UCI Supercross World Cup Round 2 at Manchester This Weekend

Round 1 of the 2016 UCI Supercross series in Argentina saw a large number of upset with the likes of favourites Joris Daudet, Maris Strombergs and Sam Willoughby all missing the cut for the final. It also saw four USA riders make the top 10, on the flip side of that it’s been some time since the Australian team hasn’t had at least one rider placed in the top 10. It saw Australia fall from the top of the heap to third in the Olympic Country rankings. Only the top four nations will have three representatives in the Elite Men’s field. It will be important for them to produce results to stay in the top four as the Olympics approach however both Sam Willoughby and Anthony Dean are missing from the entries list. Interestingly Maris Strombergs is also absent from Manchester.

The stacked Men’s field will be joined by Liam Phillips and Bodi Turner, both absent at Argentina.

Manchester has been dominated by Phillips who has won the men’s class the past three years and Caroline Buchanan who has won it the past two years.

The Women’s Elite Class will once again prove to be a real ripper with Buchanan carrying momentum into Manchester of the back of her win at the series opener. That’s not to say that it will be a one horse race, far from it. With the likes of Mariana Pajon, Simone Christensen, team USA (Crain, George, Post and Stancil), the French team, the Dutch Army, Amanda Carr and Elke Vanhoof, it’s going to be a tough field.
