Chris King BMX Hubs Are Back

There’s a real buzz on the internet today, as after eight years away, Chris King announced they are bringing their legendary BMX hubs back — and they’re lighter than ever.

For BMX riders who remember the unmistakable sound and performance of a Chris King hub, this is big news. After discontinuing its BMX hubs in 2018, Chris King says it has continued to hear from riders requesting their return.

Now, those requests have finally been answered.

The new Chris King BMX hubset brings the brand’s trademark precision manufacturing and legendary RingDrive™ technology back to BMX, while keeping weight to an absolute minimum.

The rear hub tips the scales at just 297 grams, while the front comes in at an impressive 170 grams, making the pair one of the lightest BMX hubsets on the market.

Built for BMX

Up front, the new hub is simple, designed around a 20mm axle.

At the rear, Chris King has gone with a 6-bolt rotor mount, while retaining the iconic RingDrive™ system that helped make the original King BMX hubs so desirable.

The rear hub incorporates an internal needle bearing, and is available in either 15mm thru-axle or M10 bolt-on configurations.

For those unfamiliar with RingDrive™, Chris King places the engagement mechanism inside the hubshell rather than relying on a conventional freehub ratchet. The system uses precision-machined Drive and Driven Rings for positive engagement, with the design renowned for its durability and distinctive freewheeling buzz.

Lightweight. Serviceable. Built in the USA. And unmistakably Chris King.

We’re already starting to see these make a return to BMX race bikes with Corben Sharrah’s newest Divine Bikes build.
