Just two days until BMX is on at the Rio Olympics. In a follow up to our Momentum article for the Men’s class we have our round up for the Women.

USA’s Alise Post has had a string of bad luck while coming second at the World Championships a mistake in the final straight cost her dearly. Similarly at the World Cup round at Manchester while winning Alise had the race wrapped up but fell with only two rollers between her and the finish line. She did however dominate at the USABMX domestic Supercross series.

Venezuela’s Stefany Hernandez had an amazing year in 2015. Winning the World Championships and stringing together four podiums from five World Cup races, her other finish was a fourth. 2016 hasn’t exactly gone the same way, but you can be sure that Stefany is poised to get in the mix at Rio.

Australia’s Caroline Buchanan enters the Olympics with the World Cup series lead, having taken wins in Santiago and Manchester and a second in Papendal. She took the world championship in the Time Trial but had to settle for second in the racing. Her consistency this past twelve months has set her up as a favourite for Gold.

Netherland’s Laura Smulders won the last World Cup round at Papedal to follow up her third at Santiago, her past 12 months has been pretty impressive. Laura finished 3rd at the 2012 Olympics in London and can ride well when the pressure is on.

Colombia’s Mariana Pajon, the current Olympic and World Champion heads to Rio as the current favourite. The 2016 World Cup hasn’t exactly gone to plan but you know that when it comes to the big races Mariana will be at the pointy end in the race for gold.
