Get Pumped to Start BMX Racing
I often hear questions like “am I too old/too tall/too heavy for BMX racing?”, there’s also the opposites, however less common.
Instead of looking for an excuse not to try BMX racing, why not just get pumped, dip that toe in the water and get started?
People often get into BMX racing for a couple of key reasons, it’s usually either for fun or a new challenge.
You are never too old/too tall/too heavy for any of these. Let’s clarify before we go any further, there are BMX racers who are older, taller and heavier than you who are already enjoying BMX racing. Chances are I probably fit in all three categories.
BMX racing has been around as an organised sport for over 50 years, it’s not about to go anywhere, there will always be racing in the future. There’s no reason, or expectation, for you to become an instant champion. Take your time to get comfortable on the race track, like any sport it takes time to pick up the skills, there’s no rush.
For many BMX racers it’s enough of a buzz to just enjoy racing at local level, while others might progress and want to take it further, that option is available but definitely not a necessity.
I personally find club racing a lot more relaxed, more socially oriented, and overall more fun. Generally there are fewer competitors and it easier to connect with other like minded thrill seekers.
If you want to get started in BMX racing just contact your local club and they can steer you towards your first steps in one of the most fun and challenging family sports their is.
