still liked it and riders that were discovering it for the first time were loving it. It was the long, tight and technical third straight that was getting the riders excited.
The day started a few minutes behind schedule because of the combining of a few classes with the huge number of last minute entries. With money up for A and AA pro, but only 5 AA's in attendance, the club and it's sponsors decided to combine them with the 14 A pros to put on the best possible racing for the spectators and give the sponsors more bang for buck. With the Victorian State Championships coming up with would mean more competitive racing for both the A and AA class riders. It would also mean that 3 extra A pro riders would walk away with money for the day. Remembering that the Northern Park BMX Club is building the Great Northern Classic to be one of the premier races in the state it was a win-win-win situation for the sponsors, riders and the action hungry crowd.
One of the classes to watch was the 13 boys, it looked like it would be out of Steven Gedye, Bodi Turner or Madison Denholm, it was just a matter on how they would cross the line. It was Gedye who took line honours ahead of Turner and Denholm in third. That's going to be a hot race to watch at the State Titles.
The Northern Park BMX Club ran the first Open Wheel class in Australia a year prior. This year there were three open wheel classes on offer. There weren't enough women for the 30& Over Women's Open wheel, but the club will try again with that class in the future. There were 6 riders in the 30 & Over open wheel class. When the racing was done it was Shaun Collins who took the win ahead of Simon Trewin in second and Craig Walczuk in third. There were 6 riders in the 40 & Over Open wheel class. Mark Dobson took the clean sweep ahead of Greg Siinmaa and Derek Harris finished third.
Four riders in the Pro women Erin Anderson notched up another win just edging out Caroline Sabotka, Tiffany Toth had to settle for third.
Nineteen riders in Pro Open class 16 chances to win some money, 12 to make the semi and just 8 would progress to the main, oh and let's not forget the 1 Canadian visitor Mischa Partridge (who was just content to stay upright in the heavy winds). There was no surprise that all the AA pros made the top 8, along with Kyle Horton, Danny Galea and Simon Anderson. Luke Pretlove seemed to have the track worked out and took the win he was followed closely by Jonathan Hoare until the last corner were he went down and took half the field with him. Olivier Hoarau slipped into second, Michael Chasteauneuf third, and Danny Galea in fourth. Then Simon Anderson, Kyle Horton, Tom Siinmaa and Jonathan Hoare.
Josh Hastings won the consolation final from start to finish with Aaron Jeffree taking second and John Barford in third.
The club would like to thank all those riders who supported the meeting and the volunteers who helped out on the day, let's not forget the awesome sponsors who provided huge support.
If you missed out on a number plate on the day, there was a little mix up and all non-money class riders should have received one, please contact Terry 0400 085 336 or 9436 6260.

bmxultra.com press release
Two members of the bmxultra.com team hit up the Great Northern Classic at Northern Park (The home of the 1998 UCI World Cup) on Sunday. The track was fast and it was warm, but there were very strong winds all day long.
bmxultra.com world team rider Shane Jenkins competed in the A pro class, which was combined with AA. Manualling through a jump the wind caught the bike and he took a big digger in the second moto, cutting up his elbow and bruising his shoulder and hip, but wasn't prepared to call it quits. After being patched up by first aid and purchasing a replacement set of elbow guards from BMX Mad he managed enough points to make the consolation final. In the main he was off to a good start but was in the wrong place at the wrong time, twice, getting held up and could only manage a 7th. After the event Shane went to the doctor and had his elbow stitched (that was despite wearing elbow guards), he'll be back next weekend to race at Warrnambool.
Team bmxultra.com co-sponsored rider Brandon Bullows was also in the A pro class. Bad luck with mechanical problems in the first 2 motos ended his chance to make the mains.
The bmxultra.com team is proudly supported by One Bicycles, Supercross BMX, Answer BMX, Dirt Designs, ActionSportsDepot.net, and Tektro brakes.

I have heard it said that "people who still ride with flat pedals aren't serious about BMX racing". I beg to differ. The legend, Greg Hill, is organising a flat pedal only 7 race series that will see $20,000 for the first 6 rounds and $100,000 in prize money at final round for elite men. There are a bunch of other classes and more $ up for grabs in other classes. You to the math, it's whole lotta money.
If that aint serious enough for you I dont know what is.

Another exciting year of Bring A Buddy has ended and left in its dust another successful season. With almost 2000 buddies recruited and over 500 new members, this year will definitely be one for the record books.
This year the NBL offered a Grand Prize of the Ultimate BMX Bedroom which got many off to an excellent start on their recruiting. Kelley Cottrill was our ‘Ultimate’ winner by recruiting the most new members to the NBL and will be outfitted with new, custom one-of-kind bedroom necessities making her room the Ultimate BMX Bedroom. Throughout the season the NBL awarded 36 complete bikes from our sponsors Intense BMX, MCS, and GT to our best recruiters and supporting tracks around the country, about 20 Vigor helmets, and over $50,000 in prizes. Even our buddies went home with amazing prizes, just for participating, including magazine subscriptions to BMX Plus and BMXWorld, T.H.E numberplates, and NBL t-shirts.
The Bring A Buddy program was such a success, the NBL will be offering a Bring A Buddy Winter program for all tracks who will be extending their season. All tracks that will be running in the months of November-March are welcome to participate. The NBL will be awarding many of the same prizes listed above like trips to Woodward, helmets, and more bikes, in an effort to recruit even more new members to the exciting world of BMX.
The NBL is working hard to build a network of programs that will help capture the interest generated by the sport’s first appearance at the 2008 Olympic Games and ultimately turn that excitement into more competition. Psykopath Industries press release
The Psykovan celebrated its 100 thousand miles of travelling to and from races. Most recently, the van made 2 trips to So Cal and one to Vegas.
First it was the Redline cup finals west and then the ABA So Cal National and finally to Vegas for the UCI North American Qualifier. These races were awesome.
The Redline Cup held in Ontario had a pretty cool pro section, this was a killer track. Patty Metzger got another # 1 plate to her collection. Psykopath pros ruled the Redline Cup Saturday, the podium was filled with our riders. Alan Hudson won 1st place Saturday (Alan will be turning AApro real soon), Jesse Langland got a third on Saturday - he got his first pro win on Sunday. Congratulations Jesse! Jesse's hard work is paying off! Evan Steinberg was Mr. Consistency, he grabbed 2 second places throughout the weekend, look for Evan to be a real treat in pro ranks next season. Now that Evan will be living in Arizona he should have good training buddies. Congratulations all our Team Members who Won at the Redline cup!
Next we headed to San Bernardino - home of the Orange Show BMX. A smooth track as usual, volunteers did a great job! Everyone loved the track! We saw plenty of action! Omar Sawyer has been on fire lately and he proved it. Wining one of the pro mains. Watch out for Omar he’s on a mission!
Jesse was present after his first pro win, he was looking to repeat his performance again. But, on Sunday he ended up with a fourth and a second. Our Argentinian import Damian Lopez had a good weekend grabbing 2 seconds and a third. Overall the Team rocked the house!
Next stop was UCI Boulder City. Elite World #7 Agusto Castro made the trip all the way from Bogota, Columbia. Agusto had some fast laps but could not make the main. Argentinian Elite rider Damian Lopez was also there and came up short in making the mains. Elite women's Pro Erika Short was seen leading motos all weekend, She ended up with a top main event finish on Saturday and a slip in a semi on Sunday which kept her out of the main event. However in Elite Women's Open Class she took first place. Jesse Lanagland moved up from Junior to Elite Men and seemed comfortable in his new class. However he was able to make an Elite open main event. Carl Renowitzky had some Vegas luck and was able to make the Elite Open on Sunday. The hightlight of the weekend was Alan Hudson. Alan won both days in Elite Open and at the last minute Psykopath's team manager bought him a UCI license and signed him up and Alan almost made the UCI main that day. Alan scored a very important UCi point for TEAM USA. Amateur highlights were litte Mike Anderson Jr who scored a pair of seconds. Anthony Renowitzky took first place in his class on Sunday. Dani Blackmore was out front all weekend and the rest of the amateur crew for the most part made their mains and had a great weekend of racing. I would like to thank our sponsors Menace Apparel, Cashforhouses.tv, Sponsorhouse.com and the Funky Monkey Bar and Grill.

John Walczuk, former BMX Victoria administrator, board member and long time supporter of BMX in general, yesterday lost his long battle with cancer. He was involved in the sport for nearly 20 years either officiating or doing administration work for BMX Victoria. He would always be found at a race meeting either standing on a corner as a flag marshal or in the scorers tent doing the scoring at local, state and national level. He will be sadly missed.

Most people that know me know that I am a charitable person and when I can I try to help people out. I received some mail from Scot Breithaupt, the OM of BMX himself, who is a good friend of mine. He hasn't had such a great year but sounds positive and has managed to beat one of the charges against him, and he's helping people learn to read, do math and study for their high school education. Actually, he told me he's writing a screenplay on the SE Bus tours.
Scot has been accepted into the Delancey Street Foundation, now he just needs to flood the District Attorney with emails of support to convince them to sentence him to Delancey Street which has a highly successful rehab program.
This is where you come in. Scot really could do with your help. He's an addict not a criminal, he would be better off in Delancey Street than rotting away in prison. You may not know Scot, but if you ride an SE or ride a BMX bike, he has influenced you more than you think.
What he needs is a short letter of support and request that he's sent to Delancey Street for rehabilitation.
Subject: To D.D.A. Jamie Adams - Victorville Courts
Sent it to: da@da.sbcounty.gov
CC: chuck@seacor.us.
Click this link it will start the email for you: da@da.sbcounty.gov
Scot is trying to raise some money for an Attorney and has autographed a few things and sent them with the letter. Now I could go straight to ebay with this, and maybe I still will, but if you are genuinely interested in some history and helping Scot out email me at webmaster@bmxultra.com to make an offer, please don't be offended if it's refused, you will still have an opportunity to win the item at auction. 100% of the funds will be sent straight to Scot Jr.

Come see the new layout of Chehaw, with its entirely new design and awesome new dual-rhythm section.
Many top teams will be making the trip to Georgia to earn some early points for the season. The Track Stars national team is pulling forward with a large gap over Intense BMX/Bizzarro/JRA following round two of the series. The Team NBL National Champions, VBS-Kenda, have a strong hold over the Commitment Mortgage/Standard Team. With more action to come, watch as VBS makes their way through a second winning season. Be prepared for a battle of the teams in the Southeast territory.
The upcoming season will be host to a lot of exciting and history making events. The NBL announces several new and improved modifications to the national class and point structure for the 2008 season. Added to the schedule are classes like the new 41 and Over group, which will prove to be a battle of the ages. The over populated 17-24 classes have undergone some heavy sectioning, adding groups like 17-18, 19-25, 26-34, and 35-40 to the men’s classes.
Receiving great reviews this year, the NBL will also continue the use of the random gate with in the series. The random gate is a new system that requires quick reactions and adds a random delay before the drop of the gate, allowing riders to be released. This will be a new standard at all NBL races, hoping to provide a more level playing field to all our competitors.
Be sure to visit the Parks at Chehaw BMX for a weekend packed with racing and fun! For more information on the Fall Classic, visit www.chehawbmx.com or www.nbl.org. Bike Media press release
New Zealand dominated the BMX Oceania round in Hamilton on Sunday. Top kiwi riders, Marc Willers and Sarah Walker, won the third round of the UCI BMX Pacific-Oceania Ranking Series on Sunday despite strong winds.
Even with a good start by Australia’s Luke Madill from an outside lane was not enough to edge out Willers (Cambridge). Willers was not challenged to the finish line. Brisbane’s Jamie Gray (Beenleigh) placed second with Madill in third. Saturday’s winner Jared Graves (Toowoomba) finished in sixth and Kamakazi (Nerang) placed seventh.
Willers pleased the home crowd by winning his first race back in New Zealand since winning the final round of the Supercross in France last weekend.
“It’s good to be home and have the local support after the craziness of last weekend. This was my second win in a UCI round, good to get it under my belt against the strong opposition from the Aussies,” said Willers.
A crash on the first corner in the elite women’s race saw Walker, Australian Nicole Callisto (Wanneroo) and New Zealand downhillers, Vanessa Quin, come through unscathed to take the podium places..
In the junior men’s race a switch of placings from the day before saw New Zealand’s Kurt Pickard win with Australia’s Steven Janssen and Sam Willoughby coming second and third respectively.
Australia’s Lauren Reynolds (Bunbury) completed a successful weekend in New Zealand with first placing in the Junior Women just ahead of kiwi rider Victoria Hill. Cherie Simpson (Nerang) finished in third place.

BMX Australia press release
Three of Australia’s top BMX riders Jared Graves (Toowoomba), Luke Madill (Penrith) and Kamakazi (Gold Coast) took the top three places in the first New Zealand UCI Oceania Ranking Series in Hamilton today. The Australian trio dominated the race with Graves leading the field into the first turn.
Even with the lead, Graves could not relax.
“It was windy on the second straight and I was worried about someone getting into my slipstream,” admitted Graves.
Kamakazi was in second place in the early stages however a move in the final straight saw Madill move himself into second place.
New Zealand’s top rider, Marc Willers (Cambridge), fresh back from his win at the Supercross final in France last weekend finished in fifth. Willers was narrowly beaten by fellow kiwi, Jason Kelly (Hamilton) making it into fourth position.
World Champion Sarah Walker (Kawerau) from New Zealand continued her successful form taking first place with Australia’s former World Junior Champion Nicole Callisto (Perth) in second. Three Australian’s Krystal Cranfield (Gladstone), Ziggy Callan (Lillydale, VIC) and Tanya Bailey (Perth) finished in third, fourth and fifth consecutively.
In the junior men Australian riders dominated again with Sam Willoughby (Adelaide) and Steven Janssen (Nerang) in first and second respectively. Josh Callan (Melbourne) finished seventh.
Australian junior women Lauren Reynolds (Byford, WA) took from win from two kiwi riders. Alexandra Williams and Victoria Hill (New Plymouth), made it into second and third place respectively. Nerang rider Cherie Simpson made it into fourth.

The third annual BSX event is set to go ahead on Monday January 21st, which is the Monday following the UCI race that kicks off the Track Attack series in Melbourne. Mark your calendars.
The BSX is an event to add some fun to an intense week of racing while raising money for the Royal Children's Hospital and the Kinglake West CFA. We have raised nearly $10,000 for the RCH over the past two years!
bsx2007 DVDs
We have bsx2007 DVDs for sale for $20 plus postage. If you are interested in purchasing one email webmaster@bmxultra.com for details. We also have a couple of the t-shirts left over from the last event in limited sizes, they were $15. If you buy a t-shirt with your DVD or more than one DVD postage is free.
Entries
Interest in BSX is slowly building momentum, which seems to happen each year and we end up with around 40 competitors. By adding your name to the list it's more of an expression of interest, you don't have to race come race day.
Here's our entry list so far:
30 & Over Open Wheel |
Pro Open Men |
Pro Women
|
We'd like to get an idea of who's interested in racing the event. We have three classes on offer Pro Open Men, Pro Open Women, and 30 & Over open wheel. If you're in, email your name, state and which class you would like to race to webmaster@bmxultra.com.

Working bee/riding session
We have another session on Saturday 27th of October. If you are interested in coming up or if you have any questions just email webmaster@bmxultra.com. If you can't make the 27th, or you can and just can't get enough we will be riding the track after racing on the 28th as well.
Volunteers
We won't have the fantastic people from ManageSoft helping out this coming BSX, which means we will need to drum up some extra volunteers, if you are interested in helping out, please drop us an email.

ABA BMX press release
The ABA (American Bicycle Association) has signed an agreement with the Deschutes County Fairgrounds to host the 2008 ABA BMX Great Northwest Nationals bicycle motocross (BMX) race. The event, presented by Team BMX Oregon and the Oregon Sports Authority, will be held at the Hooker Creek Event Center in Redmond, Oregon April 4-6, 2008.
Thousands of BMX racers of all ages and abilities will compete in multiple events as part of the ABA's national series, which spans across the U.S. and Canada.
"The Great Northwest Nationals has been a staple of the ABA BMX National Series. The move to the Hooker Creek Event Center at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds is going to be amazing. This entire facility is spectacular and the arena will be one of the best we will visit all year. This location could not have been obtained without the support of Tracy Stephens and Mick Parsons from Smith Rock BMX, Lance Maguire of Emerald Valley BMX and Arran Gimba of the Oregon Sports Authority," said John David, director of new track development of the ABA.
The Hooker Creek Event Center, a multi-purpose indoor arena, is the largest of the buildings at the Fairgrounds that constitutes some 279,000 square feet of space under one roof. The complex has hosted over 100 sporting and entertainment events each year. The variety of events includes, but not limited to, professional sports, concerts, monster trucks, and supercross.
"BMX is an emerging sport in the Northwest, and it's wonderful that we are able to bring this premier event to Central Oregon," said Drew Mahalic, chief executive officer of the Oregon Sports Authority. "We're ecstatic that Oregonians will get a golden opportunity to see some of the most spectacular BMX races in the country for free."
The Great Northwest Nationals mark a significant accomplishment for the non-profit Oregon Sports Authority, which is launching its first model chapter in Central Oregon for the purpose of enhancing the region's economy and quality of life by attracting sports events, and supporting area youth sports programs.

ABA press release
Gilbert, Arizona—The American Bicycle Association (ABA) Fall Nationals/Disney Cup bicycle motocross (BMX) is being held October 26-28, 2007 at Walt Disney World Resort. The events will be held at Disney’s Pop Century resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida and will feature the excitement of top professional BMX racers in one of the final events on the 15-stop ABA BMX PRO Tour.
The event will feature competitors from across the U.S. and Europe, Canada, Australia and Japan. It’s being hosted by Disney’s Wide World of Sports, which is expected to host several BMX events over the next five years.
The ABA has structured the Disney events as family adventures, allowing BMX racers and their families to enjoy the Walt Disney World Resort and race an ABA National event. Walt Disney World Resort will provide a unique location that has never before been experienced in the sport of BMX. The sport of BMX is one of the very first “Action Sports” to host a national level event at Disney.
“Since we announced that ABA had reached an agreement with Disney’s Wide World of Sports to hold a national event, the enthusiasm and excitement could not have been better. Parents and racers have expressed their interest in participating in a race that combines the love of BMX with the Disney magic!” exclaimed Clayton John, President of the ABA.
The ABA’s professional track designers and construction crew began on-site preparations of the BMX track earlier this month. With loads of dirt brought in specifically for the BMX track, and countless hours of pre-preparation, Disney’s Pop Century resort will become home to Florida’s newest world-class BMX track, at least temporarily. The dirt course is approximately 1100 feet long and combines jumps, obstacles and bermed corners. Racers riding specially prepared BMX bicycles compete on the course separated by age and skill level. The prizes include trophies for amateurs and cash prizes for the pros; however, the ultimate reward is the points that are earned. The valuable points are accrued throughout the year and ultimately earn riders prized number plates, the best being a coveted #1.
“We are excited to host this ABA event as BMX racing is one of the hottest emerging sports in America, making it a perfect fit among the growing list of nationally-recognized sports events taking place at Disney,” said John Bisignano, Manager of Account Development for Disney Sports Attractions. “Having this action sports event represents another step in our commitment to broaden the variety of prestigious sports events we're able to offer athletes and guests at Disney, particularly Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex, which is the leading sports venue for amateur and professional sports in the country.”
About Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex:
Opened in 1997 at Walt Disney World, Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex is the preeminent sports venue for amateur and professional sports in the United States. The sprawling 220-acre state-of-the-art complex features the Milk House, a 30,000-square-foot field house which seats 5,000 for basketball; the 9,500-seat Ballpark at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex; and the Hess Sports Fields, which include multiple baseball, softball and soccer fields. In addition, the complex has 10 tennis courts, including a stadium court, and a track and field complex. The complex is home to more than 180 amateur and professional sports events each year, including the NFL Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp, the Major League Baseball Atlanta Braves spring training and the Tampa Bay Rays regular-season series, the NBA Pre-Draft Camp, the Pop Warner Super Bowl and the AAU National Championship events. The complex is the centerpiece of Disney's Wide World of Sports, which includes 81 holes of golf among five golf courses, including the site of the PGA TOUR's prestigious Children’s Miracle Network Classic, the Richard Petty Driving Experience, the Walt Disney World Marathon, BASS fishing excursions, plus Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon, the two most popular water parks in the United States, and a variety of sports and recreation activities such as boating, fishing, parasailing and surfing.

There is no doubt that the ECI trade show was more about showing off the latest complete bikes they will have in stock. They supply S&M, Avent and One Bicycles frames and accessories too, but didn't have any of those on display. They told me they were out of stock of the One's and the new Avent TR7 that I was keen to check out.
One of the other stand outs were the Sinz Stealth forks, personally I don't like the looks of them, but then I don't like the looks of any of the market leading carbon forks, maybe I am just too old school. It's not the fact they are carbon, I dig the carbon texture and am quite fine with the technology, but the shape of them is just a little odd. The Stealth fork legs appear to be alloy carbon wrapped, but looking further they are an alloy crown and drop outs with hand layered carbon fiber legs, time will tell if they are built for race or show.
Alienation is a new product that ECI have picked up. A whole new range of rims and seats. Each rim is made with a different purpose in mind, including a race specific rim. We were told there may be limited colours brought out, so keep an eye out for those if you are sick of black or chrome. Oh and these guys are putting the sexy back into seats too, check them out at www.alienationbmx.com
That about wraps it up, you should start seeing these products at a track or a store near you any time now.

The BAgear 4X Round 1 & 2 of the MTBA National Series 2007-2008
Last minute news
It’s going to be another huge year at the Monster Mountain X track at Sydney Olympic Park for the baGEAR Round 1 of the MTBA 4X National Series – and that’s not just because this year we have twice the racing with Round 2 on the Sunday!
With a sunny 29 degree average predicted for the weekend, we’re again looking forward to some great racing at the Homebush site. Again Bicycling Australia via their BAgear brand have contributed cash prizemoney, this will be distributed across both rounds for the Elite Men & Open Women’s categories.
The Track
Is about to go through the final stages of preparation. Australia’s leading duo in 4X track design and building – Brett Barnes and Geoff Cartwright – will be polishing the course with it’s final surfacing over the coming days ready for the weekend. Brett and Geoff tell us that the track will be in the best condition it's ever been for the race weekend.
BMX and more
Riders should also be aware that Saturday morning will mark the opening of the Sydney Olympic Park Monster BMX facility, which now shares the same site for the 4X. BMX riders keen to race the 4X event should be aware that they can upgrade to an MTBA licence for only $36, assuming they have more than 3 months left on their current BMXA licence and they bring their membership card to the event.
MTBA have also supported less regular riders by making a ‘day licence’ for this event last for BOTH rounds, one $15 licence will cover riders for the whole weekend. We at BrightOrangeEvents have also offered riders wanting to ride in both rounds extra value, discounting the entire weekend fee by 15% for riders racing both days. Riders can enter online at www.brightorangeevents.com before the weekend (methods are available for pre-entry with or without a credit card). There will be a late fee applicable to entries on the weekend ($10 for 1 Round, $15 for both Rounds), so we encourage riders to enter before the weekend! Online entries will stay open until 6 pm on Friday 19th October.
Free Parking!
As part of the Festival of Cycling, we’re also happy to announce that the Sports Development Manager of Sydney Olympic Park will be making parking free for all competitors this year! P5 Pod C – the closest carpark to the venue – will be open for all competitors to park for free on both days.
Schedule
The schedule for both days is the same: registration will be open from 7:30 am to 10:30 am. Practice (for registered riders only) will be available from 9:00 am to Midday. Heats will be from 1 pm to 3:30 pm, and Finals will be at 4 pm for riders who qualify. Presentation ceremonies will follow finals, with anticipated time for these being 5 pm.
STOP PRESS – Under 13 Category: Due to popular demand, not least from the many BMX riders keen to bring their MTNX bikes and compete on the ‘other track’, we’ve decided to add an Under-13s category. This won’t be a National Series category, but it will be recognised on the podium on the day, and there will be some small product prizes on offer for this category too.

Elite Cycle Imports import a lot of fantastic BMX race products by companies like Profile, S&M, Sun Ringle, Intense, Kuwahara, THE, TufNeck, Bombshell, ACS, Avent, One Bicycles, Dirt Designs, Tangent, Sinz and a whole lot more, but you get the idea. They pretty much have the race crowd covered.
When they show off their latest offerings I do my best to get a long and check it all out, yes, yes kid in a candy store and all that. Last Thursday they had their first show at the HQ in Melbourne before heading off across the country to showcase all the latest products to the resellers.
I was greeted at the door by the knowledgeable Paul Knox who took me on the tour, Paul knows that I am only interested in race so he pointed out the Intense and Kuwahara street range as we walked past.
First stop was the Intense 2008 range. Intense are offering a high end complete bike, built up with a Podium frame, carbon Sinz Stealth forks, Shimano Saint cranks and a whole bunch of Sinz, THE and Intense parts. This isn't just the pro model, oh no, you can get a team build for every frame size in the pro line. Fron Jnr Pro to Pro XXL and Pro cruiser or Pro Cruiser +. Also with a choice of colours of either Flat Black or Flast Silver. The Sabot complete bikes are still available too in a huge range of sizes and a change in the colours. There's a red, black and the new zebra (black and white) finish. THE have even made a helmet to match the frame, I just think they should refrain from markting those things in Africa, hunters may mistake bmxers for local game. Oh and fans on 16 inch bikes will be happy to know that there is a 16 inch intense, which looks pretty damn long too.
For more on the lastest from Intense check out www.intensebmx.com
From there it's on to the new Kuwahara bikes. I have a soft spot for the Kuwa's since I did a review on the Laserlite team model. I know they ride well and are pretty well spec'd. For 2008 there appears to be little difference, on the surface. The colours have switched around a little with the two colours, black is now at the front of the frame and white at the back. Instead of the 7005 tubing they are now using 6061 series tubing for the frame. All the frames in the laserlite range have the hydroform downtube and internal headset. The team, pro and pro24 also have hydroformed seatstays. As per last year there are mostly Funn components, Sun rims, Maxxis tires and sealed bearing cassette hubs front and rear. This is a straight out of the box race bike. The only thing that looked a little off to me was the bars on the cruiser. They looked more like 20 inch handlebars. Kuwahara put some pretty cool Funn pedals on the bikes last year with awesome grip, but since most people just take them off and put clips on they have down spec's the pedals.
In addition to the Laserlite range is a more entry level series called the Nova series. It still has a 6061 series alloy frame, which looks a lot like the 2006 Kuwahara without the internal headset. These are very nice bikes at a nice price and could well see more people in the streets riding an affordable race bike over a street bike. Could this lead to growth in the sport? I guess we will have to wait and see. Kuwahara havent updated their site yet, so no link to point you at there, sorry.
From there it's onto parts. The S&M XLT race forks were my next stop, actually I made a few stops there through the night. They dont have the built in stem lock that the Pitchforks have, so you would have to buy a seperate headlock or put one of those removable star nuts in there. These are lighter than the Pitchfork, and as far as I am concerned have better graphics too. Oh and they are compatible with both the integrated headsets and standard a-head.
Well that's all I can fit in for today come back for more tomorrow.
Don't forget to check out the photos here.

bmxultra.com press release
Three members of the bmxultra.com team hit up the Cash Dash at Oakleigh on Sunday.
bmxultra.com world team rider Shane Jenkins took his cruiser for a spin in the 30 & Over open wheel class. After a high speed crash at the end of the first straight in qualifying with Craig Walczuk and Glenn Suridge, Jenkins was the only rider of the three that was able to continue racing for the day (we hope to see Craig and Glenn back on their bikes soon), who said the bigger they are the harder they fall? After dusting himself off Shane went on to take 4th in the main.
Team bmxultra.com co-sponsored riders Brandon (11-14 voucher class) and Jamie Bullows (30 & Over open wheel) also did well. Brandon finished 3rd while Jamie slotted into 5th behind team mate Jenkins.
The bmxultra.com team is proudly supported by One Bicycles, Supercross BMX, Answer BMX, Dirt Designs, ActionSportsDepot.net, and Tektro brakes.

There is a whole lot more, and we will get to that in a quick report soon, but for now check out the photos.

What's going on with pro racing in Victoria right now? The Eastfield Experience aside, there are very few A Pro events and not a great deal of cash up for grabs. There are around 10 or so AA pros in the state and a whole bunch of A pros. So when 14 & Over (pro open) events are run only a couple of A pros will make the main at most. Who will progress up into the AA class that way? Well there would be no new blood going into AA pro and the A pro class would just get bigger. The only thing is a lot of the A pros won't ride when they are combined with the AA's, and it's understandable with costs involved.
It also appears that the 30+ Open Wheel class has been given priority over A pro? What's that all about? Riders want 30+? I get that, but did you ever ask the A pros if they want an A pro class? It's better supported than AA and 30+ open put together.
I get it that it's difficult for a Vic club to generate enough entries to warrant a AA pro class, but why should that effect the A pro class? And it's a viscous circle, no A pro class, no riders progressing into AA pro and the AA class just keeps getting smaller. I'm not saying clubs have ot go out and raise more money. Not at all. Just that they should think about the growth of the sport especially at the top end. If it's about clubs and sponsors getting bang for bucks why not have a consolation final if you are going to combine AA and A pro riders. Keep the A pro riders getting their log books out.
The 30+ Open Wheel riders race for fun more than the money, ask any of them. Let them fund the class by making it a pay back class, the more riders they get involved the better it is for them.

Hey guys thanks for the concern.
As all of Australia know, a couple of months ago the NSW Central Coast and the Newcastle area was ravaged by a huge storm in which 9 people lost their lives and a huge cargo ship was stranded on the beach in Newcastle.
Our office is based in this area. We too were flooded and lost equipment. We had no power for about a week or so on top of that. We had a computer get wet and lost a bunch of data. We are still fixing some of the things that were damaged during this time.
In the time after that we had additional rain which also affected events and photo shoots we had planned.
After what I would say is the worst and definitely the wettest winter I have experienced, we have the show back on the road. Issue #45 which was due out about 2 months ago has been printed and is currently being transported to our Australian and New Zealand distributors. BMXPRESS will hit the newsstands in approx 3-4 weeks (very early Nov 07).
This addition will include amongst other things, the Aussies, The UCI Worlds, the UCI SX race (Olympic test race), WA Super Series and so on.
I appreciate the concern, patience and the support that the Australian and New Zealand BMX community have given BMXPRESS Magazine over the last 9 or so years.
ABA press release
The American Bicycle Association is proud to announce this year’s inductees to the ABA BMX Hall of Fame. The ABA is in its 30th year of operations as the largest BMX sanction in the world. The ABA BMX Hall of Fame began in 1985 and is now in its 23rd year. The annual Hall of Fame Banquet takes place in Tulsa, Oklahoma at ABA`s host hotel, the Crowne Plaza, Wednesday November 21st 2:00pm. Seats are limited so be sure to get there early!
This year, the ABA BMX Hall`O Fame welcomes the following people for their contributions to the sport of BMX:
Dennis Dain: Best known as the “Red Baron”, this Western Sports-A-Rama local was pilot of the world’s greatest side-hack team. During the hack era of the 70’s, Dain & Ruiz were on top, practically undefeated between the years 1975 to 1979. He was one of the original bike testers for Elaine Holt’s Bicycle Motocross News (the sport’s first newspaper). Dain was one of the first racers to be sponsored by GT, and even had his own Dain replica frame. He also rode for Redline and was a longtime racer for ABA BMX Hall of Famer “Big Daddy” Ralph throughout most of his career. Dain was a founding member of PRO. Dennis still lives in California and works for UPS.
Greg Grubbs: Greg was the first racer from Nebraska to make a name for his self on the national circuit. Not only was he fast, he was the hero to many racers that wore glasses and he was well known for his sense of humor. Greg started racing in 1976, turned Pro at age 15 in 1980, then won the ABA Cornhusker National in the 16 expert class, back when you could race Pro and expert in the same day. In 1981, he won 12 ABA single A races, while riding for SE Racing in the summer. He won the Jag World Championships in A Pro and Pro Open in 1981. In 1982, he was picked up by Redline and won his first race for his new sponsor in Orlando , Florida as AA Pro. He was featured on the December ‘82 BMX ACTION cover. He finished the ‘82 season as the #3 Pro behind the Patterson Bros. In 1983, Greg was dropped from Redline and began wearing a jersey that stated “FREE AGENT”. In the summer of ‘83, he was the first instructor/counselor at the Woodward Training Center along with Mike Miranda, Mike Poulson and Joe Baumert. He briefly rode for JAG BMX. He rode for Hyper BMX from mid-1984 to end of 1985, until owner Billy Farrell was killed in an auto accident. He retired in 1986. From ‘86 to ’90, he attended the University of Nebraska , where he received his B.A. in Anthropology. He made a comeback in 1990 by winning first race back as A Pro at the Mid-West Nationals. In 1991, he blew out his knee at the Mile High Nationals and retired permanently. He was the on-camera talent for the ABA BMX TV Show “Pump”. Greg currently lives in Los Angeles where he works on commercial production and works for the TV show Motocross Files.
Elaine Holt: Elaine got involved in BMX through her marriage to Ben Holt, who had introduced a plastic gas tank for BMX. Seeing a great opportunity, Elaine came out with the first real publication devoted to BMX, “Bicycle Motocross News”, in June 1974. She actively covered BMX races and is responsible for spreading the word of BMX to tens of thousands of potential racers from the beginning. Elaine is credited with coining the term "BMX" from our sport of Bicycle Motocross.
The ABA would like to thank all the voters, fans, racers, and industry for their participation. We would also like to send a HUGE congratulation to the newest ABA BMX Hall of Fame inductees!

|
Partnership packages
There are lots of sponsorship opportunities too, since all the profits go straight to the Royal Children's Hospital your donations go to a great charity and are tax deductible.
Working bee/riding session
We had a big session on the track over the weekend, thanks to Chris, Paul, Mark and Johanna for helping out with the track on Saturday. And thanks to the guys who came up Saturday for a session after racing was finished, it broke out into an 8 man race. Jonathan took the win over Jhy Denholm in the final.
The Guyers family came over from South Australia for the weekend and Maddy, Taz, Ross and Scooby were hitting up the track with confidence. Scooby rode until his legs gave way, I think they were looking forward to getting back home and having a rest.
We have another session on Saturday 27th of October. If you are interested in coming up or if you have any questions just email webmaster@bmxultra.com.
Photos
Ok so we got some photos from Sunday, I couldn't work out the lighting so some a little sup standard, but I thought I would use them anyway, they give away hint of the changes the track has gone through since January.
Volunteers
We won't have the fantastic people from ManageSoft helping out this coming BSX, which means we will need to drum up some extra volunteers, if you are interested in helping out, please drop us an email.
XBR joins bsx2008
We are proud to announce that XBR magazine will be supporting the BSX event for the third year in a row. Expect to see the event advertised in XBR soon.

The 2007 WA BMX State Titles were held over the weekend at the Byford BMX Club. Riders enjoyed beautiful weather and a perfect track from Friday through Sunday as the Titles unfolded. In 2007, new competitors arose and new champions were crowned.
Andrew Petricevich has already uploaded the 16 boys final, Jnr Men's Extra Moto, and Elite Men's main event videos to his YouTube address. He didn't receive the Australian Volunteer of the Year award for nothing! Follow the link below to check them out.

bmxultra.com/ONE Bicycles rider Matt Butterworth had mixed fortunes over the weekend. In the 35-39 Cruiser final he finished on the podium in 3rd behind Karl Mustchin and Tony Keogh. The 30+ Masters final had a field resembling a national final with riders such as Karl Mustchin (1st), Tony Hancox and current national 7A Nathan Schmidte. Matt had trouble getting out of the gate cleanly and was back packing the entire final to finish 8th.
Quick results:
JNR MEN:
1) Ben Davis. Clean sheet.
2) Tim Mores
3) Lindsay Truscott
ELITE WOMEN (JNR & SNR COMBINED)
1) Cat Hopkins. Smoked all weekend. Checked out each moto.
ELITE MEN
1) Brock Murray. Went in as favourite. Red hot all weekend.
2) Mark Taylor. Reeled Murray in from 2 bike lengths behind to just lose by less than a foot.
3) Scott Taylor. Hit the gate. Went from last to 3rd after hitting the gate
UCI press release
The final round of the 2007 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup is kicking off this weekend 11-12 October at Roc d’Azur Fréjus (France). Being held at Roc d’Azur, the biggest mountain bike festival in Europe, over 10’000 spectators is expected to watch the action on the demanding BMX Supercross track.
The Roc d’Azur track has been modified from last year, promising great racing on a very demanding track. Many of the track features are similar to the Olympic track, giving riders valuable input for next year. Only for the 2nd time around, the women will race on the big 8 meter high start ramp and negotiating a BMX Supercross track.
Being one of the most important events to score valuable points towards the qualification for the Olympic Games, the finals will see a record number of participants with over 110 Men and 40 Women from 20 countries.
In Elite Men, Robert De Wilde (NED) sits fairly comfortable in the overall lead in the 2007 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup. “Afro-Bob” has showed great consistency with three 2nd place finishes. Could he grab his first win and the overall title? Runner-up in the overall ranking, Mike Day (USA) has a potential chance taking it away from De Wilde if he wins and De Wilde finishes worse than 8th in the semi-finals. Only time will tell.
With the World Champion and overall BMX Supercross World Cup leader, Shanaze Reade (GBR) opting to sit out the final round, the win and the overall title is anyone’s to win. Ann-Caroline Chausson (FRA) has a great opportunity (currently in 2nd place), racing in front of the home-crowd.
Union Cycliste Internationale, founded in 1900, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) is the world governing body of all international cycling. Headquartered in Aigle, Switzerland, the UCI is the International Federation of Cycling and represents the associations of 173 countries and their National Cycling Federations. ABA BMX press release
Gilbert, AZ – The American Bicycle Association is hitting the road in a big way. The ABA’s “MPV” (mobile promotional vehicle) will be making surprise visits to BMX tracks all around the country. The MPV will be on the road exposing kids to bicycle motocross racing and is anticipated to be on the road 8 months of the year. The ABA “MPV” will also have “special” ABA BMX offers for everyone who receives a visit.
The MPV will not only be visiting BMX tracks, it will also be seen at major sporting events, local bike shops, AMA Supercross events, elementary schools and anywhere kids can be found. The MPV is already scheduled through December 2007.
The MPV adds a whole new level of support to ABA BMX programs. Local ABA tracks will also have the ability to utilize the MPV. All it takes is a simple request from a local track to have the MPV attend a large event in their area. In conjunction with all the other promotional tools the ABA has available, an ABA local track now has the ability to use this BMX “billboard on wheels” in their professional marketing campaigns.

The Factory team were in Salt Lake City for round 3 of the Supercross thanks to the support of the UCI who have paved the way for access to the Supercross events. The Factory took time whilst in the U.S to receive comments on the Aussie team from British legend Dale Holmes, Argentinean duo Christian and Javier, Americans Randy Stumphauser, Danny Calaug and DB44. The film is so far self funded using the motto of “it just has to be done”. Currently sponsors are being sourced for the project. In maybe the most evolving and history making period in the sport with the inclusion of BMX into the Olympic program, The Factory team are stoked to be capturing the lead up to the Games and the competitive rivalry of the athletes attempting to make the Australian team. The film will be due out shortly after the Olympics. BMX Australia press release
Beenleigh’s Jamie Gray was crowned Queensland State Champion in Gladstone today. The world ranked rider overcame jet lag to take out the title after returning to Australia just a few days after being the top Australian in the UCI Supercross in Salt Lake City.
“I’m feeling much better today. I was a bit off the pace on Friday,” explained Gray. “It was good to come through with a win today.”
Gray sees this as a stepping stone in his quest for making the BMX Olympic team in Beijing next year. "At the moment things are going well. I’m finishing in the top two Aussies in all the big races overseas," Gray said.
With team mates Joel Clark (Sunshine Coast) and Glen Codega (Logan) battling for second place, it took a photo finish to give Clark second over Codega in third.
Defending state champion, Todd Pascoe from Townsville, placed fourth while local hopeful Daniel Wallace finished in fifth.
Defending state champion claimed yet another title in the elite women. Gladstone’s Krystal Cranfield won comfortably making it her ninth state title of her career. Cranfield has since moved to Centenary Plains in Brisbane but still believes it was her local track knowledge that helped.
“Part of the secret is knowing the track well,” she said.
“I’ve been on this track for 13 years. That’s how long I’ve been riding and that’s how I’ve been training on this track.”
Redland’s rider Kelly Percy made an early move but Cranfield had a clear margin by the second turn. Percy claimed second while Bundaberg’s Tanya Thiele was third.
In the junior men’s, Stevie Janssen (Nerang) had the race sewn up leaving club mate Nick Deininger to fight it out with Kurt Nicholls (Cairns). Nicholls had trouble in the first half of the race finishing in third place with Deininger in second.
The junior women’s race saw a move by Townsville’s Rachel Bracken in the third straight to pass early leader, Caitlyn Ward from Gladstone. Nerang’s Cherie Simpson moved up into second leaving Bracken to take the title and Ward finished in third.
In the 14 girls the World Champion, Melinda McLeod from Mackay, was challenged by Nerang’s Lacey Oliver. McLeod made her move in the second turn to retain her state number plate. Oliver finished in second and Kayla - May Cosgrove from Gladstone claimed third.
A total of 27 age groups titles were held and the winning club team was Mackay Pioneer. Southern Zone won the talent squad team and the corporate team was Bicycle Connection Racing from Mackay.
