First Look: Alienation BMX Nirvana Disc Hubs

The crew at Alienation BMX has given us an early look at the upcoming Alienation Nirvana Disc Hubs, sending over prototype samples ahead of their official release. After spending some time checking them out, it’s fair to say we’re impressed.

The first thing you’ll notice is the distinctive shape of the hub shell. Rather than following the traditional smooth cylindrical design, Alienation has opted for a chunky octagonal profile that gives the Nirvana hubs a unique look. Despite their robust appearance, they’re surprisingly light, tipping the scales at just 445 grams for the complete front and rear hub set, making them one of the lightest race hub options we’ve seen.

Performance is clearly a priority. The rear hub features eight magnetic pawls delivering an impressive 288 points of engagement, providing near-instant power transfer when you put the pedals down. That fast engagement should make the Nirvana hubs a popular choice with BMX racers looking for every advantage from the gate drop.

The prototypes we’ve received are configured with a 20mm through-axle front hub and a 15mm through-axle rear hub, with a 10mm rear axle option expected to follow. The rear hub also features a Shimano-compatible driver, making it compatible with a wide range of cog options.
