Daneosaur Tales Episode 4: USABMX Grand Nationals Preparation
Coming into the last 6 weeks of preperation for the 2014 USABMX Grand Nationals I have been working a lot on track skill, sprints and tapering gym sessions down to once a week. After the successful testing of the GT “Frankenstein OS20”, it was time to race! First race was Hell Track at the Frankston BMX track. After some good solid qualifying laps I found myself in the final where I placed 7th. Park Orchards was the next stop, and once again found myself putting down some solid qualifying motos and transferred through the 1/4 and semi finals. Once the dust settled I finished 3rd.
These two races were important to the lead up to Grands because most riders in the A-pro field were preparing for the Victorian State Championships, and were putting in the hard work so they will be in peak form come the 22nd November, and there would be enough time for me to adjust and tweak my training to fine tune my strengths and continue to improve my weaknesses. Over the last couple of weeks I have spent some at the BSX compound, which helps with sharpening up your reflexes, jumping and cornering skills. For anyone that has ridden BSX, you will know that it is challenging and different to most tracks. The skills you pick up from riding BSX converts over to a proper race track, just on a bigger scale.
Now within the the last couple of days before I fly out to Tulsa, I have stuck to my program but increased my rest periods, and focusing on quality over quantity. I will be traveling with 2 bikes, and the trick to keeping within your baggage allowance, is to pack your race gear and most of your other clothing in the bike bags, which brings your bags up to the weight limit and helps protect your bikes because as I’m sure you all know, airlines are not gentle when it comes to handling your luggage.
Make sure you all head over to the USABMX Facebook page or website and watch ROC and Grands on the live feed link and cheer your fellow Aussies on, and I will keep posting updates on Facebook, and if you are on instragram follow me @daneosaur182.
