Daneosaur Tales Episode 2: Cross training

This week’s Daneosaur Tales is a written piece, don’t fret though more video is on the way.

After a great week of riding Cross Country, 4X, BMX and some gym workouts on the new program I put together the small video Daneosaur Tales EP1, to display what
I’m doing to prepare myself for the USA BMX grand nationals at the end of the year. (which I hope some of you checked out on you tube). Furthermore, trying to fit it all in with work, family life and the winter weather!

The thing that I have been focusing on for this event is cross training. All of your skills that you use on a XC ride, 4X etc will transfer over in some way to your BMX racing, and as long as you are on a bike, your skills will improve!

After that great week of riding, boom, caught a virus and spent the next week in bed sick, but after all, we are in the colder months of the year…

Once I had somewhat recovered from that virus, it was back into the gym, and picked up where I left off, and felt surprisingly fresh. These workouts that Tess Anderson has laid out for me go for approximately 90 minutes, which includes warm ups, main exercises, core strength and interval cardio, which may sound like a lot of time in the gym, but considering your in there twice a week its not that bad.

I headed to the Eastfield BMX track for a Tuesday night gate session to fine-tune the gate start and get in some track work while the weather was decent. Riding with some of the fast dudes at Eastfield is fun, and really helps you push yourself.

Over the last week, my working roster has been full on, therefore having to change the routine around to accommodate training, which includes some up and down hill sprints, box sprints and interval sprints. Looking forward to getting some track sessions in the coming weeks. Stay tuned and have fun!

Daneosaur Tip – Always make sure you have adequate recovery time in between gym/bike sessions. Weather your 14 or 40; your body needs to recover to get the most out of your training. It will not be as long for you younger guys as it will be for us older ones, so listen to your body and base recovery times on how you are feeling.
