Another Bottom Bracket Standard – The T47

The guys over at Supercross BMX have started to switch their carbon Vision F1 over to yet another bottom bracket standard, the T47 bottom bracket.

Let’s take a quick look at what it is.

The T47 bottom bracket is a threaded bottom bracket created to address creaking issues common with press-fit bottom brackets. The standard has been around for a few years now, but only just getting traction in the BMX scene. Think of an outboard Euro bottom bracket but it has a larger diameter (47mm vs 34.6mm of the euro bb). This means bigger and better bearings for a wider range of crank spindle options. For BMX you are looking at T47 for 30mm and 24mm spindles, however you can get adapters to step the T47 down to fit a standard euro bb, but why wouldn’t you just take full advantage of what T47 offers – a more secure fit, better bearings, smoother running, and most importantly better power output.
