31/01 Response to change the Victorian State
Titles
Thanks to those that have had their say so far. It would be nice to hear
from the South Australian's who had their titles opened up late year.
Although only about 10 interstate riders attended, the decision was to
close the event for amateur classes in 2005, but to keep the pro classes
open. It would be interesting to hear what lead to the decision to close
it again and why leave the pro classes open.
Simon Anderson (AA Pro) Bellarine
I agree with Paul Pretlove.
There should only be A/AA pro, but there should only be minimal prize
money. Instead of BMXV putting theirs and sponsors money into the pro
purse, they should be out there promoting the event in papers, radio and
most of all the schools in that area/ town. After all, without new kids
in the sport, there will not be a sport... BMXV need to make sure there
are plenty of signs around the area/town to let people know that this
event is on.
I also believe, that they should be 4 rounds and take the points from
the best 3 rounds (last/final round to be double points) to come up with
the most consistent rider, also this way 4 clubs benefit from a state
titles not just 1.
Also, I DON'T think that the Victorian State Titles are a place for interstate
riders. What is the point of having them at all when the people that win
might not even be for the state. And isn't that why we have the Australia
titles, so we can see the best from all the states race against each other.
31/01 Suzuki Automobile is the BMXMasters 2005
title sponsor
Strategic engagement in the field of BMX freestyle
Duesseldorf/Cologne
- Suzuki International Europe GmbH and spielbetrieb agency
for live-communication have signed an agreement about the title
sponsorship for the BMXMasters in 2005. After last year's successful cooperation
for the BMXWorlds, Suzuki Automobile remains loyal to the Cologne BMX
event and is headsponsor again.
With this activitiy Suzuki Automobile GmbH will use together with other sponsors the BMX sport as a high identification factor for their marketing strategies and intensify and improve their awareness and visibility in the target group of young people between 15 - 35 years.
"The BMXMasters in Cologne take a big place helping to develop the BMX sport in Germany over the years of its existence. BMX is a young and honest sport that is established all over the world. Athletes & spectators fit exactly our Project 20+, that we have started to approach a new and younger target group of people that are 20 years and older," says Guido Hannich, Manager Marketing and Communication Suzuki International Europe GmbH.

28/01 Responses to change the Victorian State
Titles
Shane Jenkins (A Pro) Northern Park/Lalor
I have competed at 22 consecutive Victorian State Championships,
and I know that people will have a very negative response to opening the
state championships to outsiders. The truth is it has been happening for
years and there is actually nothing you can do to stop it. Interstate
and international riders have been racing the Victorian State Championships
because all they need is to be associated with a Victorian club and they
are allowed to ride. You may not have noticed because there have been
very few riders do it lately or they may not have done it in your/your
children's classes. The two more recent ones that come to mind are Western
Australian Khalen Young and Britian's own "Blackpool Bullet"
Trevor Stamford (before he moved to Australia). And think about it, the
Australian Championships aren't a closed event either, any international
rider can enter as long as they have the correct licence. Closed or open,
if people want to race it they will, no matter where they are from, truth
is I'm not sure that there will be too many interested, because of the
entry costs and so on. I know I will be willing to change to a South Australian
licence to race at this years SA titles at the Mt Gambier track. I competed
at the South Australian state championships last year in two non-title
classes, A Pro 20" and Vet Pro cruiser. The decision to race in both
those classes had nothing to do with the prize money, I would have been
better off if I stayed home, it was all about the competition. I am sure
there are a bunch of South Australian's hungry for some great racing and
there could be a way to offer that without giving away Victorian titles.
How about day 1 racing Southern State Titles, an open event in all classes
and day 2 the Victorian State Titles (that's right 1 day, you don't need
5 motos, 3 should be more than enough) which has some open/non-titles
classes, like Pro Open (A/AA combined), A Pro, Voucher classes, Vet Pro.
A/AA Pro is the only way we should run pro events in Victoria. There are
just too many other rules which just cause confusion and A/AA is the only
one that proves successful, bringing out the bigger rider count and closer
racing. AA Pro riders should be confined to AA as they are the elite riders
in the state and it is the elite class. A Pro shouldn't be a title class
so riders should be allowed to compete in their own age classes as well,
but they should have a choice, don't force them to ride both or they may
not be able to afford it and choose to not race at all.
A bigger topic than A/AA and opening the state titles is to reduce the
entry fee. This will help many families travelling from all over Victoria
(and maybe further) to make the weekend more affordable. How do you cut
entry fees, when the event costs money to put on? I can think of a few
ways, and they also help to add prestige in winning a title.
One more thing we need to do is make the tracks more exciting, do something to make people want to ride the track. One of the biggest problems with Victorian tracks is they just aren't as technical as interstate tracks, when our riders go to the National Championships they are already giving the competition a head start.
Scott Bradley (A Pro) Mt Gambier
I’ve just been reading the proposals suggested for the
2005 Victorian State Titles. If BMX Victoria were to open the meeting
and change the elite classes to AA and A, I would be keen to race for
the obvious reason that it is less than 100 kilometers for me to travel
and should make for some competitive racing. I haven’t spoken to
anyone else in Mt. Gambier about this but I would be quite confident that
the majority of Blue Lake riders ( approx 50 ) would attend. This move
could also have some other positive effects such as helping to convince
SABMXA that the SA State Titles also be an open meeting, which would be
a logical move considering Mt. Gambier’s proximity to Victoria.
I find it amazing with the continual drop in rider numbers at big meetings
that the state associations continue to make decisions that only add to
the problem.
The short of it is I would race A Pro at the Victorian State Titles if
it were changed to an open meeting. If you want any opinions on other
topics such as The Nationals being run in UCI format ( it would cost me
approx $ 2500.00 to attend and I may only get to race six races ), Nationals
entry fees the same as the last two years ( weren’t they so high
because the meeting was held indoors? ) or the entry fees for the ACT
titles ( how can you charge more for a challenge class than a money class?
) then let me know. I would go and race more MTB races but I’ve
just found out the entry fees for this years MTB Nationals and they are
not much better than BMX.
Adam Robb (A Pro) South Eastern
Finally some talk on how to improve our State Championships.
I think the idea of opening the championships is a bad one, the only reason
the titles should be open is if we were to small a state to get a rider
count, if you want more riders, reduce the cost of the entry!
As for changing the Elite classes to A/AA, it is a great idea, the championships
were run like this a few years back and it looked to me like it was a
success.
If you wanted to ride A or AA you had to ride your age class, this meant
that the age classes didnt suffer and made for great racing in more than
just the Pro classes.
Victoria now have 10-12 excellent AA riders and by the end of the year
there is bound to be another 3-4 more. As for A Pro, this will always
be a strong class, as the Track Attack series just proved, at each meeting
there were over 30 A Pro riders.
I do think we should follow what was done a few years ago though by making
atleast the A Pro's race age class if they want to ride A Pro, this will
mean the 14 to 17 age classes wont be affected by a low rider count.
Dave Smith (parent) Park Orchards
I find it very hard to believe that this open meeting debate is happening
at all! Please take the time to read the name of the event:Victorian State
Titles. As with SA opening their state titles up to all, all it will achieve
is some sort of rejection to the idea by local riders. After speaking
to a few SA riders about what happened over there, the reaction seemed
to be mostly(nearly all) negative. I am the first to applaud raising competition
with racing, but do not agree with taking state plates away from Victorian
riders(even 50+ Steve!!) who ride the whole year in their state.I also
hope this is not an effort to bolster numbers to the States due to their
geography.Finally, people may reconsider
riding the event due to costs, travel etc if they were not riding a true
State Titles.
Lets hope the correct decision is made to let our State Titles be ours.
Paul Pretlove (parent) Warrnambool
On the subject of Elite or A/AA I think that every 'sanctioned' meeting
in Victoria should be made to run A and AA and the state titles should
then run A/AA as well.
There is a lot of confusion amongst new riders and parents in particular
regarding Pro classes. During the year they see 14+, A/AA, Pro Open then
to top it off at the State Titles we run Elite just to confuse them even
further. If we stick to A/AA all the time then at the State Titles we
know who is who and the younger riders can relate to the 'Pros' because
they only race A/AA.
Don't open up the State Titles to riders from other states, those that
do attend from interstate are usually the top in their class and will
most likely take the No. 1. Can you imagine at a Metro Plate finals not
seeing a 1V 2V or 3V on the gate as those riders have gone back to their
own state. Yes it could happen, we have the Track Attack and other big
meetings to race against the interstate riders, leave the Vic Titles for
Victorian riders.
If we want something different, let's try running the Vic titles as a
series of 3 race meetings (one round each in Northern, Western and the
final in Metro) in Sep. Oct and Nov. Plates should also only be awarded
1 to 8 with no consulation final. Riders that don't gain a plate should
be allocated a number between 40 and 99. This would put some pride and
prestige back into the wearing of a 'V' plate and boost the numbers of
riders trying to get that elusive 1 to 8 'V'. Lets face it you don't see
a rider with 9A on his plate.
I hope this makes for some good discussion, come on riders and parents
let us know your opinion!
28/01 Aussie Girls Gold Cup
The 11th annual Girls Gold Cup event is being held at the Happy Valley
BMX Club on Saturday 19th February, in conjunction with their Southern
Stampede event. This is an annual event established by the former female
riders involved in the Female Riders Association of South Australia. The
event is open to all female riders 12 years and over. Entry fee is $2
and you must ride a 20” bike in the event and also enter either
age, money or voucher class.
Last year saw the establishment of a Junior Girls Gold Cup for the younger
female riders and this event will be held again this year at The Cove
BMX Club on Sunday 20th February at their Southern Stampede race meeting.
This event is open to riders 11 years and under with the same conditions
as the Senior Girls Gold Cup.
The winners of the Gold Cups are unable to compete in the event for the
next two years as a way of encouraging all females to enter the event.
Over the years there has been some very exciting racing in the class and
more often than not the winner has been decided on a count back or they
have narrowly won the final. It is also a good chance for the younger
girls to race against the older girls.
Last year Sally Thomas took out the Senior Gold Cup and Talia Smith took
out the Junior Gold Cup. Previous winners of the Gold Cup include Emma
Franklin, Renee Junga and Kerrie-Lee Lucas. All previous winners can be
viewed on the Gold
Cup page on the SA BMX Chicks website.
The Gold Cup events are proudly sponsored by Boss Racing Differentials.

27/01 BMXV look to change the Victorian State
Titles
This just in from Steve Hunter;
We had a BMXV E.M.G. (Event Management Group) meeting on Monday 24th
Jan, where the main topic of discussion was the organization of this years
Victorian State Titles at Portland.
Now, contrary to rumour, Portland BMX Club has the event very much under
control, with a good management plan and very good support from local
government. However that's not why I'm contacting you. At the EMG, following
representations from the Portland Club, and from amongst us delegates
to the EMG, the following changes were proposed to the format of the 2005
Vic State Titles:-
1) that it be an Open meeting ie. open to riders from other states. The
particular reason for this is to allow riders from Mt Gambier and other
parts of SA who have always supported our Western District clubs, to enter.
In reality we do not expect that it would be like the ACT Titles where
everyone who is anyone on the Eastern coast enters (Portland is pretty
remote after all).
2) That the format for the top classes be changed from Elite/Junior(Elite)
to AA/A.
Now these were only recommendations from the EMG and are subject to their
acceptance, or rejection, by the Board of BMXV. It's important to note
too, that this would be a one-off experiment for 2005 and would not be
presenting a precedent for successive years.
What do your readers at BMXULTRA think?
Barrie Vickers, President of BMXV and member of the EMG welcomes a good healthy debate about the pros and cons of these changes. It's not really relevant what a 'Sprocket parent' or a 50+ rider like myself thinks about the change to AA/A (though I am in favour of it) , but we would like to hear from those who would be affected. Obviously everyone would be affected by the change to an Open format (though the feeling at the EMG was that the numbers involved would not be that great).
Let the debate begin.

27/01 BMXV Royal Children's Hospital fundraiser
On Sunday the 20th of February BMXV will be holding a fundraiser
for Melbourne's Royal Children's Hospital at the Warragul BMX Track. Warragul
is just over an hour drive South East of Melbourne and is Victoria's only
connection to it's long history. It's the only track in the state that
has gone unaffected by time, years have past and it's still Old-School.
6 Man manual gate, flat corners and very few jumps but it always manages
to generate a fun and relaxed atmosphere with some very close racing.
There is a 14 and Over money class for those chasing some competition,
but this is all about rasing money for the Royal Children's Hospital.
I would like to encourage the Vet Pro riders to get along and have some
fun too, that's anyone 30 and over. Donate $10 to enter the Vet Pro class
and get some racing in the way you remember it, this is not about winning
any money but will be a lot of fun.

on the racing calendar.

25/01 Factory Hyper / Tangent leading ABA and
NBL team points
The Hyper / Tangent crew headed east for two nationals in a row
- in Virginia and North Carolina. The NBL’s National #1 team and
the ABA’s World Championship team stormed the east coast looking
for more wins to add to the scorecard. With four wins in as many days
of racing, Factory Hyper / Tangent now leads both sanctions team races.
That’s right the team is currently leading the Factory Team points
chase in BOTH the ABA and the NBL. When was the last time that happened?
First up was the NBL’s Blue Ridge National in Lexington, Virginia.
Team riders Anthony DeRosa, Mike “Total Recall” McGonigle,
Samantha Miller, Sinead Miller, Justin Posey, Terrell Proctor, Trae Proctor,
Doug Hayes, Diego Alejandre, and Jud Ciancio made the trek to Virginia
to do battle with the NBL’s best. All in all, the team grabbed 23
individual wins for the weekend. Anthony Derosa doubled in 10 Cruiser
but had to settle for two second place finishes behind teammate Terrell
Proctor, the double winner in 10 Expert. Doug Hayes doubled in 13 Cruiser
while Trae Proctor nailed down both wins in 13 Expert. Jud Ciancio grabbed
two wins in 35-39 Cruiser. Krista Fournier helped herself to a huge double-double
in 10 Girls and 10 Girls Cruiser. Sinead Miller pulled down two wins in
14 Girls. Justin Posey grabbed a big double-double in 11 Expert and 11
Cruiser. Last but not least, Mike McGonigle scored wins in 3 out of 4
mains, doubling in 22-29 Expert and a Saturday win in 16-29 Open. In team
competition, the group pulled in two wins for the weekend, keeping Hyper
at the top of the NBL’s National Team race and well on their way
to an unprecedented three National Team titles in a row.
The very next weekend Factory team riders Mike Lundy, Krista Fournier,
Mike McGonigle, Anthony DeRosa, Doug Hayes, and Diego Alejandre traveled
to Williamston, North Carolina for the ABA’s East Coast National.
With a double team purse on the line, the team was amped to score big
dough early in the year and ramped it up with 18 wins. Mike Lundy came
up huge with a big double-double in 17-18 Expert and 17-24 Open. Mike
McGonigle rocked 19-27 Expert both days with a pair of wins. Future National
#1 Girl Krista Fournier was up to snuff with yet another triple-triple
in 9-10 Mixed Open, 10 Girls and 10 Girls Cruiser. Doug Hayes doubled
on Saturday in 13 Expert and 13 Cruiser and pulled down a win in 13 Cruiser
again on Sunday. Anthony DeRosa scored wins in 3 out of 4 mains, doubling
in 10 Expert and winning Saturday’s 10 Cruiser main. The team rocked
the house and took wins both days and pocketed a cool $2000 for their
efforts.

24/01 BMX-CHIXX launch
Dear BMX Chixx,
From February the 1st at 20.00 hours there will be a new international
BMX website: www.bmx-chixx.com.
What makes this website special is the fact that the site is “for
women only” and from a women’s perspective! It’ll contain
interviews with more and less famous women in the BMX scene. There’ll
be items like: statistics, powder—puffs (old school stuff), “get
fit, get fast”, “hot or not”, chixx profiles, gozzip,
mini chixx, challenge and cruiser women, chattbox etc etc. With this site
we want to promote BMX for women by women. We want to make sure we know
what goes on in the world of female-bmxers, have fun, try to take a stand
so that we have a say in the female-bmx-future, put young talented chixx
in the spotlight and contribute to the stimulation of new or ‘renewed’
female bmx-ers.
On Tuesday February the 1st at 20.00 hours the site will be launched by
a “launch-party” in the chat-room. With this e-mail I would
like to invite all BMX-women to enter the launch-party.
So if you want to stay up to date, get in touch with other bmxers around
you, contribute to your sport or just don’t want to miss out on
the fun, don’t forget to go to the site www.bmx-chixx.com
at February 1st at 20.00 hours and join us in the chat-room!!!!!!!!!!!!
We hope to see you in our chat-room and please forward this e-mail to

21/01 Track Attack results: Eastfield
We have received the full results from the Eastfield round of
the Track Attack. Here are the full results so far;
Round 5 is at the Lilydale track on Saturday, racing starts at 1pm.
21/01 Track Attack round 4: Eastfield
There were some minor changes to Eastfield's third straight,
it was in a great condition, but it's still a very bland track, with very
rounded jumps and flat landings, it was perfect for the more powerful/less
technical riders.
In the Pro women the playing field seemed to even up a little, Rachel
Sheridan (formerly Marshall), and Emma Franklin (Intense/TotalBMX) showed
they had the legs for the Eastfield track in the motos. Melissa Mankowski
had headed home. When it came to the final it was all Tanya Bailey (Cassap)
from start to finish.
In the A Pro Daniel Stocks dominated again, he should do well in the AA
Pro class with a lot of leg speed, skills and youth on his side.
AA Pro saw Luke Madill (GT/Fox) take his fourth win for the series Mike
Fenwick (Specialized/Fox) was close but had to settle for second. In the
first corner of the final Daniel Johnstone (DK) was in third but left
the corner wide open for a little push and shove, Anthony Harvey finished
third, Jonathan Hoare (BMXUltra.com/One) in fourth, Levi Collins (BMXUltra.com)
in fifth. The next round is at Lilydale on Saturday, gate drops at 1pm.
21/01 GT Australia Update
We asked GT Australia's Stephen Robinson what's been happening at GT,
since we haven't heard anything officially but there have been a lot of
rumours of team rider and sponsor changes. This is what he had to say;
"Team GT Australia (MTB and BMX) have signed with Fox clothing for
their race pants/shorts, jerseys, gloves, helmets and safety guards for
the 2005 season.
We have unfortunately had to let Dean Miller go for 2005. Due to the inclusion
of a mountain bike team (4 x riders). We have only room for a certain
amount of riders to keep within a budget. We thank Dean for his loyalty
and commitment for the past 2 years, and we wish him all the very best
in the future.
Chloe Macpherson is still a member of Team GT for 2005, although her focus
has changed from BMX racing to Road and Track Cycling. GT are continuing
to supply Chloe with GT road bikes and track bikes and team clothing for
2005.
Chloe has recently won Gold at the North Queensland Track Cycling Championships
in Townsville in all under 19 women's events - the 500m time trial, flying
200m sprint, 2000m individual pursuit and 30 lap scratch race.
Chloe has also been selected to represent Queensland on the state team
for the 2005 Track Cycling nationals."
21/01 Levi Collins joins BMXUltra.com
Young
Aussie AA Pro Levi Collins (pictured in GT colours on right) has had some
impressive results in 2004, he finished off the year with a second in
the competitive Senior Elite class at the Victorian State championships.
It was his first year in the Senior Elite class. We have signed him up
and have worked out a special deal for him which is different to our other
AA Pro, Jonathan "Jon Jon" Hoare. He will have the opportunity
to review a bunch of new products.
Levi leaves former sponsor Sinister Racing on good terms. Team manager
Cameron Murray is sad to see him go, but very happy for Levi.
You will be hearing a lot more about Levi, his racing and product testing
throughout 2005.
21/01 New Gavin D photos available
We received an email from BMX's favourite freelance photographer
Gavin D. He says that photos from the Victorian State Titles and Nerang
are now available to view in the photo gallery on www.gavind.com.au.
20/01 Track Attack results: Knox
We have received the full results from the Knox round of the
Track Attack. Here are the full results so far;
Round 4 is at the Eastfield track tonight, racing starts at 7pm.
20/01 Greg Siinmaa. Legend.
Behind the scenes at the Knox round of the Track Attack on Tuesday night
A Pro Shannon Rademaker (FreeAgent/Cyclelink.com.au) had an equipment
malfunction. It seems he landed the big double in the first straight a
bit hard and bent his handlebars. Since there was no pro shop, no one
had handlebars big enough and he has been riding so well I told him to
take mine. I knew it could mean that I was side lined for the event. In
steps Greg Siinmaa (Sinister racing). Greg carries a complete spare bike
"just in case anyone needs something" he told us. "Take
the handlebars." So off we go, grab the handlebars, do the big swap
and now I can race too, with handlebars that are about 2 inches narrower
and an inch lower than I am used to, but without Greg I couldn't have
raced at all.
Later that night I heard that one of the AA Pros also had a problem with
a cassette exploding, Greg was to the rescue again donating a back wheel
and getting the rider back on the track.
This is not the first time he has done it either. I was at the Warrigul
track last year when I tore a hole in my tyre, there was no pro shop but
Greg had a spare tyre and I was back on the track and racing in no time.
I am sure there would be a number of stories about Greg that I haven't
heard.
It's people like Greg that make BMX that little bit more fun, they add
the human element to the sport, which is more about helping each other
enjoy the sport than trying to beat each other to the line.
I'd like to take the time to thank Greg. "You are a legend."
19/01 Track Attack Round 3 Knox
Knox
hosted the first of the two mid week Track Attack rounds last night and
the track was smooooth and fast.
The 4 gates of A Pro men kept up some great racing throughout the night.
Daniel Stocks looked as though he would make a clean sweep of the night
until he lost his front end in a moto half way around the track, he eventually
went on to win his third straight final for the series. Damien Rosenthal
(Redline) slotted in for second and Shannon Rademaker (FreeAgent/Cyclelink.com.au)
for third. (pictured right - A Pro - Shannon Rademaker leads Connor Hunter
in second, both these Victorian riders have made big improvements over
the past few months.)
In
the AA Pro Luke Madill (GT/Fox) was unstoppable, he also went on for his
third straight win, Anthony Harvey (Avent/ECI) took second with Mike Fenwick
(Specalized/Fox) and Jonathan "Jon Jon" Hoare (BMXUltra.com/One)
were battling it out for third until Fenwick pulled away on the last straight.
The three gates of Pro women is awesome to watch, Australia's best female
riders really know how to put on a great show for the crowd. Kylie Patroni
had two big falls putting her on the sidelines come finals time. I
missed the winner of the class, because there were battles right throughout
the field and I didn't know where to look. Rachel Marshall, 1998 UCI Elite
Womens world champion, was amongst the field. I caught up with her briefly
and she's been off the bike for 3 years, married to a professional basketballer,
living in Sydney and had her first child. It's great to see her back on
the bike, and it appears that she wouldn't have to do too much work to
get back to the front of the pack.
Thanks to GavinD (www.gavind.com.au)
for the photos, check out his website for lots more. We will have the
full results soon.
To the right is an extra photo from Park Orchards on Sunday, I don't think
we need to tell you who's the guy in GT/Fox colours.

18/01 Track Attack results
We have the full results from Track Attack so far;
Round 3 is at the Knox track tonight, racing starts at 7pm.
17/01 Track Attack news
I haven't been to the Track Attack races yet, but have been told that
Luke Madill is on fire and the only person getting close to him is Mike
Fenwick. Madill won the AA Pro class at both Frankston and Park Orchards,
there are 2 gates of AA Pro, but where's Khalen Young?
In A Pro there's around 30 riders, Daniel Stocks continues dominating
the class, winning both rounds so far, he will be well on his way to turning
AA Pro at the end of the series if he keeps it. Shannon Rademaker (FreeAgent/Cyclelink.com.au)
has been consistant and made both mains on the weekend, he's a real contender
now in the A Pro class.
The Pro Women have all come to Melbourne to rip it up, apparently 3 gates
of them, that would have to be one of the biggest fields in quite some
time. Tanya Bailey and Melissa Mankowski have won a round each.
Knox will be running gate practice this Monday evening from 6 pm till
8 pm for those that want last minute training before Knox host round 3.
The canteen will be open, everyone is welcome
17/01 Warwick Wheeler on Vet Pro
Warwick Wheeler, head honcho at BMXPress Magazine in Aus, picked
up on a point in our Vet Pro discussions late last year and wanted to
get it off his chest, so here goes.
"I just would make a point about the Vet pro thing.
An email came in on your site about why certain people ARE NOT vet pros.
i.e. who should be allowed to race it etc.
You justified your position and others who race it, that you are indeed
pros and that you ride pro all year.
Why is it that the same people who call themselves pros, bail into the
amateur masters classes at the Aussies when the going gets tough??
Isn't a pro a pro no matter what???
Why is it fair that the real amateur Masters riders like myself who do
not ride pro ever or call myself a pro ever be ripped off a chance to
win a national title. If BMXA don't cater for these people why should
riders like myself cop the consequences. Anyone who rides for money, no
matter what you call the class should ride the money class at all races
and not pick and choose when they are pro and when they are not.
You should be either one or the other. Nothing in between.
When do the real Masters riders get a chance. I think it is about time
they did.
If you had to make a decision and stick with, how many older riders would
go around calling themselves pros and ride the money class???"
The problem here is that we use so many different sets of rules for Pro in Australia. At the nationals a pro rider that's 30+ would have to compete in the Elite Class against riders that are of an international level, a big ask. Wouldn't a vet pro class, like the NBL's Elite Masters, at the nationals give the riders who are competitive as pros a chance to race each other, give them more competition and bring the ams a little closer together, giving them a crack at a title? It may even help to develop older riders new or returning to the sport into competitive vet pros.
17/01 Factory Hyper/Tangent riders
ring in the new year
Carlsbad, CA - NBL National #1 Team, Factory Hyper / Tangent, celebrated
the new year doing what it does best, dominating the competition. The
team made its first holiday appearance at the NBL's Christmas Classic
in Sarasota, Florida then headed west for the ABA's season opener, the
Silver Dollar Nationals, in Reno, Nevada.
Sarasota surprised the team with chilly weather, but the on track Christmas Classic action was as hot as ever. NBL and ABA NAG #1 10 Girl and 10 Girl Cruiser rider (the only rider to accomplish this feat), Krista Fournier, dominated her class and pulled in yet another double for the weekend. National #1 16 Expert Warren McDow took some spills but still had enough to double in class. ABA National #1 Girl and Girl Cruiser, Alise “The Beast” Post decided to make the trek out to Florida from Minnesota to put an end to the trash talking about her and Marianna Pajon. Pajon put up a great fight, but couldn’t stop the Beast who took 3 out of 4 mains from Pajon. Look for some great battles from these two in the future. Justin Posey pulled down a win in 11 Cruiser over Billy Russell on Saturday. Diego Alejandre grabbed a win in 14 Cruiser on Sunday. The team pulled in a second place on Saturday and won on Sunday and is still leading the NBL’s National Team points race, gunning for an unprecedented three titles in a row. In Sunday’s awards ceremony, Hyper’s head honcho Will Rells was on hand to accept the team’s National #1 title award and the $5000.00 check from the NBL’s head guy, Bob Tedesco.
The Hyper team’s ABA debut was a good one. The team unveiled their new “Hyper Factory Orange” jerseys fully complemented by No Fear’s 05 line up of pants gloves and helmets. Several team riders grabbed NAG plates in Saturday morning’s awards ceremony:
Jacob Abbe – National Age Group (NAG) #2 - 8 Expert
Chad Kerley – NAG #2 - 10 Expert
Krista Fournier – NAG #1 - 11 Girls, NAG #1 - 11 Girls Cruiser
Connor Fields – NAG #6 – 12 Expert, NAG #6 - 12 Cruiser
Tory Nyhaug – NAG #3 12 Expert, NAG #3 - 12 Cruiser
Lahsaan Kobza – NAG #2 - 13 Expert, NAG #3 -13 Cruiser
Alise Post – Overall National # 1 Girl, Overall National #1 Girl
Cruiser
Ben Kubalak – NAG #5 – 14 Expert
Mike Lundy - NAG #2 - 18 Expert, NAG #2 - 18 Cruiser
Eric Elliott – NAG #6 - 32 Expert, NAG #6 – 32 Cruiser
Team Manager TJ Johnson – NAG #1 - 28 Expert, NAG #1 - 28 Cruiser
Hyper banged out 15 wins for the snowy weekend with the team’s young ladies getting it started. Alise Post grabbed wins both days in 13 Girls, 13 Girls Cruiser, and beat up on the boys in 13-14 Mixed Open for her first “Triple-Triple” for the year. Krista Fournier wasn’t to be outdone, doubling up in 11 Girls and 11 Girls Cruiser for her first “Double-Double” of 2005. 10 Expert Chad Kerley crashed in his class semi on Saturday but still managed to win 3 out of 3 mains in Class and 9-10 Open. 12 Expert and Canadian National #1 Tory Nyhaug had the moves of the weekend, pimping Corben Sharrah in turn 2 in Saturday’s 12 Cruiser main for the win and came back with the exact same move in his class main to take the win again. Mike Lundy once again blew minds dominating the second straight and came up with a couple of wins in 18 Expert and 17-24 Open. 13 Expert Lahsaan Kobza was leading his class main on Sunday but washed out in the soft dirt at the top of turn 2. With a win by Kobza, Hyper had the Factory team win locked down on Sunday but had to settle for third.
All in all a decent start for Hyper. Expect to see the team in full force at the NBL’s Blue Ridge Mountain National in Richmond, Virginia and at the ABA’s Winter Nationals in Phoenix. 13/01 BMXMasters 2005 in Cologne
The worldwide biggest BMX freestyle event at the Cologne Youth Park (Kölner
Jugendpark).
Duesseldorf/Cologne, January 12, 2005 From June 23rd to June 26th nearly
2,000 international BMX riders will meet again in Cologne. After successful
and exciting world championchips in the years 1994, 1996, 2000, 2002 and
2004 Cologne will be the place for the start of the "BMXMasters",
the new international major event in BMX sports. The lifestyle-orientated
companies Suzuki Automobile, Braun and adidas have already confirmed their
participation.
The BMXMasters will be planned and organized from the agency spielbetrieb,
who organized already the Suzuki BMXWorlds in 2004.
During the four-day event 500 athletes will enter in five different disciplines:
the international elite of BMX freestylers will compete in the disciplines
Street, Miniramp, Vert, Flatland and Dirt to win some
of the $ 30,000 prize money. Three classes are offered, Amateur, Master
and Pro. In total more than 2,000 BMX athletes will be expected in Cologne.
Again in 2005 girls can compete in the disciplines Flatland and Street.
The BMXMasters is the only BMX competition in Europe, in which all five
Freestyle disciplines take place.
The expected 23,000 visitors can join spectacular side events. Besides
the BMX Party-Week with daily changing program, there will be „Best
Trick Contests“, Barbecue, Night-Jump etc. Several sponsors have
already confirmed their engagement for the BMXMasters: partners are Suzuki
Automobile, Braun and adidas, who are active supporters of BMX freestyle
for several years.
Stephan Prantl, Managing Director spielbetrieb: „Cologne has an
international reputation in the BMX scene and is without any doubt the
BMX centre of Europe. 1984 for the first time a BMX competition
took place in the Cologne Youthpark. 24 contests followed until today
and made Cologne to the most important BMX event location in the world.
At all events the founders of spielbetrieb participated as athletes in
the early years, later as organizers.
The worlds’ top BMX athletes are part of the cologne events since
more than a decade. Therefore it was time to label an own event, which
can take place independent from a world championship.”
Robert Möller, Managing Director spielbetrieb: „Together with
our partners we will aim to offer all visitors and participants a high-class
event with high end sport performances and great shows.“

12/01 FMF BMX looking for Aussie Distributor
Last month we said we'd heard a rumour that FMF BMX were looking
for an Australian Distributor. Since then we received an email from FMF
confirming the fact. They are on the hunt for someone who can help them
make an impact in Australia. If you think you have what it takes check
out www.FMFBMX.com
for contact details.
12/01 Park Orchards changes
Park Orchards is one of those tracks I never get bored with,
it changes regularly and everytime there's a change, there's a new challenge.
Although in need of some surface, which I hear will be on the track in
time for the second round of the Track Attack series this Sunday, the
changes are for the better. The third straight received a much needed
face lift. It's almost as if the club had bulldozed the whole thing and
started from scratch. If you are thinking of racing at Park Orchards this
weekend you might want to get down there early and get a good feel for
the third straight before racing, it certainly keeps you on your toes.
12/01 Northern Park (Lalor) gates tonight
The Northern Park BMX Club (Lalor) are getting an early start
to the year since Melbourne's Track Attack starts this weekend. People
start to show around 6pm and gates normally drop at 6:30pm. Wednesday
night is usually the club race night and there is a BBQ. But since it's
the first night for the year if there aren't enough people for a club
race there will still be a gates session. If you are in the area drop
down to Sycamore Reserve, Mill Park (Approx. 20 minutes north of Melbourne's
CBD).

11/01 BMXPros.com Race Report: ABA Silver Dollar
Nationals Reno, Nevada
The 2005 ABA Pro National series kicks of each year in Reno, NV. In a
area that is prone to cold weather and harsh conditions, the weather has
never been that great of an effect on the race or getting there. This
year, with harsh winter rain and snow storm, it was a difficult trip to
the Reno area, but the riders that did make it there wanted to start off
the new season with some good results. The crew of Double A Marketing
Pros did just that, and here is how they finished up for the weekend.
Randy Stumpfhauser thought the short drive to Reno was
going to be no big deal a few weeks back, so he passed on flying in. The
week before Reno, with bad winter storms and lots of snow, Randy put his
trust in his Team Issued Hyundai Santa Fe to get him through the snow
paced roads to Reno. Results? On Saturday, Stumpy had the same determination
on the track as he did to just get to the race, and he finished up 2nd
in AA Pro. On Sunday, Randy once again finished 2nd in AA, giving him
2 strong results to start off the new ABA 05 Season. Randy also finished
2nd on Saturday and 1st on Sunday in Pro Cruiser. Randy's sponsors include
GT Bicycles, Hyundai, ODI, Kenda Tires, Shimano, Fox Racing, Smith, Sun
Ringle, Bombshell Forks, AC, Thomson, Powerbar, CTI Knee Braces, Tool
Shed, Marwi, SDG, FSA Headsets, S & M, Cyto Sport/Cyto Max, and BMXpros.com
Brandon Meadows has been plagued with an injury that
has kept him off the track since September, but he has put his off time
to some good and a lot of intense training. On Saturday, Brandon looked
like he had not missed a day of riding and was very impressive in AA Pro,
with a 3rd place finish. Brandon's sponsors include Specialized, O'Neal,
Oakley, Adidas, Tangent, Cyto Sport/Cyto Max, Shimano, Sun Ringle, Powerbar,
and BMXpros.com.
Christophe Leveque has been putting a lot of time in
on his GT Ultra Box and trying to get back up to his potential. On Sunday,
Christophe put one more notch in his comeback, as he finished 4th for
the day in AA Pro. Leveque is well in his way, ahead of schedule to bring
home a AA pro win in the near future. Christophe's sponsors include GT
Bicycles, Hyundai, ODI, Kenda Tires, Shimano, Fox Racing, Tangent, SDG,
Smith, Sun Ringle, Thomson, Marwi, S & M, Cyto Sport/Cyto Max, and
BMXpros.com
Dale Holmes was the big AA Pro winner in Reno just last
season, and Dale was having visions of adding the ABA Opener Specialist
to his list. Unfortunately, he was unable to bring home a AA win, but
he did finish up 6th in AA On Sunday. Dale's sponsors include Free Agent,
KHS, Kenda, Troy Lee Designs, Sun Ringle, Shimano, S & M, Power Bar,
Truvativ, DaleHolmes.com, BMXpros.com, and Cyto Sport/Cyto Max.
BMXPros.com proudly represents Kyle Bennett, Cristian Becerine, Wade Bootes,
Dale Holmes, Christophe Leveque, Brandon Meadows, John Parker, and Randy
Stumpfhauser. For more information on any of the riders, or questions
abut sponsorship of any of the athletes, please visit www.BMXpros.com.
10/01 KappaBMX.com
If you are a fan of Old School technology and wanted to buy a
CW Phaze 1 or an old school Profile frame, or many of the other very different
looking frames that are out of your price range on eBay, here's your chance.
Kappa Bicycle Company (nothing to do with the clothing company) from out
of Kalamazoo, Michigan U.S.A.are a custom shop that are making some awesome
looking old school replicas that you can race today. They look a little
different to the originals, for example, you could go for the lightning
bolt front end of a CW Phaze 1 and have a loop tail rear end of a JMC.
But throw in a european bottom bracket and some V-brake mounts and you
are ready to race. Probably not for the Old School purists out there but
for someone who wants a bike that they can race and show and remember
the good old days. The frames are available from 16" and up. Kappa
also have a range of forks and handlebars. Check out Kappa's website at

MCS
Bicycles is pleased to announce the sponsorship of two new riders. First
of which is Jonathan Suarez. Jonathan is a AA Pro and hails from Venezuela.
He will be racing the Florida State Series and the NBL Pro Series as well
as, a few select ABA Nationals. Also joining Suarez is Jonathan Villa.
Villa is 18 years old and comes to us by way of Colombia. Although he
is new to racing in the US, he has already posted up one win on the NBL

On a sadder note, MCS has lost William Peters from the lineup. "Petey" will be missed around the tent. Although he is not on the roster anymore, he is still on friendly terms with everybody around the pit area.
Thats about it from sunny South Florida. Oh yeah and....Happy New Year!!!!!!!
05/01 Get sponsored for 2005 through SPONSORHOUSE.COM
So Why is Sponsorship So Important?
To make it to the next level, it takes 100% dedication, hours of training
each week, and great equipment. Dedication and training are free providing
you have the time, but great equipment can come with a hefty price tag.
What many riders don't realize is that regardless of whether you are a
sport rider or a top pro, there is support available from most of the
biggest companies in the industry to help put more money in your wallet
keeping you on the road to the biggest events.
Why Do Companies Sponsor Riders?
Whether its discounts, free product, contingency, or factory salaries,
companies offer sponsorship to riders for one reason and one reason only...TO
SELL MORE PRODUCT. Getting their products on racers like you will increase
awareness of their brand among your buddies, at the races, within magazines,
and every other person you come in contact with. Once you accept their
support, be prepared to do your part and refer some new customers any
way you know how. Doing your part is the easiest way to get more support
down the road.
How Do Discounts Translate Into Covering Entry Fees?
It's simple math really, but here goes...Most riders will spend on average
$10,000 a year on bikes, parts, and gear throughout the season. That tightens
up the budget for travel and entry fees for those of you paying your own
way. If you pick up a 30% discount deal from one company for every product
category like bikes, wheels, gear, brakes, etc. that's an extra $3,000
you'll have available next season to either hit more races or have a little
extra green in your wallet. Average 50% and you got an extra $5,000.
So How Do I Find Sponsors?
You'll need to create a professional resume, research the right person
at each company, figure out when they accept resumes, then send in your
information and hope for the best. This process can take quite a bit of
time and can be frustrating because you're not alone in the search for
support so often times companies are way overloaded on requests for sponsorship.
Enter SponsorHouse.com:
SponsorHouse.com has connected more than 130,000 deals in motocross, BMX,
and mountain biking since 2001. As riders themselves, the boys over at
SponsorHouse help to educate you about sponsorship and marketing while
you create your own online profile for other riders and potential sponsors
to check out.
It's easy...Signup, create your resume, scan the list of more than 50
leading players in the industry, and submit your request for 2005 support.
No longer do you need to print out individual resumes and send them via
snail mail and pray for a response.
Similarly, companies no longer have to deal with processing each resume
manually and replying traditionally via mail. Sponsors can receive your
request, view your pertinent information and reply instantly online providing
a quick and easy-to-use solution.
Sample Companies:
Intense BMX, Sun Ringle, Oneal/Azonic, Smith, Supercross, No Fear, ATi,
Marzocchi, and a host of others who are expanding their teams while making
an effort to simplify their sponsorship programs.

04/01 Norco Battle of Trafalgar – Huge
4X Entertainment!
A huge day of mountain bike entertainment is expected at the Norco Battle
of Trafalgar, coming to Delhuntie Park, Trafalgar, Victoria on Sunday
January 30, 2005.
Jam packed full of action, this event is set to be the biggest day of mountain bike entertainment ever held at the venue. Spectators will certainly get an absolute feast of fun and action with a number of events being held throughout the day.
The main event will be the Battle of Trafalgar Fourcross (4X) race. 4X is best described as gravity fed, man powered, Supercross. Some of the best 4X racers in the world will be racing head to head on the fast, big air, adrenaline pumping course.
On top of this there will be the Mini MTB Madness event - adults racing side by side on tiny 16 inch BMX’s. Expect tons of crashes and mishaps as they clumsily attempt to manoeuvre their way down the course.
Pro Quad motorbike racer and Team Polaris rider, Rodney Scale will be making an appearance, ripping up the course on his thumping Polaris Predator 500. He will also be taking on his younger brother, Brendan on his mountain bike in the Battle of the Scale Brothers, a time trial down the course.
The ever popular dirt jump Expression Session will be back with riders pulling off crazy moves like the “Superman”, and “Knack knack”. Talk is there may be a back flip or two as well.
The day will conclude with a mystery feature that will have the crowds going nuts.
