UCI press release
Chula Vista CA – The opening round of the 2012 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup series got underway in Chula Vista, Calif. on Friday with Connor Fields (USA) and Caroline Buchannan (AUS) taking the victories in the men’s and women’s time trial superfinal.
Nearly 200 of the world’s best BMX racers challenged the Beijing-replica track on the campus of the U.S. Olympic Training Center in the race against the clock. For the finals on 31st of March 64 men and 32 women qualified.
Olympic year heats up competition
With the start of an Olympic year the field was stacked with nearly 200 riders and all the major players in attendance. After one round of time trials the best 16 men and ladies qualified for the time trial superfinals. Fields posted the fastest time of the nearly 150 elite men in the opening time trial heat. Olympic gold medalist Maris Strombergs (LAT) finished second and the reigning USA Cycling National Champion Corben Sharrah took third spot.
Connor Fields said: “I grew up on this track,” explained Fields. “I started riding it in 2008 and so I know it like the back of my hand now. It was a good start to an important season, but you are only as good as your last race and there is another race tomorrow.”
Buchanan peaks at the right moment.
Like Strombergs on the men’s side, Australian Caroline Buchannan was the only rider standing between an American podium sweep in the time trial Superfinal. The fourth-ranked rider in last year’s UCI BMX Supercross World Cup standings, Buchannan edged American favorite Arielle Martin by less than 4/10ths of a second. Along with Martin, Amanda Carr (USA) upped her game to secure the bronze in the Superfinal. Listen to her reaction here.
64 men and 32 women to finals
With their performances Fields and Buchannan secure the top spots going into tomorrow’s main event. In total, Fields will be among the 64 who qualified for Saturday’s 1/8 finals and Buchanan will lead the 32 women for the quarterfinals.
Tomorrow the BMX riders will race against each other in heats of eight riders over three heats. The best four of will qualify for the next round through to quarterfinals and finals.
Results top three men:
1. Connor Fields (Henderson, Nev./Chase BMX) 33.648
2. Maris Strombergs (LAT) 34.413
3. Corben Sharrah (Tucson, Ariz./GT Bicycles) 34.682
Women:
1. Caroline Buchannan (AUS) 36.073
2. Arielle Martin (Spanaway, Wash./Intense BMX) 36.546

The Geelong BMX Club will be having their Geelong Spectacular event this Sunday, April 1. It incorporates the fourth rounds of both the PRA Tour and the Junior State Series. Most importantly it's the last open race meeting in Victoria before the Australian Championships.
The guys at Geelong always put on a ripper of a race meeting and have a hell of a fun track. Even if you aren't in the running for the JSS or Pro tour or even going to the National Championships make sure you don't miss this one. Oh and they have a stack of prize money up too, there's going to be some great racing you can bet on that.
Mail entries have closed but you have until 8pm tonight Friday, March 30 to enter online.

I better head over there now myself so I don't forget again.
bmxultra.com press release
The third round of the Victorian Pro Tour was hosted by the Park Orchards BMX Club on Sunday. Levi Collins, Dane Pangallo, and Aaron Rogers were flying the bmxultra.com colours.
Levi Collins worked hard in the two weeks since round two and it showed. While he was still struggling a bit with his gates he managed to make the cut for the AA Pro main. A 4-5-5 in the three moto finals put Levi in 6th place overall for the day. Keep an eye out on Levi as he works his way back to the podium.
Flat pedal A Pro racer Dane "Daneosaur" Pangallo was out to back up his success at round 2 and reach the podium again. He was looking strong in the motos, but a couple of mistakes in the semi final in a close field was all it took to end his day. Round 4 will be on his home turf at Geelong, look out for Dane in the hunt again.
Aaron Rogers was mixing it up in the Vet Pro class and, after a win in a run off, found himself in the finals again. With a 7-4-6 in the three moto finals Aaron finished up with 5th overall for the day.

I had a great day at Park Orchards "Clash of the Titans" on Sunday. They had a well prepared track which was fast. I rode up an age class and battled it out with the 13 boys and managed to finish 6th in final. I also competed in the 3 rd round of the Victorian Junior State Series. After a great start in the final, I over jumped and found the flat bottom of the second straight, I managed to get back and claim fourth! I'm looking forward to the Geelong Spectatcular this weekend.

Supercross BMX Australia press release
Speedline Parts/Supercross BMX team welcomes Ethan Zrna
Nine year old Ethan Zrna, from the Mildura BMX Club, is now riding a 2012 Supercross ENVY and has joined the Speedline/Supercross team. Ethan is the youngest rider of the team that's scattered across Australia. Is he fast? Yes! He's currently ranked #2 in Australia and just keeps getting faster. Look out for Ethan flying the Speedline/Supercross colours at the National Championships in Mount Gambier next month. Welcome to the team Ethan.
Peter Little doing big things in the Champbikx series
After some good racing at round 5 and 6 of the Champbikx series in the rain soaked capital Canberra Speedline Parts/Supercross BMX team rider, Peter Little, has slipped into fourth place in the overall standings for the hotly contested 16 boys class. Keep an eye out for Peter at the final round in Mount Gambier as he looks for a way to take his custom anodised 2012 Supercross ENVY to a podium. Nice one Peter, keep up the great work.
The South Australian Championships
The South Aussie Supercross Speedline Team debuted at State Titles at Cross Keys, in preparation for the Australian Tiles in April.
This was the first time all of the riders had assembled together and aimed to start the race team season with a bang.
All suited up to tackle the Cross Keys track expecting some awesome results were:
The SA crowd enjoyed seeing the new SUPERCROSS / SPEEDLINE Jerseys with the standout orange names and numbers on the back, the eye catching design was the doing of by Bill Ryan. The Jerseys also made our riders stand out for the commentators and even the visually impaired retro riders could see em up on the gate.
Factory rider Ethan “No Way” Zrna debut the new look 2012 ENVY frame and Speedline parts, he held the South Aussie factory SUPERCROSS/SPEEDLINE team flag high by obliterated his competitors for a clean sweep of moto’s. He continued the 1st fever in the semi-finals riding away from his opponents, then rubber-stamping his dominance by powering through the final, to take the championship plate for 9 Boys. Ethan rode to the limits to test his new Supercross ENVY frame and Speedline components.
He will be a force to beat at this year’s Aussies.
The super quick Madie Guyers, had a hard day mixing it with Australia’s best in the Pro Ladies Cruiser. Madie had some unlucky placings in the motos, but rounded off with a respectable 7th in the Cruiser ride. However, Madie cut some sick fast laps in the 20”, smashing the first moto, with an awesome 2nd, she raced well for the rest of the day, with good gates. Tight fast racing in every moto saw her return a tremendous result of 4th in the 20” 13-14 Girls class.
Fellow factory rider Paul “old man“ Tomkinson has been off the bike lately and showed what an old Pro has against the “half his age” younger riders in the fast and unrelenting A Pro Class. Paul had some top heavy motos but held his own and smashed a 4th and a 2nd to squeeze into the semi’s. A bad start is unforgiving in the high speed A’s, and he finished with a gutsy 6th.
In his comeback race after 2 years, South Australian Team Manager Brett Malic, had a short lived meet, to crash in the first turn of the first moto. Earning a rest in Hospital with a torn ligament in his ankle.
The Speedline/Supercross BMX Australia team will be in full force for the Aussies at Mt Gambier, have a chat about their Supercross rides and Speedline products.
The Speedline Parts/Supercross BMX Australia team is proudly supported by Speedline Parts, Supercross BMX, Dirt Designs, bmxultra.com and TECH.

UCI press release
With only 135 days to go to the start of the 2012 London Olympic Games, London is calling upon the best Elite BMX riders worldwide to qualify. The UCI BMX Supercross World Cup Series races are the main qualification events for the Olympic Games and are a major opportunity for riders to score valuable points. The first opportunity to do so is at the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup, scheduled for 30th – 31st March in Chula Vista, California.
Impossible to predict
Around 35 seconds - that is all it takes to race a Supercross track - giving all eight riders a fighting chance to win this explosive battle. It is impossible to predict who will be this year’s top rider, but looking at previous results, and at the top five countries, we might want to keep an eye out for current World Champion Joris Daudet (FRA). Connor Fields (USA) had a great end of the 2011 season as well, winning the last event in California. Current Olympic Champion Maris Strombergs (LAT) is always a fierce competitor as is Sam Willoughby (AUS) - winner of the 2009 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup.
Elite Women
Among the Elite Women current World Champion Mariana Pajon (COL) looks strong and is tipped as one of the favorites to claim top honors in 2012. Caroline Buchanan is the best performing Australian rider, and while American Arielle Martin is being challenged by a number of talented young girls, it still looks like she is the American to beat in 2012. From France we see a number of women Elite riders that are on a par, such as Laetitia Le Corguille and Magalie Pottier. At the last 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, France was the strongest nation; question is, will it be again in 2012? Romana Labounkova was the best performing Czech rider at the UCI BMX World championships in Denmark in 2011 ranking 13th, but will she hold her country’s position in the top five this year?
Then there are two women riders, standing out almost alone, that represent their countries at the highest level. Sarah Walker (NZL) and Shanaze Reade (GBR) were top performers in the last Olympiad, but their countries are not represented in the top five ranking this time around.
Fastest track
Although work is already under way to build a London 2012 replica track in Chula Vista, the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup will be held on the existing well-known Supercross track; by many regarded as the best and fastest track in the world.
New partners
The 2012 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup is proudly sponsored by GoPro, Oakley, Red Bull, Troy Lee Designs, Leatt and ProGate.

Redline press release
Team manager Jason Carnes led a strong and ascending Team Redline into the Super National at Desoto, TX and by the time the dust had cleared and the weekend was over Redline fans had plenty to cheer about.
On Saturday, Redline lined up Sam Willoughby, Tory Nyhaug, French rider Damien Godet, and getting faster every day, hometown star Denzel Stein. When it came to the final, Tory Nyhaug took a strong sixth and Sam Willoughby gapped the field for a decisive win in the Elite Men’s event.
In the Women’s Elite event, Alise Post reconfirmed that her successful comeback from injury is for-real by placing as the top US rider in third place.
TM Jason Carnes not only kept the RL team machine running smoothly, but he also had a successful day on the track against the always tough Vet Pro field. Fourth place for Jason!
Sunday was another bright, sunny day for the Red, White and Black. In the Elite Men’s event, Sam Willoughby completed his ‘double’ for the weekend by winning against a stacked field. And Alise Post scored her first victory of the young season by winning the Women’s Elite event.
In addition to Redline’s top guns, Redline also had a strong showing by it’s Regional Development Teams including Florida based Redline/M-1, Texas based ORP, Minnesota based Redline/Adventure and California based Redline/Bike Alley. A big shout-out goes to ORP rider Paige Norton who won the 14 girls events both days on her freshly hand autographed Redline/Alise Post Flight frame!
Redline riders Elliott McGrath of Stile Industries/Redline and Travis Ohrazda also made the journey to Desoto to compete in the always competitive A-Pro class.
The Super National in Desoto served as a final tune-up for the Redline pros as they now move on to Chula Vista where they will begin their final push for the London Olympics on the Olympic Training Center Supercross track.
Joining the team in Chula Vista will be AM #1 Josh Klatman who will be competing in both the So Cal National as well as the first USAC Collegiate National Championships.
Race fans can follow Redline riders on both Facebook and Twitter by finding Redline Bicycles on either service.
Morphine Industries press release
A week of coughing and feeling under the weather is the price you always pay rolling up to Morristown…..but it keeps bringing ya back. Can’t explain it, ya just go with it.
With rumors and whisperings that this Morristown was going to be bigger than ever. The Morphine crew strapped it on from all over the country and head to the Smokeys for the sport that we love…BMX.
When we rolled into town, it was obvious that USABMX was going to put on a show with a great track and all we had to do with provide the riding….and riding we did. With no AA PRO or Vet PRO racing we unfortunately were sans a few riders from the fam but solid none the less.
A PRO- Jason LaRev showed his usually skill and style but he came to abrupt halt with a mishap down the first straight and a slam into the double before the first turn. He settled watching the weekend with no broken bones but definitely some bruises.
36-40X Doran Bradshaw threw is down living up to his newly donned SOB title. Doran delivered a podium spot on 20” with a tre and a 4th place spot on his cruiser. Sunday Doran came right back with a 5th on his cruiser and a podium spot again on the 20”. Amazing how he goes to bed before 4am on Saturday night.
28-35X Charlie Hunt got sidelined on Saturday due to a glitch in the online reg system and had to watch on the sidelines. However, on Sunday, it was on as Charlie was ready to make up for a idle day. He slammed the top spot on the podium,1st, on cruiser and a hotly contested 2nd on his 20” by sliding past the finish line with legs and bike in the air.
19-27X Brandon McCoy started his assault on the overall title with a stacked class of 45 plus riders. Brandon battled for the top spot both days with Austin Loebe swapping spots. BMC settled for the deuce on Saturday and took the top spot on Sunday.
16 X Jared Johnson looked on point for the weekend but forced to step up another notch with outside lane choices most of the weekend. Jared laid down some great moves and took a 5th on Saturday and a 4th on Sunday.
13X Richie Dey brought his usual high flying skills and determination to Morristown. He got edged out of the main on Saturday but came back with a vengeance on Sunday to get an outside gate and finish at the line with a 6th.
10 Girls Kinley Buelvas repped the pink, black and white with skill. She rolled through her motos to make the main both days. Kinley took a 6th on Saturday and a 5th on Sunday.

bmxultra.com press release
The Second round of the Victorian Pro Tour was hosted by the Eastfield BMX Club on Sunday. Levi Collins, Dane Pangallo, Aaron Rogers and Shane Jenkins were flying the bmxultra.com colours.
Levi Collins struggled in the hot AA Pro field, he has been unable to train due to injury for a few weeks and it's all it takes in such a tough field to miss the cut.
Flat pedal A Pro racer Dane "Daneosaur" Pangallo hasn't been racing a whole lot this year, but he's been putting in the hard yards training and it's paying off. Dane qualified through his motos and semi final comfortably. When it came to the three moto final system he was up to the challenge. His consistant effort saw him take another podium, finishing up in the three spot.
Aaron Rogers and Shane Jenkins were getting amongst it in the Vet Pro class, which was stacked with current and former National Champions, but neither were able to make the cut for the final. You can be sure that both riders will be hungry for some finals action and will be in the mix again very soon.

We don't often have to do this but we were told by the Australian Fit Distributor, ECI, today that Fit Bikes Sky High bars do in fact have a lifetime warranty. Since we penalised them for not offering that in our "value for money" rating we have gone back and adjusted the review so that it's now correct.
Just another great reason to check out Fit bars when looking for some great bars that will work just as well on your freestyle bike as they do on your race bike.
bmxultra.com press release
The 2012 WA BMX Championships were held over the weekend in the south west regional centre, Bunbury. Over 470 riders with friends and families on hand converged on the state’s premier BMX facility which had hosted Rounds 2 and 3 of the Probikx/Champbikx Series earlier in the year. Superb conditions greeted the riders over the weekend with little wind and temperatures in the low 30’s.
Team bmxultra.com rider Matt Butterworth was entered in the 40-44 age group for both cruiser and 20 inch and while the defending champion from 2011 was confident in retaining the cruiser title, the depth of talent in the age group for both classes meant this was not an easy task. The cruiser class was first up on day 1 and Matt transferred out of the motos with a 1-2-2-2, earning the 2nd place qualifier straight to the final. In a field with the likes of Jason May, Frans de Swart and Matt Briggs, the final would be hotly contested. Coming out of Lane 2, Matt slotted in behind Matthew Briggs who had the holeshot out of lane 6. Briggs had the 2nd straight dialled in the final and checked out with Matt, De Swart and Jason May looking gain ground over the third straight rhythm section. This was Briggs’ day however and Matt crossed the line 1.01 seconds behind in 2nd place. The battle for 3rd and 4th went to a photo finish with the transponders splitting de Swart and Jason May for 3rd and 4th respectively by 0.164 of a second.
The 20 inch classes for all age groups came out to play for Day 2. Again Matt was in the 40-44 class with 12 entries and the majority of the cruiser riders backing up for a tilt at the 20 inch title. Matt was looking at redemption from 2011 where a crash in the final resulted in a broken collarbone. Any result, as long as he finished upright, would be a bonus. A 2-2-2-1 moto result earned Matt 3rd place in qualifying overall behind Jason May and Frans de Swart. Gate goes down and Matt is drag racing four wide with de Swart, Jason May and Peter Copeland for the holeshot over the 24ft first doubles. May grabbed a slight lead into turn one and makes a smooth run through the technical second straight which claimed several riders in the finals. A bike length lead was all that was required for May to hold on for the win by 0.34 of a second from Matt and Frans de Swart in the 3 spot.
Overall, the second step on the box in two classes was a very satisfying result for Matt in 2012.. Attention now focuses back to the WA Super Series with Round 7 at Westside on March 25.
Videos of the finals can be seen here.

Supercross BMX Australia press release
Supercross BMX Australia factory rider Max Cairns headed up to Canberra for round 5 and 6 of the National Champbikx series. After a slow start to the series Max has been picking up pace and moving rapidly up the Series standings. But it was in rain soaked Canberra where he really hit his stride. There's something about Max in wet conditions, he always seems to come out on top.
At round 5, in the action packed 16 boys final Max lead the race all the way to the last straight to stay away from a massive crash that claimed half of the field only to be picked off at the finish line and had to settle for second.
Round 6 was rained out after just two rounds of motos and with two firsts Max was declared the winner for the round.
Max now sits in third place in the overall standings with a chance to continue his climb at the final round at Mount Gambier, South Australia later next month.

Eastfield are having their March Madness event this Sunday, March 11. It incorporates the second rounds of both the PRA Tour and the Junior State Series.
We were down at the Eastfield track last night, it was a little soft to start off with but the more people rode it the better it was. Given the amount of rain the track has been pounded with over the past few weeks it's not too bad, however the club still has a bit of work ahead of them. If you have some spare time to help the club before the event I'm sure they could use some volunteers.
Check out the entry form for full details:

Don't forget entries close at 8pm tonight Wednesday, March 7.
