Australian National Series hits Shepparton this Weekend

The Australian National Series rolls into Shepparton this weekend for the all important rounds 5 & 6.

The elite classes are pretty tight in the points chase. And with it being the Olympic year there are potential Olympic berths on the line. While the Australian Olympic BMX team hasn’t officially been announced yet you would have to consider Sam Willoughby (2012 Olympic Silver medalist), Anthony Dean (2012 Olympic alternative) and Bodi Turner strong candidates for the Men’s team with Caroline Buchanan (2012 Olympic finalist) and Lauren Reynolds (2012 Olympian) good contenders for the Women’s team. But BMX is a high risk sport and anything could happen, a simple injury could put any one of those riders out of contention so the Australian National series couldn’t be more important right now.

Expect to see a lead change in the Elite Men’s class with Bodi overseas with the High Performance team. The elite women’s class is also tight, Melinda Mcleod will want to put in a perfect weekend with Leanna Curtis nipping at her heals. In the Junior Men Hayden Fletcher takes a handy lead into what is essentially his home track, being the closest race track to his home town of Mansfield. Saya Sakakibara will take a handy points lead to Shepparton in the Junior Women’s class and will look to continue on her winning ways. The 30 + Masters class will also be one to watch. Being one of the most entertaining classes to watch this series there are more than a handful of riders who could take the series lead with good results at Shepparton.

Saturday racing starts at 12pm AEST
Sunday racing starts at 10am AEST

The track is located at the Sports Precinct at Brauman Street in Shepparton.
